Fun Tropicale Beach Resort Hotel

This was my first time to the Domincan Republic and what a surprise!!! The Fun Tropicale was excellent. All the staff were so friendly the food was great and the animation team were the best I have ever seen, they put so much work into what they do and you could see they were proud of the service that they were giving. I have seen some of the other reports about this hotel and cannot understand why they found it so bad. Even the cleaners that came to do the rooms tried there hardest to talk to you even though they didn't speak very good english. I have been to other places and the staff always seem to preocupied to bother with their guests. i can not wait to go back and as soon as it on sale will be booking straight away.

The people were very friendly in the resort, but unfortunatley the resort has not been kept up with the decore it has not been painted for the last 15 years and the food menu has not been updated for the last 9 years (as told by one of the staff). the trip called perto plata city tour is not worth the money you only get 5 mins each in the rum factory you only see the bottle plant about 120yards long and the amber museum is only about a 5x4 room and then you are ushered into the shop to buy. It is very expensive to buy even if you haggle we were all inclusive and still spent £800 and had very little to show for it. On the other side of the trips the monster truck was excellent to go on. there was horse riding included if you wanted to do it you were taken around where jurasic park was filmed plus much more. If like myself you wanted to see the whales then dont go before february as they dont turn up much before then not like it states in the brochure also the tour operators in the complex no longer do the waterfalls as they have become dangerous. there is no drink driving law in the dominican republic so if you go out with the locals you dont know how drunk the driver might be. The deep sea fishing is a con the boat does not have radar to help find the fish and you end up just drinking out at sea.In january it is still the winter season and if like us you may get a couple of days torrentual rain. the activities is a cross between 18-30s and butlins witha copule of the shows being very good. We will go back to the dominican republic again but not at this hotel

The resort as a whole was ok. We were moved rooms three times in total due to things breaking down or not working (in one room the air con, the telephone and the lock on the french windows were broken). Items went missing from our room, and other people in our group had things stolen from their rooms, but no locks had been forced, which begs the question 'who has keys to theses rooms?' The entertainment was good, all round fun and catered for all ages from toddlers up to adults, with the Animation team being very popular (particularly one guy the crowd nicknamed "daisy") There was a bit of an uproar when the management decided to close the Sun Tan and Bananas bar at midnight, so out went the "24hr Bar" part of the all inclusive holiday. We were advised not to drink water from the taps, as standard, but on several occasions, barmen were seen filling water containers from taps!! At least half my group suffered with a stomach upset of some sort during the trip, with me getting mine on the day of our departure (special thanks to the cabin crew on flight TCX065L who looked after me on the way back, don't know what I would have done without you!!!)

Absolute disgrace, dirty hotel no clean towels, no cleaning of the room, no beds changed in the 2 weeks we were there, food not fit for eating as either cold, or not cooked or had dead insects etc in it. No power and water for near on 2 days. Was more like an 18-30's holiday rather than a relaxing holiday.
I would never go back, absolutely horrendous and ruined Christmas and New Year!!

FUN ROYALE & TROPIRCALE HOTEL
On booking our holiday to the Caribbean we were dead excited and couldn’t wait to go as we have never been to the Caribbean before plus I had heard only of good reports from friends how they have enjoyed it there and would go back there, the lady in Fist Choice looked through the holidays with us we looked at a couple of holidays in the Dominican there where 4stars and this 3 star hotel but we both agreed the 3 star had more to offer then the 4 star ,the 3star had a 24hr bar and more entertainment then the 4star as the 4 star only had a 12hour bar and hardly any entertainment I was apprehensive as it was only a 3star and we normal go into 4-5 star hotels , so we booked in to the Fun Royale & Tropircale Playa Dorada Dominican Republic, when we arrived the porter show us to are room on the Fun Royale side ,he open the door and I just wanted to cry , it was dirty, we had dead fly’s and mosquitoes on the window ledges and lying dead in the sink which the sink looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in ages as it had grime on it ,we had a wasps which kept on coming in after my husband had put them out through the patio door which we couldn’t understand we then noticed we had a wasp nest in the roof ,the toilet handle was broken ,and the bath was dirty ,at this stage I really just wanted to get the next fight home that was in matter of say 1hour after we got there ,as we had not much money to up grade to another hotel which could have been the same as this one so we decided not to ,after I had good cry we decided to go and complain about are room in which they moved us to another room on Tropircale side which was 50 % better, least only the sink had a leak in which they did fix, the shower the taps turned in the wall as you switched them on , there was no sealed bottle water only a big bottle in which the maid filled up for us suppose to be from a tap in another part of the building but when they where cleaning I never saw no one bring water in so I suspected they used the water from are room in which we ended up with the stomach bug in which most people in our hotel did which was not pleasant , there were ants going in the fridge walking up and down the seal of the door I glad we only had water in the fridge .I also notice staff using the toilets on adults side of the building by the 24 hour bar then going back to server people in which the was no soap for you to wash your hand and toilets hardly ever flushed defiantly a hygiene issue.
2 days before we left I saw a baby cockroach walking over the salad bar but most days the where a load of fly’s crawling and flying over the salad, on speaking also to other people staying at this hotel 1 person had moved 5 times other people at least 2 or 3 times which complaints where toilets when flushing excrement came up over the top of the toilet in stand of going down ,or the toilet not working at all ,roof leaking, bed bugs .no hot water ,we where eaten alive by mosquitoes and sand fleas like most people there. I left people crying wishing it was them that was going home
We also got utterly fed up with time share people trying to get you to buy time share in this hotel they be waiting on the corner for you , on going to breakfast lunch dinner it also put us off going for meals
But saying all this the Dominican people where friendly, and the 2 excursions we went on where good its just a shame about the hotel hygiene stranded ,the hotel could do with knocking down and rebuilding it or defiantly updating ,
I would not recommend this hotel to no one not sure if I would go back to the Dominican from the experience we had from this hotel.
Please do not recommend this hotel to anyone

