The secret to getting the best from this hotel is to stay in the Camino Club, the seperate newer tower. For about $25 more per night you get large, newer room included breakfast and free cocktails for happy hour. The furnishings and fixtures are much newer and modern in this tower. Large balconies and high ceilings makes this a fantastic bargain.

My husband and I just got back from a 5 night trip to PV. We have stayed at resorts all over Mexico (Playa del Carmen, Cabo San Lucas, Zihuatanejo) and the Camino Real was one of the best hotels we have stayed at. The beach was secluded and beautiful. The hotel sets out many beach chairs and palapas for the guests. Maria Bonita (the new restaruant at the hotel) has very good Mexican food. The staff was helpful, but not always that friendly. We recently celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary at The Camino Real Hotel. This was our second visit to PV and last time we came, we stayed at the bustling hotel district area (Fiesta Americana) which was very nice but did not have the quaint ambience and charm of Camino Real. Although Camino is an older property, herein is its exquisite charm. It has beautiful garden walkways, marble floors and is tucked away in a not so heavily populated area in the mountains. My partner and I are in our early 30s and were looking for a nice place to stay in PV with friendly service, comfortable rooms, good value, and a nice beach -- we were pleasantly surprised that we got all this and more at the Camino Real for our stay July 2-8th. stayed here june 29-july 4. very nice, comfortable, relaxing atmosphere. not posh, but clean and everyone very nice. best beach area from what we seen around town and Marina area.beware of mayan palace time sharing salespeople, they are EVERYWHERE: downtown, marina, they even come in restaurants while you are eating, (republic faita). they do get on your nerves and you want to scream leave me alone. the town is very pretty and charming. i did enjoy my stay. and i would recommend this hotel especially for 1st time visitors. we took alot of... more

This is generally a great hotel... the views are terriffic, it's a bit out of the City so it's quiet and nice, the staff was friendly, the food was good in the restaurants, breakfast buffet was great... BUT... the beds weren't that great... old shabby bedspreads and mattresses that were as hard as a rock at times. It really hurt my knees. I would have no problem if they replaced the beds, and raised their rates by say $20 a night to cover those costs... if they did that, it might be perfection!

I just read all these reviews, and we stayed at the Camino Real in April, 2002. The beach was gorgeous and secluded. Much, much better than the Westin or other big name hotels. We got the modified American plan which included two meals a day. I couldn't believe the person that said the breakfast was only average - it is stupendous! We only eat two meals a day when we travel anyway. We had dinner there every night and it was absolutely wonderful each time. I have stayed at the Camino Real the last two years, and hopefully will make another trip this Dec. or Jan. The view is wonderful, rooms clean and staff is friendly. Beach is secluded and well maintained. Great food....remember, you get what you pay for most times... Excellent service when transportation is needed..30 pesos for a ride to town. It is not a place for those that want ongoing entertainment and activities, but that can be found right in PV... I recommend it highly...book & enjoy...

This place was great. Rooms were big, great ocean view, and the staff was awesome! It is also very close to town. A $3 cab ride to downtown. The drink and food prices are kind of high, but everything else more then makes up for that. Youll love it. My wife and I are going back this December for 2 weeks this time. We cant wait.

This is an awesome hotel. My husband and I went to this hotel five years ago when we were dating and we just got back from our second trip there. This hotel is truely the best in Puerto Vallarta. It has the absolute best private beach in town (the hotel zone hotels have rocky beaches and Camino has a sandy beach, the sand is also whiter than the other side of the island). Great great rooms, great service. Will definately return again. LOVE IT!
