3rd visit and once again thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Yes we are planning to go back. We met some great people and had a wonderful holiday. The hotel itself is set back from a main road, however there is a service road and trees in between so traffic noise is kept down. To get access to the resort you go under the road through a well lit passage. The resort is a short walk and there are short cuts for the less able.
The Hotel is laid out in a series of blocks with beautifully kept gardens in between, really worth a walk round. The blocks are well kept by the maids and Alexis the gardener/handyman is forever touching up the paintwork. Rooms are simple with all that is required, ie fridge and Air con (Free)
The restuarant is in the main building along with reception and a lounge, TV room and verandah. Drinks can be ordered adn brought to you there if you so wish.
By far the greatest asset of this Hotel is the management and staff. Service is great, and everyone is genuinely pleased to see you and always have a smile and time to chat with you no matter whjat they are doing.
Crete itself is a beautiful Island with plenty to do for a fortnights stay. We will be going back for a fourth time, and we still have not visited everything. A trip to Spinalonga and Knossos is a must. Heraklion is an interesting city.
You will not be disappointed if you choose to come hear.

We have just returned from a 2 week stay at The Anastasia Hotel Stalis and we had a brilliant holiday. We stayed on a Half Board basis. This is the third time we have been to this hotel and it certainly lived up to everything we expected. Most guests were also like us, on their third or fourth visit here, which speaks volumes for the place. There were even some guests on their tenth visit.
This family run premises is set in beautifully mentained gardens a short walk from many beautiful beaches, and not too far from the centre of Stalis town.
The Owner / Manager Mike (The Greek)..is a man with the personal touch for everyone. He and his wife are the most helpfull people we have ever met. Hotel managers from other hotels should come here to learn from Mike. While we stayed there many people had birthdays and Mike always had a cake for each one..young and old. He also arranged food for incoming guests who had arrived in very late (After Mid-night) due to flights been delayed.
Nice one Mike.
We have been to many hotels around the world and The Anastasia rates right up with very best, but at a fraction of the price. The place is spotless clean from the rooms, to the dining area, to the Three swiming pools, and bar / toilets.
The food here is exelent. Plenty of varity from Greek food to Continental to English / Irish. An exelent lunch is also available during the day at very reasonable rates..Around 6 euro.
ALL the staff at this hotel are extreamly helpfull and friendly. Nothing appeared to be too much to ask of them.
Most nights had entertainment laid on... The Greek night is one to remember and all free of charge which is exelent for families.
The place does what it says in the brochure and much more. I can not understand why it does not have a higher star rating.
Finally...The only down side...Unfortunatly we had to leave for home. We will definatly be back again to this jewel of Crete.

Review before we go!

This may seem strange writing a reveiw before you have been but we have stayed at this hotel 3 years running and it was brilliant every time (hence the return) Unfortunately we couldn't afford a holiday last year (due to daughter's wedding!) but this year we have booked to go to the Anastasia. Why? Because it is comfortable, spotless, friendly, welcoming and feels like home from home. We went with our daughter and grandson in 2007 and they were hooked. My grandson who is 7 still talks of his holiday! Our daughter is saving up so she can come with us when we go (again) next year!
The location is not brilliant, but all we want from a holiday is sun, good food, comfortable accommodation and be able to relax and have some fun. This hotel covers all of the above. On top of which the staff make you feel special, Michael & Billy join in the fun and their families are delightful. What more do you need?

Terrific Hotel

We had a great holiday last September in this Hotel. You are treated as a member of the family and not just a guest. The Hotel is kept spotless and the grounds are really lovely.
We read all the reviews before booking and were not disappointed when we arrived. The staff are first class and make you very welcome.
We enjoyed our stay so much we have booked to go back again in 2009. The hotel is ideally placed for a visit into stalis or into malia. There is a bus stop to travel in either direction to Aghios Nikolas or Heraklion. the busus are air consitioned and reasonably priced.
taking of price, this hotel is excellent value for money, aspecially in the current economic climate. You will NOT find a better deal, offering the same standard anywhere.

  • Holiday Date:Sep 2008
  • Advice: Stalis is a very good resort and the people are genuinely friendly, not like you may find in Spain .

My sister in law and I have just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel. We had a lovely relaxing time, met some great people in a brilliant hotel. Nothing is to much trouble for the staff here, all staff work hard to ensure you have a great time from the manager down. We would recomend this hotel to anyone.
We did not have a clothes dryer asked at reception and it was delivered within an hour, same with towels delivered before I returned to the room.
The resort is close by and we used the Happy Train to visit Malia and Heronisis. We also went up the mountains on it to a small village. a great opportunity to see how the locals live. Don't sit in the front seats though as not much leg room!
Back to Anastasia as my sister in law had a bad back we could not get out of the hotel for the first week, but Jonny provided us with various entertainment. Greek nights were great but karaoke the best both nights with manager Mikelas the star.
Thanks for a great time from your lovely ladies.

