Beautifull views

After reading the reviews for the Forest Park Hotel in Platres on the Tripadvisor website I was not at all sure what to expect when we arrived after dark on the first day of our holiday. A slight mix up at reception when it was thought we had only booked one room instead of two was sorted with very little fuss. The bedrooms are very comfortable and the bathrooms were a good size. My only negative comment would be that my room must have accommodated a very heavy smoker before me as even leaving the balcony doors open all week and spraying daily with air freshener did not get rid of the smoky smell. The maid service was good and she cleaned efficiently everyday. The view from my room was breathtaking and with the weather warm and sunny I really enjoyed the large balcony. Breakfast outside on the large attractive terrace was a delight, and the selection of food offered was impressive. The evening meal taken in the beautiful art deco dinning room was wonderful, four courses, with choices, served by attentive waiters. Once or twice the first course could have been a little hotter, but a minor point. I had hoped to do some swimming as the brochure said the swimming pools (one inside and one out) were heated but unfortunately they were not (or not so you would notice). It was lovely and peaceful to sit in the lovely surroundings of the outside pool though and sunbathe. I did have a bit of a problem with gnat bites and I would advise people to beware in the evening The hotel management were always helpful and friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. Most of the guests were middle aged or older, keen hikers, walkers or just enjoying the peace and views. It is not a place for young people or those who want evening entertainment. All I can say if you are booked to stay at the Forest Park Hotel it is very comfortable and the perfect spot from which to explore the picturesque mountain villages. You will not be disappointed.
Forest Park, 4 Star, I don't think so !
from Brasco1000
The Forest Park hotel is an Art Deco hotel that would not look out of place in an episode of Poirot. The 4 star rating is a bit on the generous side in our view. We stayed there for 1 night as part of our honeymoon and to be honest it wasn't really what we expected as I think we were the only people under 50. The rooms were pretty basic and the facilities were not would you would expect from a 4 star hotel. I contacted reception to ask for an iron, only to be called back 15mins later to be told the didn't have one, so if you decide to stay at this hotel, make sure you iron your clothes before you go !
do not go - it ruined our honeymoon

We got married in Cyprus, staying at the Annabelle then went on to the Forest Park for our honeymoon. We thought it would be relaxing and romantic. It was anything but. The service - Appauling. The management were so rude. I have never been treated so badly in a hotel. The room - Basic. The food - We stayed in for a meal one night - it was repulsive and over priced. We tried to swop hotels but it was a bank holiday so couldn't. This hotel could be something special...... sadly its a dump with the rudest management (a series of old men who lurched about) I have ever encountered. Our travel company, Amathus, was appauling (various problems) unfortunately they never responded to our letter of complaint on our return. DONT USE THEM.
Old World Grandeur, Modern Comfort in a Breathtaking Setting
from DrLaurence
My whole family and I (six persons aged 2 to 78 from Jerusalem and New York) just returned from our first stay at the Forest Park -- and I emphaszie "first" because we cannot wait to return! Only after booking our accomodations, but shortly before our departure did we discover the negative reviews on this site. Naturally we were both curious -- and truth to tell, somewhat concerned -- about what we would find in Platres. Upon our arrival we discovered a splendid, charming and immaculate old world establishment amidst breathtaking surroundings. You could see at once that the owners of this hotel have been in this business for generations. Their attention to their guests, their kindness and deportment are examplary. Moreover, their keen sense of history and tradition are reflected in their committment to the preservation of the hotel's "retro" furnishings in its many public rooms, an impressive collection of hotel memorabilia and even their 1937 Chevrolet! The guest rooms are modern and well appointed with spectacular views. The breakfasts were wonderful, with a good variety of fresh tasty food, both hot and cold. The staff were both friendly and efficient. Our every request was met with a smile and immediately fulfilled -- including advise and arrangements for local excursions. Unfortunately, our time here passed all too quickly but we left very satisfied, refreshed and rested. We shall return soon, we hope. Meantime, we can reccomend the Forest Park unreservedly and with great pleasure.

