We love this place!

I went with three of my girlfriends the first week of February and must say that it was one of my best vacations ever. Not only did I have excellent ladies to keep me company, but the place was total paradise. Relaxing and exotic. Our room (117) was right on the beach with a great patio and view. The entertainment was a wee bit hokey some nights, but if you have a couple of drinks with you you'll enjoy any of the shows. Learning to dance was great. We managed to close down the disco every night that we went and stay up until the wee hours of the morning dancing at the other bar on the dock. Some people have said that this place is really quiet and good for couples and eldery. That's true, but when we went there were families with kids and a lot of young and fun people who were there to party like us, so we made some great friends along the way. The food was alright. We have a vegetarian and a vegan in our entourage and everyone was able to find stuff that they liked. Great pizza. We only left the resort one day to go to Playa Pilar which was worth the "chicken ride". The only thing i regret not doing was going snorkelling. Word to the wise... you can probably save yourself $30 if you ask the guys who rent out the catamarans to take you snorkelling. They will take you for $10 where the tour company charges about $40. Tip lots for the best service (especially at the bar). As far as bugs go you'll get bug bites no matter what, but avoid going out at dusk cause the mosquitos are pretty bad.We plan to go back again for sure because we had such an amazing time. The girls I went with and I are in a band, and the entertainment director even allowed us to perform on the mainstage one night. Everything I expected

Villa Cojimar was exactly what we expected. We paid $869.00 tax included and I don't think you should pay much more if you go. The resort is about 25 years old and is kept very clean( it does need some sprussing up though). The people are very friendly and there was a doctor on site available 24 hrs. The beach was clean, beautiful and had enough room for everyone. The shows at night were O.K and the disco played mostly techno music. The drinks were always available and the food was O.K. If it is possible ask for room #71 it's on the beach and accessable to mostly everything. All in all we got what we paid for and probably even a little more. I would recommend Villa Cojimar as a place thats good value for the money, clean and the people are great. I will return if I don't find another good deal somewhere else.
Paradise

Wow. If you are looking for a holiday of pure relaxation and surreal beauty then come here. I think this was the most exotic place I have been so far in my life. I couldnt fault the accommodation. I had a two bed chalet right on the beach! My french doors opened up onto sand. How gorgeous! The resort itself was amazing. Set in well kept grounds with very hospitable gardeners and staff alike. The restaurant was a bit repetative but you could never say the food was rough. It was all fresh fish, fresh fruit everything fresh! They grilled your food when you asked for it (not leaving it lying on a slab for the day!) The entertainment team were mediocre. Very talented, but could have done with spicing their shows up a bit. Anyway, cant talk all day so to sum it up. For paradise and pleasure which you cant measure, for relaxation and quiet and for your own sanity you must visit this island once in your life. P.s. Watch out for the crabs - they're massive and manage to get into your room if your on the beach! I woke up to one beside my bed in the middle of the night! MAD! Enjoy it here. I know you will.

I went alone at this resort at the end of January to the beginning of February in 2003. Being in my late 20's, I like to do a lot of activities & I enjoy a good party ... not at this resort ! It's more for the quiet couple in their 40's - 50's. There's almost nobody at the disco at night , few people play volleyball ( I played only twice in 2 weeks !) and the day activities are redundant. For me, it was a change of pace but I went with the flow , found new friends and still enjoyed myself ! I don't know if it was the timing but instead of everyone's opinion, I hated the beach, it was unbelievably shallow, was not large and had a lot of seaweed and oursins. For a great beach, go to playa Pilar for 5 US. The staff was incredible at the hotel : from the maids to the bar staff to the reception and especially the animation (except Yanko the show-off, what a jerk). The shows were incredible especially the dancing ones (Luis and Marieleis are the best). They had a few contest here and there which made it a great blend. The food was OK (it's Cuba) but don't go the Cuban restaurant (nasty and the waiter very rude). The pool was great. The rooms were OK (thin walls) but the bathroom was big ! Go to this place if you liked a big resort that is quiet and which you don't expect a lot (it's really a 3 star) If you're more a pool than a beach person and you like the shows at night, Cojimar is your place. Oh yeah, don't go in January, it winds like hell !!!