Returned yesterday from the best holiday we have had in a long time. There were 6 of us in total 2 children 12 & 6. The hotel itself is set in lovely gardens with 2 well sized pools. Even though our 1st week there the hotel was very busy we still managed to get sunbeds everyday. The food was exceptional, a good choice and even my picky husband found something he enjoyed every night. The manager and the staff are absolutely brilliant. They make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. (special mention to Maria and Tony) The staff work so hard but still have the time for a chat and a joke. We had a few nights out of the hotel and visited the Rose & Crown on a few occasions always finishing the night off with a slammer or 3 with Manos. Reccomend a day at Aqua plus water park. We had a great time and the kids had a ball. Also spent a few days on the beach which is gorgeous but would beware with very young children as sea can get quite choppy. I would recomend this hotel to anyone and look forward to returning (hopefully nxt year)

Just got back from another fantastic...

Aug 2008, Other Lord&Lady Radley

Just got back from another fantastic holiday at the Anastasia, this was our 5th visit and it is always a pleasure to stay there. Once again Mike and his staff were on form attending to our every need, Manolis 1 and 2 (don't go Manolis!!), Manos, Kostas, Maria, Tony and the rest, thanks to you all. The food was just as good as all the other years, entertainment was fine and the beer watered down just enough! (just kidding). The hotel is situated close to all the nightlife in Stalis, for the fit ones Malia is not far away. When you go down the hill to the town, stop at the bar on the corner, Angelos' bar, and tell them Stefanos says hello and he will give you a free drink. Don't forget Mike, Free Beer Tomorrow!! One tiny little complaint from us, now that those ******* at Thomas Cook have taken over, they managed to cock up our room allocation denying us our seaview, Mike has assured us next year it won't happen again! Do yourselves a favour and book to stay at the Hotel Anastasia, you will have a great time, we are going back again in 2009.

Arrived back from our holiday on the 12th August and didn't want to come home! The hotel was excellent and we really enjoyed our stay. The family rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean, thanks to the hard work of the maids. The air conditioning was the most effective we've ever had. The staff were friendly and couldn't do enough for you, from the minute we arrived to the time we left. There was always a sun bed available during anytime of the day and the additional pool was great for the less confident swimmer and children. The Manager pays close attention to detail and both him and his family were socialable. Whilst on holiday it was our daughter's 4th Birthday. The staff made a fuss of her all day and she also had a Birthday cake during the evening meal free of charge. Jonny, who was in charge of the entertainment worked exceptionally hard and our two children thoroughly enjoyed his company and the organised activities at kids club - we also enjoyed the opportunity to have some time to ourselves! The Greek dancers on the first Saturday of our holiday were definitely a hit. The food was always of the highest standard, with a wide variety of dishes and we particularly liked the emphasis on Greek cuisine. The Sunday bbq was also a real treat. It was ideally located away from the hustle and bustle of Stalis, but there is an unofficial short cut through a hotel - can't remember the name, but turn left when you come out of the underpath and its approx 100yds on your right with a black gate and a sign saying its private and for hotel guests only!
Stalis itself was the only disappointing aspect of this holiday and the reason why we've rated it 9/10 . With few pavements the large number of quad bikes and mopeds were very annoying - it could definitely do with a pedestrian only walk way. The resort was also clearly tourist orientated and lacked the traditional Greek shops and culture. Walk into Malia if only once for the entertainment value! If you like wine the Gemini supermarket in Stalis sells it loose in plastic bottles and you can also try before you buy!
There are a lots of opportunities for experiencing traditional Greek culture, even if you're not brave enough to hire a car. Definitely visit Agios Nikolaos, which is a lovely town. We also recommend a boat trip to Spinalonga, the last leper colony in Europe, form the port here. Go with the Nostos Tours company, it only cost us 20 euros for the four of us and its the only one which has a personal guide.
If you have young children Star Beach is a great day out. Ours are 4 and 7. Entrance is free and you only pay 4 euros for your sunbed. There are three different children's pools with slides, water falls etc. The beach is also really nice here too.
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed Crete. We would definitely go back to the same hotel and would recommend it to anyone. Thank you to all the staff at the Anastasia who made our holiday such an enjoyable one.

Aug 2008, Miss R Belshaw

I returned to the hotel for the 4th time this year with my mum, dad & older brother (15yrs old) for two weeks. my older sister (20 yrs old) arrived on our second week to stay for a week, for her first time at hotel anastasia. It was my birthday while i was in Crete & has been for the past 4 years, and if you give the hotel enough notice, they supply you a birthday cake for free! & it's lovely aswell.
The hotel is great to relax in. a great getaway from the stressful life of a 14 year old, but seriously, my mum & dad find it great to relax by the pool instead of slaving away in work all day (who wouldn't?!). the staff are all very friendly & are happy to do anything for you, e.g. while we were there the booked us a hire car, booked a taxi to get my sister from the airport at 3 in the morning & booked us a taxi back to the airport. the rooms are very clean & the maids come everyday, without fail, to give you clean sheets & you get clean towels every other day. the air conditioning is a must have & makes the room so much cooler at night. the food is great, the menu varies throughout the week, but the only thing i can say is there could be a better choice for kids, especially fussy people like my brother!
the swimming pools are clean & the new pool is great, it means you don't have to get up horrifically early to get a sunbed around a crowded pool.
every year i go it's great, my parents meet up with their friends who have been at the hotel for the same number of years as we have, and i meet up with my friends who've done that too, aswell as making some new friends from Barnsley!
It was the first time my friends from barnsley had been to the hotel, but they're trying to persuade their parents to come back next year already!
This hotel is brilliant!!! Anyone who can't see that is either very, very fussy or needs their head checked! I will definately be coming back next year, to my second home, the hotel anastasia! =D
