Comments:  Arrival and Flight: Friday June 13th delayed four hours apparently first time this year any delay to this destination has occurred Airline was Monarch, as I expected entertainment on the flight was very basic as opposed to Thomas Cook flight we took to Cuba last year which was exceptional.
Rooms: Basic but clean and adequate. Maid service every day and thorough and efficient.
Restaurants: Main restaurant buffet style good selection of tasty food for Breakfast and evening meal will suit everyone except the faddiest who will never be happy. There are three snack bars near the bar on the beach serving delicious Pizza, battered fish and French fries, various pastas different on different days, Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Fried Chicken, all available with salads. There is also a choice of delicious tropical fruits and ice cream for anyone just wanting a light lunch. The buffet restaurant is also open at lunchtime but we did not try it as we were on the beach every day. There is also an a la carte restaurant which each guest can book twice a week with different theme nights every night. Service is good plenty of wine topped up as fast as you drink it and the food is tasty and well presented.
Bars :Beach bars and Pool bars open until 5pm main bar open all day service is good
Beach and Pools : Pools three in total large pools deepest 1.5 mtres clean and well kept.
Grounds: Flora and Fauna absolutely beautiful and well maintained all around the resort, tropical plants you would never see in the UK
Activities and Entertainment: Bit of a letdown the nightly entertainment consisted mainly on audience participation therefore holiday makers entertaining holidaymakers. The animation team seemed to have little individual professional talent other than Latin dancing which they were very good at. Activities all throughout the day but entertainment team struggle to get participants as most people just want to chill out.
Tours: Not a huge variety that suited us but there would be at least one tour to suit individual tastes.
Departure and Check Out: Like check in fast and efficient by hotel reception remember to hand back in your beach/pool towels and exchange it for a receipt card as you need it to get a clearance chitty before departure.
Conclusion: This was listed as a three star hotel taking into account food, service, facilities, and staff I would rate it as a three star plus. The weather for the fortnight was excellent blue sky every day heavy shower only once lasted 15 minutes. I would have no doubts about recommending the Luperon Beach Resort to anyone but of course people have different levels of expectations and probably would not suit the fussier holidaymaker who generally expect five stars for a three star cost holiday. The time we were there the hotel was well under occupied which meant there was no problem getting sun beds on the beach or around the pool (although there was still the odd [--] who got up early in the morning to put their towel on a sunbed probably never returning that day) The only time it was busy was Friday until Sunday when the hotel does short term breaks and the hotel fills with local Dominicans for the three days but the services took the extra guests well within their stride and coped well. There is a ten-dollar entry tax landing at the airport and twenty-dollar exit tax so make sure you take American dollars as my sister in law did not and they do not accept sterling at immigration. They accept dollars in the airport shops and in the resorts so that would be the preferred currency to take although you would get your change in Dominican Pecos. Remember your Dominican Pecos are no good any ware except in the Dominican Republic so use them all up before departure. You will notice on the main departure days the staff are even friendlier and go around singing as you prepare to leave (hint hint) so go on give them a good tip they are worth it and you had little else to spend your money on.

Comments:  Excellent Holiday, at a Lovely resort.
Very friendly staff, and lovely food with the all inclusive deal.
Basic room, but you spend most of your time going on trips or doing activities or laying on the beach so that doesnt matter.
Had 2 days of rain which was disapointing but other wise it was 30C the rest of the time with plently of sun shine.
Very strong cocktails, very very nice!

Comments:  Stayed at Luperon Beach 28th April to 7th May. Before going i wasn't expecting too much after reading all the bad reviews. I seriously think they were writing about the wrong hotel! I went with my girlfriend (we are a young couple) and i can safely say this is an amazing place.

It is in a great location and the place is kept very well. You always see cleaners looking after the place. Beach was very nice too however sea was a bit rough as it is still the Atlantic (not too cold though). Weather was very good, started off a bit cloudy, had 1 day of rain, and the rest of the holiday we never saw a cloud. However if it is a cloudy day don't think you can get away with no suncream as we both made this mistake on the first day and burnt like hell! Prickly heat and sunburn for the next 3 days which was a huge downer as we couldn't enjoy these days so don't make the same mistake we did (the sun is 70% stronger in dominican so it gets you through the clouds).

