This hotel is in serious need of upgrading upon our arrival the shower was broken, the loo constantly flushing, the hairdryer was broken, the tiles were mouldy and the electricity had blown a fuse!! Not a good start, it did not get better, the jacuzzi pool had no jets and the steam room was out or order. The staff were really nice.

A Great, Relaxing, Chill Out
Just returned from 10 nights all inclusive. Concerned about stories of delayed refurb but reassured by Virgin and need not have worried. Stayed before in 2004 and 2005 thoroughly enjoyed experience but hotel was a little tired. Hotel fast becoming fully operational after major refit. Accompanied by partner and daughter (20s), had 2 superior ocean front rooms with views to die for. Unless convenient avoid ground floor as rooms slightly smaller and look out onto decked terrace and terrace bar with low walls between balcony areas thus less private, but more sociable! Major bonus is Staff, Sandra is back as is Kenny and Ronnie and they are determined to give great service. Only advice is sharpen up housekeeping (some delays in room service and towel replenishment but these are minor teething troubles). Refit is major and rooms very well appointed and comfortable. Has lost some of the Carib ambience but some colour and appropriate music would sort that. In summary a very good holiday ideal for those who seek peace, relaxation, and comfort in a West Coast location with beach and free Catamaran to swim with turtles and 2 free spa tratments. What more could you want - we will return!
Still luvvin it even more!
Just returned on 21 April after third visit here which luckily had a 5 day extension caused by the volcano in Iceland . Really can't find fault with this hotel and the five days extra we had, courtesy of the volcano, Virgin and the owners was a real bonus. Don't believe the bad reviews from people who've never stayed here, it's a brilliant place. The people who work here are wonderful. You are made to feel at home within 30 seconds of walking down the steps to reception, and this continues throughout your stay. Smile and be nice to the staff and you will be rewarded severalfold. You are there to enjoy yourself, and enjoyment is all around. The already high food standard has been raised a notch this year, not only with the addition of the new restaurant fEast but also in the existing Seascape and Garden Restaurants. During our stay, the renovation had not quite been completed, but this was largely invisible. Sure, there were teething problems in some of the rooms but, once reported, these were sorted very quickly. A real achievement was the early completion/preparation of nine refurbished rooms with only a few hours notice when, after checking out, we had to be displaced by new arrivals from the last inbound flight. We were rehoused as soon as our outbound flight was cancelled and the worst that happened was a smell of fresh emulsion on the walls for a few hours. Everything else that happened was good - how luckier could we be? The people here, from housekeeping to kitchen, to bar, to beach, to management, to owners cannot do enough for you. Engage with them and enjoy. It's always difficult to put your finger on exactly what this place does right, but the simply the number of people who visit year after year after year tells its own story.
Great servcie, great staff, great hotel
We went to Barbados to get married and were due home on 15th April but got caught up with the volcano and had to stay an extra five days. We stayed in the hotel - all costs including food and drink were paid for by the travel company (Virgin Holiodays). The staff at the hotel were very friendly and made us feel at home. The food was exccellent with plenty of choice. The accomodation was 1st class. Would highly recommed this hotel. Next time we are in Barbados we will be staying there.
great value and service woth the cost heaven on earth
gr8 place to go since the re fit well worth the wait sorry there have been a lot of negative rubbish posted on here to say diffrent. been here many times and last year it was looking Tired but now the re fit is completed we spwnt our last 3 days in completem heaven, staff 100% and Sandra is still there good London girl , the room staff 100%, the food 100%, the beach staff 99% ( he he) the rooms 5 star see the photos if i can crosss load them
Fabulous hotel in a perfect location.
We have just returned from a perfect holiday at the Waves hotel. From the welcome of the staff, food, location and general atmosphere of the hotel it was truly perfect. The view from our ocean view room was breath taking. There are three restaurants offering anything from Carribean style buffet to Asian cuisine, we ate in the hotel every day and evening and never had a complaint. The hotel has been recently refurbished and although there are still one or two finishing touches needed, the hotel staff are quick to respond to the needs of all guests. The spa is definitely worth a visit. We will definitely be returning.
