well where do we start,me & my husband were realy looking forward to this holiday cause it is the first in 3 years ( what a dissapointment )complex was nice, well kept gardens but that was it apart from the weather that was lovely.food was cold, same choice for lunch & dinner i ended up with the runs.a,la carte was the same the food could have english not forign.accomadation was ok,( basic ) had to get moved during holiday cause of ants in our room,it is a realy dirty place.i realy realy disagree that the locals are aloud in cause they just push there weight around they look at you if to say we should,nt be there,i bet you we spend a lot more money for our holiday than them.we were there for 3 weeks with nothing to do inside or outside of the what i can only call the jail it was a nightmare.we think you should get rid of this jail and just keep it for the locals that is all they deserve.it,s meant to be a 4* we give it 0*

Great place for relaxation

Dec 2010, Rosa1966

Just back from a great 14 night break to luperon.
This is a great place to relax, but you can pay extra for additional not inclusive activities, which would make your stay more lively.
The beach is good but not long, but there are three different pool areas, if the beach is not to your liking.
Staff are very friendly, rooms are clean and comfortable.
Resturant has a good range of food to meet all requirements.
Luperon village is small but has a good disco if you like Dominican music.
Planning my next trip fpr April 2011

I wanted a relaxing holiday and that is what I got. Beach sun and alcohol at the beginning of a chilly November. Kids age 17 and 11 were entertained by the animation team which meant I could relax. Hotel was empty even though it was British Half term. I didn't spend a penny whilst I was there except on a bottle of Dom Rum to bring home (lethal stuff). Food was fab, a few weird looking dishes but don't knock it before you try. Kids love the pizza'a. It rained every night around 9.30 for about an hour but was undercover watching the entertainment by then and it freshened everything up.
The rooms are basic but spacious I didn't have trouble with my air con, shower or water. I went into the village which for fab drank in the local pub and got a ride on a motor taxi recomend it.
I have only been to Spain for holidays before this and if you want to get away from tourism or spending a fortune and just want to relax whilst your kids are entertained then this is the place for you. You may want some travel sickness pills transfer is a bit of trek and a bit bumpy (holes in the road). I am going again next year so can't be that bad can it?

Beware - salmonella poisoning!
5 / 10
Nov 2010, Goyo

We live in the area and for years have enjoyed staying at the Hotasa Luperon Beach Resort. It is lovely in most respects: an attractive, restful layout and environment, large comfortable rooms, friendly staff, good live shows in the evening, several nice pool areas and a beach that, although it isn't good for swimming, is great for lying around and relaxing. Good value for money. However ...
The first time I got salmonella poisoning was in Easter week of this year (2010). I took it in stride, thinking it was a fluke. Unfortunately I caught another bad case while spending a weekend there 10 days ago: two different strains, no less, causing extreme diarrhea and making me miss a week of work.
The management obviously doesn't have hygiene in the kitchen under control. Unless and until this issue is fixed, I strongly recommend against visiting this resort. I'm giving it a good overall rating, but the health issue is crucial.
A shame, really.

