Everything you need for a reaxing break. Hotel very clean, food pretty good, just a 2 minute walk to the resort, with lots of restuarants, bars etc and the very pretty river flowing out to one of the cleanest and loveliest bays you could wish to see. Woodland/coastal walks are stunning - everything within easy reach - will be going back next year.

We have been to this hotel no less than five times and will be visiting again in July 2008.
Quite simply we love it. The rooms are imaculately clean, a good selection of food at all times and a stunning location on the beach, where it is safe for children to paddle, and adults to swim. Staff have always been helpful and pleasant. evening entertainment is also fairly good and suitable for all. We usually hire a car which enables us to explore this beautiful Island. Nowhere is over 45 minutes drive away, and there are many beaches and things to see. Try fornells and hire a boat for a couple of hours and explore the bay, with its small almost private type beaches.
People are lovely and the English out there are respectable families, no benidorm chav types, no kiss me quick hats or must have English fry up breakfast types who read the sun!
I would say we are fairly hard people to please, but Menorca does it for us every time, and so does this great hotel. (no we havent got shares in it, just very very satisfied customers)

Our 2nd year there and we were not disappointed. The only reason I have lowered my score from 9 to 8 is that I didn't think that the evening buffet was quite as good as the previous year. One unexpected pleasure was the maitre d' recognising us from 12 months earlier and welcoming us back like old friends.
Hoping to return in Sept 2008, the sea should have warmed up a bit!
Again, highly recommended.

First class hotel and resort. Ideal for a family holiday. Excellent food.
Really nice waiters. Has four lifts all working. The children’s mini club is fantastic.
Just be careful, I had my digital camera stolen on the last day. 99 photos and some videos gone in a flash. No regrets, I should have locked my suitcase.

This was a brilliant holiday. The view from the room across the bay was great. The beach just across a walkway was clean and safe to bathe.
Food was varied and of a good standard with a good mix of local and English tastes. There is a choice of indoor or outdoor eating and the views from the outside restaurant across the bay are stunning. There is also an a la carte available at extra cost in a seperate dining room which we went in on our aniversary night and had a great meal including lobster.
The hotel was friendly, staff great. We went in May and there was plenty of space on the beach. The sun shone every day and we had a great time. There is a great little restaurant just to the left of the hotel as you face the beach, very convenient. You can eat, drink and still keep an eye on your beach stuff. Plenty of watersport stuff to rent, pedalos, boats, etc.
Walk down to the village centre and follow the coast walk and you can go all the way to Macarella and Macarelletta. Quite steep in places and takes about 45 mins. Not for the unfit.
There was entertainment most nights that was ok and the hotel has a friendly feel. The pool isn't massive but is ok but with the beach so close we didnt use it much anyway. There is a small gym too if you want to stay fit.
Lifts go right down to beech level and the resort is mainly flat so good for all ages.
We are a 48 year old couple but are taking our mum's next year as a birthday treat.
Enjoy!

Fantastic Holiday. The hotel was fabulous, good food, excellent service and the best resort on the island.
Fantastic sea views from the balcony, lovely quiet location with plenty of shops + bars for those that want them
Would we go back? You bet!
Car hire:
Hired a car for 2 days (from Avis in the hotel 9-11am)
No problems with service or car except fuel ( it wasn’t full i.e. 1/2 tank) it was supposed to be and that’s how you return it, if it’s not provided full then write down start/finish mileage and get a receipt for petrol.
Better still photograph the dashboard showing meter. The receipt was my savour as they couldn't win and gave up arguing when I produced proof of mileage done and proof of petrol purchased.

Just arrived home two days ago from Cala Galdana where my husband, I and our little girl stayed for a week, half board in the Sol Gavilanes hotel.
The resort itself is lovely, there is everything a family or couple wanting a quiet peaceful holiday could want, including a wonderful white sandy beach on the door step of the hotel and numerous cafes, bars and restaurants within walking distance.
There is a lovely little square in the resort and in the evening there is a stage set in the middle of it where I assume they do entertainment (it was just being set up) It really is quite pretty at night with the shops and bars dotted around it. A nice place to have a drink after dinner at the hotel.
Sol Gavilanes Hotel is quite nice and is kept immaculate! I have to say I was very impressed by the cleanliness of it. There is a maid service every day which is very efficient. The views from the balconies in the room are breath taking.
The food is ok, it does get a bit boring after eating the same thing every night, it's a buffet style restaurant, there are another two restaurant but these were not open when we went. (at beginning of May)The rooms are rather on the small side; this is the reason I have given it 8/10.
Fortunately we were not in our room for long so it didn't really matter. Make sure you take a travel kettle and tea and coffee if you like a cup first thing in the morning as there are no tea making facilities.
The entertainment in the hotel is o.k. and mainly consisted of different tribute bands, a magic show and a 70's 80's and 90's night. Our little girl loved it though so we could sit and have a drink while she danced the night away with the other children.
There are two nice swimming pools, a child’s one and adults one, the adults one is set down some steps away from the children’s one. They are really cold though but once you’re in and have a swim around its lovely.
We booked our holiday with Thomson and I have to say I did expect there to be a rep about, but if there was one I didn't see them! I know it was the beginning of the season but I do feel you should be informed of this.
I saw the Thomas Cook one around all the time. There is however all the information that you require in the Hall in the holiday folders and the numbers are on the board should you require them.
All in all we had a lovely holiday at the Sol Gavilanes hotel and the negative points I have mentioned really are outweighed by the good points!
Have a good time!

