Just got back from the most fabulous holiday on Koh Samui.
The Nova Samui was lovely, a mile from Cheweng beach, just over the road from Cheweng lake. The hotel was very peaceful, but only a few minutes away by free shuttle bus from the beach, restaurants and shops. Alternatively it was a very pleasant, easy walk in by the side of the lake.
The hotel was a traditional style with lots of wood and very open and spacious. Our room was simply furnished, but very pleasant. The bathroom was a little tired, but perfectly serviceable. The views from our room over the lake, pool and gardens were beautiful.
Breakfast was a buffet with hot and cold choices, this varied a bit each day however there was always toast, fresh fruit and omelettes cooked to order.
The staff were lovely; courteous, friendly and so helpful. The hotel was kept very clean, inside and by the pool and our room was kept beautifully clean. There was a dog in the hotel, he was well cared for and no bother
I would recommend this hotel if you are after somewhere down to earth, peaceful and friendly and you don't mind being a few minutes from the beach.

I had a fantastic time at this hotel! I have read several reviews on other sites where people have rated it very low and felt these were unfair.
The staff here were so friendly and were willing to do anything at all you needed.
The rooms were basic but clean. There was enough storage space for cases etc, and you got a safe and mini bar too. The bathroom was fine to, the shower wasn't very strong, but it wasn’t a problem!
The swimming pool was fantastic; it was large and has a waterfall which cascades into it. I spent a lot of time around it, and it was never too busy either. The meals were really naively cooked, and you can order them to eat around the pool too.
I had Thai massage every day down by the pool and again I couldn't fault it.
If you want to be right on the beach or a 5minute walk from the beach then this is not the property for you. They run a free shuttle bus to the beach every 20minutes or something like that, which was fine by us, and in the evening you can catch the shuttle bus into the centre of chaweng which is a 5minute ride away!!
Several people have complained about stray dogs on this hotel site, but they are not strays, they are dogs which have been taken in by the hotel, and live there. There is nothing wrong with them they are clean and looked after. They do sit around by the restaurant sometimes, and they have free run of the grounds but they are actually very friendly! This is common practice in many of the hotels and cafes there!
I would really recommend this property as for a 3* it is really good! If you are worried it is too far out, they offer car hire which we did and it was cheap too. We got to see most of the island!

Stayed in the Nova Samui in May 2006 for 2 weeks and couldn’t fault it. Staff friendly, rooms clean and comfortable.
Hotel is situated just outside Chaweng but is walking distance and hotel provides a complimentary taxi to and from the main road and the beach.
There is a suit shop in the foyer to the hotel and the man who works there is very nice, if a little determined to get you to buy a suit. In the end we did buy one and it was impeccable.
We only ate in the restaurant for breakfast and there was a lot of choice, buffet style.
Internet access was available in the foyer and it was cheap.
The pool was beautiful.

Beautiful rooms on the hill overlooking the lake. Most rooms beautiful but some rooms could use having the air con upgraded. Luckily, as relatives had visited before we all knew the staff by their first names, so we never had any problems getting served. Its a really nice hotel and it is one a lot of people return to year in year out.
I was relieved to be staying here after seeing the close proximity of hotels next to one another in Chaweng. This hotel is slightly out of chaweng but you can easily walk back or if impatient go on one of the motorbike taxis as it is only a short ride away (cheap!). The food there is authentic and doesn't pretend to be what it isn't and there are plenty of Thai dishes on the menu - we recommend the satay chicken!
Now back in the UK I miss most sitting on the balcony raiding the mini bar for the singha beers and playing scrabble to the sounds of the lizzards.... Will be going back very very soon and can't wait. If it wasn't for relatives we probably would not have found this hotel as it has been renamed a couple of times.
The negative is that they should hire someone to maintain the pool during the day, just to fish out the leaves from the drain in the pool. Other than leaves the pool is clean and the waterfall is great for cooling off during the day.
To all - If you stay here, you could do a lot worse.. trust me, been there and got the T-shirt.