Holiday from hell

We arrived from Gatwick on Sunday the transfer was certainly an eye opener! This country seems to have no rules whatsoever! There are no road rules and even drink driving is legal and it is not uncommon to see 5 people stacked up on a motorbike with no helmets!!! If you have a bigger vehicle then you have right of way! The driver was constantly using his horn to get car and bikes to get out the way. Do not sit at the front of the coach as you will be scared for life!
Arrived after 1 1/2 hour transfer to a warm reception. This is where things started to go down hill. We were allocated the wrong apartment as we paid for a suite and requested a ground floor due to a disabled person being with us. We had to wait over an hour for another apartment. When we finally got to the apartment we were horrified at the conditions, the separate living area was like a dungeon with cheap wicker furniture and a noisy fridge. The TV was in bedroom and not the living room like you would expect. The bathroom was dirty, the ceiling was rusty and had a terrible sewage odour. The bedroom was very tired and the light fittings were hanging on by a tread. The patio doors did not shut so we were really concerned as we were on the ground floor.
We were then moved to block 8 which did have a nicer room but we did not have any hot water and the air con did not work, the other problem was that this block is directly behind the activity pool and the amphitheatre which is extremely noisy throughout the day and night. We were eventually moved to block 14 which was fine.
The food - was OK to begin with, but it was rarely hot. Often the same things on the menu. The omelettes were the best thing as they are freshly made and the chef is lovely!! When the locals arrived we were pushed to the al a carte restaurant which was dark and small and the choice of food was very limited and often very cold. You had to request drinks rather than help yourselves like the main restaurant so this also limited by what you got. A buffet restaurant was opened next door to the al a carte as an overflow for the locals which meant they have both the main open aired restaurants. You are allowed to use these at your peril but we were told by the locals to use our own restaurant!!
THEN THE LOCALS ARRIVED!!! - These people are the most arrogant, rude, dirty, unhygienic, greediest people we have ever had the misfortune to meet. The first weekend we arrived there was 1300 of them and it was a complete nightmare, they took over the pools, restaurants, bars and the complete complex. They have no regards for anyone else but them selves. The particularly did not like the British and we felt that we were being racially victimised by them, they have no regards for disabled peopled and we were constantly being stared at, which made us feel very intimidated and uncomfortable. There was a 4 hour queue for the bbq, food was often taken by several platefuls piled high, and they will push in everywhere and climb over you to get to what they want. Unfortunately there was a bank holiday while we were there and the weekend only locals turned into the complete week.
The pool - at first seemed nice, HOWEVER once the locals came in and took them all over, the pools quickly became a heath hazard. We went to the waterfall pool and discovered it full of urine, faeces and sick. When we spoke to the pool maintenance guy he told us that the pools had not been cleaned for 4 days as they could not afford the chlorine. I got the manager to inspect the pool and he closed it straight away.
The Rep - was helpful when we had a personal emergency back home but told the same story to everyone that complained making out that no one else had problems, mostly all British holiday maker at the resort had made a complaint. Please do not believe the rep if she tells you that there are no complaint forms as this is what she ended up telling people and it is simply not true. YOU MUST COMPLAIN AT THE REPORT OTHERWISE YOU CAN NOT COMPLAIM WHEN YOU RETURN TO THE UK.
Despite requesting to move reports we were told we were not able to, however on our last day there was a heath and safety officer from Thomas cook arrived and moved the majority of the British people to another report.
All in all this report is not suitable for British holiday makers and Thomas Cook should not be recommending this report. We will be taking our complaint further. Sorry to put a rubbish review for those of you that have already book but you need to know what you are letting yourselves in for

although we had 5 days of rain [ unheard of at that time of year ] we had the best holiday ever, right on the beach , the staff were great , but thats what we had become used to in DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, the hotel was advertised as being a little difficult for people with mobility problems so i was alittle worried before we got there , the hotel is situated on differant levels , i have a mobility problem and i must say i managed , your on holiday so can take it slowly and enjoy the sun while you walk , we had a great time and i would go again , food was buffet so you chose what you you had ,plenty of choice , our rooms were spotless , looking forward to my next visit , if you get a chance to go on any day trips i,d recomend ocean world and the quad bikes, the entertainment was 1st class, xxxxxxx kay

Would Not Go Again!! Think Before You Book

I am equal minded as never been abroad before!
We arrived to find a lovely quiet hotel with beautiful grounds. The food was nice and the staff are brilliant. THEN THE LOCALS CAME!! Well what can i say. I have never met so rude people in my life. They would take sweets from a baby, (thats unless they took your baby first) they push in everywhere and generally think they run the hotel. The complex became dirty and noisy, many times i had to lean over the balcony at 12am and tell them to shut up.
Our hotel room air conditioning was leaking from the 2nd day we got there to the end of the holiday, after a week of complaining we were told it was not able to be fixed, they had no other room to move us to! Our rep told us on there was 156 Brits here already and 800 Dominicans were booking in that week. The other reviews say that they only go on the weekends......well they were there most week days.
The entertainment is good for children but for adults....i'd recommend going to look for black grains of coloured sand on the beach at night as that may be more exciting!
They have 3 pools and not 4 as advertised. The pools have constant litter in them, and my friend nearly cut his hand on a broken tile in the childrens pool. The pool area is not cleaned on a regular basis and has tab ends all around and soggy napkins.
The Beach has the most smallest swimming area and again is littered with tab ends and rubbish. A young girl stood on a sea hedghog and she was in the 'safe area'.
There is probably 2 staff in the whole complex that speak English.
These other reviews say, 'oh its a third world country' etc, balls! If you book a holiday in Iraq you expect better grades than the Dominican! The complex is owned by a massive company that own many others around the world!
The excursions were fantastic, (mainly as it gets you out the hotel) Paradise island is out of this world, and mega trucks is brilliant.
The overall holiday was good as it was a break away, the grounds are very well kept. We unfortunately booked this first without looking at the reviews!
Such a shame though as this could be a nice complex if they set some rules and gave the hotel a well needed face lift. BUT they will never get rid of all those ignorant Dominicans and that seemed to be a problem to everyone.

