Aparthotel Esmeraldas

This hotel was OK nothing brilliant but not too bad. Cleanliness was excellent, with well equiped kitchen Used Buffet style restaurant once newly refurbished with adequate food. Staff were pleasant and helpful. Down sides - most uncomfortable beds in the world, and location good in that it is only 10 mins walk to Tossa poor in that we were almost sat on street when on balcony.

We booked the aparthotel based on Tripadvisor reviews, but were confused by the two different spellings for the same property which appeared to have a very good rate (without the 's') but mediocre with the 's' at the end. It should be a with the 's' according to the sign above the front door. Inside, the hotel has a split personality too. The public areas are very stylishly updated and well kept. The actual rooms themselves appeared to have missed out on the renovation and did look tired/smell a bit stale. However, they were kept spotlessly clean (maid service every other day) and everything worked as intended, even the patio door locked, which is more than can be said for several other hotels we have stayed at recently. The only other grip, is the small pool and limited sunbathing areas, this wouldn't normally be so bad but Tossa's beaches is fine shingle, something our toddler didn't take to. The hotels 'entertainment team' (Fernando by himself) worked tireless to kept the kids busy but not much for adults. But Tossa itself was sufficiently varied/interesting to keep us entertained for the week. One the whole, this hotel offers excellent value, we booked the room seperately, from a well known package operator, much more cheaper than from the usual hotel only websites. For the money, it offers a good base for an enjoyable stay.

Stayed in the esmeraldas for 2 weeks 28th july to 11th aug. Excellent value for money.Kids absolutely loved it.All the hotel staff wonderful.Fernando the entertainment guy was fabulous. The Thomsons rep was pretty useless she just wanted to sell trips!! Tossa is a lovely place,excellent,safe resort for families. I would recommend the esmeraldas without any hesitation.You get what you pay for,cheap ,clean accomodation.

Having recently returned from Tossa, I would like to say how enjoyable the holiday was. I was somewhat disgruntled when the wife told me she had booked me into a self catering hotel.......I thought I might have to 'slum it' ......My expectations were somewhat low, however the accomodation surpassed it's 2 star rating. The accomodation, whilst it is basic, it is clean with friendly staff. The reception and public areas, including the restaurant were always clean & tidy. The food we had was acceptable, clean and presentable The accomodation is ideal for the beach, shops and restaurants. It is aimed at couples and families..........not really suited for partygoers......... Would I go again? Yes, Would I recommend it? Yes Give it a go, not much to lose, you'll be pleasantly surprised..........and by the way.........the town of Tasse de Mar is very pretty..........

I stayed at these apartments on a last minute, allocation on arrival break at the end of June - booked Friday, flew Saturday. I have to say I completely panicked at the boarding gate - I have never seen so many tracksuits, baseball caps and gold jewellery in one place at one time. There was a collective sigh of relief when the chavs were rounded up and sent on a bus in the direction of Lloret de Mar. Having never stayed on a Spanish Costa before, I was quite surprised at how built up the towns were, and how small many of the hotels were. The resort of Tossa de Mar is really pretty, if a little quieter than expected. These apartments are a 5 minute walk from the beach and town centre, with a supermarket literally around the corner. The pool is quite small, but has lots of sun loungers and chairs. The management make a point of asking people not to reserve places, which makes for a really chilled out atmosphere. We had a studio apartment for 2, which was basic but clean and had everything we needed. Air con at no additional charge was a pleasant surprise, especially outside of peak season. Maids came in every day except Sunday, towels were changed every other day and linen changed twice weekly. I guess you get what you pay for, but I did miss not having clean towels each morning. The daytime entertainments team tried really hard, but didn't managed to prise either of us from our sun loungers or i-pods! From the glimpses I saw going to and from the bar, the evening entertainment was either audience participation, or some sort of magic / animal show. Great if this is your thing - but there are lots of tables and chairs outside if not. All entertainment / music finished at midnight, so no problems with noise and unlikely to attract nocturnal party animals. Our week was about getting a tan and relaxing, so I can't say we made the most of the resort. I would strongly recommend taking the 'train' along all the back streets - for 3 euros, you get to see a lot of the the town, and can get on and off as often as you like. There are a range of boat trips which can be booked from the booths on the beach, as well as a water taxi, which stops off at different resorts along the coach - a return 2 hour sail to Blanes cost us 13 euros each, really good value. There are a whole range of restaurants in the town and along the seafront - everywhere seems to serve pizza, for some reason. We did eat in the hotel one night & although I was sceptical at first, it was excellent value. For 9 euros, you could eat as much as you wanted from a range of salads, soups, fish, chicken, pork, pasta, vegetables. The dessert selection included gateaux, ice cream, fruit, yoghurt and jelly. Staff in the hotel were really helpful and spoke excellent English. This was not the case throughout the resort though, but most restaurants had menus in English, French, German and Italian. I would definitely recommend the Esmereldas to anyone wanting good value accommodation as a base to explore the Costa Brava.

Arrived at the hotel on 17th June 2007 for a 10 day stay. Didnt have much expectations as the price we paid was very cheap indeed. The hotel itself was alot better than i was expecting after the money i paid. There was always sunbeds around the pool, Clean room.etc. Although we was self catering so cant comment on the food although the snacks was fine. The view from our balcony wasnt too good even though it was on the pool side but that didnt bother me too much. The entertainment was abit hit and miss never the less if it doesnt take your fancy just a short stroll away from loads of other bars. The bars in Tossa de Mar do tend to be rather quiet. Although there are a few that place loud music and there is 1 or 2 nightclubs although the one i visited only had 4 people in it. I would reccomend this hotel to Couples/Couples with kids. There was a huge variety of ages in the hotel but was all couples so no drunken guys in groups etc. All in all not bad hotel at all. Would return there for sure

Took a last minute break in Oct'06 with 2 teenage daughters, husband stayed at home. However, we had a great time, staff were helpful and we felt quite safe. Very clean and spacious apartment. Bar etc very modern. Short walk to shops and beach. Entertainment every night so did not have to venture out. Would go back again.

Just returned from these apartments and what can I say! Spacious apartments, plenty of storage space, the whole complex was spotlessly clean, especially around the pool area. Daytime entertainment very good as was evening entertainment. Fernando, the entertainer, is fantastic, a real happy, genuine and helpful guy who puts his all into everything he does. All of the staff at these apartments are so helpful and friendly and speak excellent English. Would definitely return, they deserve more than their 2* Rating in my opinion.

When we got there our room smelt of stale smoke and bathroom was dirty (old ear bud on floor). The view was poor and the food is very basic (flys buzzing round it). We would not go back! Worst hotel we have ever stayed in.

this is a 2 star hotel, very basic. We stayed in a studio for 3 people, and there is only just enough room for the 3 of us. the balcony is small and the view is terrible, overlooking private run down apartments. The pool is very small, I wouldnt like to be there in the height of summer. There is no room to cook in the kitchen, there is no work surfaces to prepare anything on. However, it is clean. The entertainment is awful and the reception are smelt of smoke. I would not visit this hotel again
