We're just back from 10 days at the Atlantica Bay Hotel, Limassol and it was fantastic. The Atlantica Bay is definately the best hotel we have ever stayed in and the high standards the hotel sets are as good as any of the Thomson's Cruise ships. We'd been there 2 years ago... more

Not quite worthy of five T status
This was the first time i,ve stayed in a thomson gold hotel, firstly,if you like it lively it,s not for you, evening caberet was average, there was a darts comp, quizzes and carpet bowls to pass your time through the day, decent gym though. The staff mostly eastern european were very good and very friendly, the rooms were very clean and large,we had a rear facing room on the 3rd floor and the problem we had was the binmen emptying the glass bottle bins at 4am everymorning, very annoying in a five T,s hotel so go for the seaview room unless you are a heavy sleeper. The hotel is quite a way out of limmasol but there is good bus service every 20 mins about 80p,The food was ok and plenty of choice in the buffet style restaurant, It,s worth trying the A La Carte menu at an extra £6.00 per person which is more worthy of the 5 stars and very enjoyable.Overall a nice hotel, food ok,rooms very large and clean, staff very good & very friendly, entertainment ok if you are over 50, not for the younger end but they entertained us ok,If you like a drink take the all inc option and save a few pounds.
Lovely Holiday!!
My husband and I stayed in this hotel at the beginning of February. We generally have 2 holidays a year, usually in Spain, but as this was a spur of the moment break we decided on Cyprus - and are we glad that we did!! The hotel was lovely and the food was good (the only downside - I love chips and they weren't served once). The breakfasts were second to none everything freshly cooked. Because it was February the weather was quite good except for 2 days when it poured with rain but that did not stop us enjoying trips to Kirynia and the Troodos mountains. I would highly recommend this hotel, although it is about 10km out of Limassol, the bus service is excellent and also car hire, if you shop around, is cheap. We hired a car for 3 days for £34 Cypriot. We enjoyed the place so much we are looking to go again in October. The tour reps were also very good and helpful, they entertained us in the evenings in the ballroom. Kristopher, the waiter in the lounge was lovely and always remembered what everyone wanted to drink.
hot food served on cold plates
Being a user of Thompson Gold hotels, this was the worst hotel we've ever experienced. Hygeine leaves a lot to be desired ie. scum under the taps, bedding not changed regular and the hot food was never hot always cold plates food reputitious and not appetising. Having complained to Thompsons found my complaints to be recived with lip service. This hotel does not warrent a Thompsons Gold award and due to this will not be using Thompson ever again. Would sugest Thompsons Review this Hotel as regards awards of T T T T+.
A good hotel in an unfortunate location
A late booking seen in the travel agent's window meant that we couldn't fail to have good value for money. The Atlantica Bay had recently been refurbished and had 5 star touches, such as, sofas on the terrace. It was spotlessly clean. Our bedroom was a good size with a king size bed and power shower. The serving staff were mainly young Eastern Europeans. All the staff were friendly and professional. The drinks were reasonable and you could buy an all-inclusive drinks package, which was so convenient. The self-service restaurant was efficient and pleasant. Good mass catering. We could want for nothing as it had such a wide selection. Situated 50 yards from the sea, the hotel was sandwiched between the old and new coast roads. There was the constant hum of traffic and our sea view room was noisy. In the evening there was nowhere to stroll to as there were no pavements on the old road. During daylight a pedestrian walkway along the narrow, pebbled beach into Limassol was easily accessible and very pleasant. A regular, cheap bus service was used by locals and tourists. This hotel seemed to be used mainly by Thomson Gold. (Middle-aged to elderly couples.) At 11 a.m. the Rep used the loudspeaker to announce the day's activities. "HIYA EVERONE!" screeched out. But once past this shock those people who did join in darts, quizes, etc did seem to enjoy themselves. The evening entertainment was mixed. I thought the resident duo was good. As usual, the Thomson excursions were expensive but informative and well run. All in all, everyone seemed happy and chatty. Lots of couples had returned several times.