On arrival the first impression is of Hidi Hi campers. The complex is clean and tidy and I would qualify the complex as 1 to 2 star. little things on a complex such as this can make life more simple for vacationers . For example: a chair in the accommodation,coffee/tea equipment, having to look for towels every day(towels for rooms were removed every day for laundry and returned sometimes, but invariably one had to go looking. for ladies inadequate lighting in the rooms(most ladies used candles to apply makeup) furniture was so old we gave up trying to open draws and lived out of the suitcase. Toilets were forever blocking,we were one of the lucky ones that our shower worked. The dining areas were quite well laid out and there was a good variety of food, however the major problem with the food was it was only ever luke warm,no matter what time you dined.Be warned however if you leave the table when you get back the table will have been cleared and relaid and someone else sat there. There is a specialy themed dining which you have to book and although it is well presented and in a comfortable atmosphere the food again is only luke warm. One of the major issues with most people is after dining there is no comfortable area to relax with a drink and a chat. As one lady said one tries to dress for dinner and ends up sitting on plastic chairs drinking out of plastic glasses where people have been sat in swimming costumes covered in suntan oil all day. The pools are really well presented and clean and there is adequate sun lounges, however one of the little things yet again is that ther is no small tables between sun lounges where one can put drinks etc, everything goes on the floor. The beach is well presented clean and tidy with adequate sun lounges. The one good thing one can say is that the staff on the complex are cheerful, helpful and friendly and do try their best. Entertainment on the complex is virtually non existant so ensure you take plenty of reading material . In conclusion it is not a place I woud recommend a revisit to.

Fantastic Holiday

I have been back under a week and felt I had to write a review of the most amazing two weeks I have just spent at the Luperon beach resort with my girlfriend.
We spent two weeks including Valentines and my birthday and it was a magical trip, the people are the most friendly I have met in my life and cant do enough for you, the food is good and varied and 'Da Vinci's' - the on site restaurant served us 3 fantastic meals, and the service was amazing.
We took one of the tours with Thomas Cook called 'Mega Trucks', the trip included horse riding, a visit to a local school, cigar factory, coffee plantation and beach. The day is run by local Dominicans, it was the best excursion I have ever been on and again, was out of this world!
The pools were great, service was great, clean and tidy, perfect for families and couples, i cant understand the bad reviews... we will defintalely be going back!

I thought that I must write a review after reading what some people have said. The entertainment was really good, always something to do (even when it rained, they took games to the top bar under the shelter). There was table tennis, basketball, tennis, footbal(soccer), archery, darts, pools and a pool table, the list is endless. The food was very good and the people were the most friendly people I have met in my life. As for the animation team, the whole family loved them- always having a laugh and joke, holding conversations and most speak fluent spanish, english, german french and other languages which made our stay more enjoyable. A let down would be the rooms as they were dull, but with all the goings on we only used it to sleep in so it wasnt too much of a bother. Just got back yesterday and want to go again.

  • Advice: The second time we have been, would LOVE to go again.

I have just returned from Luperon Beach Resort after a two week stay over Christmas and New Year.
Like another reviewer we arrived on 21st Dec and had a long and treacherous drive in pouring rain to the resort.
Check in was speedy and efficient as were the bell boys in transporting your luggage to your room.
Our party had three rooms in Block 14 – rooms very basic – old and in need of some major refurbishment. Our basin had two large black cracks and the shower fell off the wall in my kids room.
The maid worked hard and kept the room clean but it was so dark in there that you couldn’t even read. The corridors outside were very dark.
Security guards were posted right outside our door and the constant communications via their walkie talkies was disturbing late at night.
The hotel has beautiful grounds – it’s a shame that they are not so keen to spend some money on the rooms.
We had two days of continuous rain when we arrived and water was pouring through the restaurant roof and the reception area roof. This is extremely dangerous and is a problem which clearly needs addressing.
The staff work hard in the restaurant. There is a good choice of food but it was not always to our taste. Some nights we had to resort to chip butties!!!
You can only get two alcoholic drinks at a time from the bar so to get seven of us a drink meant 4 of us had to all go to the bar together ( not ideal)
There was nowhere quiet in the evening to sit and have a drink – only one bar was open and all the entertainment took place there. The entertainment is poor and sometimes in poor taste if you have young children. We took refuge in the reception area most evenings under the leaky roof and sitting on damp cushions.
Overall we were very disappointed in our holiday. With three teenagers we hoped the water sports would keep them entertained but the banana boat was expensive and had broken handles and the canoes let in water because the plugs were missing !! Thank goodness they had life jackets.
We paid a lot of money for this holiday – take a tip – look elsewhere for yours
