This was my first holiday to Greece and had no idea what to expect, and i have to say i was very pleased with the resort and the hotel. we stayed at the silver beach hotel for 2 weeks from 1st August 08 until the 15th.
As you would expect, the hotel was very basic, but the rooms were cleaned daily, except on sundays, with clean bedding once a week and towels every other day. There was however, sometimes a problem with the water in the taps and shower- sometimes there was lots, enough to have a nice shower and brush your teeth, other times (when everybody was comming back from the beach and pool) there was very little, only just enough to have a shower with, and it was (sometimes) cold. And occasionally, there was no water at all comming through the taps or shower. We were told that this was because they turn the water off at a certain time, and put it back on again in the morning, well, thats ok if you are not going anywhere, but if like us, you book a trip that picks you up from outside the hotel at 7:55 am, you really need a shower. We mentioned it to the staff (who were all very lovely and firendly) and the problem was sorted, but we still suffered with very little water at certain points of the day.
Air-con, a fridge and saftey deposit box are all extra, and are not included in the price you pay, but we were on the top floor and found that like most people on that floor, it was cool enough in the evenings and at night to do without air-con. We slept with the balcony doors open instead.
We went B&B, and i have to say, the breakfast was not really very appealing. we tried and stuck with it for a few most of the holiday, but did give in a go to "Maggies" for breakfast- lovely food and nice people. "Roxannes" was also nice, but maggies was best for breakfast.
The Hotel holds a Greek Night once every two weeks. It costs 10 euros each if you are B&B, and 5 euro each if you are half-board. It was very good, the food was lovely and the dancing was brilliant.
The hotel its self did not provide any form of entertainment other than the Greek night, and families with younger children found it a bit harder to fill their evenings. child-less people and young adults could take their pick of the many bars that Roda offers, "the Drunken Sailor" was very popular and like most bars, charged 3 euros per cocktail from 7pm till late. Most of the bars also have an Elvis impersonator once a week. Several of them also have internet connection and charge on average 1 euro for 15 mins. There is a tv with Sky in the Hotel lobby.
The pool at the hotel is open from 8am until 8pm and due to its position, catches the sun all day long. Sunbeds and umbrellas at the poolside arew free for guests, and like most of the pools in Roda, it is open to the public.
Over the two weeks, we ate in many of the restaurants, but the "Roda Park" was deffinatley our fav. "Nikos" next door was also very good, but in all the restaurants, they took their time when serving your food, which some people found very annoying. Also, some people "forgot" that each restaurant prepares each dish in a slightly different way.
The beach was lovely to walk along or sit on all day with a choice of places to hire sunbeds and umbrellas. The sea was lovely and so clear! there were lots of little fish and the water was quite shallow, perfect for younger children to have a paddle in. You could also take a ride on a banana boat at 12 euro per person(!!!), hire a pedalo with a slide for 12 euro, hire a boat, or buy a snorkle set from one of the many shops and have a swim. The water starts to heat up around 5 pm and is lovely for an evening paddle.
There are many trips avaliable through holiday reps, but we found it cheaper to book through one of the tour place in Roda- Travelspot Roda, where we got 3 day trips to Corfu Town (not that great), Paxos, Anti-paxos and the blue caves (very good) and The Yellow Submarine trip from Paleokastritsa (excellent) for 151 euros for 2 adults and 2 children (children 12 and under are half price on most trips) The yellow submarine trip is absolutley amazing and everyone, young or old will enjoy it. However, the trip to corfu town was not as good as we thought it would be. it was about 3 times hotter than Roda, and by the time we got back to the hotel, our legs and feet were black with dirt and grime, not a very enjoyable day.
Overall, the hotel and resort of Roda was excellent and well worth a visit, but would maybe be more suited to young people or people without children as there is not much entertainment for youngsters.

