Luperon Beach Resort Hotel Reviews
" Having read some the dismal reviews I... "
Submitted By: Mrs S TBeing lazy we got a taxi to the small marina and were made very welcome by the people in the bar there. Susie (a tour rep) talked us into taking a water taxi more of a motorized raft) to the town. Very cheap and great fun, we were even given a tour of the bay before landing, then greeted by a young local boy who showed us where to go. Food was plentiful with a great choice and if you take any trips, the Dominican Discovery and Ocean World are to be recommended.
The only complaint was that the locals visiting on the weekends were a complete and utter disgrace, greedy, rude, noisy, but that would not put me off visiting this place again, as we had such a brilliant holiday.

" After reading some of the reviews I... "
Submitted By: Ms A MarsdenThe rooms were spotless, clean towels, beds made and fresh water in the fridge every day. The food is amazing, lots of variety even for the pickiest eater, I managed to put on half a stone.
The entertainment team were great, with water polo, volleyball and all sorts of games through the day and shows at night, they even have their own club dance you can join in.
You can also do snorkeling and kayaking on the beach which is just next door to the resort. If you are looking to go on any trips I would recommend the Mega Trucks (Dominican Discovery) but take some sweets with you for the children in the village as they are very poor, and really appreciate them.
The only down side to the holiday was the Locals that come in on a weekend. They can be a bit rowdy as they’re like any other group of teenagers, but nothing like what I was expecting.
All in all this was an excellent holiday. I would go back tomorrow if I could. I would definitely recommend it to anyone and look forward to going back as soon as possible.
Ignore all the bad reviews some people just like to whinge about the smallest things.

" Well, where can I start I have now... "
Submitted By: Miss J M RawlingsI found the food exceptional with food to suit everybody’s needs, there was English for the people not willing to eat local cuisine, there was a lovely range of seafood including lobster, muscles and squid.
The resort itself I found very relaxing and enjoyable, as I could walk about without my parents knowing where I was going. The peacocks walking freely around the resort were loveable and sweet.
The rooms weren't the best I've stayed in but you are hardly in them and when you are, usually it’s when you are asleep. When I had my second trip, I found that the bathrooms had been refurbished and so the room was quite nice.
I've saved the best till last...The animation team! These guys tried their best all day, everyday to make everyone join in the games and dancing that they put on. The shows made me feel like joining a dancing class again, as the shows they put on were quite magnificent to watch and when the dancers had their days off, the entertainment turned to comedy with shows like Mr Luperon, where men are on stage making a fool of themselves. If you ever go be sure to be mates with Felix, Donato, Ricardo and DJ Moy, these are the best lads you could meet, plus they speak the best English. The rest of the gang for instance Daniel, Kenya, Nairovi etc. are all dead canny but don’t speak much English.
I'm sorry if I’ve bored you a bit, but I just have to let everyone know how much of an excellent place it is to stay and don’t be put off with bad comments, its just fussy people having a go. I saw lots of people who had gone back to the hotel when I went back the second time, so it’s not just me who loves this place!
Hope to see you there again!

" What a great holiday this was, with 4... "
Submitted By: Mrs L LockIf all you want is a chilled out, restful holiday with no fighting for loungers and plenty to eat and drink then the Luperon fits the bill. Its off the beaten track so there is not much to do off site but the taxi service is pretty good, I even took a trip across the border into Haiti with my driver, a bit scary but what the heck lol.
Its a lot windier than the south and I found the breeze refreshing. The beach while lovely is not the best for swimming as there is a slight incline and the water is choppy, never the less the water was warm and ok to swim in. The peacocks if they settle outside your room are noisy and a real pain waking you through the night but I bought some earplugs and that sorted them out. Entertainment not great, they do have a band with a really good singer most nights but the animation team while they try their best are not up to much. Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the much needed rest I got at this hotel.
The grounds are beautiful, the people wonderful and the only down side was really the other guests, some looked as if they had swallowed whole sour lemons but you get that where ever you go. Yes the hotel has areas that are a little on the shabby side but this is a huge resort.
I took a bad fall on a small pothole and badly grazed my knee the doctor on site charged me $92 to clean it and apply some cream, watch out for that he has a standard charge before he even looks at you. Bottled water is readily available but I took a large empty bottle when I went out and got the bar staff to fill it each time for me, boy did I drink some pineapple juice lol.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a quiet get away and a restful time.
p.s. avoid traveling with Thomas Cook if you can, they squeeze you like sardines in the aeroplane and its a long flight.

