Reception is very helpful and friendly and rooms where superb and of a very high quality which seems to be consistent with Accor Hotels.
Breakfast in bed was offered free of charge so we took up the offer and where not disappointed! Breakfast is EUR 15pp so is expensive but very good none-the-less.
Location wise, you are a few minutes from the chocolate factory and Olympic museum, a little further along, you will find the pier for Rhine pleasure cruise and about 10 minutes walk from the hotel, you will reach the vibrant city centre and Dom (Cathedral).
A visit to the Dom is highly recommended and is extremely impressive! To walk to the top of the spire, you are charged just EUR 2pp which is good.
In my opinion, Cologne is a great city with a good outdoor culture and is safe and very accessible. Trains are the best mode of transport and are very cheap and much more efficient then their UK peers.
Our flights where from Manchester with HLX/TUI who I have flown 6 times and encountered 1 hour + delays on all occasions so I would probably recommend a cheaper flight with Easyjet from Liverpool.
If you do not mind paying that little bit extra, go to the Novotel - it is certainly worth it!
