Never again

Oct 2010, dissatisfied

We have just got back from a week at this hotel. When we arrived we were told there was no reservation for us but they soon sorted that, then we were told the hotel would be closing down on the 10th we were not due to leave while the 11th along with another couple that had been there a week already and had not been told.Next was the food becouse they were closing at the end of the week it seemed as if they had got all the left overs and tried to make something not good at all, then they started running out of juice an dmixers for the drinks and did not make any attempt to get some.On the evening before we left we had to go next door to get our evening meal then return to our hotel for the drinks which i might had they didnt have. This is not the first time we have been to gumbet it was the 5th and last time, i can honestly say this was the worst hotel ever. NEVER AGAIN.

this was a great wee set of apartments two minutes from the beach where there is a range of bars and can take a leisurely 10 minute stroll to the main street area. They are situated on a quiet street but its worth them being there as you can get a good nights sleep. The apartments were spotless and the staff were very friendly. Great lagoon pool area and they have entertainment on most nights...if you dont feel like heading out for a wild night on the tiles! This was my first visit to turkey and i definitely would return. i would recommend these apartments to anyone 10/10!!!

Just got back from a fab fortnight in...

Just got back from a fab fortnight in Gumbet. Been to Turkey loads of times and boy has Gumbet changed since I was last there, albeit quite a few years ago.
Basically everything you read well about the Ayaz Aqua is true. Reception staff, JD and Ahmet the bar guys are very friendly, the cleaners always very polite as well. Rooms cleaned everyday to a good standard. The pool area is fantastic, whatta pool.
The bar and eating area all lead onto the pool and the food is very well priced considering its hotel / bar food, cheaper than some of the food places in Gumbet.
Sunbeds galore, comfy ones at that. Most nights in the bar they seem to have some sort of entertainment on, BBQ, Turkish Night, welcome party night, even make a special night for the football....wooooo hooooo!! (no pressure if you don't want to attend).
Turn right outside reception, 2 mins, and your standing on the beach with all the water sports and sunbeds and loads of great restaurants. Turn left about 10 mins slow walk you are entering the Restaurants, shops and many bars Gumbet has to offer. Planet Yucca, The Mandarin are a couple you will come to first and they are both great. Further into Gumbet there in a restaurant called the “Mirradon"....Brilliant.
To be honest we ate out every night and tried loads of restaurants and I can honestly say that I was not disappointed with hardly any meals I had. Full English breakfast for a quid, beat that, although just ask what they class as a quid, I say its roughly 2.50 lira; they seem to think 3.00 Liras a quid, (Pennies difference TBH). The nightlife in Gumbet is manic, mad Turkish men trying their best to drag you into their bars, Turkish lads dancing on tables without their tops trying to draw you in, more like scare me off...lol. Plenty of happy hours everywhere......Buy one Get on free.
Walking around just trying to look at things, menus, shops, prices etc is very hard especially when every time you stop they seem to jump out and accost you, bit of a pain all the hassle you get, makes it hard work just to go for a walk. You think they would learn that if they just left you alone, you would come into their shop and have a look around.
Bus stop about 2 mins from reception, 1.70 Lira gets you anywhere in Gumbet and right into Bodrum, bear in mind 2.50 lira = £ 1.00, cheap as chips, you gotta get the bus ( Dolmus) just for the experience, BTW dolmus is Turkish for "Stuffed", I will let you work that on out for yourselves.
Altogether a really good holiday.
Righto, here come the gripes. We did go self catering purely because I wanted a fridge in the room to keep basics like Beer and water cool, this was fine, but if you had a family and had planned to do a lot of cooking, good look. Very....and I mean very minimum self catering equipment, no cooker as such, just a portable electric ring which you plug in, one frying pan, one normal pan and couple of plates and cups and a bit of cutlery, thank god we like to eat out.
Also as someone has mentioned, you do have to pay for the Aircon if you want it. roughly about £ 24.00 a week, but the Aircon was good, new units I think. Also as with most hotels, you have to pay for you safety deposit box which is located next to reception, need your key and their key to access the box, about £ 10.00 a week for that, so make sure you budget for these extras in you spends.

I just recently stayed in these apartments and found them to be very well located and clean. Room service was offered every day and the rooms were comfortable.
Most of the staff were friendly and accommodating.

