The Jacaranda can be recommended for...
7 / 10
Jun 2008, Mrs C Hughes

The Jacaranda can be recommended for families, but not for anyone wanting a quiet, calm and relaxing time, as the noise levels around the pool can become quite jarring. The food is generally excellent and the staff are extremely competent at replenishing food as it runs out on the buffet. The rooms are large and adequate, and the whole complex is very hygenically clean. My only other gripe is that for all inclusive, you have to wear a blue band and can only order from a specific menu of drinks, which on the whole, are not very good quality. On the plus side, bottles of wine and water can be ordered, all inclusively, in the restaurant. Mind you, if you like good quality wine, leave your taste buds at home, as the wine is very much like coloured water!

As a young couple travelling abroad...
10 / 10
May 2008, Miss E Williamson

1 reader found this review helpful

As a young couple travelling abroad together we were a bit aprehensive about the hotel as in the brochure it was put across as a 'family' hotel. However we found this was not the total case as there was many other couples there too ranging from our age, late teens, to old groups. The hotel is large however doesn't feel like it is as it is easy to access the whole areas of the hotel and with it being the size it is it allows everyone to find somewhere to enjoy. The roof garden is lovely to sit on late afternoon for a break from sunbathing. For a quieter sunning experience go to floor 5 and you are greeted with a roof terrace, pool bar and a smaller pool, you find that this is generally less busy than the main pool area and quieter to relax. The pool area is both clean and well maintained. You can comfortably get a lounger that isn't on top of fellow guests! We did find that although claims from the hotel loungers cant be reserved people did on their way down to breakfast. Do this, we ended up after a few days! It has a good mix of nationalities in the hotel including english, german and french, so there is always someone to chat to. Also with the hotel being so large again it allows there to be more people you would like to meet! The poolside entertainment would be great for children and younger teens and even some activities like shooting were enjoyed by adults! The 4pm bingo was always popular also.
On to the resteraunt, the food was excellent everyday! We honestly cannot find a fault with the quality or quantity! We were on half board at the hotel so did not get to see what the lunchtimes were like however we found that we ate that much at breakfast we didnt even eat dinner or if we did it was a sandwich at the most from one of the beach front cafe's. A few people i heard complaining about the set times to eat but breakfast is 7.30-10.30am plenty of time to just shove some clothes on and grab something, there is cooked breakfast, fruits, cereals, breads and meats every morning so everyone is catered for. As for evening meals there are 2 sittings, you can go at 6.45-7.00pm to be seated or at 8.30-8.45pm. Any later you may not be allowed in but you can get into a routine and meet this easily. We did! Evening meals were constantly different and catered for everyone.
The maids came everyday and cleaned the room to a high standard. The rooms are a decent size and the facilities are of a good standard. You can pay 30euros to keep the room an extra day or as we did book a courtesy room for half an hour to get a shower and then there are plenty of toilet facilities around the complex along with sinks and cubicles in the luggage room which we used to organise our suitcases.
The area itself is exactly what we wanted. We enjoyed it so much we are already planning our next trip there for this summer!! You can walk down to the beach and the sea walk within 10minutes. There is a spar and a netto supermarket on that stretch so you can get anything you need from there. There are loads of little beach bars and restaraunts to keep you going for your stay and the obvious gift shops etc. With the occasional looky looky men! We ended up falling in love with Ye Olde Ocean fun pub and ended up there everynight without fail even if it was just for one. The staff are all really friendly and chatty, especially Ian the manager, Dave and Dave the waiter and PR who will chat to you about anything and everything. Ash the host is hilarious and naturally funny its not cheesy put on! Be warned though it is a karaoke and cabaret bar so if your not fond of either then you may not enjoy as much, mind you the whole area is cabaret and this pub had some of the best acts we saw!!! The boyfriend fell in love with their cheesy chips as well for dinner! There is a Maccys on the beach for anyone missing some home comforts. A 15min walk leads you to the top of a hill with some more bigger bars and resteraunts and a small shopping centre. O'reillys is worth a visit for the live band and atmosphere. On this walk is Harleys american diner, defo pay this a visit! Although the prices may seem steep the portions and the quality of food is worth it by far! If you want to do the clubbing scene head on down to Veronicas strip in Playas las Americas. A 10euro cab fare and its worth it even if you only go once. Just make sure you have a backbone as the world and its wife will try enticing you to there bars. We'd recommend visiting O'neills to start the night. Branigans, Gas for indie style music and finish up in Rags or Tramps which dont get busy till 3ish anyway!
The hotel is good for any troubles and never bothers no matter what time you roll in!
Overall we've had one of the best holidays we've ever been on and even though we've been back a day we are already looking to book the next one

We have been back in England for only...

