The Hotel Central is an excellent hotel for a short break. The location is brilliant, turn right out of the hotel doors and 5 minutes later you are in the old historical town with its trendy bars and cafes, great for couple's.
Turn left and you hit the new city with plenty of bars and cafes....( be warned! The new area has a very seedy side to it...strip bars etc..) Ceausescu's Palace and Revolution square are about a 15 - 20 minute walk south, The Palace has English tours every hour (15 lei...about £3).
There is a lot of traffic noise in the morning, as the hotel is only 20 yards away from Regina Elisabetha Road.
The hotel is right next door to McDonalds, so for young travellers it's probably great. But thankfully, there is no litter from McDonalds and no nasty smells. The hotel lobby is clean, bright and small, with a bar (when open) attached to one side. There is only one lift that can only carry 3 persons max.
The rooms (we had a triple room, 2 bedroom apartment 120 Euros a night) are really spacious and clean. The carpet could do with replacing though. We found the beds (which were all singles) were very narrow, but comfortable. Bathroom was large and bright with a nice shower and quite clean too. There is also satellite TV in both bedrooms which has the usual Basic English channels.
Breakfast was surprisingly good. Well run by two staff with plenty on offer. This ran from 7 - 10am.
In conclusion, stay here if you are on a short break to Bucharest, its ideally located and with clean comfortable rooms.
