Bo Phut Hotel Reviews

Jun 2007, Mr G Allen

This "boutique" hotel, as the Thai's call it, was excellent. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The rooms were huge, with 2 queen size beds. The restaurant was very good and the grounds were immaculate. The hotel is set right on Bo Phut beach and is within easy... more

A secret Gem in Samui
My husband and I chose Bo Phut for our honeymoon and had an amazing 10 nights there, you have the best of both worlds. The resort is small and intimate with the staff bending over backwards to help you. Live entertainment both on the beach for candlelit BBQ twice a week or in the Thai resturant with traditional Thai dancers. Cheweng is about 10 mins taxi away for about 200bts loads of resturants, clubs, pubs, markets and very lively. I would highly recommend Zicos, a brazillian all you can eat BBQ resturant which was incredible value and again live dancing..... Bo Phut is a must, it is quiet and very luxurious a real treat. Child friendly and the amenities are second to none, I cant actually find anything to fault it. We had a Garden villa which was beautiful but also saw one of the standard rooms in the hotel and again the standard was incredibly high!!! ENJOY!!
Friendly and welcoming Bo Phut Resort
Just back from 11 nights at the Bo Phut Resort and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. Described as a boutique hotel, it certainly had a more intimate feel than larger chain hotels. Set in Bo Phut on the northern coast of the island, the hotel is on the beachfront with other hotels either side. However, with the lush gardens and garden villas you'd be forgiven for thinking you were a world away from anything else. We stayed in a garden villa, which was lovely - 4 poster bed and the biggest bathroom I've ever seen. Hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful, and the spa is wonderful. The hotels two restaurants are very good, one serving solely Thai food, the other a mediterranean/fusion style. There are plenty of restaurants at Fishermans village to try, a few hundred yards further along the beach - Italian, Indian, Thai, Fusion. Chaweng can be reached by 20min taxi ride (around £6 each way). We didn't rate Chaweng much, we're glad we chose to stay in Bo Phut.
Peace and Tranquility
We stayed at this hotel on our honeymoon. The room we booked was a deluxe jacuzzi room which was smaller than the room we had stayed in when we went to Bangkok. However, the hotel was lovely! The jacuzzi was a whirlpool bath that could just about fit two people in it located on the balcony. There was a free library of DVDs and two lovely restaurants. As we were on honeymoon, we were decorated with flowers on arrival, and staff brought up a free happy honeymoon cake, a bottle of wine and daily plate of fruit. The hotel is located right on the beach but it is not a traditional white sandy beach, it is made of tiny yellow stones which hurt my feet a bit at times. This however, assures that the resort remains a quieter place, apart from people trying to sell you jewellery tablecloths and donuts! The staff clean in the morning and then come back in the evening to turn down the bed and light aromatherapy oil in the bathroom. The staff always asked about our day/evening and were extremely polite courteous and friendly in every instance. They even woke us up when we overslept for our transport to the airport, and packed us a breakfast for the journey! We also used the spa, and had a special offer package that includes an aromatherapy steam (don't do it, I couldn't breathe) and a traditional thai massage which made me a bit achy but was nevertheless very relaxing as we had it done as a couple and it is accompanied by aromatherapy and thai music. There is a fishermans village down the road (called Bo Phut) which can be accessed by the beach (quicker but I had sore ankles), or by the main road. This is definitely worth doing! The hotel prices were extortionate for food and drinks etc, but the fishing village was much more reasonable (as long as you went to the right place.) The cheaper restaurants are easy to spot as they have plastic tables and chairs and have the thai condiments caddy (4 pots, one looks like salt, one dark oil with chilli, one light oil with chilli and chilli flakes) on the tables. The difference between the thai and tourists restaurants was vast. An average of £5 for a two course meal for two with drinks compared with £15-20 for the same thing in a tourist restaurant or even £30-40 in the hotel. The meals were nicer as well, especially if you like spicy food. We visited popular Chaweng twice, and were so glad we didn't stay there! Crowds of people, seedy nightlife and off all things a MacDonalds, Starbucks and Pizza Hut! Lots of shops and things though. Cost about £4 for a taxi there (and I think we were paying over the odds as you have to barter.) Overall this hotel was fantastic. The staff kept asking if we'd be back next year and if only I had the money to fly back there, I definitely would be
A Different World To Chewang - Thank Goodness!