Anyway, the room was ok, maybe a little dated, but don;t let that put you off (you don't go on holiday to stay in a room so who cares). You get free a/c which is very powerful and satalleite tv. We experienced a few power cuts whilst there however that's common.

The hotel has three main pools. We stayed at the 1 with the swim up bar and the waterfalls. Again very clean, and handy with the bar ;-) Water not heated however warms up by midday (it gets so hot you need the water cool).

For food we always went to the buffet resteraunt. Did get a bit boring however they have lots of selections and different things every day. Very good chefs. There is a few other resteraunts such as a specialty one which has a differnt theme each night such as brazillian, italien etc however you had to book this and we was told it wasn't very good so we never bothered.

Staff around the resort were very friendly and all speak good english.

If i had to say anything negative it would be the l;ast weekend we were there when it was domincan republic's bank holiday and the place was well over crowded by loud Dominicans who were always pushing in and getting served first at the bars. but i guess they have to have holidays too!

Anyway back on to the good bits. During our stay we did two of the excursions. The first being Paradise Island trip where you take a speed boat to a little island in the Atlantic that is surrounded by a coral reef where you can snorkel around in the warm crystal waters. Great trip however this was on the day we had the bad weather which a put a bit of a downer on it however we still enjoyed it. The last excursion we did was Ocean World...This is a place you HAVE to visit especialy if you have kids. The place is mainly visited by people wanting to swim with dolphins which is what we did. It is expensive at around £80 per adult however it is well worth it (if you like extremely clever tame dolphins). There is a very good dolphin and shark show and there are other things to do there too. A great day out.

So that's about it for this review, please don;t let the bad reviews put you off this amazing place! We travelled with Sunset Thomas Cook and the rep was very helpful. The flights with them weren't too bad either, decent leg room and a tv in the back of every seat.

Feel free to ask me any questions about this place. Hope you have a good time if you are going!

Comments:  We stayed at Luperon over Easter 21/3 - 4/4 and had a really great time despite bad weather in the 2nd week. Luperon is a bit of a backwater and the hotel(it is really just 1 hotel not 2)is not the type of place for people wanting big resort entertainment or glamour. We, a family of five (kids 12, 9 and 7), came for the sunshine, beach, sea and watersports and got exactly what we wanted. The hotel is clean & tidy, the food in the only buffet restaraunt was good and varied, and most of the staff pleasant. Our Thomas Cook Rep, Bev, was superb and helped us change our rooms to quieter ones away from the Disco, the kids not wanting to stay up till 2a.m.every night!! Bev was helpful and full of good advice as to how to get our best out of the holiday. The Mega trucks excursion was fantastic and is a must for anybody wanting to see a different Dom. Rep. than just your resort, and the Jurassic Park scenery was stunning!! Our only word of warning would be to book your catamaran trip through your holiday rep and TipTop Cats and not through Petra at the pool and Aguara Catamarans (who are part of the sea pro water sports team, and as we found out later, not accountable to the hotel or the holiday company)!! We did and it was the worst experience of our lives. We were told by Petra it would be cancelled for rain yet our trip went ahead despite 20ft waves, driving wind and rain and stormy weather, it was dangerous, no life jackets were given out and everybody was cold, miserable and seasick. The Captain, despite the adverse conditions stayed in his berth with a lady friend, letting the 2nd mate blunder his way thru' the storm! One family did not want to get back on the Cat for the return journey! When we complained we were given no apology, no recompense and no acceptance that 20 people had had a day of their holiday ruined just so the company could make money. If you book thru' your rep you would get a refund or a replacement trip if you can make it.
However that was only one bad day out of many good days, so we would definitely say that the overall experience was a superb one.

Comments:  We really enjoyed our stay at the Luperon Hotel we enjoyed the Swimming, snorkelling, sailing, diving, babana boat, volleyball etc........

