" Relatively new hotel with friendly... "

Relatively new hotel with friendly staff.

We stayed on a half board basis - not recommended! The Half Board menu is dull and you soon work your way through it. We choose from the main menu and paid the difference. Although, even this choice was limited with variations of the same ingredients!

Restaurant was understaffed and staff would benefit from training how to serve customers. Just wiping the place mats between servings would be good!

Not many people stayed around the hotel. Probably because of insufficient sunbeds and only one parasol!

If you want a snack or coffee outside meal times, you need to use a vending machine!

On arrival, the floor of our room was covered in long hairs and dust. Obviously had not been brushed for some time. Housekeeping didn’t improve much during the visit.

Curtains would not meet in the middle and hanging of at one end. The rooms are nice enough but already are suffering from basic lack of attention and maintenance.

We booked a side sea view. We had to look hard to see it but did manage to spot the sea over the rooftops!

Opposite is a construction site. The noise was not too bad, providing you closed the double glazed patio door and put the room air conditioning unit on to stay cool.

Satellite TV was advertised as being available in the rooms. However, the only English speaking channels available are Sky News and CNN. Other channels are available in the bar area.

Volume on the TV is restricted to a very low level. We soon realised that this is because you can hear virtually everything that goes on in the rooms around you! People walking, opening and closing of draws, flushing toilets. etc.

The Reception staff also look after the bar, which means service can be slow.

We could go on but you probably get the picture!

Oh! By the way. Hire a car.

" We booked on a B&B basis as we wanted... "

We booked on a B&B basis as we wanted to sample the food in the local restaurants. We found two very good restaurants nearby but on the two occasions we ate in the Maritim hotel the food was equally as good. Our room was clean and adequate. We found the staff to be extremely helpful. We booked several trips through the hotel reception staff, who arranged for our breakfast to be ready for us prior to our early morning pick-ups, before the restaurant was open.

The continental breakfasts were ample, and we could eat as much as we wanted. A good variety of bread, cheeses, meats, fruits, scrambled eggs, sausages.

Although a large development was underway across the road, it didn’t affect us as we spent most of the day sightseeing and exploring the area.

The staff gave us a copy of the local bus timetable and for a couple of Euros we were able to walk across the road and catch the local bus to Albufeira, although they did not run too often throughout the day. The beach was a few minutes walk from the hotel, small but secluded.

A pleasant hotel, much quieter than if we had been in Albufeira itself. We will definitely go back again.

" When booking with Travelox whom we... "

When booking with Travelox whom we found out later to be a very disconcerting company.

One of the first things we asked was does it cater for small children, they said it was. It does not even have a children’s pool the, depths from 1 to 2 metres, the indoor pool is locked up and smelt, to get into the indoor pool area you had to get a key as it was locked also to turn the lights on as it was very dark even during the daytime.

You had to have a member of staff with you to go to the gymnasium, which was also locked. There are only 18 sunbeds for the whole pool area, which didn’t really matter as the hotel was always empty. The bar was always deserted, it seemed as if the reception staff who were very kind and considerate were not at reception, you couldn’t get a drink as they did the serving as well, it was a bit like Fawlty Towers.

You have to get a taxi into the town as it was too far to walk with 2 young children, the manager kindly offered to take us which we thought was rather nice, then promptly said at a cost of 10 euros.

I didn’t like the idea of vending machines scattered around the hotel to get drinks or a snack , the hotel was like no other holiday hotel I have ever stayed at, it was much to quiet, like a morgue.

The rooms to me seemed ok, nice bathroom but that’s about all.

I would not recommend it to anyone. On a par with other hotels I have stayed in I give it 2*. It was more like a motel for business people to stop overnight or very short stay

" Booked easily on line with... "

Booked easily on line with Alpha-Beds. Walking distance of Sao Rafael beach. Hotel Maritim is a very nice, clean, modern hotel, rooms and reception service excellent. There are three pools, one indoor two outdoor.

Stayed on bed and breakfast basis, disappointed with breakfast, same hot choice every day, and only one domestic toaster available for all. Limited poolside bar service, only open a couple of hours at lunch, vending machines available but soon empty.

Sited in quite area with a lot of development work going on nearby. Cost around 6 - 9 Euros for taxi to old town/strip. Would stay again but probably room only, as there’s a nice Portuguese restaurant nearby (Margem Sul).
