We stay every year for the half term holiday in October! and we just cannot fault this hotel! it is fantastic. The Kiko Royal Suites are perfect and it gives us a holiday just knowing our children are comfortable and happy in their OWN bedroom! Yes, the pools are a little... more

This is a 5 star hotel, but should be 6 star! We returned on Saturday 16th October 2010 from a 2 week break, which was propably the most relaxing one we have ever had. It started as soon as we walked through the doors.. quickly dealt with at reception, good explanation of... more

We spent 9 wonderful days at the Princesa Yaiza in February 2010 at the end of a 6 week stay in Playa Blanca. I would particularly mention the staff at the hotel who were friendly, courteous and efficient at all times, and the spa for a wonderful, professional service. We... more

We stayed in a suite - but luxury is not a term we would associate with this hotel. The advertised view of ocean and pool - was the beautiful view of the "Burger King". The room had a stale smell, and the telephone did not work. After much negotiation, we were moved to a... more

Maybe i was expecting a little too much having been blown away by the many positive reviews, but it is safe to say i wasn't blown away by the Yaiza. Don’t get me wrong it is a nice hotel, but then again at £270 per room per night you would expect it to be. The positives:... more

Great with kids
Went with 2 children - a four year old and a baby, and two grandparents. The rooms are great - 2 bedded with 2 bathrooms, one a shower and loo, the other a bath and loo. Plenty of storage, kitchenette etc. Large rooms. Food served in our building and main hotel. Close to facilities in the main resort, but also good food at the hotel especially the Japanese restaurant. Parents were upgraded to a room next to ours in the suite area. There were lots of pools for our daughter, she loved the food, and it's on the beach. There is also a kids club if you need it. It was just very relaxing and there were no problems at all!
Huge resort
We spent a week here for the February half-term with our two young children. The hotel is very handsome (rainforest atrium, in the footsteps of the Manrique-designed Las Salinas) and also vast - a lot of walking to get from A to B. Good points were: large, clean and attractive rooms and bathrooms; tolerance of children and real efforts to entertain them in the evening; lavish breakfast buffets; abundance of swimming-pools; reasonable proximity to Papagayo, the best beaches on the island, though don't rely on the local taxi drivers to take you there on the unmetalled road; and generally friendly and well-intentioned staff. Bad points were: bar service of glacial slowness - order your cocktails 48 hours in advance; mediocre dining; weak coffee (c.1970 British Rail); and general grot of 21st century Playa Blanca (not the hotel's fault).
Mixed Blessings
I booked the Hotel Yaiza through a Sunworld package as a fiftyth birthday gift for my friend. We shared a double room for one week from january 8th to 15th. The hotel itself is a splendid building, tastefully designed with natural materials. We were escorted to our double room which was well appointed with a bedroom, plenty of storage space, a good boulble bathroom with bath and shower and a spacious living room. The hotel is 5 star so we expected service to be of that standard. Breakfast was great with plenty of varietybut the hotel restuarants which we tried on the night we arrived and before we left were mediocre by Dublin standards and just as expensive. There are plenty of small restuarants within walking distance which do ok but not spectacular food for around 50 euro with a bottle of wine. The room service was good and efficient especially the ice service!! which always arrived promptly after 10 minutes. Pools and surrounding areas were comfortable and well kept. The downside was the service in the hotel bars and pool restuarant which was so slow and sometimes nonexistent. The bar waiter was surly and often rude and on two occasions we left after our order was ignored. In fact service and levels of customer service on the resort was indifferent. I got the impression that everyone is fed up with tourists which is a shame since it is a major part of the economy. We were also badly ripped off at the camera shop Canaria Electrica and had to enlist the help of the police. Both the police and the hotel staff were extremely helpful and we lgot our money back. Hotel also organised a day trip to Timofaya which was really interesting. If i were to return to the Princess Yaiza and this is not a cheap week, I would suggest they train or fire some of their bar staff.
5* hotel 2* service
We stayed at the Princesa Yaiza in October 2003. The hotel accomodation is excellent and it is in a good location. The rooms are huge and very well furnished. The bathrooms are georgeous. However the service is poor and restaurants are below average. During our 1 week stay, we had to contact room service twice because something was not done, too few towels, no pillows etc. There was a long queue for breakfast many mornings because presumably they were understaffed and could not clear the tables fast enough. Although there were 5 restaurants only, 3 were open in the evenings at any one time (peak half term holiday). The food was repetitive buffets and uninspiring, although they could cook fresh for you, this was slow with queues of people waiting. The staff looked unhappy and were not friendly. I overheard one guest asking where he could get internet access, he was simply told "we don't have internet access" as if that was quite acceptable of a 5* hotel, no apology. (You should know that most 4* hotels in the area supply this eg Rubicon Palace). The pool was freezing, so much money spent, but not on heating the pool!. On our return we complained to the hotel in writing...no acknowledgment, no response. Our advice: check out H10 Hotels in the area, they are 4* and much better value for money, with better food! Eg Timanfaya Palace where we have stayed several times before. Would not return to Yaiza, unless it was a bargain price.
out of this world