We were delighted with our choice of hotel and location, a decision made once again after consulting trusty TripAdvisor! Having been to Phuket & Krabi in recent years we were well aware of the rapid rate of development taking place on the Thai beaches, a fact that thankfully put us off staying in Chewang. On arrival (10 mins / 350Baht in a taxi from the airport) we were welcomed with cold face towels and juice. Check-in was smooth and we were quickly shown to our room on the 1st floor of the main building. The pictures on their website are very realistic and we were delighted with the size and quality of the accommodation, everything seemed virtually brand new. The through-window to the bathroom helped create a sense of even more space, and a large & private balcony offered a nice spot to enjoy a beer before heading out. The rooms are really well equipped with CD/DVD players (free DVD library available at reception), separate (huge) shower and bath, very comfortable beds and gowns/slippers etc. The nightly turndown service was appreciated, a good supply of fresh towels always evident. The pool was peaceful & perfect, it never seemed crowded - although if we got down there much after midday it meant opting for the beds on the beach. The beach itself, as others have said, is made of slightly coarse sand that can become uncomfortable & hot to walk on. Yes the sea isn't crystal clear, and maybe that would be a bit of a disappointment if you are looking for 'picture postcard perfect' - but don't let that put you off staying at Bo Phut! The 'Fishermans Village' is around 10 mins walk away (either along the beach or the road - cut down the little lane just after the Anantara Hotel) where there are around 20 places to eat or drink. Alternatively you can eat at the hotel, or neighbouring hotels that front onto the beach too. Compare all of this to staying in Chewang, and it seems like a million miles away. Chewang Beach offers the white sand & blue seas, but there you'll also have to put up with the huge crowds of 'typical' beer swilling holiday makers. For us from the UK, Chewang could have been on the Costas in Spain (why bother with the 11 hour flight?), it is basically a mile long stip of Burger Kings, McDonalds, Starbucks & Irish bars. We went there on our second night and were so happy to be able to return to Bo Phut, and the peaceful serenity of the Bo Phut Resort & Spa.
Great Hotel - Very Chilled Out
A great little hotel with excellent accommodation and superb staff. Just had 14 fantastic nights at this beautiful resort on the super chilled island of Samui. Everything is just right, from the qualty and sumptuous rooms to the extremely friendly and helpful staff. Recommend the following restaurants: Tong Chai - basic reatuarant on edge of the fishermans village - very friendly and authentic with great food at amazing prices. Sala Thai - within the resort with great food and location - more expensive than many of the restaurants but worth the treat. The Shack - great bbq'd steaks and seafood with a busy jazz vibe. Agree with the comments on the colour of the sea in this area but dont let this put you off. Highly recommended Dont forget to chill out with a Singha overlooking the ocean as the sun sets.