We were very impressed with the facilities and the staff at the hotel Sol Gavilanes. The location of the hotel is perfect and it is right on the beach too which is very appealing.
There are a number of shops just down the road and a few restaurants which serve a variety of foods. The resort itself is was very quiet and relaxing and also very clean.
Our only complaint was the service provided by Thomson which was not up to the standard we expected from them.
We had no contact with a rep throughout the whole holiday except for at the airport where they directed us to our bus, making us unsure of the reasons to book through Thomson rather than independently.

We stayed in the first week of last May and will be going again this May.
The Sol Gavilanes is situated right on the beach front with spectacular views over the bay. Be warned, access to the beach is down quite a few steps. There wasn't an easy slope for disabled people; there was a slope but it was far too steep.
And that is the end of the bad news.
The good news is that the rooms are very comfortable, not huge but big enough. There was a fridge in each room for keeping your own beer/water/cheese/anything!
Cannot comment on how child-friendly the hotel is as my wife and I are in our early 50s and we were with her parents. A disabled 78 year old and a very active 89 years old.
We also didn't use the bar very much as we generally preferred to have our drinks on our balconies.
The food was incredible value, an all-you-can-eat buffet for breakfast, including the traditional English. And if your bacon isn't crispy enough there is a chef on hand to crisp it up or to cook your eggs fresh.
Another all-you-can-eat buffet in the evening with a huge variety of cold meats, although very similar to those available in the morning, plus a range of hot meals. I never managed to get past the cold food!
I was also impressed by the quality of the food and all for less than £25 per night per person.
The hotel is a short walk from the town where there are a number of restaurants, 2 supermarkets, other hotels, etc. There is a shop in the hotel but as we were there before the season started it only opened just before we came home.
I shouldn't really be telling you how good it is as it might mean that they put their prices up next year, and rooms might be harder to come by!
Anyway, highly recommended.

I saw the hotel last year whilst picking up on the coach home - thought place fantastic.
Hotel itself it quite nice - you cannot fault the views from the rooms or the rooms themselves (except bit small). Food okay but not up to what we had come to expect from a Sol Hotel but eating al fresco in the evening sun made up for it.
Cala Galdana okay for a couple of days - during day great except in the evenings the bars etc were somewhat limited. Three hotels make up Cala Galdana's entertainment - mainly tribute bands (quite good).
Down side - quite expensive - gin and tonic for 2 - varied between 11 euros and 13 euros - Love Menorca but would not go back to Cala Galadana.

What can I say about this hotel except we have booked to go back next year.
The food was great and the location is the best of any resort we have stayed in. With beautiful views and peace and quiet in the evenings it was perfect. If you want to party then Cala Galdana is not for you. If you want a beautiful beach, peace and quiet and a few cafes and shops then it’s for you.
The staff are very friendly and waiting on is run with military precision, we had our 1 year old son with us and nothing was too much trouble. The hotel took this into account when we arrived and advised us that because we had a young baby they had put us at the end of a corridor so no one walked passed the room in the evening and woke him. That was a thoughtful touch that demonstrates the attention for detail from the staff.
A few people moaned about the food in the hotel which we found was varied and delicious. The people that moaned were people that were looking for a Burger King on the island so I took that with a pinch of salt!
The only down size is the rooms are rather small but the view will always compensate for that. If you want to save money book your own flights and book direct with the hotel.
See you next year.

Just returned from a two week holiday at this hotel 16th May - 30th May. The hotel is in a perfect location on the cliffside with spectacular views. The hotel is very clean and has excellent maid service. The dining area is ok food varied and suitable for all although becomes boring after a while, be prepared to queue for food as they seem rather short staffed especially up on the outside terrace restaurant where food tended to go cold rather quick.
Swimming pools are on different levels, baby pool not in sight of main pool and very very cold. Plenty of sun beds around the pool but limited space to put them and if you go to the beach the hire of sun beds is very expensive for a daily hire charge it is 19 euros which is around £15!!!!
The hotel prices for drink is far to expensive as compared to going down to the local bars for drinks, this made us go out every night as for two beers and a coffee it was around 12 euros which is about £9!!!. Also the shop at the bottom of the hotel is rather expensive, just a short walk into the square you can save yourself quite a bit of money.
Daily entertainment was not available for adults until 3pm, I was informed this was because it was early in the season (half term hotel fully booked, how much busier can it get!) Kids club was ok but seem to try and do things as a group and not split kids into ages as 12 year olds do not always want to do what the younger children do (again was this because to early in the season - half term!) Although the staff were very pleasant and did try hard with limited resources and staff (just 2).
Would recommend hiring a car and visiting different resorts as only takes a short time to go from one side of the Island to the other. Had a good day at the waterpark in Los Delfines, where food and drink at the park was very reasonable.
Would go back to the resort but stay at a different location as the hotel only really provided us with the room (very small) but very clean.
