" sure i could find better! "

Although this was a nice hotel - apart frrom charging 4* for a hotel not worth more than a 3* - as previous reviewers have said you will need to get up early for a sunbed at the pool side - on the first night we were made to stayt in a room with broken air conditioner, although we did get an upgrade next day, we heard round the poolside from several oither previous people who were made to stay in room 315!!! so if u are offered it check that it works.
Worst points worth noting:
The showers are awful with no pressure especially for us ladies who need to shampoo and condition!
The balconys are practically shared with next door, so embarrassing and makes everyone less likey to benefit from a balcony!
The walls are so thin if you stay next to honeymooners as we did - you will hear every sound - not our thing!!
We booked a apartment for 4 adults but dissapointingly the second room is nothing ore than a sofa bed and rool out unit in the kitchen area, whilst the main room is straught of the main walkway - so expect your friends to walk through ya bedroom at all hours to use the bathroom!!
Rather rude reception staff - unwilling to help and very abrupt!
Good points making it worth perhaps a second visit:
The cleanliness
The friendly bar and resturant staff
The close proximity to the beach, strip and resturants - and very close to the best resturant ever - you really must give the 'sizzling stone' a go - steak and other meats and fish served on a sizzling stone (if u can bear to wear the bib!) an amazing experience and great value for money and wonderful friendly staff and great atmosphere!!!
Where not to eat: any resturant on the beach front unless you just won the ottery and dont mind food that really is not worth the money!!
All in all this was a great holiday and even if i dont stay at sme hotel will def stay again in Portugal!!!!

" spoilt by rowdy groups "

The hotel, staff and location are all spoilt by the allowance of groups to stay in what could be a wonderful family hotel. The hotel is nice an clean and located 5 mins from the main strip and 10 min walk from the quieter beach or 15 mins from lively beach. We enjoyed our stay but being a family it was awful being allocated a room next to a group of all i can describe as a group of rowdy dutch lads. They kept us awake for 4 nights in total by partying or setting off fire alarms. Hotel staff did there very best to restrain their behaviour but would do better not to allow groups in first place. The pool area is not adeqautly sized but staff do their best to stop sunbed hoggers putting towels on beds but if you try and get a bed after midday then your better going to the beach! All in all, a good holiday but spoilt by a group of idiots!!!

Advice: worth seeing parrot show in hotel.

Activities: slide & splash and Zoomarine worth a visit

" nice! "

Not worth a 4*, maybe 3*. Very clean, spacious but basic rooms. Pool area bit small, had to be down early to get lounger. Had food at lunch, not great at all, so ate out at pub down road most of time. Reception staff not that friendly, air con not worked first night,on 3rd floor, had to move to 1st, the man didnt offer to help. Woke most nites by rowdy germans banging. Very good location, 3mins from strip, 5-10 from beach.

Advice: Great central location, nice quiet break, lots of couples and families

Activities: Restaurants down by beach nice, Old town a must.

" holiday "

wouldn,t say this place deserves a 4 * rating more 3*, the pool was rowdy and from the previous reviews we chose this hotel on the couple / family atmosphere, it was more 18-30 maybe due to putting bums on seats during the recession, our air con was not working for two nights, we were then moved to another room which was tatty in decor but in a much quieter location. we spoke with a couple who had a baby and said they got disturbed by various rowdy parties mainly groups to be honest a little bit of benidorm type behaviour not what you pay for, as for albuferia the old town is great and the strip wasn,t bad for food either, the parrot show at the hotel is good but drinks rather pricey,

Advice: old town a must

Activities: speed boat to the caves was great

Good for: Beach

" family friendly "

We spent 10 nights here with our 2 children, hotel and staff lovely, Tony D and the parrot show worth a watch. Plenty of beds free around the pool and the beach only down the road, whilst the strip only a 5 minute walk up the road. Sunset on the strip a great restaurant to try.
Would we come back to this hotel, ofcourse x

" Forte Da Oura "

We have just returned for Forte da Oura hotel on Friday 17 October 08,stayed for 2 weeks, it was great, hotel was very clean, maid service was next to none, staff are so friendly and make you feel welcome. We had snacks at lunch time and they were very worth the money. Only down side were the beds they were so hard to sleep on but the room was very big, and we were able to watch tv in English, Please do something about the beds, other wise a brillant holiday and we are going back.

