My wife and I stayed here and had a wonderful holiday.
It is very modern, very clean, lovely and cool, lovely views. Our room was clean and comfortable and continental breakfast as expected.
The location couldn't have been better. Perfectly placed to be near everything without having everything on top of you.
Best of all, it was opposite the fabulous and famous Captains Bar. What more could you ask for?
Typically Greek friendly helpful staff made us feel really welcome.
I am going again in mid August 2007. Enjoy

Very clean family run business, but as others have said. The owners don't exactly give you a great welcome, we found out about most of the things we did by visiting other bars.
The breakfast is not worth it, bread, crappy continental toast and a cup of tea/coffee... whilst other places offered a far better choice including an English/continental mix.
The brochure shows the really nice rooms. Unfortunately the room we had whilst having a great view left a lot to be desired....the bathroom was a joke 6ft x 3 ft, the shower was a shower head screwed to the wall, no shower tray, no curtain so when in the shower everything in the tiny bathroom got soaked. Very hot room even with the windows open A/C available for 40 Euros a week.
The Captains Bar was good, very friendly and a good night out also very handy for babysitting the kids.
All in all I would give the Captains about 7/10 needs to work on the hospitality, breakfast and bathrooms.

Skala was a very nice place to stay. there were plenty of restaurants to try in the evenings. The Captains House hotel was very clean and the breakfast was good. We hired a car as we like to see the area and we walked to the old village of Skala with the Thomson reps on a Saturday afternoon.
This was interesting as we could see the damage the earthquake had done in 1953. There is enough to do in Skala, but if you like to see the rest of Kefalonia there is lake Melissini and the Drogarata caves. which I would recommend. Also the folklore museum in Argostoli, the capital.

Skala is a great resort with plenty to do and enough places to eat to make anybody happy.
The Captain’s House was clean and had Sky TV and sports to watch in the communal areas.
The staff however were not overly friendly. When we go abroad we like the hotel owner/manager to know and volunteer information about the resort but this did not happen.
For the seven days the only information on offer was the fact that the bar opposite (The Captain’s Bar, their own business) is a great place to go to drink.
The breakfast, what breakfast! We have been to Greece many times but this breakfast really takes the biscuit.
1 cup of coffee or tea, 1 glass of weak squash, 1 piece of bread (not Sundays) and 1 packet of continental packet toast.
You can help yourself to some Cornflakes - but the milk tastes like water. Powdered I suspect.
We will return to Kefalonia and Skala but not there.

The accommodation was exceptionally clean, a small family run hotel. Breakfast however, became tedious, serving the same cereal and packet toast everyday for 2 weeks.
There was no swimming pool at the hotel, however the beach was only about 50m away. The hotel bar was one of the liveliest in skala but also one of the most expensive. They did, however, have a happy hour at about 6.30pm.
Skala is a lovely resort, small but adequate for a couple of weeks. The beach was beautiful, very clean and sandy. Restaurants were well priced and the food was very good. Drink prices were not much cheaper than at home.
It really is worthwhile hiring a car and exploring the island, there are many places to visit and some incredible views to be seen.

Just returned from 1 week at Captains House. Clean and spacious room which was directly opposite the Captains Bar - which is very very lively.
Immediately thought there would be problems with the noise but as the doors onto the balcony are d/glazed this was not a problem.
Breakfast is only orange juice/coffee/bread and packet toast /cornflakes - but as most nights we ate late this breakfast was sufficient.
Staff are friendly - just not in your face friendly! Everywhere in the hotel is spotless. It was a very pleasant hotel.