We have been back in England for only 3 days and are already longing for another holiday. Tenerife is a fantastic holiday location, and the jacaranda hotel is superb. It is a spacious and clean hotel with several pools and bars. Although sunbed reservations are forbidden, everybody does it! So get up early. The restaurant caters for all, and there is always a large selection on offer. Long trousers are to be worn at dinner seatings, and although collars are advised we saw many people wearing t.shirts. The staff were all friendly and the thomas cook rep was helpful. We found the evening entertainment poor but if you have children they will enjoy it. If not, the piano bar was good. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and would definatly return to tenerife. The only downer were the flight delays. (5 hours out and 7 hours return) There are plenty of restaurants and bars and we would recomend the freebird one vip boat trip. We saw lots of dolphins and whales, which you are 99% guarenteed to see- if not they take you out again. Don't bother with the jeep safari. They tell you it is a relaxed day but they rush you. Most of the day is spent in the car. Stops at local villages and places of interest are limited to 15 minutes. We seemed to stop for more fag breaks (as all the drivers smoked) and the guide Paul was a bit of a cowboy.

Mar 2008, Mr C Brannen

This was the best holiday ever! Hotel was fab the staff were lovely the entertainment was great and we didn't want to leave. The one thing that did happen was there was a glass top on the table in the room my little boy 5 mins after arriving slipped and smashed it. There were no injuries but I think rooms with children in should maybe be a bit more child friendly. Saying that there was a cleaner there in 5 mins and the room was cleared of any broken glass and we weren't charged for the breakage. If they had of tried then maybe I would not have rated the hotel so well.

This hotel was an absolute delight!! the rooms were very clean, the pools were wonderful, the staff were all very pleasant, evening entertainment was very good, we had a lovely time there.
The surrounding area is very clean, (a bit hilly if you have any difficulties walking.)
Along the promanade by the sea there were restaurants of all nationalities, and prices were very reasonable.
Although in Tenerife the sand is black the beaches are very clean, well kept and clean swept daily.
Thomas cook were absolutely brilliant nothing was too much trouble.

Jan 2008, Mrs A Sayers

Myself and my husband have just arrived back after a 7day stay at the Jacaranda. We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel and staff were great. The food was excellent and the entertainment staff work very hard to keep people entertained. The only problem was we had a room with a small bouble bed we did not complain about it which i suppose we should have done.
I also found the entertainment staff at the top pool did not relay in english what sports were taking place. It seem to be mainly in Italian and German. Fantastic holiday and we would definitely go back again.

Hi, just returned from the Jacaranda...
8 / 10
Dec 2007, Mr P CORSER

Hi, just returned from the Jacaranda last night, we had a wonderful week there. We have always stayed in rented apartments before in this area so we know it well. This hotel is huge with some parts 9 floors. On first appearances it looks dated compared to some others in the immediate area and feels a bit like Butlins however it really grows on you. I would go back but I don’t think in the mid summer as I think it would be an extremely busy hotel, I think it was working about half capacity and it was comfortable as you could always get sunbeds any time of day and the restaurant was never at capacity on either of the 2 sittings.
There was 11 in our party aged 16 months to 55 we all had a great time, the weather was forecast rain most of the week but it was glorious apart from Wednesday which was overcast. Went to the loro parque, been before and it is still a great day out, hotel rep quoted 47 euros each, a short walk for hotel local shops selling excursions 30 euros (old saying don’t buy any trips from the reps).
The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful however as another person has stated it is noisy in the morning with the cleaners clattering around dragging furniture about also people leaving pulling their cases along the tiled corridor floors we were woken every morning early.
The hotel is in a good area close to the beach and has lots of little bars around the area recommend the Wigan pier owner Charlie a nice bloke and his staff are very friendly. There are loads to do in the area with numerous excursions and things to do if you’re a pool person there are 3 pools downstairs and another 3 on the 5th floor, 2 lifts between them. You get the sun all day on the 5th floor and the bar has happy hour between 4.30 and 5.30 buy one get one free. Our room was on the 5th floor with a pool outside great.
We had a great time and will go back to this hotel but out of the main season. Don’t change money in the hotel much better exchange rate at bank machines or shops changing currency.

