No complaints just compliments. The staff, from the gardeners to the Manager were approachable and friendly. The food was very good, especially the fish at the beach restaurant. Our first week was somewhat wet but that didn't dampen the spirits, especially for the Brits coz we're used to it. Our room was a standard double!!! Very nice. The beach was a 5 minute walk or if you were suffering from over indulgence from the night before there was a buggy ride. The beach itself was lovely, the lad looking after the sunbeds started at around 5.30 in the morning by ensuring the beach was clean and raked. The "hawkers" or beach sellers were not too in your face and you could have a laugh and a joke with them, especially the "monkey man??" If you haven't got kids and you want a relaxing, chill out holiday please consider this resort/hotel. If you have got kids, the people we spoke to recommended the Victoria's sister hotel, The Grand Ventanna, as they have a full animation programme.

Brilliant flight over although the airport in the Dominican Republic is what you might call primitive.
The Victoria Golf & Beach Resort is a beautiful hotel and you feel instantly at home on your arrival, no matter what time you arrive.
Rooms were beautifully clean and our room was on the first floor and had an amazing view over the golf course. All rooms are on Ground or first floor level. This hotel has 2 pools, one of which was adults only which was lovely.
Reps are available most days to give information or advice. There is a small shop stocking basic items and Internet access is also available for a small fee.
Overall my stay here was fantastic and would definitely go back.

The transfer from the airport was only about 15 minutes and in reception we were offered a cold towel and a fruit punch.
The golf buggy took us and our luggage and dropped us off at the room which was a suite with 2 large beds, a dressing room/walk in wardrobe, a large bathroom, a small kitchen area with fridge, and a lovely terrace overlooking the adult’s only quiet pool.
There were cold drinks (beer, Pepsi, water, and 7up) in the fridge and a coffee maker in the kitchen area. The room was air conditioned with a ceiling fan and also had a safe, hairdryer and a TV. Beach towels are provided in the room. All towels and bedding are changed regularly and the room was very clean and comfortable.
Breakfast is a lovely selection of fresh fruit, cereal, yogurt, cakes, pastries, hot buffet, and a chef cooking eggs.
Lunch can either be eaten at the main buffet or in the tex-mex a la carte beach bar. The beach is about 10 minutes walk, but if you're very lazy there is a free golf buggy shuttle! The service at the beach bar was excellent.
Dinner can be eaten in the main buffet, which has theme nights, in the Mozzarella Pizza restaurant or you can book a table at the Jardin Victoria a la carte which is formal dress.
In the a la carte there is a supplement for certain meals such as steak or lobster, but there are many other meals to choose from which are included in the all inclusive package. We found the food to be of a very good standard and a good choice.
There are 2 pools - 1 for adults only. There is a gym which is open from 7-7. You can borrow a bicycle but only to go round the grounds. The pool bar is open until midnight as is the lovely Lotus bar.
There is a tennis club and you can get a free lesson. The hotel is built on a lovely golf course and they offer 1 free lesson - a round was about £60.
The night entertainment was rather limited and a bit amateur, but there are a number if bars/clubs within walking or a short taxi distance.
The staff here are lovely and very helpful, and there is a very relaxed atmosphere. I would recommend this hotel for couples, or families with older children.

