I agree how could anyone not like this place, we went first in 2006 then again in 2007 and we are returning again in about 2weeks.
It is such a friendly place to be staff, especialy bar staff are so friendly willing to help out almost like friends by the end of the holiday, ok i can maybe see where you are coming from with the food issue but c'mon! you want brilliant top class food go out! and as for the open restaraunt try and find a hotel in barbados with the restaurant inside i know i would not enjoy it!
Rooms are okay.. by that i meen for the amount you use them (sleepin, showering preparing for the day/night) they are good if you are after top class rooms beautifly designed go to sandy lane!.
Entertainment is brilliant, it may not be on for that long per night but for what you get it is goood!
Activities one of the things that makes this place so great there is everything! you could never run out of things to do
Top class hotel will return year after year
10/10

i cant believe people didn,t like this hotel. I stayed here for two weeks and loved every minute of it. we even got married here my inlaws who have been all over the world came for the second week loved it that much that they want to go back. the trips we went on were fantastic. yes the food was a bit spicey alot of variety and if you was fussy they were burgers and pizza and chips. they made our wedding very special everytime i look at the video i cry. i would recommend this hotel to anyone even kids our daughter came with us who was 11 and she had a great time. it was fabulous. the entertainment was everynight and different it finished at 12 so we could go to sleep after all we was up for 5 am it was glorious on the beach at 5.30 am as it was dark at 6pm. 10 out of 10

wow what a great holiday. when we first got to our hotel we were a bit disapointed. there were 23 of us going because me and my partner were getting married and our first thought of the hotel was not very good but i couldnt be more wrong. we all had a fantastic time, the hotel was fine and all the staff were very polite apart from 1 of the bar staff who must of had a bad week!! we would recomend it to anybody. it was that good that we have booked again for feb 2009

Don't Waste your money going to Sandy Bay Beach Hotel.
Barbados itself was a lovely place and I would go back to that country but not that hotel, also the people was very nice.
The only good thing about the holiday was the flight, weather and a few trips we went on, other than that it was disgusting and a waste of money.
It needs pulling down and rebuilding.
The hotel was nothing like advertised in the brochure it was horrible, and the food was even worse.
The restaurants was open so you had birds flying about and coming down and eating of the tables and crapping everywhere. They was also nesting in the roof of the restaurants so they would also feed their babies as well.
The restaurant's was self service and the lids was off the trays and the birds would come down and help themselves to that food as well. The lids would be left of the trays for hours in that heat as well.
In the room we had the bedroom was upstairs, but the window wouldn't open so if there was a fire downstairs you would not get out.
The toilet leaked down into the living area and left stains on the walls.
There was only 7 umbrellas’ for the whole of the people in the hotel, so if you wanted one you had to be up and on the beach by 6.30am otherwise you would not get one.
You go on holiday to relax not get up early to get an umbrella. Round the so called big swimming pool there was only two umbrellas’ and none round the small pool.
While we was there people was asking to be moved to different hotels because it was so bad. One couple would not even go into the restaurant because of the cats and birds.
When ever went to complain the Virgin Rep just laughed at us.

My hubby and I stayed here from the 20th dec 06 for 1 week as we booked a twin centre holiday we travelled over to Antigua for the new year. This hotel was lovely and its right on the beach with clean with calm shallow blue water. The sunset views here are stunning and it makes for a lovely stroll. We were disapointed on arrival as we paid almost £5000 for our holiday and we did expect it to look like it did in the pictures but they are misleading, they appear to offer a spacious pool which in fact is fairly small and the adult only jaquzzi allows children to splash around in i know kids like to have fun but adults wants to chill out in the supposed desiganted area and this wasnt possible. The pics show a fresh clean decorated bar area, but this was nothing like the blue & white fresh in fact it was brown and quite smelly. BUT PLEASE DONT LET THIS PUT YOU OFF... as i am told by a friend who has been there since we went and she says its been refurbed and they had an amazing honeymoon there, I just expected a little more of an update cleaner hotel for Barbados & for what we paid, but its rated at a 3* plus so i suppose thats a fair rating.
The drinks ( the rum punch) is too nice !! the food options werent great and very repetitive we also paid for a ocean front room which should have been located with the pool / spa literally on our terrace area as we were told this was the only room left, so we paid the £400 supplment for this but when we were shown to our room we were right at the back of the hotel above reception and with a partial ocean view non the less the room was 2 storey and huge but we did not need a 2 bed room and the family that had been given our 1 bed room needed a a 2 but they were too pleased with the view and direct pool access, but the reception didnt help us at all they said that the family had arrived before us and were already unpacked, we were not happy but wed travelled all that way and were not going to let it ruin our holiday ( upon return i told the travel agent and virgin sent us a £100 good will VOUCHER - a bloody cheek as we paid cash when we booked not voucher and they sent us a £84 cheque) aparantly we should have insisted on being given the room we booked and paid for, well we tried this but short of evicting the other holiday makers what could we do !
Barbados is beautiful, we felt safe shopping in Bridgetown and we strolled around the harbour / marina, i went shopping xmas eve alone while my then boyfriend stayed on the beach and i wouldnt have done that if i didnt feel safe. We visisted the SANDY LANE - celeb hotel by a public lane access we sat on the beach, bought drinks from the bar and took a stroll around the hotel shops and gardens. we spotted Michael Winner sunbathing and simon cowell was aparantly there along with other celebs but we didnt see him !! We plan to holiday on Barbados again, and i would stay at the Sandy Lane again but i would research if it had been refurbed and menu options by emialing the hotel direct before booking. Our 2nd week was spent on Antigua a hour or so flight on a small plane ( a little scarey) see my review for JOLLY BEACH RESORT - ANTIGUA - my hubby propsed there that week and we retruned there last July to marry and it was AMAZING!!!!