Two adults and one teenager, we also tried the pony treking a few times for us we simply wanted to chill out and relax on a beach, the weather was brilliant and exactly what we expected. The caribean is about beautiful inviting clear blue water, it was so hot you had to swim in a pool or the sea to cool down.

The highlight for us was the Ocean world experience swimming with dolphins and watching and joining in the other activities was fantastic and definetly a once in a lifetime experience Hamlet the Tour Guide was exceptional. The Parrots, Tigers Sharks it was all very good we bought the t shirts and dvd etc.........
Try to avoid the VIP Tour Operators, they where trying to sign people up for a timeshare deal, at a complex nearby.

We enjoyed the food we ate loads of salads with the main courses we ate fruit at breakfast and dinner. The special themed nights where very good we chose the Mexican and Brazilian nights.

The animation team was also very good they are all brillaint dancers and entertainers the manager was very talented also the audience participation was very good involving everyone to dance and play games. The shows where very good and demonstrated all the hard work that went into them.We also bought the music dvd as a reminder.
Sam danced on the stage to the salsa beat, she was so impressed with the holiday, she wants to move to the dominican republic

We enjoyed the catermaran cruise all day which gave you an insight into how the local people live, and snorkelling on a beautiful beach then enjoying a meal and coconut drink with rum it was very nice and relaxing.

The rooms where very neat, clean and tidy, with air conditioning our shower head was not fastened to the wall but it did not cause any problems.

Bev the Thomas Cook rep was very helpful also the watersports staff Raffiel, Miguel, Edward where very good.

A holiday is what you make it, we had some ups and downs { a short hospital visit } we would definetly return to Luperon, it ticked all the right boxes for us, this is by far the best place that we have visited. The Caribean is just beatiful

Comments:  We have just got home from Luperon Beach Resort Dominican Republic and would never go there again. The staff have no control over holiday makers that constantly get out of control thus spoiling the holiday for everyone. At the weekend hoards of locals are let loose in the resort and vertually take over the place. At the weekends we could not get a table in the buffet resturant and when we did had to wait at least 30 minutes for clean plates and cutlery. They would wait until you left your sun bed to go in for a swim and would then proceed to dump all your stuff including cameras and cloths onto the wet ground and take the beds for themselves. We where told that there would be tea and coffee facilities in the rooms but apparently due to health and safety this had been removed, but they left a fridge in the room that had ore rust than enamel.
We had at least 4 days with no towels in the room and the toilet blocked and overflowed. Many people where swapping rooms because of no water for washing or leaking ceilings and only cold water when it was available. The floor in the buffet resturant was so slippery that even the chairs slid as you sat down and a number of guests slipped over on these dangerous floors. This of course was dangerous for other guests as well with broken crockery and food flying everywhere. The beach was not bad but very rocky in and out of the sea apart from a small portion which was about 30 foot in length at the far end and the undercurrant was strong. Parents where also complaining because their children where cutting their feet on rubbish and glass on the beach.
Some of the managers pushed there way to the front of the queues at the bars with no thought for the people that had been waiting. Then there was the Time Share people that pounced at every oppertunity and we had to be very firm to get rid of them.
The only good things about the resort was the fab weather and the Thomas Cook rep who worked tirelessly trying to sort out the problems so Well done to her.

Comments:  It was an amazing holiday ! The staff were all lovely, They couldnt speak much english though but that didnt matter. When we booked the holiday and i looked at the reveiws they were all bad. I was expecting to go to a horrible resort. It was lovely nothing like most of the bad reveiws. The one bad thing is our room had a leak and they didnt really understand how to fix it. But that didnt change the holiday. The pools were all lovely!! The rooms were much better than i expected i was really please with the maid. Horseriding was so much fun, also free. My friend went to a resort and it was 20 dollars to horseride. Overall i was very happy with the resort and i really wish i was there now. I deffinatly would recomend it.

Comments:  Luperon Beach Resort was an excellent resort, with a good range of people and the entertainment staff were brilliant. The night life was great. Unfortunately about 80 locals came up for a weekend and took over the hotel, that was a shame and also the paradise island trip is a complete disappointment as you sit on a 50 foot length of sand for 3 hours with 200 other people. Apart from those few days the holiday was excellent and great value for money. a thoroughly enjoyable holiday and i cant wait to go back!

