No complaints just compliments. The staff, from the gardeners to the Manager were approachable and friendly. The food was very good, especially the fish at the beach restaurant. Our first week was somewhat wet but that didn't dampen the spirits, especially for the Brits coz... more

Brilliant flight over although the airport in the Dominican Republic is what you might call primitive. The Victoria Golf & Beach Resort is a beautiful hotel and you feel instantly at home on your arrival, no matter what time you arrive. Rooms were beautifully clean and... more

The transfer from the airport was only about 15 minutes and in reception we were offered a cold towel and a fruit punch. The golf buggy took us and our luggage and dropped us off at the room which was a suite with 2 large beds, a dressing room/walk in wardrobe, a large... more

This was our second visit to the Victoria Golf & Beach Resort. We’ve never done return visits anywhere before, so you get a good impression of the kind of place this is. This is ideal for couples, or older ones, looking for a quiet holiday. The evening entertainment is... more

This was our second trip to the Dominican Republic and Playa Dorada. This time we chose the Victoria Resort as it is central to Playa Dorada and situated on the Golf Course, which is great as my husband got to play 4 rounds during our stay! We went with 4 friends who had... more

This was my first holiday to the Caribbean. My fiancé and I usually go to Egypt but decided it was unwise because of the trouble. When arriving in Dominican the Airport, Transfer and Service were better than I had expected. The hotel reception and staff at the Victoria... more

A wonderful hotel. This hotel is very clean and pleasant. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The staff have all the time in the world with the visitors, always making them feel welcomed. The food was excellent with a choice of four restaurants. Anyone going to the Victoria will have a fab time. I can’t wait to return again.