Oct 2007, Mr TK Kristiansen

My wife and I were searching for a sunny place and found this hotel in Tenerife.
The service was absolute top at the hotel. The room was clean and neat. The breakfast was good. But the hotel was huge! We knew that before we left, so that was no surprise, but we will go for a smaller place next time.
But I found one thing very negative: There were a lot of rules by the pools. You were not allowed to reserve sunbeds. You were not allowed to jump directly into the pool. You were not allowed to bring inflatable toys into the pool. There were special ones for adults and children in the pools. But no rules were followed and noone was trying to enforce the rules. Strange!
The other thing: When you went to the bar, everyone was jumping the line! That is not the hotels problem, but the bartender could try to use a bit of energy to ask who is next in line. Well, after all, a nice time in the sun. And I'm sad to say, the Scandinavians do not behave well when they get a blue band around the wrist.

Booked holiday 7 months ago. Informed 3 days before departure that they had overbooked and that they could not accommodate us. Absolute disgrace, they had total disregard for our predicament and treated us with contempt. Luckily Hotel Bougainville Playa came to our rescue.

Have been back from Jacaranda for a...
7 / 10
Sep 2007, Miss

Have been back from Jacaranda for a couple of days and for the first time ever I didn't mind coming home! Went with my boyfriend, mum and her partner. Would definitely not use Thomas Cook again, was indicated when booking our holiday on line that we had transfers to and from the airport to the hotel. Much to our great disappointment when we got there no bus was waiting for us and we ended up having to pay for a taxi. Once we spoke to the Thomas Cool rep at the Hotel the next day she said although we had booked through Thomas Cook that was as a travel agents not as a holiday company so we basically had paid Thomas Cook to pay another company for the holiday!? Very confusing and definitely not explained at the time of booking.
Anyway, on the holiday. The hotel was lovely, really well set out and the reception staff were friendly. Our biggest problem was the fact of being woken up every day at 8 am by the cleaners, although we put do not disturb on our door they were LOUDLY moving the furniture around and slamming the doors. Not the relaxed break we had in mind! Towards the end this really got to all of us as I just can't get back to sleep once woken up! However if you have young kids that wake up early or are early risers any way this won't cause you a problem. But if like us you want to be able to enjoy a lie in on holiday please bear this in mind!
With regards to the location I was quite worried after reading the reviews as most people had said it wasn't really suitable for young people and being 20 I was worried about being bored... no need though! It was a 10 minute walk to the beach and all the bars along the sea front. With the weather being so lovely and hot we spent quite a few days down there. It was a nice beach, and the water was quite clear. Lots of water activities if you are in to that. We went on a boat trip to see the dolphins and whales, would strongly recommend! Was very different seeing them in their natural habitat than performing at water parks.
The weather was great! Although, take a high factor cream as we got quite burnt!
If you are like us (typical brits) and love going to the English bars would VERY highly recommend the 'First and Last', It's on the seafront and the staff are just great! John, the scouser that does the presenting was brilliant! They have a quiz every night from half 9, jug of cocktail for the winners, karaoke for an hour then an act. We saw a hypnotist show which was possibly the funniest thing I've ever seen!
The food at the hotel was nice, a big selection. We were worried the first night as there was barely anything we recognized and whilst we will try most food it was a bit worrying not to recognize anything! Food got better as the stay went on. Pastas, steak one night, good fish selection. I had lasagne twice and it was just gorgeous
That about sums it up, like I said if you don't mind waking up early then this is a lovely hotel but if you want to relax and lie in on your days off work possibly worth looking at somewhere else.

