Comfort Inn Manhattan Hotel Reviews
" Comfortable flight with Virgin even... "

Comfortable flight with Virgin even though we were in Economy, with good choice of food and a useful amenity pack. Swift transfer was included in the price.
Hotel is in an older building on what looks quite a shabby street in a commercial area, but the location is very convenient. Macy's is 5 minutes walk in one direction, 5th Avenue is at the end of the road and the Empire State Building is one block down: amazing! There is a subway station at the end of the road and bus routes are close too.
The foyer is compact but comfortable with a free coffee machine. Small but swift lifts carry you to shabby landings; the mix and match carpets and random pictures made me think of a Blackpool guest house - the building does show its age here, especially in the STEEP stairs.
The rooms, however, are clean, well furnished and a good size, with all the facilities you would expect from a Comfort Inn, even down to a safe and an iron / ironing board in the closet. Good range of toiletries in the shower room. We had a huge bed, ample drawer and hanging space as well as a table and 2 chairs. Even though we were at the back of the hotel we were delighted by the view of part of the Empire State Building - had to lie on the floor to see the top!
Although coffee making facilities are not provided in the rooms there is an ice machine on every other floor and an ice bucket in each room, so we enjoyed our Snapple chilled! Room service was very quick and we were impressed by the huge portions - good value compared to the UK!
One bonus with Virgin was the complimentary breakfast in the adjoining bar - free danish, bagels and cereal.
Altogether a pleasant base for the exciting city of Manhattan.

" Great Hotel, complimentary breakfast... "

Great Hotel, complimentary breakfast was excellent a great selection.
Rooms are a little dated but if you want modern this isn’t for you, the place is spot less, staff friendly, comp. tea and coffee in reception and attached bar Brendans serves great food for dinner.
Excellent location, only feet from acys, but still quite enough, we had a room on the 4th floor it was huge, it wasn’t a suite, but there was a sofa/seating area and a great view of the empire state.
Definitely go and stay there again.

" This is not my first choice of hotel... "

This is not my first choice of hotel in Manhattan but was a place to crash for the night. It is very popular with Virgin Holidays and the British.
The public areas of the hotel are nice and the restaurant is very good. The lifts. Staircases and landings are quite oppressive.
Once you are in your room you appreciate why the cost is quite low for New York City. The rooms are small and quite dated in decor. The bed is quite hard and therefore was comfortable for me. The bathrooms seem to have been squeezed in and are fairly well designed. The shower worked which was a surprise as it looked very old.
Location-wise it cannot be beaten. Just one block from the Empire State Building and Fifth Avenue shopping!
The saving grace for the hotel is the concierge who is fantastic. He knows the city so well and if extremely friendly. He suggested a couple of "new" places for us to visit and they did not let him down. He will chat about your itinerary and advise you as to the order to do them. Speak to this man, he will make your holiday very special.

Perfect location if you want to walk to the main attractions of the city.
Within walking distance is the Empire State Building and Macy's department store.
A little bit further is Times square, NY public library, NY central station, the Rockefeller center, Madison square garden, the Chrysler building and a bit further than that is Central park.
The Hotel itself was clean, the rooms were spacious and well kept, the staff were helpful and were more than welcome to help explain and book any trips or excursions.
Definitely use this hotel again if we went back to New York.
Advice: The best view of Manhattan and the statue of Liberty is definitely from a Helicopter
Activities: Shelly's Steak house on 57th street between 5th and 6th avenues
Good for: City Breaks