" We loved it !  "

I stayed at Forte da Oura from 5th Sept 2008 for 2 weeks with my boyfriend (both age 30) & we both absolutley loved it. The location to start with was excellent, out of the hotel turn right until you reach Wild & Co Pub, turn right and you are on 'the strip' dont let this expression put you off ! 'The strip' is not your usual Faliraki type it is just the main street of bars & restaurants, its not rowdy or full of drunk teenagers. We found some lovely places to eat up the strip including the chinese restaurant opposite Wild & Co up the side alley, also the mexican place about half way up is amazing. I would also recommend Sunset & the Sizzling Stone which are both on the right as you come out of the hotel. The hotel itself was great we requested a high floor and sea view & amazingly we got both ! The rooms are very spacious with a separate area for living room / kitchen and bedroom, in the kitchen we had a fridge, freezer, 2 ring hob & microwave. There is also a TV in the room & you get BBC1, BBC1, ITV1 and Sky News. Our room was cleaned every day at approx 3pm so we were never in the room at the time. We stayed in Room 326 which was quite near the balcony of the Receptiobn area so sometimes on an evening you could hear some noise coming from the bar, however the doors are so thick that once you close the main door and the bathroom door all the noise is blocked out. We found the Receoption staff to be very friendly & helpful & the Reception is manned 24 hours. We had a minor issue with out air con & they had someone there within about 20mins & he fixed it straight away. There is only 1 downside to this hotel & that is the pool area, which is very nice just not large enough. The sunbeds are very close to eachother & if you are not there before lunchtime you have no chance of getting a lounger !
The beach in Albufeira is lovely, however the charge you 8 euro per lounger per day & again they are very close together, so we walked onto the beach then left all the way along to the rocks where the sand is almost white & there are hardly any other people, also the water is much clearer, would highly reccommend trying this & you can get shade in the little coves. I would definately go back to Albuferia and definately stay in the Forte Da Oura again ! ps - the old town is lovely too, just get the little train at the top of the strip for 2 euro but everything is a lot more pricey through there !

" First time been to portugal really... "

First time been to portugal really enjoyed it. Stayed in alburfeira at Forte De Aura which is situated 2mins down the road from strip, would definately stay here again it was excellent. Cleaners came every day towels changed most days. Entertainment from 10pm most nights good laugh. Thought strip was going to be bad but rather enjoyed different bars and entertainment and you were'nt moidered by pr's. Happy hours most of night so drinks around 3-4 euros pint. Few british trying with time shares (why do they bother spoiling things) Beachs beautiful quite expensive for drinks and 15 euros for a sunbed (cheek)
Went on train to old town takes about 10 mins nice there, quite hilly in parts, narrow streets Good food.
Would go back again defo.

" We have just come back from this... "

We have just come back from this hotel, from what all i can describe is the best holiday ever. The Hotel was amazing and all i can say is the comments are all true. Our room was huge, the view wasnt great but who stays in when you have sun bathing to do. The pool is small, but we used to still get a place around 11am in the morning just would suggest if you are in a group to get up early to get a sun bed. The beach is only a small walk away same as the lovely strip of bars. Me and boyfriend are hoping to go back very soon!!!

" The hotel was amazing and we were... "

The hotel was amazing and we were very impressed with the standards of cleanliness. The staff were all very polite and helpful, even lending me wrapping paper and sellotape at the end of the trip to wrap some fragile luggage. The room we stayed in was huge, the kitchen diner, bedroom and bathroom were separated by doors which reduced noise/light coming into the bedroom at night. We didnt have any problem with mossies and used the curtain dividers to prevent these entering the room. Not sure how often the towels were changed but our rooms were cleaned and the beds made every day. The hotel is in an amazing location! Many reviews suggest it is at the top of a steep hill. This is misleading. The beach is a short walk down a small hill (not steep) and the hotel is ideally situated not far from the strip (five minute walk) but far enough so that it is not affected by noise. There is a small supermarket less than 5 mins walk to the left of the hotel. I would most certainly recommend this hotel as we did not have a single problem all week. The only thing i would say is that in high season (july-august) there may not be enough sunbeds to go around, although we were fine. There are alot of trips on offer in the area, including zoomarine, lisbon shopping, fiesa sand sculptures, quartiera market on weds, vilamoura marina and cape st. vincent. these were all very enjoyable and we were able to tour the whole length of the algarve and visit the capital in the space of a week. We would recommend a visit to a small travel shop on the opposite side of the road to the supermarket and to a left a bit. The woman there named Alison was very helpful, friendly and genuine - she knocked discounts off the price of tours for us, beating thomas cook by euros! Another good tip - visit the Club Praia de Oura website (this hotel is directly opposite Forte da Oura) and sign up for the email special offers. They sent us a ten euro voucher which we used towards food in this hotel.

" We stayed at Forte da Oura for 2... "

We stayed at Forte da Oura for 2 weeks in September 07 and had a fab time. We had stayed at Forte da Oura in sept 2005 also and that is the reason why we booked to go again this year. The apartments are very clean and our rooms were spacious and cleaned daily with new towels/bedding. The staff were always helpful and friendly.