All good things come in small packages :)
All good things come in small packages Bo Phut Resort is the place if you are looking for a lot of relaxation. This really does sum up my recent holiday with my boyfriend staying at the Bo Phut. I booked the holiday after researching the reviews on trip advisor and was so pleased with how accurate the reviews had been. We had a ground floor deluxe balcony room that opened onto a small terrace with a pond that was part of the gardens. We were really pleased with the room, it was so clean, with white bedding and accessorised with a thai theme. The special touches such as fresh flowers from the gardens, the turn down service nightly and the dvd player also added to the ambience. We used the room service for breakfast and actually preferred this to going to the main L'Ocean restaurant. We could eat this on our terrace and choose exactly what we wanted. All the staff are very accomodating and so polite. We tried the Sala Thai restaurant. The food was very good and not too over priced. The sound of the water and the traditional thai music makes the evening intimate. The beach at the Bo Phut is a stretch of dark sand that gets very hot in the day! It wasn’t quite what we imagined and we ventured into the sea once but was put off by not being able to see the bottom and treading on something furry! The pool at the hotel was a good size to accommodate the guests and there were staff on hand to order drinks etc. In summary, the hotel is small but perfectly formed and is perfect for couples and honeymooners looking to get away from it all. One big advantage of staying at the Bo Phut is that Fishermans village is only 15 mins walk along the beach. We tried the "Starfish & Coffee" and "the Shack" for food and both restaurants were excellent value for money, full of atmosphere with friendly staff. We spent most evenings after our meal in the Billabong Aussie bar as there is live music most nights. In the village we also bought – 4 suits and about 13 shirts and paid in total just over £500 from the Armani shop. As long as you are really specific with your requirements – either take a picture or a suit you have already, they can turn round a suit in 24 hours! We took a couple of trips - one where we hired a driver to take us around Koh Samui for half a day. This was through the hotel and cost about 700 baht each. It was good to see other parts of the island such as the Big Budda and some of the beaches but I am sure you could have more fun and do this cheaper on a moped or by hiring a car (we just weren't brave enough). The other trip I would highly recommend is if you do want to see some unspoilt paradise. You travel by speed boat which seats about 50 people! To warn you the journey is about an hour and a half (take a book for this) but when you get there - beautiful white velvet sand, clear water, tropical fish, and live coral - this was at Koh Tao.
Very relaxing, great loacation
I stayed here recently for 8 nights. its a lovely hotel, great location on the beach, the staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help. We stayed with 2 small children and they couldnt have been more helpful = pool staff, reception and restaurant Mix of guests - mainly english, german and russian. Honeyymooners, couples and families. There is a small pool which is great for toddlers. No playground but the hotel next door (peace) has one which we used a couple of times. I spoke to someone staying at the anantara which is next door but one - there is only one large pool which isnt so good for kids. We had breakfast here everyday - buffet for 450 baht - its very nice. There are two thai shows on here every week, and the thursday evening thai dancing is recommended by the pool. The spa here is also very nice if you fancy a splurge. The beach is the only downside - very very coasre sand and the sea, although lovely and warm, is very murky in its color. Its not what you expect to see in thailand. The fishermans village at bo phut is a great place to spend your evening - it has some lovely restaurants, shops and bars, massage places. Recommended highly is 'starfish and coffee' restarant - its very popular for a seat on the terrace overlooking the sea - you can book a table in adavnce -and its very cheap. we also ate at the shack which does great steaks and seafood, happy elephant and a restaurant at the start of the village - just before the big 'fishermans village' sign on the left, i think its called tong chai - its all outside, serves great very very cheap thai food and is highly recommended by all the local thais. It was too hot to do very much in samui - we hired a car for the day and went into chaweng (which is very built up), to tescos (for baby food! - and it also is good to stock up on water, kids clothes etc and the to big buddha beach. Other people in the hotel had been on the mountain safari and recommended that. Glad with my choice of both resort and hotel
Best small hotel we've stayed in