Submitted By: Mrs GH GailFood was plentiful and varied. Fish was amazing. The staff was wonderful especially Animation. They were very friendly, helpful, and amusing. The same Animation Staff were the stars of the Shows. Jacqueline the choreographer is a very talented and creative young woman. The dancing was excellent. There was plenty of opportunity for audience participation.
The pools were kept clean and lots of activities were offered there. The Beach is average but water is a little rough. Snorkelling was not great because of roughness. The best part of the trip was getting to know the Dominicans and their culture. What beautiful people. I wish I could say the same for the guests at the hotel. Many were rude and obnoxious.
Luckily we found some great people from Alberta Canada to be with. All in all we had a very nice vacation.

" Hi
I’m only 13 but i... "
I’m only 13 but i had a great holiday, don’t listen to all that rubbish everyone says about how awful this holiday was..... it was brilliant!! The rooms were lovely and cool, it was great walking into it after being in the hot sunshine all day!! The pools were lush and clean, also they were close to all the bars ..... a big +! Ignore what that woman said about the young boys bothering all the girls .... they were the animation team just doing their job and they weren’t just bothering the girls they would ask everyone they saw if they wanted to join in the many activities that was going on !! That was also great, you were never bored since there was always stuff to do for people all ages.
The animation team were great, sooooo cani and soooooo chatty- so much fun ! They always put on a good show at the night time so don’t listen to all this rubbish about there wasn’t anything to do at night. + there was a disco open all night and my mam and her friend sue found it great , dancing in there till light time again so I don’t see why anyone else wouldn’t!! + there was always a singer or a band playing at night time so if you were just after a quiet drink with some music it had that !
The beaches were lush !!!!!!!! White sand , blue sea it was proper gorge!!!! :)
The food was great, alot to pick from and I’m very very picky at what I eat!! + I’m a kid and I loved the food proving the others who said there was nothing to eat for the children must have really boring children not wanting to try new things past McDonalds chips and chicken nuggets!!!!!!
I made great mates there had a mint time, got a lush tan (since I don’t get any sun in Newcastle), learned how to do Spanish dancing, tried new food mmmmmmm, went to a island in the middle of the sea which was a sandbank which was fab! (its one of the trips you can go on) so PLZ DONT LISTEN TO THE BAD COMENTS ABOUT TIS PLACE BECAUSE I HAD A BRILL HOLIDAY, 1 OF THE BEST EVER SO I DEFENTLY RECOMEND IT !! ITS WELL WORTH IT! I DONT KNOW WHERE THE OTHERS WENT ON THEIR HOLIDAY SAYING ALL THOSE BAD THINGS BECAUSE THEY DIDNT COME ON THIS ONE!!!!

