We had a fabulous holiday in Portugal this year.
The apartment we booked was done independently; we booked flights and then booked the apartment via owners direct. It was easy and a lot expensive doing this way.
The apartment was fantastic, all the home comforts you could wish for. It was bright and extremely clean, the bedding and towels were included, and this was a god send with 3 small children.
The sun terrace was excellent, we BBQ’d several nights and enjoyed the evening in, watched a DVD and the children had TV's in their rooms, so it couldn't have been easier.
The local supermarket was packed with fresh produce and the butchers section was brilliant, they were so helpful too.
The Honorio bar was run by a super chap, his English was better than ours. Nothing was too much trouble and the pool area was stunning. It was child friendly, clean and the bar area did snacks and food if you wanted it.
The local area was great, we wandered into Vilamoura several times and ventured down to Quateria; both were in walking distance, although the local taxis were only 4 Euros a trip.
There was a little train that ran on the hour, it collected you from the Honorio entrance and drove you down to the beach.
Not being a beach kind of family we only did this once, but it was a great idea and so easy to catch.
The water park was about 5 minutes drive from the apartment; this is definitely worth a visit. It is a full day out and not badly priced, the children loved it.
We will definitely be going again, we found the whole holiday very enjoyable. It would also be great for anyone wanting to play golf out there. It is in the golden triangle of golf courses.
A highly recommended destination for all who want a relaxing, hassle free holiday.

I got this break as a discounted holiday from the web. And what a surprise I had in store. Having never booked a holiday from the web before, I was a little bit apprehensive as to the sort and location of my accommodation. I have to say that the whole thing went swimmingly. The accommodation was better than basic, but not luxurious. The apartment was a two bedroom affair, with a moderately equipped kitchen. The bathroom had all the usual features including a bidet, there was also a separate extra toilet with sink. The balcony was massive and a nice extra touch was the built in barbeque. Lawns surrounded the pool and the whole area fenced off, you had to show a pool pass to get in to the pool area, which kept it pretty much exclusive. The onsite bar and restaurant was run by two of the nicest blokes you could ever wish to meet, their English was flawless, so much so in fact that they could use all the right slang words in all the right places. The cost of food and drink onsite was fairly reasonable.
Outside the complex the main area for shopping and bars was only a five minute walk away. The local supermarket was well stocked with all the essentials for a Brit abroad. The only drawback of the Honorio was that it was a 20-25 minute walk to the beach, but as we are not really a beach loving family this was not a problem for us. The real High light of our time there was a jeep safari in to the mountains of the Algarve. I would recommend that anyone that has not done this experience it for yourselves the next time you go. The price was OK, plus lunch at a restaurant is included in the price. Lunch on that day was a 3 course meal of local produce and all the local wine you could drink. Also another must see is the bone church in not far away Faro. It is built entirely out of the bones of monks and nuns. It is fascinating. So would I do it again? The answer to that is yes.

Privately rented a 2 bed first floor apartment directly from an English owner. The apartment was fantastic; it was like home from home. It had just recently refurbished and even had sky TV. The complex itself is neat and tidy. It has a large swimming pool in a large gardened area which is fenced off and has a gate. The bar area was very quiet when we were there and it was mostly Portuguese families there on holiday.
There are a few good eating places in the area (Carlas and the Piri Piri Chicken restaurant). These were very reasonably priced 50 euros for family of four. The restaurants are a lot more expensive in Vilamoura. The beach is a good 15min walk away down through the village and past the church where the storks nest on the spire. There is a mini train but it was not very reliable. The waterpark is 5 euros away in a taxi and was well priced and good fun. We can honestly say we had a great holiday and would return.
