So me and my family went to roda in august 2010 firstly I lost my suitcase and cosmos did nothing about it. We then got given a family room instead of two separate rooms. The room we were given was tiny and we had no room at all because it was like a small child's room. The... more

Not quite as bad as some of the reviews, but the others on here are fairly accurate. To sum it up, the rude staff make it quite unpleasant. Yes, the pool is that dirty that you can't see the bottom of it, and yes the breakfasts are hideous (thank god I took my own tea and... more

The Pits
Myself and 5 other members of the family including a 9 month old baby have just returned from Corfu we stayed at the Silver Beach Hotel. The hotel looks grand from the outside but inside its the pits. I have a bigger back garden were they have sunbeds all cluttered to-gether the pool is small but clean. I didn't find the staff friendly at all everyday the receptionist saw us she asked us for money for a baby cot ...said she needed it ...the cot was in bits and damp the baby fell throught it several times. The rooms are dreadful broken sockets, no kettle, no nothing. The beds were as hard as the floor. The shower head hasn't been cleaned since it was put in and the shower itself was so small and the water was cold more often than hot.. The toilet has never been cleaned EVER... The towels were like something I would wash the floor with and you got 1 towel no more ours were not changed every day. The breakfast was a joke tinned fruit and chipped cups. The rooms are not cleaned on a Sunday so you have to use damp towels from the day before. The beds are not made either. I have done some traveling in my time and if the Silver Beach is 3* I want to know how and what makes it that rating. I did ask the manager she told me the tourist board rates it not them. The last straw was when we were leaving at 7:45 in the morning we couldn't have coffee or even hot water for the baby to make a bottle... This was by no means a cheap holiday and I would never recommend the Silver Beach Hotel to anyone. Do not be fooled by the brochure it is nothing like the it.
best hotel best resort
roda is a very nice place with many bars and resturans. silver beach is a beautifulhotel the rooms are quite modern and very clean and spacius, nice jacuzzi and very clean pool area. the stuff was very accomodating, friendly and helpfull. The breakfast was very nice for a 3 star hotel. highly recommend silver beach hotel and roda
friendly place
Myself and my husband have just returned from Roda, we stayed at the silver beach hotel. It is a very basic b&b, the rooms are standard but ours was clean. The staff at the hotel were very friendly and made us feel welcome. We stayed on a b&b basis and the breakfast is very very basic, not a lot of choice but at least the cups of tea tasted ok! We didn't eat in the evenings there as there is so much choice in the town and the hotel is a 2 minute walk (if that) from all the bars and restaurants. Roda is a quiet resort but friendly. We were surprised at how cheap it was to eat out every night. Just be prepared in advance for all the mosquitoes!!!
Staff Very Accomodating
Myself, husband and 6 yr old daughter arrived at the hotel and were put into room 28. I could have cried on entering, the room smelt so strongly of human excrement I felt sick, and we overlooked a backyard used by the owners which was just full of childrens toys, so we couldnt even escape to the balcony! We asked if we could be moved as the room was completely unsuitable for us let alone a young child. We were told that possibly we could be moved on the Friday, four days later and we were only there for a week. We asked again the following morning, and were shown a room on the top floor that was available. The whole floor smelt different, cleaner, the new room was still extremely basic but didnt smell and we overlooked the pool in the opposite hotel, which was a 100% improvement. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, and courteous and fell over themselves to accomodate you. This hotel is basic but it is very cheap so you cant expect 5* for 2* prices. The location is very good Roda town is quaint, with the beach 2 mins away, but watch out for the sea urchins, wear swimming shoes, our daughter trod on one and the spines break off in your feet. Sidari is very buzzy, and they have a greek night on Saturday the set menu is a bargain at 11 euros, and the entertainment fantastic, book a table for the best seats. Agni Bay is just beautiful, and brilliant for snorkling, but the restaurants there are a bit pricey, there are some lovely taverners on the way back just 10 mins drive up the road. Corfu is a beautiful island the people are very welcoming and generous, even the cats and dogs that roam around seem to live in harmony with each other.
lovely relaxing holiday
My husband and I have just returned from a lovely relaxing holiday. It was our first time in Roda and found it to be a lovely, friendly small village. The hotel was central to all amenities, lovely tavernas and shops. The beach was also close by. The staff were very friendly and helpful although I wouldn't recommend going half board as the food wasn't very appetising and it was very cheap to eat out. The hotel was clean and well kept. There was an extra charge for air conditioning, 5 euros a day, we didn't need it as the room was quite cool. The room was basic, bed, wardrobe and dressing table, typical of those in Greece. Overall a great place to eat and relax in the sun. I would definately return.
One night stand!
