There are many reasons I would not go back to Tropical Sol Apartments and would advise anyone else to stay well away. This was our fourth 4* aparthotel booked through Thomson in the last 5 years, another two of which were also in the Algarve. Although Tropical Sol was... more

Very Clean well kept apartments and public areas one complaint would be about the swimming pool the tiles on the bottom of the pool are quiet rough and a lot of children including my own had sore feet. There is a sign up at the poolside stating that "if you are going to be... more

We've stayed in his area on a number of occasions (Rodrimar, Valmangude, Alta Oura, etc.) but the Tropical Sol is the best. Clean well decorated rooms, well equipped kitchen area and comfy beds. Nice pool area as mentioned earlier and handy pool side snack bar to get a... more

tropical sol apartments albufeira
Have just returned from the above apartments, very clean and a good size, we had a room which could sleep four but there were just the two of us. A bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and lounge area which has table chairs, two big chairs, sofa which converted to a bed with a pull out bed underneath. All of the rooms overlook the good sized pool area. There is a pool bar serving snacks and drinks. Towels were changed daily and the maid came in every day except Sunday. It was about a five minute walk to the strip with bars restaurants and shops, this is the lively area, but you can go off the strip to quieter parts. The hotel ran a courtesey bus to the beach Mon to Fri left apartments at 9.45 and you could get it back at 1 or 4.30 in the afternoon. It also went to the old town at 10 in the morning. We never had a bad meal in the resort in our two weeks there. There is also a bar in the apartments which a nice young couple ran. If you went out of the apartments and turn left there is a small supermarket and just a bit further on a lovely bakery for your fresh bread for breakfast, and lovely cakes too.
Excellent
We have just returned from a lovely holiday in the Algarve, at the Tropical Sol, We - being 4 adults, the appartment was ideal for us, there is plenty of room, with it only being 1 bedroom, thought it may be a bit small, but no way, the rooms are very spacious. Very clean, The Staff were lovely, and very helpful, Clean swimming pool, I would reccomend these appartments to anyone, if it is your first time in the Algarve, give the Tropical Sol a try, you won,t be dissapointed. Abit of a walk to the beach, so get the Wally trolly. also if you not very good on walking, make sure you take a good pair of shoes, as the pavements are mostly tiles.a few humps and bumps, you have to be careful where you are walking. Great places to eat on the Strip. Just round the corner from Tropical Sol, is a lovely Bakery, open 8 am - 10 pm.
good seif catering
hi to all you self catering folk, if like us you only do the mininun (if any)youll find a great bakery right along side the hotel just past the shop.where you can buy the best cakes and bread you will taste.just up the way on the same street as the entrance to the hotel on your way to the strip you will find and you must try the Best restaurant AREIAS, dont wait till you have only a few days to go before your on your way home, i know it has no view and it is not on the beach but give it a try you owe it to your taste buds ,have a great holiday.
A great time had by all!
Just returned from the Algarve this weekend and stayed at the Tropical Sol. One bedroom apartment on the ground floor was extremely spacious with a lovely terrace leading to the pool area. Snack bar and evening bar excellent with great prices - a very large glass of white wine at the snack bar - only €1.50!!! The entire complex was kept very clean and the staff were friendly. One small complaint was some street noise in the bedroom at night. However after a few nights we got used to it and it didn't bother us! The location is good for The Strip and the Taxi Rank to the Old Town. Beach is about 10 minutes walk away. Climate was just right. Hot in the day but with a breeze and cooler in the evening. Some evenings we needed long sleeves so come prepared! We hired a car for 3 days and travelled around which was great. My 16 year old daughter loved it too. There were quite a few teenagers staying with their families and she made some very good friends. If you want high quality apartments, close to bars, restaurants and shops and in a good location for exploring, I would recommend the Tropical Sol, especially if you have teenagers!
After 13 yrs in Portugal 6 of which at the Tropical Sol
For 13 years, 4 generations of our family have visited the Algarve. We have stayed in villas, apartments and hotels. For the last 5 years (and soon during this year) we have stayed at the Tropical Sol. We have seen the Algarve change during this long period however, during our repeated stays at the Tropical Sol, the standard, the cleaniness of the rooms, pool and garden areas, the attitude of all the staff at the reception, pool bar and cleaners, has always been more than acceptable, attentive and courteous. The age range of our family is 2 years to 82 years, whilst they can't cater for a 6 star plus environment and be there for every individual's demanding needs, ovevall I doubt if anyone would dispute, for an organisation to cater for the needs of such an age range is an achievement in itself. We find it difficult to understand where the few perceived negative reviews have come from, particularly when some of the individuals have already organised a repeat holiday at the very same place. Without sounding pretentious, whilst spending 13 years in the Algarve, the family members do have many other holdiays throughout the year, long-haul, worldwide and visiting some very unusual countries/places. Our time at the Tropical Sol as an annual family holiday to the Med. more than satisfies our high standards and demanding needs for our family. It has been by far one of our best experiences for this type of holiday. PS: Much to our disappointment we have never seen any action from the Strip-Club as we are still out enjoying ourselves, it is a struggle to get the 82 year old home before 6 am to get the towel on the bed !!!!!