Luxury with a capital L
We upgraded to a superior room and the room we were allocated was absolutely fantastic. There was a hot tub on balcony and the room itself was excellently furnished, with a canopied king size bed. There was fruit and wine as a gift from management, on arrival, and we had tea and coffee making facilities - supplies updated daily. The entertainment in the hotel was very good with very talented artistes and the reps were helpful and excellent at their jobs. The hotel offer an all-inclusive beverage service for £9.75 per day per person. This covers tea, coffee, water, wine, spirits and cocktails and is extremely good value. Highly recommended
Great Holiday, Nice Hotel
We stayed for a week at the end of October. Holiday booked through Portland Direct, opted for Superior Room (which i think is the same as standard at this hotel but faces the Sea and Swimming Pool). Note that the Thomson flight is usually full and the seat formation is 2-4-2. They really do pack you in. Therefore if you have middle seats then you can get rather cramped. So best to request the window seats before you travel. Also bring your own headphones if you want to watch the inflight movie and avoid having to buy them on the plane. Hotel room was nice, double bed, desk, sofa, balcony with table and chairs. Bed was firm but you get used to it. TV had only 3 english channels (watched some TV because it rained a lot during our week there). A/C was switched off - reason given was it was winter season and A/C is therefore switched off in all rooms. However, the fan of the A/C vent still worked but you needed to have the balcony doors closed before it would kick in. However, those clever enough can figure out a way to keep the fan on and the balcony doors open. The decor of the room was a bit tattered. I would not class this hotel as 4+ stars. It needs some renovation to maintain its 4 stars. The two pools were nice but it was quite cold to use. We only used on one day when it was warm. Hotel is quite far from Limassol town centre, but you can catch bus number 30 from outside the hotel which will get you into town in about 20 minutes. The town centre is quite nice, has some quaint shops and also some of the english high street stores. The food at the hotel is good. We did half board but funnily enough still got an a la carte voucher. The a la carte dinner was excellent. The buffet breakfast and dinners were good. After the 7 days we were rather fed up with the same stuff so i don't know how people on 2 week holidays cope with the food. Wife did a dead sea mud mask at the hotel salon. She said it was good. I did the steam room. Bad mistake. Firstly there was hardly any steam and secondly it was not very clean with spider webs in the room. We did a day trip to Egypt on our holiday. We booked through Regency Travel and not Thomson because it was slightly cheaper. Reason for not doing the Cruise was we only had a week in Cyprus and therefore didn't want to waste 2 days on a Cruise and also due to winter season we didn't want to risk the choppy seas. In fact the last sailing was on Monday 30th of October due to Winter Season. The Egypt trip was the highlight of the holiday. It included the hotel transfers, flights, pyramids, sphynx, lunch at Le Meridien Hotel, Papyrus Institute (where they will really try to sell you an expensive papyrus), Egyptian Museum, Nile Cruise with belly dancing and dinner and visit to the market where you can barter for cheap souvenirs. Note however that it is not fully inclusive as they say it is. You need to pay to enter the pyramid and also pay to view the mummy room in the Egyptian Museum. However, beware that the tour guide will collect the money for these two in the coach but we later found it was cheaper in both cases to buy the tickets directly at the site. In the case of the pyramid entry the tickets cost £2 from a booth near the pyramid. In the case of the mummy room it costs £10 from a booth outside the room entry. There is also opportunity to have photo on a camel, but do this at the 2nd pyramid you visit for £1. We pre-booked hire car for 3 days through Portland Direct (cheaper than booking once you are there). The rental car company they use is Europcar. The first car they gave us did not start and had some damage. The 2nd car started but had 67K on the mileometer with some damage. Both were Kias. So beware that although Europcar is usually a good company outside of Cyprus. In Cyprus it will give you poor quality cars. Make sure you note all damage on the envelope they give you and also make sure you try and start it before the delivery man leaves otherwise you may be left with a useless car for which you may have to waste time trying to get a replacement. With the car we visited Paphos Harbour - very nice, Baths of Aphrodite (a polluted small waterfall), Kykkos Monastery (long winding drive up the mountains) - has museum, monastery and cafe. Monastery was not as grand as we were led to believe by Thomson rep. Still good to get into the mountains to see the nice views. We also did Lanarca and Nicosia. Lanarca was better with the Marina. Nicosia was a disappointment, just had a high street with the usual shops you see in England. Although it does have a Nandos for those who like that. All in all, a very good holiday. Highlight - Egypt. Disappointment - Weather was bad (got only 3 days of sun).