Peace and tranquility achieved

We went to Villa Cojimar in early November and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were quite anxious when we booked the resort as there was very little information available, but discovered soon after arriving that we had worried for nothing. The hotel is in the throes of some renovation work, and also some landscaping to the grounds, but these did not affect us one bit. It was interesting to see how the locals managed to build a complete water area, fill it and plant it all in the course of a few days. In a couple of years it will be a remarkable and beautiful area for visitors to admire. The beach was very nice, not of great depth from land to sea, but nonetheless absolutely beautiful and plenty of room to sunbath. The local employess "hoovered" it daily to make it as pleasant as possible for the residents. The waters were exactly like the brochure pictures, clear, blue, and very sandy underfoot, apart from the odd crab! Ossie, the boathouse man was a real treasure, he could not be more pleasant if he tried. He even managed to get THIS 47 year old woman windsurfing, albeit rather badly, which, considering I had never tried it before, was a major challenge, but if you are going to get wet, best to do it in beautiful warm crystal clear waters than the sea of the south coast of England, where it barely gets warm enough for a big-toe!! The staff on the resort were some of the most friendly we have ever come across, and would do pretty much anything to make your stay more comfortable and enjoyable. The guys in the bars were very friendly, and after a couple of days knew what to get you to drink before you actually got there! They would see you approaching and be getting it ready, how's that for service?? Rooms were very basic, but nonetheless pleasant and comfortable with plenty of hot water almost all of the time. Air conditioning units were very effective, though a tad noisy at night if you are, like me, a light sleeper. The maid service was absolutely excellent, with those extra little touches that made you really appreciate their efforts. Our maid Maria was, beyond doubt, a true sculptress with bath linen, and we looked forward to seeing what she had conjured up on the beds and in the bathroom each day. We had booked this holiday wanting a resort where we could have some peace and quiet, and totally relax. This we achieved, although it did start getting quite busy towards the end of our stay in mid-November. If you want a real "in your face" holiday, then this is not the place for you, but if you want to get away from it all and just chill, then Villa Cojimar is a brilliant choice. We have never yet been on a two week holiday and wanted to extend it, but this time we would have had we been able. One day we will go back there, and hopefully by then all of the renovations etc will be completed, and the gardens will be in full splendour. We had no real complaints whatsoever, except for one small thing... well, millions of them in fact, and that was the mosquitos. If you could eliminate them, it would have achieved a 100% mark, but we really cannot hold the staff at Villa Cojimar responsible for nature, now can we!!!
Loved it!

My partner and I have just returned from two weeks at Villa Cojimar and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It was our first visit to Cuba and we will certainly return. The staff at Villa Cojimar are helpful and friendly and the rooms are clean and comfortable; we were lucky enough to have one positioned just yards from the beach and beautiful turquoise waters. We liked the layout of the hotel; the rooms are well spread out and the fact they are no higher than one story make a refreshing change from other destinations and is in keeping the the unspoilt beauty of Cayo Guillermo. The only downside we encountered was the food on the first week. There were lots of dishes but many were unappetising e.g. Cheese soup, however the second week was much improved and we were able enjoy mealtimes a lot more! One of the highlights of our holiday was our visit to Havana. If you are going to Cuba you MUST visit this city! Our tour operator offered both a day and a two day excursion. We went for the overnight option and would recommend it as we ( and the rest of our group) really enjoyed it. On the flight back to the Cayos we spoke to some Havana 'day trippers' who hadn't had such a great experience as they felt it had all been a bit rushed, particularly in the heat. Overall we found Cuba an excellent destination, and if you're looking for somewhere to bliss out in a friendly and stunning (the view from our room was exceptional) location then Villa Cojimar could well be for you!
Loved the jungle tour

On 1 October 2003 myself and my wife flew out to the Hotel Villa Cojimar in Cuba.On our honeymoon. What a lovely place this is. firstly theres lots of choice in the restaurant, and if your into excursions, then there is plenty to do. i.e. The jungle tour,Catamaran,Colourful Cuba,Dolphins Tour, and Havana Day are a MUST. Also playa pilar beach is the nicest beach in cuba. I have just arrived back in England and myself and my wife just love the country and will certainly be going back next year. The hotel entertainment is excellent. hope this has helped. nigella

get away from it all
from A TripAdvisor Member
What a place , if you want to get away from it all and get so laid back you are horizontal, this is the place for you. we had two weeks in Sept 03 the food was good not top notch, but good. The rooms were fine with the odd insect but this is Cuba not Clacton-on-sea . the maids were very good as were all the staff. We had no complaints, and would be more than happy to go back. The cuban's dont have a lot but the have a pride in what the do have that is second to none, they are still in the early stages of developing the tourist industry, and are trying very hard to get it right, so if you do go cut them some slack. have a good time like we did. hats off to Cuba, & all the staff at villa cojimar thanks for a wonderful holiday .
Just returned from a two week holiday at this hotel. we were greeted by friendly and helpful staff. The accomadation was in the new blocks of cabins and were very comfortable. Bedding and towels were changed each day. The food was very good but was positioned in the wronge... more