just come bk from the algarve and loved the place 1 of the nest holidays we have ever been on, the four of us went myself husband and two boys aged 17 and 15 my eldest son stephen loved it soo much hes gunna go bk within the next 2 months wif his mates.we loved everything about the hotel it was all great we couldnt fault a thing, the weather was brilliant the whole week we stayed there. the beach is a 15 minute walk but if u r not up for the walk theres a bus that goes from the hotel there and other places too. the strip is just round the corner bout a 5 minute walk.dnt be put off by the coments about the strip club opposite it osnt there anymore.recommend the place to anyone its fab so get out there!!!!!
Wish I was back there now!
Myself and my girlfriend visited the Algarve and stayed in The Tropical Sol Apartments from 31st of March to 7th of April. I was very impressed with the level of service which is offered by all of the staff on site, specifically Antonio the receptionist who was outstanding. Having failed to work out how to use the room safe (yes, I know - its basic!) Antonio was happy to show us. He was also happy to translate via phone for us when we were booking trips - Very helpful. Although the apartments were quiet (with the season not yet having started) all of the staff were very friendly and accomodating. I would strongly recommend a visit to the onsite bar which is run by Marco. Marco speaks inpecable English and will keep you entertained, even though he technically isn't cabaret! :) Our twin room was extremely spacious and was decked out with everything you would need to eat inside the apartment. The only thing I couldn't find was an iron! Rooms are airconditioned and very clean. Room service tend to call in the afternoons, but will return later if this is requested. Entertainment within the apartments is a bit basic (pool table, a few games machines) and the pool is not heated (however its bearable once you get in!). There is a cafe near the pool which serves breakfast, lunch and some snack items. It is also fully licensed like the bar. All in all, this is an excellent place to say and is only a five minute walk from the strip. I will definately consider going back, even if its just for one of Marco's cocktails! Great Times
I absolutely love my stayed at the tropical sol the apartment was really nice the food was nice and the pool was lovely. everyone was very friendly and i will definetly stay there agian
disappointing
We thought these apartments were a good size and clean. However, when we visited in July/Aug 03 over 50% of people staying suffered with ear infections and the pool maintenance was felt to be the cause. There is also a problem with entry to the poolside in the mornings as the reception staff only permit those with poolside apartments (as they are already there) this means there is more than a stampede for the sunbeds+there are not enough of them. The strip club opposite was quite an eye opener when the "guests" are leaving around 3am!-not what you would hope for if you have a young family.
Management response from tropicalsol 28 Jun 2005

I understand that some people like to go to the pool area very early, but to avoid having all sunbeds with towells before 8 in the morning, sometimes we dont open the door before 9 as in regulations. the fact that some people have apartments in pool area doesnt give them any extra privilege, when they "reserve" sunbeds before that time and we ask them not to do it (when we find who they are) the next day they wayt for 09,00h as everyone else. i hope that you dont expect we leave people on the street waiting to go back to their apartments after 09.00h. About ear infections, most of the people who have that problem are sensitive to chemicals and the pain doesnt mean there is bacterias in the watter, i advise you to use ear protection and not to dive, (i have the same problem). At the Tropicalsol we have a contract with a laboratory for regular watter analysis and untill now we are very happy also with the automatic sistem we have. ít´s dificult to please 100% but we do our best and we are always open to sugestions (some we can do and some we cant). I apologise to anyone who didnt have a nice time here, because thats what holydays are for.

Receptionists? What a joke.
Although i have rated the apts "terrible", that is not the case the place itself is brill. I only have one major problem - and that is the attitudes of the so called receptionists. Especially the short balding man who is without a doubt the most arrogant man i have ever encountered. He had the cheek to lock my son between the automatic doors and manual doors for 20mins one night because he didnt believe he was residing there. and also threatened to call the cops. FOR WHAT?? He is the most disrespectful man in the whole facility and i hope he gets sacked by the time i arrive next year. HE WILL NOT HELP YOU - NO MATTER WHAT THE PROBLEM IS!!! JF