Lovely Hotel now reopened following refurbishment
We have just returned from Waves and had a lovely holiday as some of the first guests checking in after refurbishment. Staff, food and accomodation of high standard - despite some initial teething problems trying to get hotel reopened and fully operational to accomodate guests. will definitely return. More suitable for adults looking for quiet holiday by the beach rather than families.
Definitely a YES
We were lucky enough to be able to transfer to the Waves on the first day of opening - it is a fantastic hotel and once all the amenities are up and running then I am sure everyone who visits there will be pleased with their stay. It's breath-taking when you walk through the Reception and look out onto the Caribbean. ALL the staff, as we expected, are extremely friendly and helpful, with lots of the old staff returning - Sandra, Kenny, Ronnie and many more. The new fEast restaurant is a new air conditioned restaurant. The SeaScape Restaurant is a lovely open room used for breakfast/lunch and dinner (bird netting has been put up but a few birds still find their way in!). The Garden Restaurant is (as it's always been) good food/service. Food in ALL restaurants is very good and I know the staff are intending to extend the choices especially in the buffet meals. The rooms are furnished to modern tastes and are comfortable and clean. Minor things like soap dispensers are in the the throes of being re-ordered - lots of things went down in the sunken boat, which would have been used/fitted before guests arrived, but as these things were trivial to us we just wanted to experience the new refurb and are very glad we did. The Spa area will be opening shortly (circa 2-3 weeks). The Tranquility Garden is a new part of the Spa (the owners have taken over more land and are using this for more space on The Spa side). The Spa rooms are being upgraded with new bathroom furniture. Even though parts of the beach had receded (it will come back again), it was still nice and the sea was so warm. Most of my photos are showing on Travellers Photos on the right of the screen (February 2008!) Whoops, sorry! Probably because I hadn't done this review before posting photos!
wonderful hotel for couples but little to do for chlidren.
I agree with all that fascati21 has said. we have just returned. we had a lovely holiday, one thing I must add however, anybody who enjoys a lovely garden be sure to find your way to Huntes garden. not in any guide book that I have seen, but what an oasis, it is just inland from bathsheba, the owner is a very charming man who will invite you onto his private terrace, where he serves you a rum punch or a beer if you wish.
Up and Running
Now up & running & looks good. Waves is in the style of a Boutique Hotel quite modern and compact. Situated on a main road, you have to cross the road to get to the Spa, which is now open. The Spa treatments are very good, using all natural products They have three Restaurants, all serving quality food, with reasonable choice of dishes. Be sure to book the air conditioned East restaurant as the food is delicious. There are two swimming pools at the hotel, one is in the main building, on the small side but surrounded by decking and large modern brown sun beds. The Spa pool is larger & set in the Tranquil Garden. The bedrooms facing the sea are lovely as the sun sets just outside your window. The bedrooms by the Spa are not yet operational. We found the staff to be so friendly and helpful. Whilst the Hotel is situated next to the main road, there is a supermarket five minutes walk away. Also the bus stops are just outside the Hotel, either a free daily shuttle into Bridgetown or public transport to other parts of the Island. The beach is on the small side, but well laid out for water sports and sunbathing. Even though there was the odd teething issue, there were no serious problems. Anything that cropped up was dealt with by the staff, quickly and efficiently. We certainly enjoyed our stay and it can only get better.
Fabulous Refurbishment
We recently managed to spend the last 3 days of our 10 day holiday here. The delay in opening was due to a cargo ship sinking 100 miles offshore with vital equipment on board.Fantastic food, fantastic furniture, fantastic beds, fantastic showers, fantastic beach and most importantly fantastic staff (as usual). The refurb. was not quite finished at the time we left, the garden restaurant opened 23 March. We were lucky enough to meet the owners, who sat amongst the guests chatting and asking "is there anything we can do for you just say". Hey, I've never experienced that in any hotel before. The opening night was Saturday 20 March and everyone was invited to champagne in the bar. Can't wait for our next trip. Melanie Wratten and Paul Merriman