We've just returned from 15 days in Thailand, 10 of which we spent at this excellent hotel. This was actually our honeymoon, so we wanted something a little bit out of the ordinary, and chose this place based on reviews in Tripadvisor. From the moment we were picked up at the airport until we left, everything (almost) was perfect - the room, the service, location, etc. We chose an ocean view room with jacuzzi on the balcony. On check-in the lady asked us if we wanted to upgrade to a Garden View Villa, but I don't think they're worth the extra. Our room was great, spacious, spotlessly clean, large balcony, and with everything we needed. The view from the jacuzzi was great, straight down the gardens, over the pool and out to sea and Koh Phangan. The hotel facilities are excellent. The pool, restaurants, small gym, and spa are all top notch, bearing in mind there is only around 70 rooms on the place. Free to borrow books, CDs and DVDs are a nice touch as well as free internet access, and fre daily newspaper if you need to keep in touch. One of the best evening meals we had on the island was in the hotel's Sala Thai restaurant, which is quiet, partly open air overlooking a lily pond with traditional Thai live music to accompany the great food. Some people say the hotel prices are expensive, but compared to UK, USA and other places they are still very good value. If you come from a place thats cheap to live in, it might seem expensive in Bo Phut, but it's well worth it. It seems most guests come from Europe anyway, so son't wory about the prices. High points - special touches for honeymooners, the spa, the room, and the service which was flawless - low key, but on the ball. Low points - none really, but the beach itself is not the white powdery sand you get in Chaweng, and the water is a bit murky, but they're still fine. The location is right if you want a quieter place away from the mayhem of Chaweng, but close enough for evening forays into town for entertainment etc. Fisherman's Village has a great selection of resturants and bars and is a an easy enough stroll from the hotel. Try Starfish and Coffee, 56, The Frog and Gecko, and Shades amongst others. To the west of the hotel along the beach is Zazen, a fantastic place for a romantic meal at the water's edge. We hired a car for a few days from just outside the hotel - turn right outside of the hotel entrance, and you'll find J&K (I think) which does all sorts of travel related stuff, just a few yards up the road. 800baht will get you a Suzuki Jeep for a day. One thing - if you're looking to get to know Thailand and the people, Samui's not really the place. It's too developed, and the only Thais you'll meet will be working in the hotels, restaurants etc. Having said that, we had the best holiday we've ever had, in no small part due to our choice of hotel. Enjoy!
Beautiful hotel - shame about the view
Pros: Superb location: near to airport, gorgeous Fisherman's Village within walking distance and inexpensive beachside bars and restaurants serving delicious Thai food right next door (Cactus was v.good). The rooms were sumptuous with wonderful boutique-styling that managed to feel authentically Thai while being high-tech. All the communal areas - reception, spa, gardens and pool - were stunning. One major flaw, however, that I know other reviewers have picked up on - the views from the rooms are really disappointing - we reserved an Ocean View but on arrival found we'd been allocated a Garden View Room. Frustratingly, the staff did nothing to rectify this. The Garden Room overlooked over the staff entrance and rooftops of the villas below (as did all those in our wing)- the beautiful gardens were barely in sight - let alone alone the sea that we were hoping for. We were offered an Ocean Villa as an expensive upgrade but when we looked around the villa it was clear you'd have no privacy as it opened straight on to the communal areas - in fact, you couldn't even see much of the sea! Because of the hotel's narrow outlook on the beach, this seemed to be true of most of the rooms. Samui is so gorgeous that you'll be spending little time inside, but when it rains and when you've paid for a 5* beach front location, you hope would hope to see a little of it from the comfort of your room. Shame, because everything else was so impressive. Make double sure you know exactly what view you're getting when you book!
Fantastic Experience ! You cannot have it better
Myself and girlfriend just returned 10 days ago from 2 weeks stay at the Bo Phut resort for our holidays. We would like to thank everybody for the oustanding customer service. We found all the staff in the hotel to be friendly, polite and professional, faultless. The room was kept spotless, as with the whole of the hotel, the hotel is beautiful and deserves 5 star rating (one of the highest value for money we have ever experienced even in Asia!). Breakfast is superb, nothing is missing. We have tried both the Thai and Mediterranean restaurants and here as well we have experienced great value for money, it is not worth to go outside of the hotel for your lunches or dinner. The service is very good and the only thing you have to do yourself is to eat and enjoy. The SPA in the hotel is also excellent and the girls (above all of them Pia and Nam) are great! We have read a lot of review that the services in the hotel are expensive (i.e. restaurant, spa), please remember that quality is expensive and the value you get in return is definitevely worth to pay a bit more. When we will return to Koh Samui we will have no hesitation in staying at this hotel again, a fantastic experience, and a big thank you to all who made our stay and holidays memorable