Fantastic holday!!!
We stayed at the Atlantica for a week coming back on the 4th October. The hotel was fantastic, you get greeted with a glass of orange juice with all your room details. We had a standard room but it was definately up to my high standards. With a small sitting area, large double bed and balcony looking over the sea. The food was really nice, although if all inclusive it does get a bit repetetive after a few days. Fantastic if you want to diet when you get back though as it puts you off eating as you can eat so much whilst your away. We went to the a la carte restaurant once during our stay, you get this included for free once during your stay if you go all inclusive. The drinks were included too, with a variety of over 30 cocktails and very large measures of alcohol if you had single drinks. The staff were really attentive and friendly. Rik the Thomson Rep really made our holiday, he was absolutely fantastic. Got everyone included that wanted to take part in activities which include darts, pool, water polo and a daily quiz where you can win a bottle of champagne. I would highly recommend the Katamaran Cruise for £50pp where you get treated like royaly for the day plus you get a fantastic tan at the same time. The entertainment was OK. The best part of the week was the Gala Evening where the Thomson staff put on a show. The hotel is very isolated with a 10 minute walk to the nearest shops and pubs. Although there's a bar on the beech about 5 minutes away which would suit younger couples. There was a few kids at the hotel but they seemed to spend their time at the beech area. They weren't any trouble so I have no complaints. All in all a fantastic holiday, although I wouldn't recommend coming back on a Wednesday as Paphos airport is proper rammed with people. Plus if the flights get delayed in the morning it affects your flight returning.
Great Holiday
Just returned after spending two weeks at the Atlantica Bay, what a fantastic holiday we had. Everything about the service in this hotel, from reception to dining room, domestic to bar staff, all were first rate and nothing was too much trouble. The Reps worked hard, and the evening entertainment was excellent. We attended two Gala dinners, which were very special. This hotel is best for couples aged 30 and above. We enjoyed it so much we are going back next year.
Friendly Staff
Just returned from a 2 week HB stay at Atlantica Bay Limassol. Would recommend the hotel to friends. Staff were very friendly courtious, helpful and always with a smile. Food was of a good standard and plenty of choice for meals, must admit on the first day we did over fill our plates. Lobby area was always clean and tidy. Room with a sea view ground floor balcony with good view. Rooms were cleaned everyday. Pool and area were tidy with more than enough sunbeds and umbrellas. Sands beach area (over the road through underpass) clean and tidy also with enough sunbeds and umbrellas. Hotel is in a quiet area with no night life other than that provided by the hotel. If you want to go into Limassol jump on the bus, only 80c, bus stop is directly opposite the hotel. The only thing we were not pleased about was having to pay for the fridge and security box in the room, you would expect that they would be included in the price.
Great hotel but beware the buliding site behind
Great hotel, Staff were very friendly. If you have a room with a sea view, you will not notice the building site. If you are unfortunate enough to get a room in the front of the hotel then you WILL overlook a building site. Also be aware, this hotel is a little way from the centre of town. If you are planning to stay in the hotel during the evening, then well worth booking, if you want to stroll along a street full of shops and bars book some where else.