" Tropical Luperon
I am... "
I am a fussy traveller – Last year we went 5 star to the Maldives. I have to say that after reading the reviews on here I did not hold much hope, however I really was pleasantly surprised.
The flight was with Thomas Cook. We all had individual TVs in the headrests in front of us. The flight was fine. The seats are narrow but the legroom is ok. We also had decent films on the way there and back. Flight time on the way out was 7.45hrs and on the way back around 8 hrs.
We stayed in block 20, which was almost empty, so lovely and quiet. Our room was very large with 2 king-size beds, which were extremely comfortable. We had a TV with some good American channels that show films most afternoons and comedy in the evenings. We had a great balcony overlooking beautiful, lush tropical gardens. These really were lovely, with large fishponds and flamingos.
Our bathroom was fine and very clean and the shower was good. Always had hot water and we had fresh towels every day. Our maid was brilliant – always remember to say Hola! And leave a tip – it really helps.
The food in the buffet was good – I am real foodie and was expecting the food to be terrible but it really wasn’t. There was a great choice – to the point where we did not get bored of the food in the 2 weeks we were there. The great thing is that you can also go to the 4 a la carte restaurants once per week – which adds to the variety. The food and service in these is really good. The food was always piping hot and nobody that I knew of was ill.
The pools were all really clean and had lots of shady areas.
The beach – one end – that is not really for hotel use is very dirty – full of rubbish but that is the way that the local people use the beaches - as dumping grounds. The main area of the beach is great though – clean and great to swim in. There are quiet areas in the middle of the beach where you can sit and chill.
The snack bars at lunchtime by the beach are a great – BBQ chicken and salad, freshly made stone baked pizzas, chips, pasta etc. – all really good.
Whilst there I would really recommend taking a trip to Luperon. It is nice to wander around and sit in the few local bars.
The entertainment was fantastic – again, I have no idea what people who say it’s awful are on about. They are great – the dancing is great and they try really hard.#
The best thing and the worst thing about this resort is the people. The best – the locals they are great. I don’t understand the comments that are on here about them over running the place at the weekends and behaving badly – what a load of rubbish, just smile and be friendly and they will take a genuine interest in you and what you do.
The worst – the attitude of some British holidaymakers there. You might not get you drink mixed exactly the way you do at home – but if you want that then do us all a favour and stay at home!
Take the time to say Hola and smile - the staggering number of people who did not say please or thank you was astounding. We really enjoyed our stay and would whole-heartedly recommend it to anyone.

" I have no complaints about the resort... "
Submitted By: Mr DP caden

The holiday rep Claire was crap to say the least, she didn’t tell us any information about the locals or things that were free such as all the watersports. She was rude and actually told somebody that they had an attitude problem when it was really the other way around! Don’t expect to find any information out from her because she really is quite lazy and can’t be arsed to do anything.

If you travel with Thomas Cook then do not book any of the excursions with them, book them with Rosa down at the marina as you could be saving around $40 per person and Rosa’s trips are much better! When we was there they did a trip down to an island in the Caribbean, DO NOT go on this trip! It was cancelled from the Saturday because of tropical storm Emily, then it was cancelled on the Tuesday for an unknown reason, then on the Saturday they got 1 meal at 1 o clock and this trip was from 5 in the morning until 11 at night! I would recommend the white water rafting and the trip where you go to the waterfalls, they are amazing and are once in a lifetime trips.

The location of the hotel is ideal because its not in Puerto Plata where you get harassed everywhere but its not just in the middle of nowhere, luperon town is just a 20 minute walk away from the hotel or $4 each way for a taxi.

The people who work on the watersports counter are excellent, friendly and want you to learn to do things, whilst I was at the resort I had a windsurfing lesson and the guy was excellent and patient, they were a right laugh so make sure you don’t miss out on any of the free water sports which include banana boat (you have to book in advance), windsurfing, kayaking and more.

No complaints on the room it was just average but watch out for the maids as the people next door had $80 go missing from behind a picture in their suitcase! The swimming pools and the beach were excellent, but I wouldn’t like to be at the hotel when it was full as when we went it was very empty. the waterfall was on once in our 2 week holiday (when the locals were in of course).

" We read all the bad reviews and... "
Submitted By: Mrs D Greaves

As we had read all these bad things on the Dominicans that come in at the weekend we thought that the people that wrote these reviews were prejudice after all why shouldn’t they have a weekend break in their own country! then we discovered why, they are (I hate to say this) bloody awful!!