Me and my mate Sam have just spent two weeks in Gumbet. The night life is brilliant, Central bar, X-bar and Mistery are the places to go! Dancing on the bar is fun and you often get a free drink. All the staff are so friendly, it does help if you're a blonde British girl though! I would recommend the Gesi restaurant, we ate their 5 times in the 2 weeks, it has live music every night!
Ayaz Aqau is wicked, its really lively, so friendly, a few good looking waiters! Everyone has to mention JD and Armet, they are great! They will get you in the pool, clothes and all, but make sure you dunk them in to. Happy hour is always good, buy one get one free!! Oh Jesus! Its a great atmosphere and really relaxed. Perfect place for a holiday, the beach is just down the road!
I'd like to thank all of them, especially JD and Armet for an immense holiday that I will never forget! :) xXx

Jul 2007, Mr John Robertson

My girlfriend and I stayed for a week during late-June/early-July 2007. Overall, the place gets a thumbs-up but beware of some small downsides too.
First, the positives. As far as 3 star accommodation goes, Ayaz Aqua cannot be beaten. The rooms, which are changed daily, are clean and fresh, the hotel’s location is only a few metres from the beach and around 15 minutes walk from Gumbet centre.
The food was ok, not great, but once again this is 3 star – don’t expect to see Gordon Ramsay. By far, though, the hotel’s biggest asset was the staff. Exceptionally respectful and pleasant, they were fabulous people.
Now the downside. On arrival, you will pay extra for air conditioning and a safety-deposit box. Nothing too surprising you might say but at 85 Turkish Lira (£35) for a week we thought this was on the expensive side of fair value.
The main downside consisted of the in-house entertainment. Prepare for a Turkish night and a BBQ night both of which start well, but descend into a total farce. Safe to say when JD takes the microphone to do his “games” its time to leave.

I am just back from a week staying at these apartments and I have to say I cannot fault them.
The rooms in the apartments are lovely and spacious and kept very clean by the hard working staff.
The staff that run the hotel cannot do enough for you and are such a friendly bunch. The bar staff Ahmet and JD are brilliant, and as JD would say I loved you more than my shoes!!
The pool at the hotel is amazing; you will be hard pushed to find a better pool in Gumbet.
Again the pool side area is always being kept clean by the staff and there are plenty of comfy sun loungers to be had. I will not hesitate to return to these apartments when I return one day to Gumbet.
Thanks guys for making our holiday so fantastic.

I have just spent 2 fantastic weeks at Ayaz Aqua in Gumbet, Turkey. I didn’t want to come home.
All the staff are fantastic. JD the barman is just so funny and made the holiday. The rooms are very clean and well maintained.
The management couldn’t be more helpful and nothing was too much trouble.

I highly recommend this hotel. I will definitely be going back.

Jul 2006, Miss S Iravani

This is a fab place to go if you're looking for a chill-out holiday with a bit of a night-life! Me and my mate had a brill time relaxing by the pool everyday along with the super-friendly staff (who tend to be determined to get each and everyone in the pool everyday!).
The apartments were lovely and clean, along with the place itself being really cheap for food etc! The only downfall is the hassle you get from shopkeepers, restaurants and bar staff - so be prepared!
The main street where you find most of the bars is literally a 10min walk from the apartments. I recommend Mystery, X-bar and Shakers for a good laugh!
Overall this place offered everything we could want in a holiday!

Jul 2006, Miss Stephanie Garbutt

Me & my friend soph had a brilliant holiday. Thanks to JD and Ahmet for the entertainment and singing and dancing haha! (JD). Happy hour in the hotel for two hours. Buy one you get one free. Turkish night, BBQ night and Bar street is definitely the place to go if you like having a dance and drinking lots of cocktails. The free shots are to get you into the bars. Its a good laff!
Be careful when sun bathing in Ayaz Aqua especially if you sunbathe near to the bar, because JD and Ahmet are likely to throw you in, although Ahmet wasn’t successful with me and I ended up getting him in the pool instead! The restaurants around by the hotel are all decent prices. Recommend planet yucca, mandarin, nacho nanas, snow white restaurants. Also the hotel food is pretty reasonable.
Thanks guys for a fab holiday. Will hopefully be returning in September! Xx

Jun 2006, Miss E Baker

Me and my boyfriend have just got back from Turkey and I can definitely say that this was the best holiday we have ever had! In fact we have already booked to go back in October!
This hotel is absolutely brilliant, the best one by far that I have ever stayed in! The pool is amazing and very big, the rooms are always clean and all the food and drink within the hotel is quite cheap!
It has to be said however that it is the staff that make this place what it is! They are all really friendly and always on hand to offer help and advice if you ever have a problem! They really do strive to ensure that every aspect of your holiday is truly enjoyable and I can guarantee that you will miss them once you have gone home!
Gumbet itself is a very nice place. There are loads of places to eat, shops, bars and clubs all within 10 minutes walking distance from the hotel. The beach, which is less then 2 minutes away, is very long and offers various water sports for all ages. The only disadvantage about Gumbet is that you do get some hassle from certain restaurants, but if you are polite and just say 'no thanks' they usually leave you alone!
Finally anyone who visits Gumbet must eat at the 'Madarin' restaurant. It's only small but it's definitely the best place to go for a nice meal. They have a great variety of food which is always lovely and very cheap and the staff are superb!
