Apartamentos Aguamar Reviews

Do not go half board!
4 / 10
Jan 2012, Jerry

I booked the Aguamar along with a few friends for a weeks stay, on the strength of the very good reviews on this site. Unfortunately I would not go along with many of the positive reviews already posted. My main gripe is with the food – I would urge anyone looking to stay here half board, do not do it! The dining room is very small and the buffet area tiny – we were here in November and they were running out of food and taking an age to replace it (if at all), I am not sure how they manage in peak-season. The food was all processed and tasted disgusting and there were hardly any options – vegetarians can basically forget it. I know this is a 3* but even so that is no excuse for what they served up. Breakfast is just about do-able, providing of course they haven’t run out of what you want, although with good hearty breakfast options in the town starting from as little as €2.50, I would do that instead! The restaurants in Los Cristianos, in my view, were very good value and proper wholesome food. Even though we had paid for half board, we ate out nearly every night.
There is no air-con in the rooms and I would imagine in the height of summer, this would be unbearable – especially on the side we were on. Our room backed on to a main road and there was only a small window (high up above the bed). It was very stuffy, dark and uncomfortable in the bedroom.
For any sun-worshippers, there is only one part of the pool-side that gets any sun and there is a scramble every day for sunbeds in that area. We spent every day down the beach instead – make sure to cross over the bridge to the right of the port in Los Cristianos for the golden beach looking out to sea (as opposed to the beach looking out at all the ferries).
The wifi in the Aguamar is €20 per device, not per room so please bear that in mind if more than one person wants wifi on their mobiles etc. Also, the wifi will not stay logged in – you will keep having to log back in every half hour which is a pain so be careful not to lose your wifi ticket and be extra careful that the print does not rub out. This happened with me, I simply folded the ticket in my purse and the ink rubbed off. Reception were not very helpful at all at first and would not replace my ticket or give me another code, although it does depend on who you speak to as the second lady I saw was more helpful and replaced my ticket.
On the whole I really enjoyed what Tenerife has to offer and the walk from Los Cristianos to Las Americas is well worth it. It is a good walk but the two resorts practically bump into each other so there is no empty areas along the way, which is a nice stroll along the beach promenade. I was really impressed with Las Americas, I was expecting a typical brit-resort but was very pleasantly surprised. It was very smart with lots of nice shops and restaurants – everything was so clean and smart. I would definitely return to Tenerife and in November time again, came back with a fantastic tan – we had perfect weather all week!

Just got back from 1 week stay at the Aguamar Los Cristianos, had a great time. Hotel staff very friendly and always willing to help.We stayed half board, the food was quite basic,(what you would expect in any hotel) but was a very good standed and very well cooked. They did a mean chicken corma one night that was so good. There was always a choice of a couple of main dishes to choose from each day.The rooms are kept very clean and the showers are very good and powerfull. The location of the hotel is good,a bit of a walk to the beach, but some nice bars to drink at just across the road.Must go to the Merry Monk for a drink(just near the big suppermarket) run by english family(great turns on and great fun).Would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a good holiday.

we just came back on the 24th of July, unfortunity the weather was awful the whole week, we spoke to people near by they said its rarely like this we were just unlucky which is true as ive been to tenerife 5 times before.
The hotel was faultless, it was so clean and rooms were just great, we felt right at home. maids came 5 out of 7 days with new bedding and towels it was spotless.
we were self catering so we went out every night, all the places to eat are a ten minute walk into the beach front. the chinese slow boat was really good. also if u go upto the left of the hotel there is a place called rubina's which is pricey but worth it. also if u go down to the right of the hotel there is a place called porkies which do the best food i loved it as im a fussy eater they are english so understould me if i wanted to change anything. entertainment wise is rubbish at the hotel there is nothing except from a kids parrot show at 6-7pm. the pool area was goood, life gaurd was amazing with the kids he had lots of time for them. reception staff are rly kind. also if you want any tickets for anything dont go anywhere else except the 2 girls under the tunnel at las vista's beach they do them for 25 euro instead of 32 euro. siam park was great where as aqualand is brutal its went so down hill dont go. we done go karting which was such a good night.

Just returned from 7 nights at Aguamar with husband and six year old son. We were in third floor apartment with nice view of pool (but backing onto quite a busy road). The apartment was smaller than we had anticipated, but was nicely decorated, very clean and good value for money. Beds quite hard, difficult to get comfortable. Great fun at the pool, the lifeguard was good fun and obviously loved intereacting with the kids. Other staff were very friendly too. There is a pool bar with large TV, serving food and drinks all day. Prices were quite reasonable, pizza was delicious. We didn't have a problem getting a sunbed, even arriving at the pool at midday - but it wasn't high season. I can see we might have had trouble if it had been any busier. Kids loved the games room. Love Los Cristianos, this is the third time we have been - very family friendly. We always ate at the restaurants down at the beach - a 15 minute walk, food great and good to people watch. All in all a great week and would recommend these apartments.

