I have no complaints about the resort itself, but the locals that come in at the weekends are rude and have no respect for anybody else, they go around the corridors screaming, throwing your stuff off the sunbeds so they can sit on it, pushing you out the way so they can get food in the dinner room and taking the whole pizzas at the snack bar and only eating 2 slices! Some of the barmen were rude and served the locals over you, it seemed as though if you spoke Spanish you got a better service.
The holiday rep Claire was crap to say the least, she didn’t tell us any information about the locals or things that were free such as all the watersports. She was rude and actually told somebody that they had an attitude problem when it was really the other way around! Don’t expect to find any information out from her because she really is quite lazy and can’t be arsed to do anything.
If you travel with Thomas Cook then do not book any of the excursions with them, book them with Rosa down at the marina as you could be saving around $40 per person and Rosa’s trips are much better! When we was there they did a trip down to an island in the Caribbean, DO NOT go on this trip! It was cancelled from the Saturday because of tropical storm Emily, then it was cancelled on the Tuesday for an unknown reason, then on the Saturday they got 1 meal at 1 o clock and this trip was from 5 in the morning until 11 at night! I would recommend the white water rafting and the trip where you go to the waterfalls, they are amazing and are once in a lifetime trips.
The location of the hotel is ideal because its not in Puerto Plata where you get harassed everywhere but its not just in the middle of nowhere, luperon town is just a 20 minute walk away from the hotel or $4 each way for a taxi.
The people who work on the watersports counter are excellent, friendly and want you to learn to do things, whilst I was at the resort I had a windsurfing lesson and the guy was excellent and patient, they were a right laugh so make sure you don’t miss out on any of the free water sports which include banana boat (you have to book in advance), windsurfing, kayaking and more.
No complaints on the room it was just average but watch out for the maids as the people next door had $80 go missing from behind a picture in their suitcase! The swimming pools and the beach were excellent, but I wouldn’t like to be at the hotel when it was full as when we went it was very empty. the waterfall was on once in our 2 week holiday (when the locals were in of course).

We read all the bad reviews and thought about changing our holiday, then thought we would make our own mind up. On arriving at the resort we thought it was a bit run down but not as bad as some reviews made out. The rep (Clare) was unhelpful and gave us misleading information. At our welcome meeting she told us that the Dominicans that came in at the weekends were friendly lovely people. As we had read all these bad things on the Dominicans that come in at the weekend we thought that the people that wrote these reviews were prejudice after all why shouldn’t they have a weekend break in their own country! then we discovered why, they are (I hate to say this) bloody awful!! They really do go wild at the weekend their like a swarm of bees that just take over. they are all on heat, the men and teenagers don’t just look they stare and its like they are having sex with you, my husband would be sitting next to me looking at them but they just looked at him then carried on! they didn’t give a dam my husband couldn’t believe it. The girls were just as bad hissing as the men as they walked passed even when they had their girlfriends with them, I’m sure they just like to intimidate us Brits. The reception never have any change unless you change it to pesos. so if you get dollars make sure you have small notes. The horrid rep Clare said that they are all so poor that we should tip them. well on our third day I put a few bits in a bag for the maid and some cash, we had gone back to the room for something and she was in there, now I didn’t expect her to get on her hands and knees but a simple thank you would of been nice, but she said nothing, I thought stuff you! Also the rep said that if you wanted your hair braided they will accept $20 well we offered $25 and she wouldn’t accept it, my hair is not long its shoulder length so if they are that poor why wouldn’t they accept this? You may notice that some of the Dominicans wear designer clothes own ipods. The shops are terrible they wanted £6 for deodorant!! The barman were lovely the animation team were funny a bit odd but ok, they did have an accident on the stage with one of the girls they were pretending to hang her but the rope broke and she fell they had to call an ambulance we never saw her again just hope she was ok. The trip to ocean world was great if you have kids or not you should go, our kids loved it. The catamaran would of been great but sea was rough so most of us were sick. I had a water infection so spoke to the rep Clare and asked her if she knew where I could get the medication from she just said "the pharmacy in Luperon village” and walked off I thought oh thanks a bunch then found out that the shop in the resort could order the stuff for you, now she lives at this resort why couldn’t she tell us that. I think that she has forgotten why she is there. Despite all this we did have a good holiday but would not return to this resort.