we have just returned from a 2 week holiday from hell at the fun fun fun tropical!!! the hotel basic standards were not even met. poor hygeine throughout. dirty sheets. dirty towels and ant infested. the general maintenence was well below standard throughout the hotel complex. the fridge we had for the first week was disgusting, then it flooded our room, it was taken away & gladly not replaced.the food quality was abysmal. almost everything was fried and tasted the same. the fresh fruit was covered in flies. watch out not to sit in bird crap from the vermin eating off your plates and the ants crawling up up your legs. due to the 'restaurant' being open aired there was no airconditioning.although i must say the italian & brazilian were marginly better. we ate out in the plaza on several occasions. the activities both day and night were overbearing, however i can see an attraction for the kids. especially if they have been served one too may rum punches!!!!!on a positive, the locals were v friendly and the beach was a haven away from the butlins type compound!! although we did a couple of trips, we felt we hadnt seen the real DR and we could have been anywhere from bognor to the costa del sol.we first thought it was us being over fussy, but trust me on speaking with lots of other guests, im being quite kind in this review. we travelled with thomas cook, they should seriously consider offering this hotel.

I've Just Booked To Go Back To This Hotel Again.
It Was A Brilliant Holiday, And I Coudnt Have Asked For Better.
As For All These Poor Ratings...It Isnt True.
Readin Through About People Complanin About Mosquito's, Wild Animals, And Fly's, You're In The Carribean, What Do You Expect?
And As For The Upset Tummy's? You're In a Completely Different Enviroment, Of Course Your Body Needs To Re adjust.
The Hotel Was Spotless, And My Sheets Where Changed Almost Everyday, As Were The Towels.
When They Complain About Staff Pestering you To Join In?...Hotel "Fun" Tropicale.
It's All About Fun, Joining In And Having A Laugh.
The Staff Where Extremely Freindly, And Made You Feel Very Welcome And Happy.
Fun Royale/Tropical Is A 3 Star Hotel, And Lives Greatley Up to Its Standard. If U Want More, Look To A 5 Star.
Its A Truly Great Holiday, And I Recommend to Everybody.

I went to fun tropical with my boyfriend, it was our first holiday together! we paid £620 each for all inclusive, and was worth every penny. we had an amazing time! the adult pool is quiet(somewhere to go if u just want to chill) and the main pool is lively, always something going on! it is great for kids!!!
We went on three excusions sasua beach, ocean world and whitewater rafting. it was amaing i would recommend these trips to everyone! the dolphins and sealions are not to be missed, if ur over there do not forget to give them a visit, it is a bit pricey but sooo worth it, we didnt have enough time in the day to see all of the park!
I must admit that we were both ill when visiting, however we do not blame the food at all, and i was bitten, quite badly, however i knew that this can happen in the rainy season, take lots of repelent! i didnt let it get to me!
Fun tropical is a 3star, if u want any better, go somewhere else, we think we got what we paid for! if u are going have a wonderful time.

BEST HOLIDAY EVER!
JUST HAVE TO SAY JIMMY IS SOOOO NICE FROM THE QUAD BIKES BUT IT'S TUFF LUCK FOR ALL YOU GIRLS BECAUSE HE DOESN'T WORK THERE ANYMORE :p

BEDROOMS WEREN'T VERY GOOD THOUGH COULD DO WITH A MAKEOVER BUT YOU ONLY HAVE TO SLEEP IN THEM ANYWAY

i have been visiting the fun royale / tropicale for 9 years now and i still love it.
i go every year and for a change this year i took my best friend. when we arrived everyone was glad to see us and they all thought she was my sister and treated her like family. we had all the staff taking us on days out and bike rides.
one thing im shocked not to see it people complaining about is the excursions lack of safety. i went horse riding an had no helmets and walked alongside cars an vans not very safe at all. when getting off the horse where the man had tightened the staddle i had my foot trapped fell and snapped the ligament the staff at the hotel when we got back wer very considerate they got me to the hospital and translated everything that what said. i could say i have alot of history with these staff as a few years ago we went for a ride on the motorbikes still no helmets and my uncle crashed which killed him an nearly killed my dad many staff flew to england for the funeral and sent flowers and payed for his wife to stay in the country.
sometimes the staff do ignore the children but you do have to consider the heat they work in the money they earn (its not much) an the hours they do. considering alot of things are quite expensive look at the costs it is for them to live an i no alot of them read these forums and do take into consideration what they say .
i love this hotel and have always found it to be a great holiday ive been there many times from 2 week holidays to spending the month and when im at home im constantly in touch with the staff there like my second family.
the resort is amazing and it has some great shows but if you start chatting to staff about things to do then they will probably show you the time of your life an you will become 'repeaters'
