Lovin Playa Naco
from Leanne_Calli
I am 17 years old and I just returned from a one week stay at the Playa Naco resort in Puerto Plata, from March 13th to 21st. I went with 3 friends and enjoyed my trip very much and will have many good memories. Mainly I enjoyed the Discos; although Tops wasn't the most happening spot we would always get our drinks there and later head on over to the CRAZY MOON! Drinks at Crazy moon weren't cheap and we found ourselves paying upward of 100 pesos. But it was awesome and we met many people there, and had a fabulous time. The beach was absolutely beautiful and the staff was very friendly, mainly the bartender Jos?- we love Jos?!!!! I must warn you bring SNACKS although the market offers lays chips and the beach bar is o.k. the Buffet is very BAD. The only meal we ate was breakfast, which we usually missed because we slept in past 10. The Tex Mex and Pasta Factory restaurants were alright, but there is a serious shortage of editable food here. I encourage you to join in the activities and to sign up for as many things as you can as they are all great. The resort was quite clean but halfway through the stay the maids would stop stocking our fridge with water, also 2 of our lights burned out and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get them to replace them. The televisions have satellite and have good programming, but do not waste your time in your room. There is so much to see and do. Many people I met had already stayed at Playa Naco and said that they would be returning. I enjoyed my stay very much and met many people who would say the same, and would consider returning myself.

I just got back from the Dominican on Sunday, March 21st from an awsome 2 week vacation. I went down with three of my friends and I think we certainly got more than we would have ever imagined. We arrived late on a saturday night and immidiatly hit the clubs. Tops isn't the hottest place to hang out but it's cool if you want to get ur free drinks until midnight then head over to Hemmingways or Crazy Moon. Our hotel room was pretty good, we didn't spend too much time in it so it was livable. We met so many awsome people and just over all had an amazing time. The excursions were great and the jeep safari was definitly the best one, talk to Ambi on the beach, he will hook you up. The drinks are awsome and you definitly have to look for Jose aka "happy rum" he's usually at the beach bar. Bring some food from home because the selection is not the best down there but if you get desperate their is a Pizza Hut in the plaza. If your going down to have a good time and meet a ton of people, Playa Naco is the spot to go.
UNREAL!

WOW! What a week! I couldn't have asked for anything more from this resort. I just arrived home from my 7 day long vacation (March 13-17), and I can't beileve the people who whine about the smallest things. I went down with 16 of my good high school friends (it was sort of a grad trip thing) and we loved it. Most people whine about the smallest things, the food, or a room problem, whatever. When I first got to my room it was a standard room with 1 bed and paint dripping from the roof, where it was supposed to be a superior room with 2 beds...a half hour later i was in a 1 bedroom sweet, well worth the half hour wait, even if they hadn't upgraded me, it wouldn't have been that bad. The food, was pretty good, you could always find something to eat at the buffet, and if not, there was a pizza place upstairs right above the buffet which I heard mixed opinions about, but I enjoyed. And if thats not enough for you, hot dogs and hamburgers at the Beach Grill were great. Also, we ate at the Tex-Mex and the Pasta restaraunts, and they were really good, you have to make reservations and you can eat there either at 6:30 or 8:30 in the evening, well worth it. The pool bar is the place to be, the bar tender Justo always had a smile on, and loved to let the tequilla flow like water. The VIP Lounge was a great place to get a few beer around 7 or 8 pm as it was air conditioned, had a big screen TV (with ESPN2 and MTV). Tops disco was pretty weak most nights, I suggest you start drinking at VIP Lounge maybe head to tops for a few minutes then around 12:30 head to Crazy Moon (if your 30 years old or younger) or Hemmingways (if your over 30). There about a 4-7 minute walk from the resort, and there really fun. At crazy moon theres a cover and dress code (pants and long sleeve shirts, no sandals) on Friday Saturday and Sunday. Also, drinks are 70 pesos each here, that builds up, so fill your boots at VIP or Tops. I suggest getting off the resort a day or 2, the Jeep Safari Tour was so much fun! Talk to Ambi on the beach, and try for $25 US a tour, and don't pay more than $30. We also tried the ATV Tours...and don't bother. The tour guide ended up crashing into my friend and tried to blame it on my friend, which resulted in ending the tour, and us only getting $10 of $27 back for our 30 minute tour which was supposed to be 3 hours. Apparantly the resort was very noisy for the week we were there, and since we did make most of the noise I can't comment on it, there was a fair number of pissed off parents, but a lot of people took a liking to us and joined in our binge drinking habits. To sum it up, you'll have a great time here, just don't let a little thing get to you, like bad food, or a room problem, just take it to front desk, and they'll do everything they can to help you out. I met many middle aged people at the resort who said it was there 3rd or 4th time at Playa Naco, and that they only enjoyed it more every time they went. I promise you, if you ignore the little things, you'll have the best week of your life.

