Katathani Beach Resort Hotel

Fantastic hotel. I went with my girlfriend and we are aged around 27. We stayed here for 14 nights, and even though the weather was not great (3 days without rain somewhere in the day!) we realy enjoyed ourselves. We stayed in the standard room which was fitted out very well, good air con, nice wooden finish, fresh flowers, very large comfortable bed. After reading strong reviews about the resort in several guide books, I booked two nights here for a recent vacation. Don't believe the guidebooks. I felt like I was in a bad 1970s movie. The rooms were dark and smelled of mildew and looked like they were part of a college dorm. The food at the resort was terrible--the $5 "fresh" juices tasted like they had been made from concentrate or were mixed with Tang and there were flies and other bugs all over the "deluxe" breakfast buffet. Stayed at the Katathani as part of my honeymoon trip. It is a beautiful placed. Unfortunately, the air con system was down for about 6 hours as the area suffered from a power shortage, hence the rooms were a bit stuffy then. Understand this was out of the hotel's hands. However, the staff was friendly, and gave us a honeymoon surprise when they found out I was on honeymoon. Beach is pleasant although the rough seas then meant one could not swim much in it. Overall, a pleasant trip.

I stayed here in here recently for 4 nights with some friends. We all loved the hotel. We stayed in Junior Suites which are ideally situated all with sea views, the rooms are very spacious and nicely decorated with a large bathroom. Whilst we were staying we did have a problem with one room having leaking water from the air connditioning unit but this was sorting out straight away and the staff were very efficient dealing with the problem. Stayed here for 7 nights in Nov 05. I would agree with some of the reviews that say it is no more than a 4 star hotel, and if you want real 5 star luxury and relaxation, this is not the place, but for a good value holiday if you don't mind staying in a large resort, this is a good choice. Good stuff: - The beach, clean and not that busy. We booked one night at Katathani. we drove from Pimalai (in Koh Lanta) to Phuket. Since we never went there before so we didn't drive fast plus it was a night time ( almost 9 pm). There was one car behind us and that car couldn't pass us since it was only a 2 lane road so the driver kept beeping and had his high beams flashing. 2 minutes later we reached the hotel and also that car too which we knew later it was a taxi. he drove there to drop his passengers. We stayed at the Katathani hotel in April 2005 for our honeymoon and it was a perfect location. As mentioned in other reviews the hotel does not give much away from the road but when you step inside to the large Thai style reception which is beautifully decorated and air conditioned you know you are in for something very special. I booked 4 nights at this resort beginning on 19 Aug after getting a thumbs up from a friend who had just returned from Phuket and stayed here. While the staff is attentive they sometimes seem understaffed and it was not even busy. You'll find there is a lot of construction going on around the hotel. To the south it appears the hotel is expanding and is blocked off so you can't go beyond the spa house and to the north, on the other side of the street, it appears there are some condos going up next to the tennis courts. We stayed at the Kata Thani for a week from the 6th August and had a truly fantastic holiday. The staff are friendly, helpful and courteous. The hotel is well appointed right on the beach so (as far as I could tell) all rooms had a sea view and the rooms are large, bright, airy and nicely furnished. We only ate in the hotel a couple of times and the food was very good, but if you prefer to go out and explore there are plenty of excellent and reasonable restaurants in Kata or in Patong which is about 15 mins away by tuk tuk.