They really do go wild at the weekend their like a swarm of bees that just take over. they are all on heat, the men and teenagers don’t just look they stare and its like they are having sex with you, my husband would be sitting next to me looking at them but they just looked at him then carried on! they didn’t give a dam my husband couldn’t believe it. The girls were just as bad hissing as the men as they walked passed even when they had their girlfriends with them, I’m sure they just like to intimidate us Brits.

The reception never have any change unless you change it to pesos. so if you get dollars make sure you have small notes.

The horrid rep Clare said that they are all so poor that we should tip them. well on our third day I put a few bits in a bag for the maid and some cash, we had gone back to the room for something and she was in there, now I didn’t expect her to get on her hands and knees but a simple thank you would of been nice, but she said nothing, I thought stuff you!

Also the rep said that if you wanted your hair braided they will accept $20 well we offered $25 and she wouldn’t accept it, my hair is not long its shoulder length so if they are that poor why wouldn’t they accept this? You may notice that some of the Dominicans wear designer clothes own ipods. The shops are terrible they wanted £6 for deodorant!!

The barman were lovely the animation team were funny a bit odd but ok, they did have an accident on the stage with one of the girls they were pretending to hang her but the rope broke and she fell they had to call an ambulance we never saw her again just hope she was ok.

The trip to ocean world was great if you have kids or not you should go, our kids loved it. The catamaran would of been great but sea was rough so most of us were sick.

I had a water infection so spoke to the rep Clare and asked her if she knew where I could get the medication from she just said "the pharmacy in Luperon village” and walked off I thought oh thanks a bunch then found out that the shop in the resort could order the stuff for you, now she lives at this resort why couldn’t she tell us that. I think that she has forgotten why she is there.

Despite all this we did have a good holiday but would not return to this resort.
Submitted By: Mr S Honhold

On arrival at the Airport we where charged one dollar per case to be taken to the coach and again one dollar per case to be lifted from the floor onto the coach be warned by this because they never have change for $10!

Arrived at our resort after 1 and a half hour roller coaster ride through streets of what can only be described as parasites jeering and shouting at all the women on board, again having to hand out cash for a job they are employed to do at the resort as porters!

Most of the poor reports you have heard are true but we went into the holiday with a open mind and found that if you look hard enough you could find fault with any destination but what we disliked the most was the locals on the weekends infested the resort with no respect for the holiday makers wanting a bit of peace ( shouting, invading personal space i.e. sitting on the end of your sun bed, banging on your door in the early hours, unwelcome remarks too the girls, and turning the meal times into a inedible mess).

Also don’t let the brochure fool you! the swim up bar was never in use, the waterfall fell for one day in two weeks and one of the four pools was dangerously half empty for a full week.
Once we arrived at our hotel we found staff ever so friendly they would go out of their way to make sure you had a great time. Within 2 days we were in our own crowd of 17 people adults and kids, every time we went to eat or go around the pools we all stayed in our group. Even on the evenings we went for al a carte meals the staff were very helpful at sitting us all together. Great service.
Short walk to the marina, which we did on three occasions. We felt safe to wonder around as people here were also friendly. Suzi who works and lives there is American and told us of different trips to go on. Very advisable to take sweets, pencils, pens and note books, well liked by the locals we even left one of our mp3s too the shop assistant Angelina, she was lovely. £30 to us one months wages to them.
Keep off the 151 saw many a person fighting with themselves after drinking this stuff one man thought he was woody wood pecker after 151, his face was a mess next morning.
The only down side to my holiday was I had sickness and the other for 9 out of the 14 days. There were mites in our room which were coming out of the wood frame around the headboard onto the pillows also ants in the juice I was drinking during the evening. I was confined to the room once again. The room was fumigated out 3 times which finally did work. I complained several times to our rep which he noted down, but no satisfaction on our return, a case of tough luck.
We’ve got to say that we all still keep in touch with each other after coming home so worthwhile holiday even just for the holiday mates we now have.
