This has been my best holiday ever....

This has been my best holiday ever. The hotel was fantastic, the staff are brilliant especially the entertainment staff. The food great there is something there for everyone. My 7 year old didn’t want to come home and to be honest myself and my husband didn’t want to. The complex is very clean and always being cleaned. The rooms are great and have plenty of room. You also do not need to get up early for a sunbed, there is plenty around!!! I am already looking into booking for next year!

Absolutely brilliant holiday, the hotel was immaculate and the staff could not do enough to help you! I would definitely recommend the snorkelling outside the hotel you see some amazing fish, but watch out for the rocks!
The room was fantastic and all areas were really clean, the staff never seemed to stop cleaning up! The food was fabulous with a great variety so be prepared to put on some weight!
Overall an amazing holiday and I would definitely return to the Riu Cancun (Although the Riu Palace Las Americas next door looked just as nice!).

The hotel, staff and all of the pools are brilliant, however, the unfortunate problem that I had was the amount of American teenagers there on holiday staying at the Hotel Riu Cancun. They were there to enjoy themselves like everyone else, but if you want a quiet relaxing holiday, this is not the place to go. It may have been the time of year or that I am a party pooper, but watching them at the bar every night making fools of themselves by drinking litres of tequila and then throwing glasses off their balconies into the swimming pool and running up and down the corridors, does not seem to be my kind of fun. I must stress that the hotel and staff are top quality as well as the food, but be aware of the American school holidays or as they call it the Spring Break.

May 2004, Mrs D A Dobson

: : Viral holiday from Hell
: My mother stayed at the Riu Cancun, whilst she said that the hotel was marvellous the hygiene standards need to be raised. Whilst at the Riu she caught a viral infection, consequently, she was extremely ill and was unable to leave her room. She reported it to the staff in the hotel who were very apologetic, the resort rep at the time was Natalie who was also aware of her symptoms (as she had the bug a few weeks earlier she told my mother).
My mother lost two stone in weight on her dream holiday, was delayed for 26 hours and came back to the UK fighting for her life as she had caught the bug from eating contaminated food whilst staying at the Riu Cancun. She was admitted to hospital immediately upon her return to the UK. Put in isolation for a week, the micro-biologist at the hospital said that it was a very aggressive form of food poisoning which eats away the lining of your stomach and it is called SHIGELLA FLEXNIR my mother is still on medication to this day.
THE BAD NEWS IS that Thomson Holidays (Far Away Shores) and AXA Insurance are not prepared to offer any form of compensation as a result.
My advice is do not book a holiday with Thomson’s and holiday insurance Axa because they are not worth the paper they are written on.

The hotel was absolutely fantastic, the service of the staff was friendly and efficient and the hotel was always immaculate!
The pools were good and always clean and there was plenty of entertainment in these areas throughout the day!
We had our room upgraded to a suite, which had the most fantastic view over the Caribbean Sea.
There were 3 restaurants which all had an enormous amount of variety! The Brazilian restaurant was delicious, if you could get through the five different meats! The spa services were good as was the evening entertainment, especially the Mexican night.
The beach was clean and tidy and the sea was lovely and warm. The scuba diving was fantastic, we used the dive centre at the hotel - Scuba Caribe, and this is a must if you haven’t done it before! You will be amazed.
I can’t wait to get back to Cancun!

this hotel has the most fantastic views over the ocean that it will leave you breathless. the hotel is right in the hotel core zone so you are in with the action . the rooms are very clean as is the entire hotel.
The down side to this hotel is that it is incredibly noisy. the problem is people coming in at all times of the day and night shouting in the corridors in a drunken state. the pool area is noisy due to mainly Americans. they arrive everyday in a party mood. by the time they calm down a bit another lot has arrived. when we were there was construction work at the side of the hotel, this was not a problem as it was quieter than the main pool area .
the hotel cuts the sun out from the pool and the beech by about 2-2.30pm,but there is a rooftop terrace that not a lot of people new about. shhhhhhhh. lol. also the pools were really cold but it was January. the sea has concrete slabs in it to try and reclaim the beech. this can be a problem as the sea can throw you into them and trust me when I say it hurts!
The food was good at the buffet restaurant, but the Brazilian was not worth it. they come around with different meat on a sewer, but by the time that you get all your food your vegetables are cold and you are that full from picking you leave most of it.
on the hole it was a good hotel and I would go back, however we stayed at the Iberostar Tucan in July, this hotel knocked spots of the Riu, so my advice would be to check out an Iberostar.