I have just returned from this hotel after a 5 night break with my wife. On arrival and subsequently, the staff smiled and helped with any queries we had. We were very happy with the apartment. Of course for the price you don't expect 5* luxury, but it was a decent size, spotlessly clean (cleaner comes in 5 of 7 days and makes up beds, mops, etc.). Bedroom was c.10ft square with twin beds which were not the most comfy, but I've had far worse (Haven!). There was a bathroom with bath, excellent shower, toilet and basin. The lounge/kitchen was very comfortable with a pull-out sofa bed (if you're taking the kids) and a decent armchair. TV costs 3 euros per day, which is ok if you know that in advance - I just paid all at once at reception - be careful of channel 25 if the kids are flicking through - hardcore! - but this can be switched off at reception. English channels are limited to BBC News, Sky Sports 1, Movies4Men, and maybe one or two others. But the weather's so good you won't want to sit in for long anyway: just like a hot summer's day in England, so not stifling like Florida where we went last year. There's also a lovely breeze - perfect.
The kitchenette has two electric rings, a normal sized fridge with ice box, microwave, toaster, cutlery, cups and plates/bowls, chopping boards and a sink. So very functional and clean for basic needs (I think some people expect the Ritz for £50 a night!).
The balcony is quite small (for two people rather than four, really), and we had a tree blocking our view of the pool, but it shouldn't spoil your enjoyment too much. This is probably only the case with a handful of rooms, and it's worth it for the ambience round the pool.
The swimming pool in the hotel isn't as big as it seems on the picture, but it's perfectly adequate and was not busy at all when we were there - just three or four people in at most at a time. There's a large patio area with plenty of free sunbeds available for guests. Contrary to a review I read before going, there were no queues for these, and there are signs up saying you cannot reserve them with towels as these will be removed by staff. It was nice to see the lifeguard enjoying playing with the kids at the end of the day - they all seemed big fans and he was laughing with them.
Bar snacks at the pool were very nice (chips, burgers, salad, toasties, etc.), a beer c.3.50 each, I think. We didn't have any food at the hotel other than this, though, so can't comment on dinners, etc.
Round the side of the hotel there is an indoor soft play area for kids, table tennis table and crazy golf. At the pool bar there are two pool tables (1 euro per game).
The hotel is a fifteen minute pleasant amble into beautiful Los Cristianos, but there are several bars catering for the British audience bang opposite the hotel (50 yards), and also if you turn right after 200 yards there are some more.
Los Cristianos itself is lovely, with great cafes and restaurants and a lovely beach (9 euros for two sunbeds with an umbrella for the day). You'll have to turn down watches and sunglasses from the african traders every ten minutes or so as they meander the streets, which is a mild pain, but they're really not pushy and it didn't spoil our enjoyment at all. Indeed, it's the restaurants who hire the waiters to ask you into every one as you walk past who did get on our nerves after a while. Not aggressive, just extremely eager for your custom!
Over all, we had a wonderful time in Los Cristianos and Aguamar was perfect for us as a couple escaping the kids for a few days, but we're thinking of taking them back this summer. It's probably a lot busier then, but where isn't?

We have just got back from a week in the Aguamar, I had read mixed reviews so was not sure what to expect. I went with my husband and two young daughters. It is in a perfect location about 10 - 15 mins from the beach and there are lots of shops and restaurants to choose from. Porkys is nice for breakfast and next door to there is an english bakery which is just fab - if you walk out of the Agumar then turn right you will see a large sign for a supermarket this is where they are. Also if you like chinese 'Seaview' is lovely! really clean and gorgeous food. The hotel staff could not be faulted they were all very helpful and friendly. The life guard was great with the children kept them entertained with games. The rooms were spotless and our towels were changed nearly everyday - the only disapointment was that the roof hot tub was out of order when we was there : ( but apart from that we had a wonderful time and are planning on coming back in 2011.

I spent hours doing research trying to make the right choice, most important requirements were cleanliness, good location to beach, not too noisey but within easy reach of bars, restaurants etc. The Aguarmar Apartments ticked all of these boxes, the only disappointment was the jacuzzi was not working, but the views from the roof terrace were worth a look (everyday). The temperatures for November were lovely, ranging from 22c - 29c, cloudy most of the week but it did'nt spoil our holiday. Great place to escape the winters months! Enjoy :-)

Worst appartment ever!

I just came back from holiday and I think that that this apartment has been one of the worst apartment I ever been in Tenerife. There was no air conditioning (you had to rent a fan an pay 1.50 euro a day), there is no free internet access,in my opinion this a service that should be free (they offer a wifi service for 20 euros a week or if you don't have a laptop with you (the charge is 1 euro for every 10 min). Also, every time that I went to my room. there was a sewage smell and also I have have to pay for seeing the tv at night, 1.50 euro a day! I couldn't neither sleep at night ,was impossible!, the walls in this apartment where like paper walls!!! I could hear my neighbor snoring every night and every movement he did around the room and also there was the traffic noise at the side of the hotel and the noise of people shouting and screaming on the side of the road and finally don't you there to ring home from the hotel. I paid 39 euros for a 20 min conversation (the best think is to buy one of these international phone cards that you can talk as much as you live for very low price or use the Skype. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday don't book this hotel! I am not a person that normally complains but I thought that I should make aware any person that is traveling there soon...I am currently living in Ireland and I was looking forward to a nice sunny and relaxing holiday but this time I only got the sun! Next time I will go to the same place I had been going in the last 3 times, the name of the hotel is "REVERON PLAZA HOTEL" in the center of los Cristianos (this time I was not able to book this one because was full given the excellence of their service: free complimentary cava glasses on the arrival, free air conditioning, free wifi, free snack at lunch time on the top roof pool, beauty and massage service on the service on the same hotel ( I had several treatments there and was fantastic, the treatments where very affordable compared to the Irish prices... If you are planning a holidays follow my advise and don't book this hotel.
