Perfect Holiday
from Bellamina
We spent a fantastic week in Skiathos at the end of Aug/ beginning of September. If you are staying at the Myrtia and booked your transfer, you find that you are separated from your bags on arrival at Skiathos airport and they are transported separately to Myrtia (because the track to the apartments is too narrow for the bus). You can either get on the bus or take a cab if you don't want to listen to the tiresome patter of your holiday rep. Your luggage turns up an hour or so after you do. The apartments are very pleasant, clean and basic. We didn't cook at all, so can't really comment on the cooking facilities. You can pay for air conditioning if you require it. The staff are friendly and there is a good sized swimming pool and bar/ restaurant area. As other reviews have mentioned, there is a 5 min walk along a track to reach the main road-- it does get very dark at night. We had no mosquito problems at all. There are some nice tavernas along the Koukounaries road but there is so much more to choose from in Skiathos Town. The bus service is cheap and regular, and stops at all the main hotels and beaches between Koukounaries and Skiathos Town, but it does get very busy-- we were lucky in that respect because Myrtia is near where the bus starts. It's pot-luck as far as choosing a restaurant goes-- there are so many. But for a really nice meal we recommend Scuna. You eat on a pretty deck with the fish swimming beneath you. Mainly Italian-influenced food but also regular Greek dishes. On the Saturday night of our stay we went to the Windmill. My partner had booked the 'Honeymoon Table', which is so fantastic it will probably make you want to cry when you see the view. We didn't find it overpriced. The food is not traditional Greek-- I had duck and my partner had beef wellington. The service was great and it was very reasonable considering we had a bottle of champagne (we got engaged that night!). We will definitely return to Skiathos!

I went to Myrtia with my partner and we had a fantastic time which is largely due to the great atmosphere that Achilles, Romana, Lorenzo and all the other staff have created. We had a studio apartment which was a bit basic and when, because I have no doubt we will, return we'll opt for a bigger apartment. The cooking facilities are very limited, 2 hobs and no oven, so you need to budget for eating out a lot, however, the food at the apartments was the best that we found in Koukanaries. Skiathos Town has a number of restaurants and bars but we didn't really take advantage of this as we enjoyed being at the apartments so much. The pool at the apartments is lovely and there is also a tennis court where you can try to beat Achilles or Lorenzo to a game. The beaches are close (10-15 mins walk max.) and there is a good choice if you don't mind walking a bit. There isn't a whole lot to do on the island so it is ideal if you just want somewhere to relax and unwind.
What a place!!!!!!!

Just returned from the most amazing 2 weeks i've ever had. Beleive me when i tell you that Achilles, Romona, Lorenzo, Katalina and the rest of the Myrtia crew are without a doubt the most adorable, fun loving people i have ever had the pleasure to meet. I cannot fault a single thing about the place although i'm tempted to just in case everyone starts to book there and i can't get a room ever again. Myrtia is such an idilic setting no matter what kind off holiday your looking for.. We spent most night drinking with Lorenzo till the early hours then lounged by the pool all day but there is plenty to do and a dozen or so beaches within walking distance, so don't worry too much about it being off the beaten track. Yeah the cooking facilities are basic , but not any different to everwhere else i've stayed in Skiathos and who really wants to cook when you can pop down to the restaurant and be give a huge plate full of fresh mussels ( cooked anyway you like ) followed by the freshest sea bream i've ever tasted... And the sunday night BBQ...OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm not gonna go on about it as it will spoil the surprise but a word of warning... don't bother having breakfast or lunch on Sundays. What more can i say??? Basically Thankyou from the bottom of my heart to Myrtia and all who hail from there, we will return time and time again .

Just returned from our holiday at the Myrtia. On the whole had a wonderful time. Alex, Myrtia, Achilles and Ramona are all as friendly and helpful as everyone has said (just don't ask the barman to make you a coffee or he might never talk to you again). The apartments themselves are located off the main road of Koukounaries through pine woodland which is a picturesque walk but a fair trek in the heat. The grounds of the apartments are very green and beautifully landscaped. The apartments themselves are very clean and well looked after. The only gripe we had was that the only cooking facilities they had were two rings on a hob and a toaster so if your expecting to go self catering this could prove a little tiresome as all of the local supermarkets only tend to stock frozen stuff that needs to go in the oven. Eating out in the poolside taverna is very nice and has a great atmosphere (Sunday night BBQ a must! - nice moves Achilles). Otherwise for eating elsewhere found it was best to skip Koukounaries and hop straight on the bus to Skiathos town; Scuna at the start of the club strip did delicious italian and greek dishes at a very reasonable price set on a terrace right by the port, Maria's pizza tucked away in the back streets of the old port does amazing home made pasta and pizza (a very special place) and of course the windmill as everyone else has already said does some fantastic dishes although is a lot more expensive.