Silver Beach Hotel was an OK hotel, but with money spent on it,it could be brilliant! It has prime location and covers a vast area. The breakfast is poor, limited choice with the coffee pot being kept hot on top of the toaster! The maid service are very friendly, always smiling, the towels and sheets changed regularly, I always bring my own towels, so that didn't matter so much. The rooms are basic but plenty of shelves/hanging space. The fridge is a very good idea,3 euros a day, great for drinks, meat/cheese for lunchtime sandwiches. The shower is small, but it does what its there for, cold water during the day- yes but with the heat outside,it cools you down.I was glad I choose h/b,you are spoilt for choice for eating places in Roda.Try the Greek food, its a bit dearer, but its lovely. Enjoy the quiz nights especially Mistrals opposite, its great fun. Also a must is the bakery opposite the hotel, just forget calorie counting! The staff on the Hotel desk are also friendly and especially the gentleman who helped me when I couldn't get hold of -after 12 hours of trying-the transfer co.to collect us for our return flight.I left it with him and he got it sorted by 11.30pm for a 2am collection the next morning! Thank You!

Just return from silver beach which we loved .The hotel was much better than I expected
The rooms are clean and well presented - furnished as you would expect for a Greek hotel. Charges for the air-conditioning and fridge were €5 and €3 per day respectively, which did hit the holiday fund a little, but were badly needed in the heat. Staff are pleasant and helpful, and always happy to exchange travellers cheques for a reasonable fee (€1 per €50 cheque).
The pool has plenty of sun loungers and umbrelas
The resort itself is lovely - a long stretch of beach that is shallow for a considerable distance, which I think would be fantastic for those with children. Plenty of restaurants including English-run pubs where the less adventurous can get their traditional English meals and drinks, with entertainment in the evening and sports showing for those who can't miss the football/cricket/Formula One! A walk along the beach and up into the neighbouring resort of Acharavi is a must, as The Pumphouse is a lovely little restaurant offering superb food - including the best meatballs that we had on the island! The only restaurant I wouldn't recommend is Roxanne's on the beach - we were fooled by the nice location of the restaurant, as the food and service were well below par! I certainly wouldn't recommend anything with a fried egg in - unless your preference is a crucified one!
All in all, a great holiday, where we definitely got more than we expected given the price we paid!

Very clean, pleasent staff, tiled floors.
Room had air conditioning for 35 euros a week, storage for clothing, balcony, fridge for 15 euros for 5 days. Bathroom typical greek standard with shower. The rooms were cleaned every day except sunday, towels changed midweek.
The staff were very helpful and pleasant. Bar is inddor and outdoor. Pool is really nice with jacuzzi for cooling down.
Didnt eat at the hotel but would reccommend Drosia just 30 seconds away for traditional food.

Just got back from 2 weeks holiday at the Silver Beach in Roda. Having read the previous reports, was a little bit concerned about the quality of the hotel, and rightly so.
In our opinion this hotel should not be classed as a 3 star. We had room 38 which was on the ground floor at the rear of the hotel. We could not leave the balcony door open due to really strong sewage smells which came several times during the day.
Halfway through the 2 weeks the smell was so bad in the night it woke us up, and that was with the door closed. We asked the rep to see if we could change to a different room at the front of the hotel, but we had to wait till the changeover day which was Monday and see if they had any rooms available, or if anyone didn't turn up. Given the fact that the rep doesn't attend the hotel on Monday, it was Tuesday before we could attempt to get this sorted out and they said they had no rooms spare so we decided not to pursue this. However in the following days we noticed that all the rooms on the ground floor at the front of the hotel were empty and the staff were packing spare furniture into them as the hotel closes down for the winter mid October
The room was very small, looking at some of the others we feel it must have been the smallest. The sink would not hold any water in it as the plug didn't fit properly and the tap dripped constantly, by the end of the 2 weeks it would not turn off at all and you could physically pick the taps up from the sink!! The shower was too small, and the shower curtain stuck to you, which given its state wasn't very pleasant. The bath mat on the floor was full of mould and we put that out on the balcony and didn't use it at all.
Worst of all--- they turn the hot water off during the day and not on again till about 17.30, so if you come back from the beach during the day you cannot shower till then unless you use cold water.
The breakfast is diabolical, and the coffee is undrinkable, so we didn't eat there at all.
Roda is in fact beautiful and there are many bars and restaurants which you can go to. All were excellent and all were very reasonable, on average a meal for two with half litre of wine costs about 20 euros, and the meals are good sized. The people are very friendly and we would certainly go back there again but NOT to the Silver Beach.
All the staff there were very nice, but the hotel needs a really good refurb, and money spent on it. We have to praise the cleaners as they were always working and cleaned every day except Sunday and they did a good job.
There is a mosquito problem in Roda so make sure you take repellent or you'll get eaten alive, but the actual village is great, the food is lovely, the beach is beautiful, the people are friendly, just DONT STAY AT THE SILVER BEACH!!!!