Very good family vacation
Me and my family were on our vacation in the beginning of January 2004. The first day there was horrible because we got lost when we tried to find the beach (It is a really big advantage if you know spanish!!!!!). The beach turned out to be pretty bad (the water was not clean). But overall I loved the food, lots of choice for different tastes. Rooms were nice and clean. The two pools that were in the resourt were increddibly cold, but I did manage to force myself in once (and I'm the person who loves to swim). The entertainment was good for a family vacation, but if you are a party person this is not the best resort for you. I also strongly advise (if you like to snorkel or swim) to take a tour to paradise island (a.k.a. Punta Rusia) not only will you swim with many beautiful fishes(bring bread) but also the tour includes an hour long drive through Dominican which is like a tour itself (plus a boat ride!!!) cost is from $50 to $78 per person but its worth it.
this 4 star hotel doesn't even get a 2 from us!
We went to the Victoria for our honeymoon. As soon as we got there we contacted Signature Vacations to get us out! They left us stranded for two weeks! After the first week they finally changed our room, but the damage had been done. Both my daughter and husband had lung infections from inhaling the mould that had been growing on our bed. The food was the same about every 3 day (which is really noticable when you are there for two weeks!), our room had not only pubic hair all over the place, but urine down the wall. Our bed was made with dirty sheets, blood, pen and lipstick? The towels were in about the same shape. The pools were cold, only one allowed children and the other had sports (vollyball) through most of the day. This resort is no fun for children. The ocean was okay. It is brown water, not blue. The kicker for this resort was the cockroches. They were the size of mice, and just crawling around on the wall. Do not book this resort with Signature Vacations. They have miss rated this resort and will not help you at all once they have their money!
Victoria Resort we love it.
We had a loveley week at the Victoria Resort, The welcoming was great, the room was excellent with a nice balcony overlooking a part of the golf course. We realy enjoyed the food although some guest were complaining about the food ( we were wondering what they eat at home) The go;f course around the resort was gorgeous. The walk to the beach from our room was approximately 15 minutes, we could also take the shuttle to the beach. The beach was beautiful with lots of oppertunities for swimming, boating, snorkling, sailing etc. The beach club is a nice restaurant owned by the Victoria Resort, they serve you with all kinds of drinks and an excellent lunch. As well as on the beach as at the resort the resort offered a good activity program for young and old. The afternoon snack and the night entertainment program were but not special.
worst vaction ever!
We just returned from the Victoria Resort in Puerto Plata. It was the worst vaction we have ever taken! Our first night we arrived we were taken to our room and were given a very small room with two double beds. We had paid for a Jr. Suite. When we said the room was not a Jr. Suite, we were told that was all they had. We told them there was o way we were staying in that room as we had paid for a Jr. Suite. We were told to go have something to eat and they would try to find another room. We took this trip through Signature Vacations....we would advise you to book your trips through anyone else! Once they have your money, their Reps. on site, do not help you at all! We located the Rep. on site and explained our situation and she told us to deal with the desk staff. We were a family of 4 and had brought our 15 and 12 yr. old daughters with us, so paid for the larger room to be comfortable. After we had something to eat we were moved to a larger room, but still not a Jr. Suite. Again, this room was just larger and only had 2 beds, we explained this wouldn't do. So, their solution was to bring a roll away cot in for one of our daughter's to sleep in. But, they only brought in sheets and I had to make the bed myself! When I requested a pillow and a blanket, I was told again, she would have to wait until tomorrow! So, we had to give her one off of one of the other beds and use one of the bedspreads for a blanket. In the morning, we woke up to water on the floor and my husband located it coming from the smoke detector!!! So, he called teh front desk and told them we would not stay in this room either and would appreciate the room we had booked and paid for. Again we were told there was nothing else available. We tried to find the Signatuer Rep, but couldn't. So we called Signatuer's 24hr. emergency help line only to speak with a very rude British woman, who told us we had the choice of paying more money to move to another hotel or downgrade and move to another hotel!!!! I told her we wouldn not do either, since we had already paid extra for the Jr. suite and the resort was not living up to teh agreement and we had booked through Signature. She then offered to fly us back home if we wanted to leave and weren't happy!!! After a lot of arguing with staff at the hotel they moved us to another room!!! It was a much larger room, but still not a Jr. suite. It had one king sized bed in it. Their solution was to move 2 roll away cots in for each of our daughters. We gave in and gave up. We were tired of fighting, but we never did get the Jr. Suite we had paid for! When my husband found the remote to the TV didn't work, he told the front desk...their replay was "it's fine." We had 2 towels for 4 people in the bathroom...getting 4 towels was like asking for gold! The room situation seemed to be a common problem with many of the hotle guests that we met and talked too. We had even heard others tell us they had called Signature's 24hr. help line and got no help either! As other people have said...the food is terrible at the Victoria resort! The buffet has the same thing almost everyday, sometimes one or two different dishes, but other than that it's the same. If you like pork, then you will be happy because they served it every night!!!!!! But, we only had bacon available one morning for breakfast and when something ran out, that was it, they didn't make more. The best part of the meals were dessert. The staff in the dining room are very slow. You could wait 20 min. or longer to just get a cup of coffee and tipping didn't seem to improve that. Half way through, the hotel must have been over booked because now everyone had to eat in shifts and you would sometimes wait 20 - 30 min to get a table and you got what was available. The bars at the hotel were ok, sometimes slow also, but the worst part was everything shut down at 12am!!! After that, there was nothing to do for the guests at the hotel, but go to their rooms or leave the resort and look for something to do elsewear. It was like geriatric row there. A few of us laughed how we would all be catching up on our sleep while there because we had no other choice. They do not have entertainment nightly and when they do, it's local kids trying to do their best, but ti's not very good. The best night was kareoke night because a few of our guests had amazing voices!! The entertainment staff are very nice at the resort, but the activities are not up to par of other all inclusive resorts, but they do try. They were alwys happy and were great for our daughters and the other kids at the resort. Probably because they weren't much older, so they all could relate and have fun together. Also, the bellhop Anthony was wonderful and very helpful. He speaks excellent English and will translate to the front desk staff for you when having problems. Usually they respond with all complaints with "tomorrow". The best restaurant is the beach bar. And the beach is 5 min. away by the golfcart taxi, not walking! The main pool is often very dirty and they don't do upkeep during the day and both pools are small. One last piece of advice if you do go to Puerto Plata...don't forget you will need $20. US CASH to leave the arirport! Something none of us Canadians were told by Signature vacations until we got down there. The banks down there will not change your travellers cheques for US cash either. We will never go back to Puerto Plata or recommend the Victoria resort to anyone! We have been to Santo Domingo before and it was wonderful! The Costa Caribe was excellent! The Victoria is definately not a 4*.
Our time at the Victoria
If you are young and looking for a lively place to party, this is not the place for you. The croud that the resort seems to cater to is an older one. The rooms are clean and the food is decent, however, eating the same items everyday does get a little tiring. The staff is friendly and the activities director really tries to get the guests involved in all the pool activities, he even, takes your shoes and shirt off for you. The hotel says if offers three meals plus snacks, but there were no snacks in sight, remember to bring your own. It is close to the playa dorada plaza and the beach, and they even have golf carts driving you to and from there beach location. Over all the stay at the Victoria resort was pleasant, however, I do not think I would give four stars. Maybe three or three and a half.
Very nice apart from the food
The hotel and staff were very nice but if it is good food you are after then book else were,The buffet was terrible,I would advize you to try and book in the restraunt every night if possible(book early morning). Both pools were great as were the bars, you must try the 151 rum.even though the the entertainment staff work very hard and long hours it is poor
it was amazing
My husband and I went on our honeymoon to the Victoria. It was wonderful. The food was amazing the people were I think the best part. They were so friendly and willing to serve at all times. The locations was great too. Not to far from the beach and shopping mall, but far enough so that it was still private. We would go again for sure.
Wonderful
I visted in late spetember and it was wonderful. The food was nice and pleasent i am really fussy so i was pleasently surprised. The pizzeria was my favourite despite the awful smell of the lake. The rooms was nice with a wonderful view of the golf course but as there were 3 of us it was a bit cramped. The beach was beautiful and there was plenty of room and sunbeds were always available. The entertianment in the evening was good but it wasn't that lively but then i didn't expect it to be. The staff were very helpful and friendly and were keen to help with any problems or questions. All in all a nice and relaxing holiday.
Really enjoyed it
I travelled in August 2003 and really enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly and the food was excellent. Certainly got more for my money than expected. i would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants a nice relaxing holiday.
fantastic holiday
I stayed at the victoria resort with my mum and sister the last 2 weeks of August and had a truly fantastic holiday. It is the rainy season so we had a couple of bad days but it just adds to the experience of it all! The rooms were kept in good condition, the restaurants were better than expected, all the rum you can drink and the staff were so inviting. There was great entertainment throughout the day and evening and the entertainment guys (annibal, kallibre, julian, benji, geovanny and alex) were the best, so friendly in more ways than one and we definately made good use of those ladies toilets didn't we alex?! I would fully reccommend the hotel I would go back right away if i could and make sure you visit the local nightclubs Hemmingways and crazy moons!