I read all the reviews on this hotel and thought "ok will give it a try, seems cheap and cheerful". I requested a top floor room as recommended by one reviewer and hoped for the best! We arrived at 2.30am. The room was at the front of the hotel on the middle floor. The noise from the bar across the road and the local boy racers on scooters put paid to any sleep as did the wooden "cot" like beds with "slab" mattresses. My husband is 6ft tall and his feet hung over by about 6 inches. The bathroom was minute and in dire need of re-decoration and updating. The towels supplied were hand towels and the sheets had cigarette burns in them. In the morning, before breakfast, we asked the girl on reception if we could move to a quieter room. We were told we would have to wait until the manager came on duty at midday. We went into breakfast........inedible........we went across the road to Tourist Info. The lady there was wonderful, took us to see other accomodation. Introduced us to Kostas, the owner of Ballas Apartments, we checked out of Silver Beach, checked into Ballas Apartments and had a fantastic holiday! Buyer beware....you get what you pay for but don't throw your money away on this place.
nice hotel shame about the grub!!
We have recently come home from a 2 week stay in Roda, Corfu. We have travelled around a fair bit all over the Med, and we have been to a few of the greek islands and found this to be one of the most beautiful. We stayed at the Silver Beach Hotel in Roda rating at a 3 star,we would like to know how they have come up with this rating! Don't go by the description of this Hotel in the Airtours brochure as it is wrong. Hotel and Swimming pool all fine just avoid eating there as the food was certainly not up to 3 star standards...to put it a nice way! But luckily there is plenty of restaurants and tavernas where you can have a good meal quite cheap. So basically our advice is just use it for a room only holiday and take advantage of the restaurants around you.
What a wonderful holiday
After a lovely holiday in Corfu last year we are now home from another super holiday having spent a week at the Silver Beach Hotel, Roda. The hotel itself is well run, staff are friendly and the rooms clean. You are made to feel welcome once through the doors. The swimming pool is spotlessly clean, tested and cleaned nightly, as are the sunbeds and pool area. We did not eat evening meals at the hotel except for one which was on a "Greek Evening", the food on this particular evening was most enjoyable and it proved to be one of the fun evenings of the holiday with visitors taking part in the dancing etc. Silver Beach is only a very short walk away from the beach, with shops and tavernas being along the same road. Ideal holiday for old and young alike. Can't wait to return in 2006. This hotel is an absolute must!
Wooooopa!
Me and my fiance have just returned back from Roda........which we loved. We went at the last minute for 1 week to meet friends who were already there. We had booked silver beach (B&B) over the phone and booked the flights serperate, this worked out to be the cheaper option. Baring in mind we had no idea what the hotel looked like or what we were going to be faced with, all i can say is that we had a great result, we were both very happy. Even though the accomodation was basic (which is normal for greece) we were more than happy with the how clean it was, it was spacious and airy. We had our beds made every day (apart from sunday) and we had clean towles every day, our sheets were changed twice in the week and the floors were cleaned daily too. We stayed on the top floor. I was told that this floor was newly built and that these rooms were nicer than the other floors, im still not sure if this is true so it might be worth asking when you book! Workers of the hotel were forever cleaning the grounds of the hotel and daily cleaned the surroundings and the inside of the pool. The only down side was not having a fridge in the room - this did not bother us, but i suppose if you had children or babies you would need it. Opposite the hotle there are a number of shops which sell ice cold drinks, milk cheese, bread etc so we just bought when we needed, the rooms stay cool so it never affected us (i suppose you could ask for a fridge and see what they say?) The security is good at the hotel, they have security through the night, and the lift is not in use between 2am and 7am for security reasons. You have a safe in your room which you do not have to pay for!! We tried the hotel breakfast once and because it was noting special we ate mostly at the 'Harbour bar' where they cooked a 'big breakfast' nothing compared to it and we ate there most mornings - sets you up for the day!!! We had no problems with the hotel apart from a misunderstanding with check out times, and the people seemed friendly enough although we didnt see them very much. The pool was small but nice, but we did not use it very much we went to the beach and the hotel 'theodoros' swimming pool, which do lovely food and have a great children's pool. The food in Roda is amazing and very cheap, theres no point going half board anywhere as is works out more. The best place to eat is a restaurant called Roda Park, we ate there a number of times. Also try out the chinese this was great too. Roda is a great place to go from the young to the old, we were with a group of people from babies to grandparetns and there is everything for somebody. There is no hussle and bussle in roda but you can find the lively bars if thats what you are looking for, we had our fun in the smileys bar (fotis is lovely) and the Pirates bar where we had a good few nights of Karaoky. Having walked around Roda every night there doesnt seem to be 'wow' looking hotels they are all much of a much and mostly apartments, so if i were to go back again i would not hesitate going back to silver beach, it was clean, friendly, and somewhere to lay your head at a cheap price...... Had a great week in roda and would return tomorrow if i could, a relaxed, happy, layed back family atmosphere......where nothing is ever a problem :o) P.s the taxi drivers are all crazy not just the one you get into!!!!