OK Where do I start, Date of departure 05/06/2005 thinking we were to fly at 10.25am told flight would be flying at 12.25 actually flew at 16.00. Not good start as no other flights where delayed up to us departing NO reason given for delay!
On arrival at the Airport we where charged one dollar per case to be taken to the coach and again one dollar per case to be lifted from the floor onto the coach be warned by this because they never have change for $10!
Arrived at our resort after 1 and a half hour roller coaster ride through streets of what can only be described as parasites jeering and shouting at all the women on board, again having to hand out cash for a job they are employed to do at the resort as porters!
Most of the poor reports you have heard are true but we went into the holiday with a open mind and found that if you look hard enough you could find fault with any destination but what we disliked the most was the locals on the weekends infested the resort with no respect for the holiday makers wanting a bit of peace ( shouting, invading personal space i.e. sitting on the end of your sun bed, banging on your door in the early hours, unwelcome remarks too the girls, and turning the meal times into a inedible mess).
Also don’t let the brochure fool you! the swim up bar was never in use, the waterfall fell for one day in two weeks and one of the four pools was dangerously half empty for a full week.

The Dominican Republic is on of the poorest islands in the Caribbean, this is reflected in the standards of the resort.
It is a very tired looking resort in dire need of a face lift. Many of the facilities were in a bad state of repair, For example, the gym equipment was beyond repair and the saunas were empty and dirty. The tennis court was like a ploughed field.
The food was appalling, resulting in my wife and I eating out most of the time.
Our first room was in a disgusting state with mould and paint hanging off the ceiling. The shower and air conditioning did not work and the toilet was continually flushing. After complaining bitterly, we were moved to a better condition room where the air conditioning worked most of the time. There was no kettle or tea making facilities and although there was a fridge in the room, it was only stocked after paying $10 for some bottles of soft drinks and water.
There are open drains by the pool, many safety fences were broken or missing and UK health and safety would have a hay day there. Many lights were missing or broken, or loose wires hanging down. The entertainment was a joke.
To top it all the place is a popular resort for the German, French, Spanish, and Canadians. Hence early morning towels on beds were the priority.
The beach was dirty, with cigarette butts everywhere, and as cows roamed freely, you had to watch out which Frisbee you picked up.
We met a couple that had been coming to this resort for ten years, we were assured that this was their last visit to the resort. Everyone British person we spoke to was appalled at the conditions and like us, were complaining to our agents.
Everyone who embarked on trips were bitterly disappointed
and one family paid $250 for a helicopter trip, to find on the day they were due to fly, no-one collected them and when we left the report last week, they were desperately trying to get their money back.
It is the biggest resort I have ever stayed at, and very noisy for this time of year, most nights we were woken by banging doors, young Spanish knocking our door then running away, and our phone ringing in the middle of the night for no apparent reason. There were incidents with drunken French and Spanish teenagers, and the Germans were there usual arrogant selves demanding the bar music be turned down all the time. One German actually pulled the wires out of a speaker while we were there. Say no more.
On the whole, very disappointed, we have been ‘all inclusive’ holidaying for over 10 years and this resort was the worse ever. To complete the holiday, our rep informed us on the day we were leaving that First Choice are about to remove the resort from their brochures.

I went on holiday in September going into October and hardly enjoyed my stay.
The rooms had bugs, the showers were broken & the toilet didn’t work. They had no food for children, there was nothing to do, it was noisy & the floors were slippy,
I would never go back.

Lepuron beach is one of the worst resorts I have ever been to, the food was second rate having the same menu every day, the beach was full of local people who were doing unhygienic santry in the sea in the end you did not want to go on the beach, the standard of the rooms was pleasant.
We had know entertainment at night, They had people selling timeshare which unfortunate we did buy and would like to warn people that it is a con to date we have received know paper work or contact numbers from the head office, they have been taking two payments a month out of our account, which was not meant to start until October 04, they started in Aug 04.
These people work from inside the complex and call them selves wastelands or Best Hotels. Please be warned of this.
The pools were not cleaned and were very dirty, we complained about this and was moved within one dayafter complaining so we had a week their and a week in another hotels which was super.
Luperon is classed as a 4 star hotel I would not give it a 2 star
The young boys on the beach pester the young girls who are with their faimlys I would not recommend this resort to any body.

