No Porters available on arrival - two elderly (75Yrs) had to bring in own luggage.
No Receceptionists avialable - had to wait.
Receptionist "ice cool" efficient but no welcome;no greeting.
Very poor first impression
All Restaurants - no warm plates -food served on cold plates.Certainly not 5 star.
Obliged to use "Italian" Restaurant where water was charged @ 50c per bottle extra over other Restaurants.Rip-off.
Otherwise good hotel

We stay every year for the half term holiday in October! and we just cannot fault this hotel! it is fantastic. The Kiko Royal Suites are perfect and it gives us a holiday just knowing our children are comfortable and happy in their OWN bedroom!
Yes, the pools are a little cold, but once in them they soon warm up!
I have no faults with anything with this hotel, amazing accommodating staff, gorgeous food!, brilliant entertainment for the children, a true 5* holiday worth every penny! and as for the Dorada Beach Bar! that is really fun! From being picked up at the Airport and arriving at the hotel we are transported to the best holiday! Thankyou Princess Yaiza and thank you Sovereign

Fantastic Suite Hotel

This is a 5 star hotel, but should be 6 star! We returned on Saturday 16th October 2010 from a 2 week break, which was propably the most relaxing one we have ever had.
It started as soon as we walked through the doors.. quickly dealt with at reception, good explanation of hotel etc and a glass of Cava. We were shown to our room (631b). We had asked for a junior suite with a sea view, and that was exactly what we got. Fantastic view over to Fuerteventura. Bedroom area with a supremely comfortable super king size bed!!!! (None of your usual 2 singles pushed together.)There was also a seperate seating area with 2 sofas, coffee tables and a dining table with 2 seats. Flat screen tv in corner actually showed some programmes in English, too. Beautiful bathroom with seperate WC. The surprise was behind what we assumed was part of the wardrobe. We looked for the mini-bar, and found a mini-kitchen complete with sink, microwave, cupboard space, and under counter fridge!
Rooms cleaned and beds changed every day. There is even a drier on the balcony.
I could write all day about this hotel, but suffice to say that the rest lived up to the room. Food fantastic, breakfast had anything you could want, right down to more cava! Japanese restaurant has to be tried too.
The pools were clean and there were plenty of sunbeds. Access to the beach was through a back gate which also led to the plaza with some more restaurants and a jazz club.
A short, flat stroll takes you to Playa Blanca and the shops and restaurants there.
We don't generally go to the same place twice, but I can honestly say that we are already planning our next visit.
If the weather is bad in February, we will sit in the Atrium which is 3 storeys high and full of running water and tropical plants and trees. Cool in Summer and warm in Winter.
This place needs to be seen. It is impossible to put it over in a few paragraphs. Oops forgot to mention the comprehensive gym and the Thalasso Spa!!

Spent 5 days and enjoyed every moment. Lovely suite good
views of pools and sea. Room clean and bathroom great. Not a lot of evening entertainment however 5 min walk into Playa Blanca for bars etc. Food was excellent both at Breakfast and evening. Thought beach nice and clean but 2 sun beds and umbrella cost 9 euros per day. Pools clean but cold so found sea warmer. I would definately book again as staff and surroundings were perfect. This is a great Hotel and comfort is truly there.

Absolutely wonderful!

We spent 9 wonderful days at the Princesa Yaiza in February 2010 at the end of a 6 week stay in Playa Blanca.
I would particularly mention the staff at the hotel who were friendly, courteous and efficient at all times, and the spa for a wonderful, professional service.
We felt the food at breakfast was of excellent quality and variety. We ate once in the evening at the buffet restaurant. Again the food was good, but we felt that the atmosphere in the restaurant was geared towards families rather than intimate dinners for two. However, there are plenty of good restaurants in the town and the nearly Marina.
Yes, this is a child-friendly hotel, but this is what you should expect in what is clearly a holiday resort, but it still catered very well for ourselves as a couple. We will certainly be going back.

We stayed in a suite - but luxury is not a term we would associate with this hotel. The advertised view of ocean and pool - was the beautiful view of the "Burger King". The room had a stale smell, and the telephone did not work. After much negotiation, we were moved to a suite in a seemingly empty hotel wing next to a service entrance. With 2 children under 3, our am and pm naps were not possible because the cleaners' habitual slamming of doors often began at 10am and finished at 4pm. What were they(reception) thinking! We also had to pay additional 12 euro for a kettle which short circuited the room for an afternoon. Almost none of the advertised services or those we expected from a 5* resort was there.. e.g., Kids club - the Kiko land was closed for the entire week (I had called before hand to check if it was open for winter break) - The of course madam - turns out to be a big fat NO. The play room which would have been good for rainy days was only open from 10-12, and from 5-7 - nap and dinner time. Lastly, even the 3* hotel down the road had a heated swimming pool - or maybe the Princesa did have a heated pool - which happened to be emptied during the week we were there. Nonetheless we had a great vacation thanks to the location of the hotel, the beach was fabulous, and the town to the left of the hotel - standing from your back to the hotel at the beach entrance is brilliant, but unfortunately the hotel itself is not what it seems. The value for money is poor. We will definitely not recommend this hotel to parents.