WONDERFUL VACATION First of all I want to start out by saying that I recently stayed at Playa Naco (March 9th 2004 - March 16th 2004). Like yourself I read as many reviews about the place as I could and must admit I was very skeptical about going to Playa Naco. Once I got there though, I don't know what kind of drugs these people were on to write bad reviews. The resort was AWESOME!! The staff were completely friendly and VERY helpful. The rooms were VERY clean and looked very nice. They looked like newer rooms. I am not an adventerous food person so I did not explore too many items, but the food I did eat was EXCELLENT especially the Italian restaurant. The pool was BEAUTIFUL and kept very clean. They had fun games by the pool and played wonderful music. They had a great water volleyball area. A FANTASTIC swim up bar. I enjoyed playing pool and ping pong in the game room. I just can't say enough positive things about this place. I can't wait to go back. You definately get what you pay for and a little more! I think the people who write the bad reviews are people who want to pay slim to nothing and expect the world. Cheap people. Well I paid a nice chunk of change and definately got more then I bargained for. The security guards were very friendly and made the resort feel very safe. Every night they had a show in the Grand Salon and those were so FUN! They get the audience involved in some and just make you laugh and have a good time. They had several activities that were included with your stay for example horse back riding, I just can't say enough good things about this place. It is definately worth it! Have a blast if you go!
Nice Beach Horrible food buffet sucked

I was there on March 9 2004 until March 16, The food really sucked and the nightly entertainment wanst like how I htought it would be at all. It could have been alot better. Go somewhere else. Unless you just want to get a tan and get drunk.
Never go here, sleep in a box...it would be nicer

All i have to say is that this place was a complete dump, i went there two years ago and still the awful memory sticks in my mind! It doesn't even deserve one star. we got there and we were so disgusted by the rooms that we had to switch to suites and still they were only semi-decent. the drinks were terrible (even though they always are at all inclusives) The pool was okay...far from the beach. the rooms were SICK...the food was disgusting. DON'T GO THERE
BUYER BEWARE-MOTEL HELL

Just returned on the Feb 20th, 2004 and my husband and I had the most horrible experience of our life. My mother and father we vacationing with us as well. The resort is about 13-15 year old, and truly shows that there has been absolutly no upkeep at all. The three restuarants were tasteless, and the buffet was the same everyday. The Carribian Grill served five choices off the menu, and the rest you had to pay for. The food was terrible, for the steak we needed a chainsaw, and the shrimp were mushy mash potato like. The Mexican resturant was ok, and the service was fair. The Italian resturant was basic pasta with sauce. If you are looking for a good time, please stay at the at the Paradise, we visited this resort may times while our stay on the island. The disco-Tops was run down, and the entertainment was a joke, and don't expect to drink for free. The disco closed early if it wasen't busy. After 11pm, you will not find alcohole availably. there are no lounges open after 11pm for drinks. The service at this resort was just terrible, usless yo were feeding there pockets with peso's $$$$. Now for the accomodations. Our room was so run down, the mold and rust along with the spiders that have made there home there too, I have pic's. The rooms on the third floors have old A/C units and are so loud, don't plan on getting any sleep. On our third night our a/c unit blew up, and we were with out air for a day, we asked to be moved and we were shoved off, we finally got moved to a lower level room and it was not much better, just quiter. We had to pay our maid everyday to get water to brush our teeth, towles and whatever else we were supposed to have in our room to begin with. She stole a refrigerator from another room along with a blow dryer and TV remote that most all room were lacking. These rooms are in much need of gutting and rebuilding. The pool was ok, activities at 4pm were ok, the beache was my favorite place to be. If you are looking for a midnight soak in the hot tub, NOPE, one was cold and broken, and the other is drained at 9pm or so.Take a lesson is Spanish if you have booked this resort, because no one speaks English, and don't plan on being served, you will serve yourself here. I'm not a snooty person at all, I just want buyer's to know what there are getting into, had our room been clean and free of bugs and properly up to par for a standard room, our stay would have been ok. Feel free to e-mail with other Q's.
Better than others, but not the greatest still...

This hotel had INCREDIBLY FRIENDLY staff, but otherwise wasn't anything to brag about. Rooms were average, grounds better than others, the food was absolutely terrible (My friend and I ate yogurt and rice the whole week). But it had a great and fairly clean location on the beach, not far from some markets. Quite honestly, 99.9% of the staff were awesome! (the disco manager tried to take one of our drunk friends into his office to "talk" when none of us were looking). All in all, a slightly below average resort with way above average staff.
Good price, mediocre resort

This was my second trip to DR and I was much happier last time at another resort in Bayahibe. This time was for 2 weeks, and the first one was lame. Here're the bad parts: Even before the food poisoning, I found the buffet food really bland and "chewy". The hot-tubs were actually cold bubbly tubs and rarely ever used. The towel service was often out. The bathroom tissue was 1/2 ply (ie. it had holes in it). And almost no one did any of the sports... the resort seemed more like an old age home. Due to the high wind, large waves and mini reefs, I wouldn't recommend anyone try to learn sailing/windsurf there anyway. Lastly, the resort is next to a helicopter landing pad, so they buzz the beach every 20 minutes and the airport is close and the jumbo's seems like they might land on the beach. If that doesn't distract you from relaxing, the vendors walking by every minute will. So anything good to say? Yup: it was cheap and the place livened up a lot during Reading Week. The Cipro kicked in and I figured out which buffet foods to eat. The restaurant food was good. Another resort was so close I could play v-ball there. The beach was nice with big waves and had plenty of lawn chairs and drinks close by. Also, there were a lot of Canadians there. I prefer to meet people from other countries when I travel but if you're more comfy with your fellow Canucks, this is a good place for that.
If your a young girl traveling to DR for the first time, and staying at Celuisma, be wary of the Boys that work in animation, as they will tell you they love you, and then try and get you to give them money. These are called sankies. By all means, have your fun, but be... more