From the minute the coach drops you off at the apartments and you see the welcoming faces of Ramona, Achilles, Myrto and Alex (the hosts of the holiday) you know you have arrived at somewhere special! At the end of a country lane (torches are handy or just be guided by the moonlight) is an oasis of woodland dotted with a few apartments. All that can be heard is the sound of crickets and the laughter of people enjoying themselves. Beautiful gardens surround the apartments and the pool area which is big, clean and has a wonderful bar area serving excellent food at breakfast, lunch and evening. What a pleasure not to have to get up early in the morning to get a sunlounger - at any time of morning or afternoon, they are always available! The apartments themselves are basic, but cleaned every day and everything is in working order. Safety deposit boxes can be hired for a minimal charge, there's a kettle, toaster, fridge and air-conditioning. Even if you have an apartment near the pool/bar area, there is no noise at night so you sleep like a baby!! The local Koukounaries beach is accessed down the country lane, turn right. Across the road is a gate which leads you through a nature reserve with a gorgeous lake. Ten minutes and you're on the magnificent, if busy, beach (voted 3rd best in the world!!). Or even better, if you like a beach with lovely views all to yourself, walk through the woods for about half hour and there is the Mandraki and Elias beaches - well worth the walk which is all under the cool cover of trees. There are a number of bars and restaurants in Koukounaries and a couple supermarkets selling all your necessities. Or you can catch the bus into Skiathos town for 1.40 euros (though be prepared to stand in peak times). Here there is a wealth of bars, restaurants and shops - we loved Marias Pizza, a small bistro restaurant up a little alley - very quaint - and you could watch them cook your food. If you go to the Windmill restaurant which sits high above the town with fantastic 360 degrees views, please remember to take your credit card with you (but well worth it!) If you're reading this Ramona, Achilles, Myrto, Alex - thank you for the perfect holiday! I've just been to get the brochure to book up for next year, or if I can, maybe find a week free in the next couple of weeks. Whichever, I know this is where I will go back to ... my slice of heaven!!

friendly family run, clean apartments, great pool area, a walk to the resourt centre, longer to get to the beach but well worth it, well positioned off the road, the track seems to get shorter and lighter the longer you are there. could find no faults...even lack of hot water for a couple of evenings could not put us off...great fun in the bar with Romana and Achilles....excellent food....only 1euro 40 cents by bus into Skiathos town which should not be missed... about 1/2 hr...but plenty of local bars and restaurants if this sounds too tiring... we want to go back!!

I have just returned from two weeks at the Myrtia Hotel with my family and friends. The owners and staff made the holiday. They are all extremely friendly, helpful and great fun. You couldn't wish for a better holiday. We all relaxed immediately. It was great having all the amenities on one level as we were always able to keep the children (8 children ranging from ages 10 - 13) in our sights. The staff made them welcome and would often be found playing table tennis with them. The grounds are very pretty and clean. The rooms are basic but kept very clean. The pool is wonderful and the restaurant is the best. We ate their several times and every meal was a delight. Our group ranged from 16 - 21 people and there was never a problem with being seated together. Be prepared to sample the Ouzo! The only slight problem we experienced was getting the local bus to take us in to town of an evening. From around 6-8pm the buses would be packed with everyone coming back from Banana beach and it was impossible to get on. We also experienced problems getting the bus to Banana Beach (to feed the fish) around 5pm as the bus drivers thought we were trying to jump the beach queue to go into Town. The only way to get taxis is for the hotel to call them. The beaches are all lovely. Skiathos is a wonderful island and I cannot wait to return.

You can't go wrong with the Myrtia.. whether young or old, family or not, the Myrtia caters for all. This was the 2nd year we had stayed and made a point this year of booking the same resort/apartment, and it didn't let us down for the 2nd year running. Even the owners remembered us on our arrival.. now that adds a certain something in my opinion and proves your custom is very much valued and appreciated by the owners. The rooms are very basic but 'adequeately basic'. Everyhting works as is should. Nothing's broken or fallen off/missing fixtures and fittings-wise, and you get 24 hour hot water, which is very rare. Not a noisy site at all... which is fitting on Skiathos because it's not quite a commercialised place as most Greek resorts. There are two marvellous supermakets nearby. The Stamelos bar seems to be open almost 24/7 and highly recommended, very friendly place. The Chinese restaurant is excellent too.. and they do takeaway. Try the spring rolls YUMM!
Myrtia is the best holiday I have ever been on. The rooms are cleaned everyday, there is a safe and air conditioning unit you can buy for a very good price at reception. The pool was big and right next to the bar. Sunbeds are not limited, but in the rare occasion there is... more