Comments:  Would not go again. Food was horrible, the meat was always never cooked properly so had to avoid to risk food poisoning. The RCI crew was so annoying, would jump out on you from no-where to try and flog you their "Time Share". We got fooled into joining by getting told what they thought we wanted to hear but none of it was true. Ended up having to complain everyday and eventually got are money back on the final day. The 1st room was ok (that we were allowcated by Thomas Cook) but as we joined RCI we supposedly upgraded to another room which was terrible. When it rained it came through the ceiling, the toilet seat was stained, air con didnt work. When we complained we found out that no-one should of been allocated the room. After 3 days they moved us to another room which was full of bugs because of the plant which was in the room & the flowers which was left attracted the bugs even more & the air con was rubbish in that room too. Went on 1 trip as they were so expensive, went to paradise island which wasnt worth the money. Couldnt even sit on the beach as waves came over both sides so after standing for what seemed forever we just wanted to get off the island. The shows were ok, but not well advertised as to whether the band would be playing that night or not. Two weeks there is too long, ends up being boring as end up doing the same thing every day unless you have lots of money to go on the trips. Went into Luperon village once or twice but second time shops were all shut even though it was early afternoon so ended up in "Steves Bar", the staff there were friendly enough but had a burger and it was not cooked so ended up with a dodgy belly and the 2nd time it was so dry it fell apart. Up sides were nice pools and the beach was good apart from the lack of sunloungers. The actual hotel staff were polite and friendly enough always saying hola as you past them.
Overall I would not reccomend to ANYONE to go there especially not families. I'm not particularily fussy and when talking to other families they all thought the same.
Yes a very cheap holiday but go AT YOUR OWN RISK!!

Comments:  Upon arrival we were a bit shocked by our room which was "tired" and a bit scruffy. However, the remainder of the hotel and its facilities were fine and our room was kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay.

There are 3 pools, various bars, and places to get a snack lunch if you don't want a full meal and we found that there was always something you could eat from the various main courses available at mealtimes. The staff were happy and the animation team worked very hard to join everyone in to the activities.

There was a high ratio of Canadian and American guests to British but hey we're all on holiday - right? The hotel is surrounded by some beautiful walks and uninhabited bays if you don't want to stay on the hotel beach and we felt safe leaving the hotel complex. The nearest town of Luperon is about 20 minutes walk away (or $2.50 by taxi) and is worth a visit - the shops are cheaper than in the hotel and gives you a flavour of how the local people really live.

Our overall view of the holiday was good value for money and no real complaints about the hotel. We flew on Thomas Cook Airlines and I have to say that for a long haul flight, the food and service was pretty basic and don't ignore the rep's warning of excess baggage charges on the return flight - they really do apply them!

Comments:  Five of us went to the Luperon Beach Resort over Christmas and New Year and had a mostly excellent time. The weather was excellent 13 out of 14 days (with the only rain coming occasionally through the night and on the last day of our holiday) and the grounds were very well kept. There are 4 pools; 2 of which seemed more lively than others as there were activities held there throughout the day (pool games, dance lessons etc) so it was nice to have the option of some more relaxed ones as well.

The food at the buffet restaurant was great - there was a great selection - in the 2 weeks I'd tried many foods I'd never had before such as crab, lobster, rabbit, quail, caviar, plantains - however, there were also things like chicken, steak, pork, pizza and so on. There were occasional dishes such as paella, chilli etc. I didn't really care for the snack bar food as most things came in buns, which I always found quite dry, possibly due to the heat.

One thing to point out though: we were informed that there were 4 a la carte restaurants to choose from, which sounds like ample choice. However, it turned out that there was only 1 functioning a la carte restaurant with 4 menus, this meant that reservations were very hard to come by (even trying to book at just after 07:00 was unsuccessful). It turned out that we never managed to book a table in the whole 2 weeks we stayed there, but we didn't mind too much as the food in the buffet was nice enough.

