" best holiday iv had "
Submitted By: sarah kennettRooms are a bit plain but you need to remember you are in the Dominican, we didnt spend much time there any way, The locals came at weekends and were so polite and friendly, the staff go out the way to help and the coctails are very nice, [if you have them remember to ask for Rum/Vodka ect or they some times give you fruit ones.
We met so many nice English,Canadian people and we had the best holiday of a life time.
PS visit the small town, it might look a bit scary but its def not, we went in the day and night and had a great time, Steve s bar is excellent food and people.

Submitted By: sammistarThe excursions were pretty pricey but definatly well worth it.. with the all inclusive food and drink on many of them.
The food in the resort was nice... not a huge amount of variety and people moan about it because it tastes diffeent to our normal british food.. but its nice.. i never had a problem with it.
i would defo reccommend it.. and plan 2 go back soon for much longer =)

" Good All-rounder, but Never Excelled. "
Submitted By: GerkzWe travelled all inclusive with Thomas Cook booked on a last minute deal and, although anxious after reading reviews that this place needed shutting down, we still began our holiday with hopeful optimism and an "it is what you make of it" attitude.
And I am very happy to say that mostly, this hotel exceeded our expectations.
We did find the food fairly repetitive - but we didn't care! We loved it! The waiters and waitresses were all polite - if sometimes a little forgetful with drink orders - and all had good knowledge of English. The restaurants were clean and tidy and, during peak weekend times when the complex is opened to locals, a second buffet restaurant was opened - even though there are over 600 rooms and potentially 1200+ guests at these times, you never felt crowded or rushed. The A la cartes were a very good, relaxing, intimate meal. You may have had to wait a little while for food, but there was a plentiful buffet style starter section which you could return to as often as you liked.
The pools were generally clean and well maintained but, in all honestly, could have done with more time spent on them throughout the day. There was plentiful entertainment around two big pools and two quieter pools which we found we had one of practically to ourselves for the whole two weeks.
The staff were amazingly friendly and, thankfully, did not take offense when I tried to speak Spanish - as bad as I am! Infact, they treated us even better once they saw we were at least trying; and not stood shouting at them in very slow English mono-syllables or trying to order "uno beero Pedro".
Now unfortunately I do need to bring up the main aspect of our holiday which stopped this hotel becoming a 9 or 10 in my review. The "VIP Club" consists of arrogant, obnoxious, sometimes aggressive staff trying to get you to sign up to become a VIP, if you like, and basically get you to return to the hotel (in all honesty, I dont know the details - we never let them get that far!) I accept that they want people returning, and the first time they asked us I politely declined...as I did the second time we were asked, by the SAME gentleman, might I add, a day or so later....as I did the third time we were asked, again by the same gentleman a day or so after that....then the fourth time came around, but by someone different. We were perhaps a little abrupt, but at least thought we could spend our last week without getting hassled every time we tried to leave through the reception....but by the fifth time, again asked by the same guy who'd asked us on times 1,2 and 3, we were so irritated that we were rather rude to this guy. But that didn't stop them, and in a 14 day holiday, they approached us 6 times. First of all (and I remember this like clockwork as we were asked so many times) they would stop you and strike up a conversation, eg "Where are you from?" DO NOT ANSWER THIS QUESTION. They then proceed to drag you (ok - a little strong) to "convince" you to follow them to this room to sign up but "you dont need any money today" - this said to me "But you will need lots of money later!" If that doesn't work, they then try coersion followed by pity. They cut in line at the buffet and generally are just not very nice people...yet they have possibly had the effect they desired as I have spent most of my review advertising them! Thats even more annoying!!!
Ok I've rambled.
Basically, take the VIP club out of Luperon Beach Resort/Luperon Tropical Resort (I never understood why there where two of them???) and this complex, potentially, could be very good indeed. Yes there are issues with its location, yes the hotel shop is expensive, yes excursions were expensive, but this is a third world country brought up under the shadow of the American "Quick-Buck". People want to make a living, and tourism is huge business. My advise is:
* Go with an open mind.
* Embrace their culture, or at least don't be ignorant to it.
* Learn a word or two of Spanish - it goes a long way.
* ENJOY YOURSELF!

