After a few days of open water sailing, the firm beds, hot showers, air conditioned room, and the friendly gecko's found at this small family-run hotel were a welcome change. Situated on a very scenic and peaceful harbour where from your open-aired breakfast table you can watch young children on small sailing boats racing in a morning Regatta, with a full service secured marina (complete with on-shore boat storage and rigging repair services on site) owned and run by one of Antigua's most legendary sailors, Sir Hugh Bailey, this hotel is not a destination for those seeking an all inclusive resort or loud disco/casino environments. But the Catamaran hotel is a wonderful spot to spend some quiet time off the boat, and as a base from which to explore the Island of Antigua. Brother Neville Bailey (aka Toots.. and thank you again for taking such good care of us) is the most insightful, entertaining, and personable 'taxi' driver that I have every met... who can produce fascinating stories about every square inch of the island, who seems to know every person that you see, and who will leave you with the sense that you are in good hands during your stay. The rooms were private, and each was distinct...a combination of flat-screen satellite TV and dark-wood antique 4-poster beds. The small beach and pool are not destinations, but more of a refreshing spot to cool down and share a rum punch with other sailing guests from around the world. The staff (especially Ron, who seems to be running the entire show from 6 am to midnight) were warm, friendly, and quick to laugh. This was a wonderful shady spot to lay over and recuperate from the 'rigors' of sailing in the waters surrounding Antigua.