We just got back from Roda, we stayed at the Silver Beach hotel.
Although the cleanliness is very good and the maid service too, we stay half board and the food was bland, that we ate out every day after the first few days.
The Greek night was a disaster night too, we paid 5 euro extra each and when it got to 9pm and we still had not eaten cause people who had already queue up had gone back for seconds, we got fed up and went and had something to eat at Maggie’s .
We did not get our money back even though our rep try. We are going back to Roda next may but won’t be staying at this hotel again.

Silver Beach is a really nice place to stay. We were on the bottom floor which was very clean and tidy thanks to our lovely cleaner who always had a smile! The staff overall in the hotel were very friendly and helpful. We did not eat in the restaurant so can't rate the food.
The pool was very busy and did not have an outdoor shower so we preferred to go to the lovely beach. I would recommend the hotel to friends and family as it is ideally located and next to everything.
The best bar in town is the Roda Crown where we got the biggest welcome from Christine and Albie. They run a fab bar and are really helpful on providing information on trips etc as we made the mistake of going with Cosmos and they had rubbish trips.
All in all we had a relaxing time consumed lovely food in the vast restaurants and lots of drink. Would definitely go back.

We stayed at the Silver Beach Hotel in July 2007. I would disagree with a lot of the comments written about the place that rate it 2/10 or 3/10.
The hotel itself is basic but it has a comfy bed, is clean and has views and a working bathroom. The staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. I would agree the only disappointing part of the hotel was the breakfast they need to do some work on that (make a suggestion in the suggestion box). The dining room is very basic, hardly the Ritz but if you don’t like it find somewhere else to eat and there are loads of nice places in Roda, all of which are about 5 minute walk away.
Roda itself is stunning and the beaches and people are great. I'm sure I won’t be the first to mention this but do go to the Roda Park for a meal, it’s much more than a restaurant, it’s an experience!
I would definitely recommend the Silver Beach Hotel, like many hotels or apartments in Greece its just best to remember that things are pretty basic so don’t have too high expectations!

We stayed at the Silver Beach Hotel for 1 week.
The good things are:
-Its fairly clean
-Staff are friendly
-nice pool
-whirlpool
-not far to the beach and Roda town
bad things are:
If you book a family room you get a double bed and a very squeaky, small and uncomfortable camp-bed.
The food (and we only had breakfast thank god) is very bad. It was disgusting. Dry bread, watery beans, green looking coffee that tasted disgusting, orange juice that was horrible etc. We tried lunch once that wasn't much better.
Towels were changed only once a week; broken and bad fitting toilet seat. It was very noisy in the mornings. A bad smell came from the sewage every now and again.
Well, actually it was only 6 nights and 7 days( that is counting the first day in which we had to sleep because we've been travelling through the night). Our tour operator promised us 7 nights and we only got 6. I would never book a holiday again with Onthebeach Holidays. The holiday rep. told us a load of #### when he turned up which was once in a week. He talked us into booking an excursion and after waiting for two hours we went back to the hotel and rang him up. He offered us the same trip again for the next day.
Bus transfer to and from the hotel was not included.

Having just returned from the Silver Beach in Roda I cannot reccomend the hotel enough. My family had a wonderfull holiday in a hotel that is very well placed in an excellent resort. Like all of Greece the hotel is quite basic but very clean and has excellent and friendly staff. The breakfast was more than the continental we expected and the Greek night at only 10 euros each is a must. If you are not happy with this hotel or resort you really should not be holidaying in Greece.