" Believe the horrible reviews "
Submitted By: FollingtonWe paid an extra £150.00 for a suite. We had 4 room changes. We too had mould on the walls, electric sockets hanging off walls, lights with no bulbs, the decor is horrible, dirty, none of the furniture matches, some people didn't even unpack. The bathrooms leak, the bath was rusty and where rusted had been painted with emulsion paint. The balconies on many rooms had warn away to the metal structure beneath. What would have been palm roof tops had warn away and leaked. We had torrential rain for 2 days and the restaurant roof leaked continuously, one floor had to be closed. There were cracked tiled walkways.
The food and drinks were horrible. The food repetitive, cold and like a previous reviewer wer ended up eating omlette, soup or a little salad for 2 weeks. The only holiday one can go on and actually lose weight. The cocktails come in tiny plastic cups and all taste the same or if you are for two of the same they differ. Their gin and tonics could wear your insides away. The a la carte was a joke. Just more of the same but with a guaranteed seat for the number in the party. The wine white and red were served from cooler machines as you would orange juice and were watered down.
The beach was not golden. There is only one safe area to swim. The banana boat had seen better days.
Whichever room you have you are never away from noise. It is music all day long. Starts around 9am and finishes around 3am the next day once the disco closes. There is no peace.
We were both ill for at least half of the holiday with tummy upset.
The shops are very expensive. I had a heat rash and had forgotten to take calamine lotion. I had to pay a mere £6.00 for it.
The tours were hugely expensive.
The location is remote (nothing around it at all). Once there unless you go out on the tours you are stranded.
As the holiday went on it appeared we were not the only people experiencing such a dreadful holiday. People were literally waiting to go home. Some had requested to leave after week one only to be told it would cost an extra £500 to get on the flight home.
In its day I am sure it was very good. Its had its time though. Old and run down, it needs a buldozer under it and needs to start again.
We read reviews some were good and some were bad. I wish we had taken heed. I'm sorry all I can recommend is not to go.
A 1 is too high for scoring but there was no 0.

" Excellent Resort Lovely Staff "
Submitted By: Naomi24So much so that I am going back in August and again next year in Jan/Feb.
Definitely the best thing about this resort are the animacion team! They are great and work very hard to provide a fun experience for all the guests, especially Sammy, he can speak English, French, German Italian and of course Spanish and makes every effort to make everyone feel welcome!!! Mario and Donato are good fun too and enjoy having a laugh with everyone!
I recommend sticking around for the animacion teams evening shows at 10pm... I went to see these every night and they were very entertaining!!!! But be patient as the shows are delivered in three languages so that everyone can enjoy what is going on. Also every show ends with the Club dance... and u will be asked to go on stage and join in!!!! Do it! this is a good laugh and u probably wont see these people again after ur holiday so dnt b shy!
The animacion team are at the resort near enough all day, providing activities for kids and adults alike, The activity pool has games and music at 3pm the animacion team come and do their club dance.. a good time to learn it b4 joining in later on after the show!!
Rooms are basic but clean thats the main thing, besides... who really wants to stay in the room anyway IT IS DOMINICAN REPUBLIC!!!!
Food was good, there's something for everyone so I don't see what these other people were complaining about in their reviews! Breakfast is the best! mm pancakes and crispy bacon!!.
Bar and restaurant staff are friendly and happy, some don't understand much English but they do their best to try so be patient and polite... They're not deaf just Spanish speaking so no need to shout at them!!!
I would recommend that you take ur own cup flasks if u don't want to have to order two drinks at a time, The bar staff are happy to fill them up for you! as the cups are pretty small but it is All Inclusive so u can go back as much as you like!!!
Do not use the resorts Cab drivers if possible as they charge 3 times as much as the cabs in Luperon town.
And the guys with the white tops on saying Best Hotels are selling Time Shares so steer clear unless ur actually interested!
If you're a Smoker buy ur cigarettes from Duty free its cheaper.
Mega Trucks excursion is fun and drinks and food are provided' TIP: Take some sweets/pens/pencils etc to give to the local children while passing through the villages.
There's a German lady that offers a catamaran trip for $49 this is cheaper then the reps trip and just as good if not better, you can find her by the beach bar!!
Advice: GO Go Go... it
Activities: Mega Trucks, Ocean World, Catamaran