The rooms are fairly basic (no sink for drinking water, tea making facilities etc) however, we anticipated this and spent very little time in our rooms anyway. There are a few English speaking channels (ESPN News, CNN, TNT, TBS) but most were in Spanish, so bringing some form of entertainment yourself might be advisable incase there's nothing you like there.

Maintenance was our biggest gripe, I went without a functioning shower for over a week (reporting it every day) and it took a further few days and a report to the manager to get hot water. This wasn't a problem as I could shower in somebody else’s room, but if that wasn't an option I'd have been pretty angry about it.

Our second biggest gripe were the on complex shops - almost no items had a price tag and so the price was made up on the spot and changed every time you went in (we bought 2 pairs of sunglasses for $35 one day, then went in the next for someone else and they asked $30 for one). You'd expect a mark-up in price for the convenience, but it was too much (another example: a bag of cheetos in the local town of Luperon cost around $1, but they were asking for 5 there). My advice would be to take a trip into Luperon or La Isabella and you'll get much better prices there.

Outside of the main restaurant you'll see the 'Welcome Back Club' who will be very friendly the first couple of days, coming up to you to shake your hand and sit down at your table to talk for a while sometimes. After a few days you're invited to talk for a while and lead to a Holiday club presentation. This took about an hour and was never too pushy - we didn't like the idea of it, politely refused and it was accepted. However, after we'd been to the presentation we found ourselves ignored by the people that had been so friendly just days before, which we resented a little; however, they're just doing their job and it's sometimes better not to be hassled.

Although the weather was mostly good, it was a problem when there was a little wind or rain. Everything is open plan (the bars, the restaurants, the activity areas) and so when it rained, it was either a case of sitting there getting wet or heading back to the room early - it would be a good idea to invest in some indoor facilities, or at least some protective coverings that can be pulled down in case of these eventualities. The floors in the restaurant got very slippy when wet and we witnessed a few people falling, and I myself fell down some stairs. Luckily no one got hurt, but it should have been an easily avoidable problem.

Sun loungers around the pool and beach are often taken up very quickly, and people will simply put a towel down to reserve them and not come back for hours. It is stated that this is against the Hotel rules, and so we took to simply removing the towels and taking the loungers if no one returned to them after a period of time, so it was not a big problem. The German guests seemed to be the biggest offenders here, but I don't wish to stereotype and do not know if this is typical of what happens all year round.

The Animation Team put on some great shows that mainly consisted of dance routines and occasional short comedy sketches in-between, possibly to give the performer’s time to change. My personal favourites were the Blues Brothers performance and the African Theme night, so look out for them if they're still on when you visit. The only negative to this was that the shows took place from 22:00 until around 23:00 and there was not much else to do afterwards unless you wanted to go to the disco (23:15 - 02:30), however, this isn't for everyone and so some might feel a bit lost after the show unless they brought their own entertainment (a book, a deck of cards, hand-held computer games and so on).

The resort is quite far removed from any large cities and so it can feel at times like you're stranded on the resort - sitting by the pool all day every day might get a bit tedious after all. However, we took a couple of trips into Luperon, the marina just a 5 minute walk down the road and went on a few of the excursions to break up the fortnight. The Mega Trucks excursion was great - you took a tour of the area in a big 6 wheeler truck, visiting a real Dominican village and seeing how they really live off-resort. Horseback riding through areas where apparently some scenes from Jurassic Park were filmed, taken to a beautiful beach and finally to a place to see how cigars and Mamajuana are made. We all had an excellent day out and would recommend it to anybody.

In the car park just outside the main entrance is a place where you can book Quad Bike excursions - my dad and I took the 4 hour excursion for $80 per person and we both had an amazing time. You'll be taken through the country to see more of the amazing scenery, real Dominican Republic, the rivers, beaches and so on. You'll take occasional breaks where you're free to test the speed the bikes along the beach and so on, which is good fun. After about 2 hours you'll reach La Isabella and stop for a drink and snacks which they paid for. I'd definitely recommend doing this if the weather is nice because it was a big highlight of the trip.

So... I hope that gives you a good idea of what to expect (based on our experiences) and despite some of the flaws, we still had an amazing time.