My wife and I booked the Luperon Beach for a 7 night stay on an all inclusive basis.
Initially we found the resort to be pleasant and friendly despite the early downpour.
The apartment was reasonably good size with all the usual amenities and no real problems to mention.
Plenty of bars and pools around the resort catered for the day time and evening with a nice choice of beach side snack bars through lunch serving basic but fairly good choice of snacks for those not wishing to use the buffet restaurant.
Breakfast and evening meals at the buffet were both of an equally good variety with some varying quality, although the large choice usually found us both satisfied and happy and able to try different meals through the theme nights. The a-la-carte listed were not running except for two and not of any real quality. Buffet food served waiter style with some theme garnish, but still fun with plenty of wine on the beach!
The beach was typically Caribbean and white sandy heaven with good water sport centre available with some excellent marine life for keen snorkellers and scuba-divers.
On the not so good side, the whole resort looked slightly 'tired' and in need of a little tlc, the overall polish was lacking for a 4* resort and the night entertainment was brief, (2-3 hours total) but mostly fun.
The gym facilities were a couple of sets of basic dumbbells, a rickety looking multi-gym and a broken belt-resistance fitness cycle (contradiction in terms!) and a couple of tennis courts. Definitely not 4*!
In summary the resort catered for our needs but didn’t leave us rushing to get back. No real problems, but no real areas of shining brilliance either, but you get what you pay for. A family rating of 3* max from us, but don’t be put off if you can get a deal.

Tropical Luperon
I am a fussy traveller – Last year we went 5 star to the Maldives. I have to say that after reading the reviews on here I did not hold much hope, however I really was pleasantly surprised.
The flight was with Thomas Cook. We all had individual TVs in the headrests in front of us. The flight was fine. The seats are narrow but the legroom is ok. We also had decent films on the way there and back. Flight time on the way out was 7.45hrs and on the way back around 8 hrs.
We stayed in block 20, which was almost empty, so lovely and quiet. Our room was very large with 2 king-size beds, which were extremely comfortable. We had a TV with some good American channels that show films most afternoons and comedy in the evenings. We had a great balcony overlooking beautiful, lush tropical gardens. These really were lovely, with large fishponds and flamingos.
Our bathroom was fine and very clean and the shower was good. Always had hot water and we had fresh towels every day. Our maid was brilliant – always remember to say Hola! And leave a tip – it really helps.
The food in the buffet was good – I am real foodie and was expecting the food to be terrible but it really wasn’t. There was a great choice – to the point where we did not get bored of the food in the 2 weeks we were there. The great thing is that you can also go to the 4 a la carte restaurants once per week – which adds to the variety. The food and service in these is really good. The food was always piping hot and nobody that I knew of was ill.
The pools were all really clean and had lots of shady areas.
The beach – one end – that is not really for hotel use is very dirty – full of rubbish but that is the way that the local people use the beaches - as dumping grounds. The main area of the beach is great though – clean and great to swim in. There are quiet areas in the middle of the beach where you can sit and chill.
The snack bars at lunchtime by the beach are a great – BBQ chicken and salad, freshly made stone baked pizzas, chips, pasta etc. – all really good.
Whilst there I would really recommend taking a trip to Luperon. It is nice to wander around and sit in the few local bars.
The entertainment was fantastic – again, I have no idea what people who say it’s awful are on about. They are great – the dancing is great and they try really hard.#
The best thing and the worst thing about this resort is the people. The best – the locals they are great. I don’t understand the comments that are on here about them over running the place at the weekends and behaving badly – what a load of rubbish, just smile and be friendly and they will take a genuine interest in you and what you do.
The worst – the attitude of some British holidaymakers there. You might not get you drink mixed exactly the way you do at home – but if you want that then do us all a favour and stay at home!
Take the time to say Hola and smile - the staggering number of people who did not say please or thank you was astounding. We really enjoyed our stay and would whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone.