" Pretty good but there's better.. "
Submitted By: RogueTravllerWhen we arrived at the airport a man with a badge rushed to us and said he worked for the hotel and was going to take us to the bus. We asked him a few times if he worked for Luperon and he said yes. This wasn't being niave, I know from other experiences you usually have people trying to carry your bags for tips. Once we arrived to the bus it was obvious he was lying and was expecting a tip. I don't tip liars. The bus ride to the hotel was rather exciting. The driver weaved in and out of traffic, honking and swerving around people. Gorgeous scenary though.
Once we got to the hotel I was impressed (it was sunny this day!)... I noticed how lush and clean the grounds were. The check in was quick and the staff was great. We were in building 20, and my boyfriend and I were the only ones in our group to have an ocean view.
The room was... mediocre. The beds were basically just a cement platform on the ground with a mattress on top. I still was able to sleep and of course when arriving you do not assume you will be using your room much. The bathroom had flowers and clean towels, and our shower was one of the few in building 20 that actually had hot water. There wasn't much pressure but again, who cares really. I wasn't there for the hotel room. Oh, and because there was so much rain, the ceiling in the bathroom dripped .... right on your head when you're sitting on the toilet. Not exactly the wake up call I wanted! The TV worked most of the time, there were only 2 or 3 english channels. I think I watched more "Charmed' then I wanted. Our power and water went off twice due to the high winds and rain.
The grounds had flowers and plants everywhere, there were peacocks strolling around all over the place and some flamingos in one of the big ponds. The beach was gorgeous. There were a couple of vendors on the path before the beach but were not overly pushy and didn't deter us from walking to the beach. There were tons of chairs and open space. The staff in the store were cool, I had a few funny conversations there. They are open until 11pm every night so it's convenient.
**Side note, if want to buy pop in there, don't expect it to be the same as what you're used to.
One of the pools has 2 waterfalls but was ice cold. This could have been because they are solar heated and well.. there wasn't much sun to heat anything! Every time we went that way it seemed dead and not very tempting to hang out there.
The middle pool had the most action. The music was kinda sporatic, and by the end you'll definitely know a few of the songs from over playing! The bar staff was great, and got to know us well! We met a lot of people around that area, there is a huge sitting area by the stage in the building behind the bar so there were always people in and out to talk to. The pool on the left by the ping pong tables seemed ok, it's where most of the staff and the animacion staff hang out in the day time so if you're a semi good looking girl around there .. you will have some new friends.
Buffet had most of the same staples on a daily basis but I did notice they tried to make things interesting. As mentioned by other reviewers it really wasn't that bad. They had these breaded chicken fingers one day and they were amazing! I think the biggest frustration for those in our group was trying to open those damn ketchup packets!
The Italian A La Carte was our favorite, a little hard to communicate with the wait staff if you have special dietary needs though. The Mexican night was pretty disapointing, the cheese slices on top of everything were rather gross. I had beef fahitas and they were really good other than that. There is no "24 hr snacks" as listed in the brochure, There was some pizza by one of the pools but not every day because of the weather, they put out one of those spinning hot dog things every afternoon by the main pool but they never really got warm. Not too bad though honestly. At night there were a couple guys making burgers and stuff outside of the disco so I guess if you had been drinking and dancing and needed a snack it was good. All very sporatic and not what was told to us before we got there. So as mentioned above, the store might be a good place to go for snacks for those late night drunken cravings.
The shows were alright, some of them very entertaining some of them boring. They had a few things going on in the afternoons to entertain during the rain.
The Animacion people were awesome and very funny. Watch out because they walk around to try and make you participate and dance every night, so if you're shy go to the bar at that time!
We were not able to go on any of the excursions that we booked, they were all cancelled due to the weather. Our tour coordinator was helpful and gave us full refunds with no games or problems. Apparently the best one to go on for the money is the katamaran trip.
The last day we were there we took a 10 minute cab ride into Luperon. Best food we had all week was at Capt. Steve's. An American guy who had a boat and arrived in Luperon and stayed. He's very friendly and comes to chat to all that come in. Very accomodating and the food was great. The waitress spoke english very well too and her little girl was talking to everyone. Very cute. Good burgers and nachos, and whole chicken meals and you can get bottles of rum for $5. There are alot of dogs and cats walking around the streets, and a few that have called Steve's home but they do not bother you. Very friendly but just don't touch them in case. I highly recommend checking this place out if you want to get out for awhile. The town was pretty good but we had told the cab driver to come back in 2 hours so we didn't have much time to explore.
All in all it was pretty average, the services probably would have been better if it hadn't been raining. It was a cheap getaway, gorgeous location but definitely if you're looking for a resport with all the bells and whistles this isn't it.
Advice: Beautiful water and beaches, great people, relatively clean