This was our second visit to the Victoria Golf & Beach Resort. We’ve never done return visits anywhere before, so you get a good impression of the kind of place this is.
This is ideal for couples, or older ones, looking for a quiet holiday. The evening entertainment is low key (local dancers, local bands, karaoke nights etc.) but there are bars/clubs nearby if you want something more lively.
Often after the evening entertainment the guys from the hotel’s animation team will take you out there. The views are amazing across the golf course and the mountains, and the wildlife are a pleasure to watch, especially watching to see when the eggs along the nests in the river hatch
There are two pools; the main one is kept busy by the entertainment team, and the second is the quiet, adults only pool, where there is no music except for the local wildlife. There is a bar there to keep you fully refreshed though.
There are 4 restaurants; one pizzeria only open on an evening, a main buffet restaurant (the food here is unlike many buffet restaurants, I couldn’t fault the food at all! There’s something for everyone), an a la carte restaurant for those formal evenings and a beach restaurant.
Each serve fab food with enough variety to keep all tastes happy. All very clean and food is always very hot. I have not heard of anyone being ill from the food here.
The hotel is a very quick hop on the hotel’s buggy, or 3 mins walk. If you like to snorkel, then walk around the beach to the left for a couple of minutes, and line yourself up in the sea with the kayak booth – that’s beautiful reef and rocks with millions of fish there.
As a return visitor we were upgraded to a junior suite room for free and had access to the sister hotel The Gran Ventana and were able to use their bars and a la carte restaurants too. If it’s your return trip, the seafood restaurant on the beachfront is not to be missed!!
I have not met a nicer bunch of staff anywhere on my travels. They are all very happy, welcoming people who love to have a laugh with you. The animation team are also great; keeping you occupied during the days and nights, but if you’re not interested in games, just tell them straight. They won’t be offended.
The only down side to our stay was not something the hotel staff were accountable for. Since our stay last year (May ‘06) the hotel seems to offer rooms to cabin crew, from many airlines. While some were ok, others, due to the fact they were in a large group, were not.
One group was incredibly noisy, raucous and generally in-your-face. They took up large tables in the restaurants, took up far too many sunbeds together, created havoc in the pool, and made us cringe on many many occasions. This is, of course, not something the hotel can't really control, but I wish they would reconsider their policy on this as the people in question are really not in keeping with the hotels atmosphere.
When it comes to the tour operator, I can’t recommend them highly enough. First choice were superb. The rep was great, and was always there when she said she would be; always there to help with a smile, nothing is too much trouble. The flight was great, roomy and had a good choice of film/games/TV to keep you occupied.

This was our second trip to the...

This was our second trip to the Dominican Republic and Playa Dorada. This time we chose the Victoria Resort as it is central to Playa Dorada and situated on the Golf Course, which is great as my husband got to play 4 rounds during our stay!
We went with 4 friends who had never been to Dominican before and was confident they would like our choice. None of us were disappointed.
The refurbishment undertaken on the Victoria was excellent. All our rooms were clean and spotless, we couldn't fault them. The only down side was half way through our holiday we were asked to move rooms as they had essential maintenance to do on the rooms. We couldn't understand why as we found nothing wrong with them. However we had no choice but to move and the bellboys came along to move all our luggage.
Everything about the holiday was wonderful. The food was great, the weather was perfect, the beach out of this world.
There are 2 pools, one for adults only. Most of our days were spent on the beach where we were entertained by the beach "vendors" selling their wares. Most you can haggle with if you are interested in what they are selling, but a polite no thanks will send them on their way. We did find a guy on the beach selling trips much cheaper than the price you'd pay if you go through your holiday rep. We were a bit dubious at first to go with him, but others told us they were all legitimate and booked some with him. He did not disappoint us. We went on a catamaran for a day trip where we went snorkeling with the fish off Sosou beach. Everything was provided including food and unlimited drinks. On the way back the crew kept us entertained, with music and dancing. Another day we all went on Quad bikes around the countryside. We saw how the poor people live and also the rich. It was a very dusty ride but well worth it.
The staff at the Victoria were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for you. We made many friends with them especially at the beach cafe. On the complex you are able to walk about in safety. One evening we visited the Chinese Restaurant, an experience we most probably should have missed. Another evening we went along to the Jack Tar Casino and played some machines. The entertainment at the Victoria in the evenings was not as we expected but some evenings were much better than others. We visited the a la carte restaurant several times during our stay and thoroughly enjoyed the pampering, although one evening the air conditioning had broken which didn't help! It was soon mended however and the rest of the evening was enjoyable.
I would highly recommend a visit to the Victoria Resort in Playa Dorada if you are looking for a relaxing carefree holiday.

This Hotel is wonderful. The people here are so friendly and caring they always have a smile on there face!
The rooms were so clean and tidy you need to update your video as it has gone through some major changes.
I thought the Entertainment guys where great they kept you so involved with the games and if you didn’t want to join in they would try to persuade you but then they would leave you alone. The guys where.... Benji, Elbis (spaghetti) Phrafielle (black banana) and Anibal. There are great and such a laugh, always kept you well entertained! I went there with my Family:- Mum, Dad And Brother!
The food was nice and they had a pizza place and a posh restaurant to eat upstairs.
There are many excursions you can go on, I went to Ocean World, it was amazing. I definitely recommend you go there.
This was the best holiday I have been on so far. I suggest everyone considering going there to go! I will always remember everyone and the friends I have made, especially the entertainment guys
Love you all!

This is my 6th time at the Victoria...