Basic!...
SILVER BEACH HOTEL, RODA. CORFU. Me and my fiance went on our first holiday abroad together June of this year. Weather was fantastic. The flight from B'ham was clear skies, really nice flight. We got to Corfu airport and the MANOS rep was there at hand, jumping to help us onto our coach quickly and promptly. Our transfer on the coach upto Roda took us around 2 hours 45minutes! longer than our flight!! The bus driver had some communication problems with a rep from another hotel!... so for that we all had to sit on a warm coach and wait!! When we finally got to our Resort of Roda we were a little uneased as it was our first holiday in Greece. The way the holiday had been sold to us it was described as "a part of Corfu to go where you'd expect alot of busy nightlife and alot of young couples our age"... on the coach there was 1 young couple about our age! We arrived at our resort, only to step off the bus onto the busiest, main road through Roda! Our first impressions from outside the gates about the hotel was, "wow, it looks lovely"... we walked up the drive/path way to the front of the hotel and all we could see around the pool were old people not really our age (maybe 50 years our age!) We got to reception and the receptionist was very helpful and very quick to sort us out into our room. The reception was very basic, a seating area with seats that looked more like they should be in a conservatory than a hotel! We took the lift up with the cases as we were up on the third floor. Again corridors very basic but you dont expect much else in the corridors! When we got into our room i was gutted!... i just wanted to turn back and go home! The rooms are VERY basic! We booked a twin room, we got 2 single beds. Divided by a small bed side cabinet! we had a dingey dressing table with one draw on it and a single walldrobe! The bathroom was the worst part of all... no luxury! The shower cubical, if you can call it a cubical!! was basically a shower base with a dirty white, well you cant even call it white, shower curtain! There was only one thing we chose not to complain about was the view from our balcony, which was poolside and we could see onto the main strip. As we were not exactly impressed with the hotel, we had the attitude "a holiday is what you make it" so we decided to have a walk around the town. It did pick our spirits up a tad to know there were pubs and cocktail bars to go and restaurants were the staff were so friendly and helpful. We went down to the hotel's restaurant (more like a canteen) to see what was available for tea, evening meals are supposed to be served 8pm til 10pm... we went down around 9pm if not before, and there was hardly any food left! and what was left didn't even look eadable to feed a dog!! We went on a 'Half Board' basis, we had just one evening meal there in the whole 2weeks of our stay!!! we could of saved £200 off our holiday going self catering if we'd of known the food was so bad!! Our welcome meeting as they call it was no help nor ornament to us really. All the MY TRAVEL rep wanted to do was get us to book us on excursions!! now i know excursions dont come cheap, but for 2 young people away for 2 weeks, 34 euros just to go and see a 7ft drag in a caberay show is rather extaushanate!!... We booked a cruise to Corfu town for our last week of the holiday and all the rep was bothered about was getting us to book more!!... WE ARE adults. WE CAN decide for ourselves! We were not impressed with the welcome meeting and the rep that was supposibly there to help us for 2 weeks!! As the holiday went on we started to enjoy ourselves a little more, doing our own thing. We hired a quad bike out for 3 days and we enjoyed ourselves so much being able to go to Sadari and Kassioppi when ever we wanted. To my partners amazement there is a McDonalds in Sadari!! We will stress that if you do hire a quad bike whilst out there, the Greeks are crazy drivers, and the roads are very whinding and can become slippy when wet. So we do stress that you watch yourselves and make sure you wear your helmets at all times whilst on them!! Our other complaints were about the sheets on our beds! They are supposed to be changed twice a week... try twice in our 2 weeks there!! The sheets at one point were that dirty and felt so grubby that we had to sleep with towels! Even the most noticable stains, like blood were totally ignored and one day i ended up with the sheet my fiance had bled on turned over and put onto my bed!! Our total view of the hotel was not good. Even though the staff were polite when ever they saw you, the cleanliness (even though the maids came round everyday apart from Sundays) and the rating of the hotel would get about a 1 out of 10! I'd advise anyone who's just looking for a basic room to stay in if they aren't going to be in there very long to stay at this hotel. But from experience for young couples like our age 20+, this hotel isn't a very good choice. Roda is a beautiful part of Corfu, just make sure you go in a group or at least know someone whilst your there, otherwise your stay isn't always that you imagine or want it to be! I'd like to advise you go to one pub/ bar in particular and that is "Mistral" which is on the main strip through Roda, the food in there is superb and the staff are so funny and friendly! Great atmosphere for couples, families with kids... it's just a great place! Costa will love you! N.B Costa is the small chubby greek bloke that says "scooby-dooby" alot!