" D&D from BC "
Submitted By: DarrellThe rooms were only very average, spartan. When we first checked in, the room we were given was brutal, dirty, nothing worked, lights were so weak you could not read. I told my wife that I could not spend 2 weeks in this room. Back to the lobby and requested to see other rooms. They showed us a Junior Suite which was okay but not worth the extra $160 they wanted. By the way the only difference between a Junior Suite and a Superior Deluxe room is a little sitting room. Then they showed us a Superior Deluxe room and it was fine. They said we would have to pay the extra but I pointed out that we had paid for a Superior Deluxe room. The clerk checked our reservation and looked surprised. Plus I would not rank the rooms as 4 Star closer to 21/2. We realize that Central America room ratings are not the same as in North America, but these were still not 4 Star. We were lucky that almost everything in our room worked, only the TV remote would not keep working despite being replaced about 5 times, but we were NOT there to watch TV. Some of the people we met there told us horror stories of their rooms, phones not working, air conditioning not working, bathroom and shower and water problems. We had 1 day of no hot water. We complained and next day it was fine.
The main restaurant buffet was fine, decent selection, but as with every buffet it is tough to keep the food warm.
The A La Carte restaurant (there was only 1 with 4 different theme nights), was very good. Both the service and food was excellent, but it is basically the same food every night just a different theme and a slightly different presentation.
We dealt mostly at the main bar and got good service, especially from Esteban. However when we went to the other bars I felt that they could care less about serving us drinks, if fact we had to almost beg to get a drink.
I read a review about a 24 hour snack bar, which there is NOT. They serve lunch at the extreme east end of the resort for about 2 hours.
We normally use the ocean and beach on holidays but not this year. The beach and the water was dirty. I picked up enough garbage and broken glass off the beach to start a recycling company.
Generally speaking the resort is in dire need of a makeover, it is getting tired.
We met some great people who we hope to remain in contact with.
The reason we will not return is the long flight from British Columbia. I don't think the resort was worth the long flight. The dollar value was not good. For the same price there are many places on the west coast of Mexico that are much nicer.
Advice: Be prepared. This is a third world country, it is extremely dirty with respect to garbage everywhere
Activities: Captain Steve's in Luperon, good food.

" Honest Review "
Submitted By: Polarbear10I guess I will start off with the rooms. My girlfriend and I upgraded our room when we booked to get a partial ocean view...which was actually worth the extra 40 bucks. Our room however had leaks in the bathroom, one leak right above the toilet. the washroom also had these big brown circles on the mirror... you guess is as good as mine as to what caused this. Our sheets got changed every Other day and our towels got picked up at 9 am and were not returned until 4 -5 in the afternoon/evening everyday. The floors leading up to the buildings we were housed in were tiled. This made for a very slipery walk to or from your room if there was any rain at all. The showers had little or no pressure...we got lucky and had hot water, the 6 out of 8 of the other people we travelled with didnt have hot water and their complaints went unheard. Our A/C broke twice and our phone didnt work ever...but you get the idea.
The resort... The advertised 24hr snack bar. This was an out right lie. They didnt feel like it when we were there so the just didnt do it. They advertised hot tubs...they were unheated kiddy pools. The tiles around all the pools were crumbling and this made the resort look cheap. a couple of the table umbrellas around the pool were missing their canvas as well. All the furniture is made of cheap plastic as well, we watched some poor kid fall through his chair while we were drinking beside the pool.
The wait staff...they did an awesome job in the restaurants. But they had exactly no wait staff serving drinks anywhere else in the resort. When you got a drink from the bar, it was served into a cup that holds exactly half a pop can worth of liquid. So we were constantly up and down just for drinks. We got wise and began ordering 4 at a time though, dont worry.
Food and drink... The food was horrible. They served the same crap everyday, at first it was fine, but you can only eat so much garbage before it wears on you. by the last day I was only eating french toast for breakfast. Some of the food was good, but they only served the good stuff once. The alcohol was watered down. word on the resort was that if you wanted real booze mixed into your drink, you would have to ask for it. otherwise you were getting the weak liquor. The beer was ok, but they didnt have any from the tap...it was all bottled, at least from the pool bar anyway.
They only have one restaurant that changes themes everyday so dont be fooled by the 4 different restaurants line.
The disco smelled like vomit and had horrible lighting. They had a strobe light going... seriously? a strobe light? anyway horrible resort, but has pootential if they plug some cash into the holes.
I have stayed at hostels all over Europe and Asia as well as having been to several resorts and they have all had better washrooms :) I only write this review to warn you against going here, sure its cheap but my advice is spend the extra 150 and go to a different resort. Cheap is good sometimes, but not in this case.
Cheers
Advice: Typical tropical country, similarities to cuba and mexico

Submitted By: PeteapeteThe food is very good there is something for everybody
The not so great, over a 14 day period we had hot water once the rest it was either tepid or cold, 4 times we had no water at all, the room was not made up 4 times.
The clean towels did not come until 5.00 every day sometimes we only had one towel
The weekends are as mentioned before just like a cattle market, the locals don't seem to have seen food before they just pile their plates as high as possible, eat part of it and leave the rest, they also don't believe in queuing
We had some rain on the last two days the bathroom ceiling started to sag then it leaked steadily onto the floor, other guests were also experiencing similar things
The whole site is in dire need of renovation there are cracks everywhere, in and around the pools, the paths and the buildings, There is paint flaking all around nothing has been spent on it for years
It is a shame really because it could be a marvelous place the setting is wonderful
Advice: I have travelled to many places around the world, this would rate as below par