Paulo who runs the hotel bar remembered us from 2005 and was great to see him again; the entertainment in the hotel bar was something else though. Mainly singers and Elvis is a must, you will never laugh so much in your life. We never had any problems getting a sunbed, there were a lot of sunbeds close together, but they are easily moved to make more room but can imagine that is not possible in the peak season.

The hotel is perfect location to the strip and beach but we preferred to get a taxi to the old town and old town beach as they are so much nicer. The old town has some amazing restaurants especially Bravissimo, good entertainment in The Rock Bar and Las Vegas Bar in the old town.

Two nights of our holiday we got a taxi to Vilamoura, it cost about £10 each way and was worth it, beautiful harbour, and lovely restaurants and the Irish bar was brill, great atmosphere.

We never heard any building work at all during our stay, we saw the site at the back of the hotel but never once heard any noise from it, it looked at the same stage it did in 2005.

Only downside was a disturbance going on in the room next door to ours but that was quickly resolved and the couple were 'evicted'.

Would definitely go back again to these apartments as they are perfectly located and well maintained.

" This is not a 4* hotel, at best it is... "

This is not a 4* hotel, at best it is a good 3*. I am writing this review as the majority on your site are old and I have just returned from my stay.

My hotel was booked through Travel Republic and on arrival at the hotel I was advised that the hotel was overbooked. I was advised this was because some rooms were not being allocated / were unavailable due to building work going on.

The hotel details do not mention any building works yet some of the rooms being booked are clearly not up to standard or habitable. From what I saw it looks like a new hotel and pool area is being built at the back of the Forte Da Oura, so it could take some time yet to complete!

When we eventually got allocated a room (we had to stay one night at another hotel), we were allocated a superior room with garden and sea views. We definitely had a garden view (well grass with a kids climbing frame in the middle anyway) but the sea view was more like a view of the hotels on the road to the beach as we were on the ground floor we didn't see much of a sea view!

The room was nice with a studio area including kitchen portioned off from the main bedroom however in my opinion this is not a superior room. I normally book 3* accommodation when booking holidays to Spain / Portugal as they are usually adequate for the time spent in the room.

In my opinion this hotel was no better than any other 3* hotels and not as good as some I have stayed at in the past and the pool area was a real let down. The pool and terrace area is tiny and the sunbeds are in rows very close together meaning you are caged in if all sunbeds are taken.

If you get a good price for a stay here it is worth booking as the location is good but don't get excited about the possibility of 4* luxury hotel and make sure you know exactly what room you are being allocated before your arrival.

This was our third time in Albufeira and once again we had a great holiday (with the exception of the overbooking at the hotel of course which took up best part of our first two days). There is loads to do and you can choose whether to be part of the hustle and bustle of the strip or enjoy a more relaxed atmosphere in other parts of the town.

" A great apartment/ hotel, the studio... "

A great apartment/ hotel, the studio we stayed in -231- was large and well equipped.

The towels were changed and rooms cleaned every day. Very friendly staff.

The beach and the strip were only a short walk away and the bus stop to Albufeira - 1 euro - was just outside the complex. If you turn left off the complex follow the road around the corner and you will find a supermarket and ticket office. Also just past the rounderbout you can get a bus to Villamora, and Faro.

Would definitely go to Forte de Oura again.

" What can you say about this... "

What can you say about this aparthotel? Well not too much if you want to keep this stunning little gem of a secret to yourself!

Stayed in late summer 2005 and had to slum in it in 5* in Tenerife for 2006, but thankfully got back in for 2007!

This complex is an ideal base for an Albufeira experience, just far enough from the noise but not too far from the action.

Facilities are superb and staff are friendly from minute 1 to the last minute of your holiday.

The building work was pointed out to us before our trip, but apprehensively we took the time to contact the hotel direct and the manager, Mr Vegas assured us there was no noise or disruption, and he was as good as his word!

Stayed in Room 311 and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone... so book it… and remember.... NOT A WORD TO ANYONE...it can be our secret!!

" What can I say about Forte Da Oura?... "

What can I say about Forte Da Oura? Great service, friendly staff, rooms cleaned every day. A holiday where the aparthotel cares about it's guests. The staff seemed to fade into the background, but if you needed assistance, help was always at hand.

Albufeira town has good entertainment with a large selection of restaurants. Prices great, get a good meal for 2 at countless places for less than 35 euros(£25). Large beer 1.5 euros at most places (£1.10). Even paying 2.5euros in aparthotel not extortionate.

Beaches accessible but only after a 5 minute walk but the trip is well worth it. On the whole an experience anyone should enjoy, would definitely return.