If you're not fussy, don't mind walking past old mattresses, mops and brooms then stay in one of the shabby apartments being passed off as a "Cabin" at this hotel. The decor is about thirty years out of date, the fridge was sticky and everything inside the fridge was frozen solid. The food served at the "International Buffet" was adequate, but very far removed from international, and did definitely not warrant the nine fifty price tag. And let's not mention the stained coffee cups at the breakfast. This hotel should not be four star; perhaps a two star at best.
Avoid this hotel at all costs

Taking note of recent favourable views, and foolishly taking no account of the review entitled 'What a Dump', we recently stayed at this hotel. What a mistake we made! It is a hotel that just does not have a clue what a good hotel should be like. Everything about it is wrong. The food in the 'canteen' must be quite the worst I have ever had the misfortune to suffer. How anybody in their right mind could possibly classify this establishment as 'good' is beyond me. My advice would be stay well clear - the other smaller hotels in Platres looked infinitely better - and at least the food was eatable.
Warmth & Friendliness

We only stayed for a weekend, as a pre Christmas treat, and we really enjoyed it; the hotel is lovely. The staff were friendly, attentive and helpfull, as was the management. My husband is a wheelchair user, and the hotel management have made, and are continuing to make, every effort to make the hotel wheelchair user friendly, which, in Cyprus is not always the case. I can't comment on the scenery, as most of the time it was shrouded in mist/raining!, but they ensured that inside the hotel, it was lovely and warm, and there was always plenty of hot water. Even the spacious bathroom had a heated towelrail, so there was none of that cold shock of an unheated bathroom! The food was good, if only the usual international hotel food, with a few local touches, but plenty of it,hot, and plenty of choice, and the musician who provided the entertainment was talented and versatile, and played a mix of international and greek tunes. Overall, very enjoyable. I think the reviewer who is complaining so much must have stayed somewhere else!
Friendly family run hotel
from BigBazza
We stayed at the hotel with some friends from London, the managment was always helpful and friendly, even arranging for a taxi to pick us up at the airport. Our rooms were large, clean and comfortable (we did pay extra for the larger room), and the full english breakfast was magnificent. We only ate one meal at the hotel, which wasn't great, but they did put themselves out to provide a fish meal which was not on the menu, and even provided a complimentary bottle of kosher wine. We enjoyed our stay very much, and would certainly return, much more enjoyable than staying at one of those cold and impersonal "chain" hotels.
Very friendly hotel

This is a lovely family owned hotel in the Troodos mountains. The staff are freindly and the owner will give advice on trips, walks etc when asked. There are indoor and outdoor pools gym and games room. many people are repeat guests. It is an excellent base to explore the area. I couldn't fault the hotel at all - very clean, good friendly service , food excellent. I will return - excellent value for money
What a dump!

The Forest Park Hotel (4*), Platres, Cyprus I would advise all readers to stay well away! Not only was this the worst hotel we stayed in - in Cyprus - it was the worst hotel we have ever had the misfortune to stay in worldwide. Once you had held your breath to drive past the stinking septic tank, you entered the hotel. The whole place looked as though it was just recovering from a party the night before - but we found out later this is how it always looked! However, if you really hate food - this is the place you should come. Whist we had unfortuneately booked on a full-board basis - we couldn't face another meal after the first dire experience, and ate at local tavernas thereafter; honestly, you wouldn't want to feed such trash to a pig - it was unbelievably, (and I mean really unbelievably) disgusting- seemingly constituted from scaps of earlier meals - and take my word for it , there were plenty of scraps. The sad thing is, the management seemed to think that everything was fine - it was just one ot those places that you just wouldn't bother complaining about. If you think by now that this hotel was just some flea-bitten 1* hotel, you would be wrong - it portrays itself as a premier 4* establishment. Seriously, if you've already booked a room - cancel it - if you don't you will be horrified - you'd be better off camping!

The Forest Park Hotel, 4 Star Platres Cyprus. The editor of above review, who leaves in Paphos has the right to give his opinion about our establishment which is a traditional long established 4 star hotel. (Please refer to our website - commercial URL). But our answer to his comments are the thousands of repeat satified guests from all over the world, who come back again and again every year. Thank you