i went there 2 years ago and i loved it then last year i went to cyprus and stayed in a very nice 5 star hotel there but the yaiza is something else, its a nice calm atmosphere and the place its set in is gorgeous! espically the beachs! it has a lot to do for kids including kiko land next door i would advice any family or couple to go there!!!!!!!
lovely location,lacklustre service
Just come back from the Princesa Yaiza and despite mixed weather we had a lovely holiday in Playa Blanca. The town itself is friendly and the location of the hotel just perfect - on a super beach just 10 minute stroll along the front into town. With good tennis courts and 5 a side football for the children in the Kiko Land next door it is just a shame the hotel did not live up to 5 star status. The signs were not good on arrival. A diffident gentleman on check-in did not show us to our room - we were just left to find 414 on our own. The luggage eventually made it 35mins later....Secondly the suite we had was nicely laid out, but freezing cold. With night time temperatures down to 12 degrees the Princesa has marble / stone everywhere - but no heating. Many guests requested heaters which were promised by staff but never arrived. My wife slept in two sets of night clothes and socks - it was a race to the warm shower in the morning. Eventually we were allowed extra blankets. In addition the servicing of the room was somewhat haphazard. Sometimes the room was not serviced until mid afternoon and sometimes the turn down service never arrived. Food was ok but well below 5 star and the service was truly awful. The staff were friendly enough, but overwhelmed at busy times. Again no escort to the table and at the free for all buffet the drinks we ordered did not turn up until well into the main course. Breakfast fare looked suspiciously like the Italian buffet from the night before....tea and coffe were more often than not luke warm. And the venues are like soul-less aircraft hangers. Finally the swimming pools were rarely used - because they are not heated and freezing cold. The indoor pool is only for use in the spa and banned for under 16's. Fortunately Trip Advisor had alerted us to these issues and we mainly headed into Playa Blanca for eating out. The food was great, service friendly and efficient and with plenty of choice. We would definitely return to Lanzarote and Playa Blanca but not to the Princesa Yaiza unless the management changes and puts in place customer care that really has pride in the hotel. The fantastic location, building and facilities deserve so much better. We've stayed in many of the Med's 5 star family resorts, I suggest the Princesa management try out Vila Vita, Annassa, Bahia Del Duque or Forte Village to see what 5 star service is really all about.
A uniquely designed hotel
A 5 star hotel in every respect - beautifully designed with unique features, and good spacious rooms. A La Carte restrauants good (food quality and service) but Yaiza Restrauant serving buffet dinner only average. Will certainly return.
Lovely Hotel, Entertainment Interesting....
Having just come back from the Yaiza for the week of 23-30th Dec I thought I would write a review of the experience. I stayed in a junior suite in block B on the 5th floor. The room was superb with fantastic direct sea views - ask for these rooms! Room comprised of a lovely bathroom with large bath, powerful shower, two sinks and loo with door off. The kitchenette area was hidden tastfully behind some doors and I originally thought it was a wardrobe! Here is a half size fridge so you can bring in water etc for yourself plus a full mini-bar with prices that are reasonable. There is a sink and a microwave too. The bedroom area in this junior suite had two double beds all nicely dressed with white linen and tastefully adorned walls with Picasso prints. The living room area had two comfy sofas and a coffee table with a small dining table and chairs. The Tv was lacking with only Sky news, CNN and BBC world news so a bit disappointing. Balcony was great with chairs, table and fab views. I was half board and unlike many hotels I have stayed in, all the food variety was available until the restaurants closed. Although buffet style they were fine with different themes in the restaurants each night. There was plenty of variety although I would recommend going to the marina (left of the hotel) for tapas. Entertainment was not always as stated - the nightclub was supposed to open at 10pm each night and didn't and also was very quiet! All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel.
first rate hotel
We were a little concerned about some of the mixed reviews on line, but were delighted with the Princesa Yaiza. The only downside is the poor food on offer for dinner at the buffet restaurants. As B&B guests, we had to pay 'through the nose' for some pretty average fare on the one night we ventured in. On the other hand, the a la carte Isla de Lobos restaurant isn't cheap but offers excellent quality and service. Fine views of the sea too! The buffet breakfast is hard to fault as were the lunches available by the pool side. The rooms in the family suite part of the hotel - the old Son Bou Hotel building - are first-class. Plenty of space, well furnished and one of the real plus points of the hotel. We found the staff to be very efficient and helpful, from reception staff through the restaurant personnel. It's a little hard to understand why both main pools were so cold (at Christmas) to render them effectively out of bounds. To that end, the beach is very close and is a good bet for families. Well kept and clean. Recommended for anyone looking for a top-rate hotel in the Canaries.
lovely hotel
The room and bathroom in the Princess Yaiza were really good. Comfortable bed, two sofas for lounging ,T.V. walk in wardrobe, large balcony, tiny kitchen facilities, full bath and shower. The general design of the hotel was interesting with an inside garden with flowing water and large palm trees. The corridors are open to the outside. There are two large pools but they could do with heating in December. Breakfast excellent. It is an easy walk into the centre of the small village of Playa Blanca and port for trips to Fuerventura. A fantastic relaxing winter's break.
