Grenada is wonderful. Myself and a friend went with Virgin holidays and stayed at the Allamanda Beach resort hotel.
It was clean, comfortable and spacious. I had read a review for the hotel, where a couple had down rated it, but how much time do you want to spend in a hotel room in a place like Grenada? The review was completely out of tune with what the hotel was actually like. The staff were friendly and very helpful.
The hotel backs onto Grand Anse beach, and what a beach! At the back gate there are two almond trees where the locals hang out. They are nice and friendly and would look out for our bags when we went swimming.
The one down side was the beach sellers. Yes I know they have to make a living, but on some occasions when I wanted to just chill, there were a constant stream trying to sell me something. Most though took no as an answer and went off to someone else. Oh and I did buy things.
A great place to eat was Rosies along the beach. They served up a huge Caribbean dinner for about 12-15 ec$ (ec$5-£1) so roughly about £2-3. There didn't seem to be many water sports except when a cruise ship came in, but we were there very early in the season.
The island is small, but the people are really friendly. We did an Island tour in a day.
It's worth taking the ferry to Carricou which you can get from the port at St Georges.
Grenada does not have a rocking nightlife. There are a few places that are open late a few nights a week. Fantazia is one. They have an oldie goldie night on Wednesday and a night for the younger generation on Fridays.
We went to the Owl on Mondays for crab racing, which was great fun. Full of American Med students!
Another good place to eat is Le Chateaux. They do lovely food, reasonably priced. It is opposite the Allamanda.
For a classy restaurant try Mi Hacienda up by the golf course. All white linen, crystal glasses and delicious food. The view is spectacular from the veranda.
One downside was the Virgin rep. She was really lovely, but we saw her on the first day and never saw a soul afterwards, despite the fact the rep was meant to be there everyday between 8.30 and 9am. In fact, Virgin didn't even inform us of our departure time. Thankfully the reception at the Allamanda checked for us.
I will return. Again and again as I like it that much.
