Staff very friendly. Apartment was fairly 'basic' with no where to put our clothes except hanging space in wardrobes. The beds were damp and the apartment was infested with flees.
We all returned covered in bites, other holiday makers were also suffering so I suspect that our apartment was typical.
The food was edible, but more suited to folks who like fish, octopus and squid. Meat meals were available but were not impressive.
The all inclusive package included soft drinks and beer in the apartment fridge, but we had to chase up our refills most days.
To summarise, I have had worse accommodation, but I also have has much better. It is unlikely that I would return to this V.I.P. Gold Crown resort.

The Hacienda Suites and Villas were basic and unfortunately due to a broken/leaking bath/shower, we had to be moved - although this took them more than 2 days to do.
The first day included a hard sell of the Executive Villas, which we were not expecting, especially as it was hot and we were tired from traveling.
The all inclusive buffet food was very good and the themed nights good fun. However there were a few select restaurants which you could book. If staying for a week, you could book on two nights, however we could only book three nights, despite the fact we were there for two weeks. We felt that we should certainly have been given the option for at least four nights, if not five, out of the fourteen. After a while, the buffet food became very boring.
I would not go back to the Hacienda Suites and Villas, but enjoyed Puerto Plata and the Dominican Republic as a whole, so would possibly find alternative accommodation if a return journey was made.