We got back from the Jacaranda last...
10 / 10
Jun 2007, Miss V Marr

We got back from the Jacaranda last night much to my disappointment - I nearly cried when I had to leave! It is a fabulous hotel, absolutely loved it.
We stayed from the 1st - 8th June. It was so lovely and hot - never had such a good tan, we were a bit dubious about the weather as the forecast was low 20's and clouds - yeah it was more like 30's and cloudy meant about two clouds in the sky!.
We travelled with Thomas Cook, and they are a great professional company to travel with. Our reps were brilliant.
We had return transfers to the hotel with Thomas Cook, as we dropped different people off at various hotels we were determined ours was going to be a beach hut or some shack, we were highly mistaken. Our hotel was lovely. The best out of all of them! There were people on the door to greet you, we checked in really quick and had a porter bring our bags to our room. We were on the same floor as reception, floor 2 however that isn't the ground.
We requested a pool view room as suggested by a Thomas Cook Phone rep, as apparently a sea view room can be noisy as it is on a main road, don't know how true that is? As we had a room with a fantastic view of the pool area and water fall. I gazed at the view for hours. Every room has its own balcony with chairs and table, and our balcony was sunny.
Room was basic; however I didn't expect any less. Room had everything we needed including a gigantic bed that could have slept four. Cleaned everyday with fresh towels and top sheets.
Bottom pool area for families, there’s about four pools down there, and was always really busy. They seemed to love Axel F Crazy Frog down there and played it at least four times a day - which you couldn't help but laugh at!
We never went to bottom pool area - we always went to top pool - meant to be adults only - however children did go up there. There is one very shallow pool - great to cool off in and salt water pool - good for swimming. Of course the bar Coco Loco is very close and you can always get a sun lounger. Sun loungers although forbidden for reservation - were always reserved - especially in lower pool area - but same where ever you go.
We had the Italian reps from alphatours doing our entertainment, very strange games! But funny to watch.
The whole hotel was kept so clean and organised. Pools shut at 7 every night - and at quarter to seven the hotel staff are rearranging all the loungers back to correct positions and cleaning all loungers and area.
We stayed all inclusive, breakfast would finish at half ten, not sure of start time never got up that early! Lunch was at 12.30-2 and Dinner you could either go at 18.45 or 20.45, we always went early. Food was not bad, pretty basic, usual salad, fruit, salami, cheese, rolls etc. There was always a menu to let you not what hot dishes would be served that evening. A chef would make up omelettes and fried eggs etc in the morning. There was also bacon, and tomatoes etc or muesli and other cereals, not bad considering they have to cater for all ages and different countries such as English, Italian, German and Spanish mainly.
Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Jacaranda for one week, I am 24 and he is 26! There weren’t many young couples at this hotel at all. It was mostly families and older couples or groups. But this wasn't a problem; we would rather not be woken up by drunken young people at 5 in the morning!
The hotel was very close to Del Duche (the posher upper class beach - gorgeous white sands and clear blue sea) - 15 minutes walk.
Playa Fanabe - closest (about 7-10 minutes walk) Black sands and clear blue sea, loads of restaurants and bars - including Burger King and McDonalds
Puerto Colon - The Tenerife St Tropez - where the boat excursions go from (15minutes walk) - We did the Free Bird One - to see whales and dolphins. Did see them but wasn't that impressed. Depends how much you like dolphins and travelling on a boat. It was 52 Euros each with Thomas Cook that's about £37!
Playa De Las Americas - The livelier part of Tenerife (35-40 minutes walk but lovely walk) As the rest of this area of Tenerife, Playa is completely commercial - this whole part of Tenerife is like being in England but with fabulous scenery and sunshine.
The famous Veronica's strip - we were told is going down hill a bit - so we spent all our time on the Starco strip. Here you have Leornados known as the No 1 meeting place - you get loads of bar crawls starting here - very entertaining to watch and join in with.
Other places of interest are Yates, Edwards, The Mett Bar, Tramps, Bonkers and the famous Linnekars bar! You have many bar tauts from each bar trying to get you in to their bar! They will offer that if you buy a drink you will get a receipt and you can get another one free, you don't have to use it that day if you don't want to, which is a bonus, however you pay about 14 euros for two drinks (with your buy one get one free!) so really you are paying like £10 for four drinks which isn't too bad, but a bit of a swizz!.
You can get a taxi to this part from the hotel, just go to reception and ask for a taxi, they will ring you one and it arrives in minutes! And it will cost you around 10 euros each way. The cab is metered but they don't dither about don't you worry, you are there in no time, about 5-7 minutes drive - just say to driver Veronica's, Leordardo's or Starco's (they will all take you to the same place) and you get your cab back from there too!
All in all - it was so good, and I defiantly would go back to same hotel, same place! I hope you had as good a time as we did.