Mar 2005, Miss C Thompson

This is my 6th time at the Victoria and as you can guess I love it. This time me and my friend went with 2 other girls that we met at the Victoria the year before.
On arrival the reception staff and bellboys are superb, you are checked in with a drink handed to you and the bellboys take you by golf buggy to your room and then come back for your luggage which is brought within 5-10 mins.
There are 2 pools a quiet adult pool and the main pool which isn't over sized but just right. Entertainment is regular throughout the day and the entertainment staff Angel, Alex, Julian & Luis all managed very well by Annibal are brill, they may not be from Hollywood but they work their butts off. You are not pressurised to join in the pool games but are made to feel more than welcome if you do.
Food in the buffet is excellent breakfast - they will cook your omelette in front of you with the ingredients you have just picked. Lunch - normal salad pasta chips hotdogs burgers etc you can be healthy or pig out your choice!! Beach restaurant is lovely they even do chips & curry sauce ( not quite the same but interesting) the food here is fab though. Dinner - If you like pizza you are in heaven the pizza restaurant is great pizza express eat your heart out, they just do pizzas not all the extras but its very good, a la carte - nice for a change not quite my thing but makes a nice romantic evening, food as you would expect excellent. Buffet - again different theme every night bbq is good and worth a try.
Night entertainment is low key but fun, bar staff excellent not tight and beer is definitely not watered down.
Rooms - I have always thought the rooms here of a great standard and have no cause to complain, its not the Ritz but very comfortable and spacious.
I get treated like royalty every time I go & every staff member remembers me. If you want a big lovely mad hotel then this is not the place, but if you want low-key fun friendly staff and guests then this is the place. 100% recommended to anyone.

This was my first holiday to the...

Jan 2005, Miss J Wall

This was my first holiday to the Caribbean. My fiancé and I usually go to Egypt but decided it was unwise because of the trouble. When arriving in Dominican the Airport, Transfer and Service were better than I had expected. The hotel reception and staff at the Victoria were great.
When we got to our rooms, we couldn’t believe how dark it was in the room, we had to put the light on at 3.00 in the afternoon because there was hardly any natural light coming into the room. All I can say is the room reminded me of a Butlins Holiday in the 70's which my family went to and immediately left upon seeing the accommodation. I was horrified, the room smelt damp, we had to hang our clothes in the bathroom, if we opened our curtains we were on full view of all the other guests and staff within the resort.
So much for the romantic break in the Caribbean. We immediately headed back to reception to change our room. This happened the next day. The second room they gave us overlooked the Golf Course and therefore we had nobody overlooking us, which gave us more privacy.
The room still wasn’t much better, it smelt damp, unclean, the bed and sheets felt damp, and we still had to hang our clothes in the bathroom. The sheets and covers had cigarette burns, the backs of the covers were dirty and to top it all there were bed bugs. We had to cover ourselves in bite repellent from head to foot at night (fantastic) I am just so glad we were not getting married or on our honeymoon as some couples were.
Apart from all of that I couldn’t fault the staff and the restaurants and food was absolutely brilliant, choose, quality and service. What a shame the rooms let this potentially great resort down. It was rather funny to queue at the airport and recognise all the other guests who had stayed at our

Nov 2004, Mrs J Aggus

What a wonderful place! We were given a warm & friendly welcome wherever we went within Playa Dorada, but the Victoria Hotel was superb. Friendly staff throughout, a very relaxing, tranquil environment. The entire place was kept immaculate all the time, the rooms were cleaned "every" day. The food at both the hotel and beach restaurant was second to none, and the beach itself was lovely. Nothing to criticize about the place at all. We were on our Honeymoon on this occasion and booked it wanting a romantic & special destination, which is exactly what we got at the Victoria Hotel. We will definitely go back again.

Sep 2004, Mrs R Deacon

This was our first holiday - and definitely a brilliant choice.
This hotel was everything and more than what the brochure stated. The staff bent over backwards for you, the food was excellent, weather was lovely (even though we went in between the hurricanes!!!)
The rooms were clean, and cool (excellent air conditioning units). The beach and beach bar were excellent too.
The entertainment was fairly low key but always something going on.
We were well and truly pampered! lol
All in all - a brilliant hotel with that extra personal service!! We will definitely go back after the refurbishment!! (We had already booked for June 05, but had the holiday cancelled because of the refurbishment!)