This is truly a luxury hotel where all the staff appear to have a high regard for their duty of providing a good service to customers. I would give them in all departments 10/10. The rooms are comfortable warm and clean, linen changed every day and every request met with courtesy and sometimes of course at a cost. Why only 6 then? Firstly, the public areas are not heated, bars, entertainment suites corridors and restaurants were all cold. Secondly, restaurants were closed without warning or apology when guest numbers were reduced as they were dramatically during our stay. Thirdly, the main pool, the heated one, was drained for maintenance, again without apology and no attempt made to ameliorate the situation by heating the other. Fourthly, I would expect to pay three times the bottle price for a wine in this class of hotel, not anywhere from five times to sky's the limit, as here. Fifthly, the publicity speaks of International standard show cooking from top chefs. Undoubtedly the cold buffets of meat and shellfish are spectacular and comprehensive. Desserts were pretty good too, although less so, and crepes that were par cooked? come on!! But the main comment would be that hot food was either casseroles of yesterday's cold buffets or griddled fish fillets or meat chops or cutlets. Not a masterchef or flambe to be seen. Perhaps he was on holiday!
We nevertheless enjoyed our stay here and would stay again if these areas could be addressed. The facility is a good one. The management policy appears to be geared to balancing the books on a weekly basis, so guests caught up in a slack period pay top price for reduced facility and a cheap bottle of Cava and some chocolate is no compensation for that!

Freezing Pools

Maybe i was expecting a little too much having been blown away by the many positive reviews, but it is safe to say i wasn't blown away by the Yaiza. Don’t get me wrong it is a nice hotel, but then again at £270 per room per night you would expect it to be.
The positives:
Great location equi-distant from Marina Rubicon and Playa Blanca. The views from the hotel are great overlooking the delightful Playa Dorada beach and over to Fuerteventura.
The staff in the main are very friendly, with the general exception of reception who i found to be generally short, with me and most guests.
The hotel and staff is generally very child friendly with the superb facilities of Kiko land - i would imagine in season this is bustling with activities.
The negatives:
Main criticism is of the swimming pools - most tour ops and own hotel websites says they have 3 heated pools - they dont, they have one and this is only heated to 24 degrees as they rigidly adhere to a local law. 24 degrees on a cool cloudy is too cold to swim particularly when trying to teach a 5 year old to swim. All the poor kids were huddled in the jazuzzi! When challenged the client director took the temperature of the pool and said it wasnt the first time he had the complaint but wouldnt do anything about it. We stayed in the family suites over the road and again this pool wasnt heated so is rendered useless in the winter! This really spoiled our holiday, there isnt an indoor pool to use which is ridiculous for a 5 star deluxe although we could "try the facilities over the road at the hesperia as they have a nice warm pool" Unbelievable
Other main critiscism is of the family suites - we paid more to stay in one of these even though there was only 3 of us. Mistake. Whilst they are fantastic size rooms they are not a patch on the main block. They are located about 150m from the main block over a main road. The corridors are noisy, a bit shabby and whilst we were there, felt very isolated as only 1/4 rooms were occupied. All the faciities on this side were closed ie Kiko restaurant, pool freezing, pool bar closed. Strangely although billed as family suites, not much forethought gone into the them ie patios doors cant be locked from inside and main door cant be locked to prevent kids wandering off - very strange. We did try to change to move to a junior suite in the main block but were told we couldn't as hotel was full and they were already having to "Upgrade" other guests to the family suites! Worth knowing they think this is acceptable. I was eventually offered a jnr suite to move on Friday evening having arrived on the sunday - we declined as we were departing on Sunday morning! This was only after pressure from our tour operator.
The hotel is staggered over a few floors so there is no central point. The bottom floors are very dark and not very welcoming. I found it strange that there wasn't one bar open in the evening outside for a quiet drink. The beach bar not too far away was doing a roaring trade so clearly people wanted it.
I have stayed in a few 5 stars and given that this was billed as 5 star luxury, i was dissapointed with it in general, location aside. If you are going out of season then dont bother with the family suites and seriously consider if cold pools are an issue.
PS it is advised as being the first hotel in canaries to have 8mb broadband - what they dont tell you is that if you want to use it in your room, you have to pay EUR 10 per day - i get this free when i stay in the Hilton in Luton for £90 - come off it!

My wife and I stayed for 7 nights. The hotel upgraded us from a mini suite to a full suite. From the moment we walked into the beautiful reception, greeted with a glass of Champagne we were treated to a full five star experience. The food and wine was so good in all the restaurants within the hotel that we did not venture to other restaurants off site.
We have re -booked for 10 nights in September but this time have gone for half board.

Just returned from a two week holiday and had a lovely time, this hotel is just fantastic. We booked half board but were given a free upgrade to Half Board Deluxe from Sovereign this enabled us to eat in any of the Restaurants inlcuding the very expensive Los Lobos completely free of charge, we used all of them our favourite restaurant was the Japanese although all of the restaurants were superb, our daughter loved the Italian they made pizza's for the kids with rabbit ears. The bedrooms were perfect we had the larger one bedroom suite in the C Block, ground floor, partial sea view, clean and comfortable, service just what you would expect from a 5 * hotel and a little bit more. The kid's club was ideal, our 7 year old loved it, from 10.00 - 1.00 and 3.00-6.00 it was very well organised the children received a passport and handed it over when they arrived they were then looked after by the entertainment team who were all excellent, they had theme days and even had outside entertainment 2-3 times per week ie Reptile shows, parrot shows etc. We were happy that she was being looked after properly and that she was having fun at the same time, the children were kept in the club until they were picked up by an adult it was alll very efficient and safe. There was a Maxi disco at 10.30 - 11.45 if the kids were still awake, again the passport was handed over and the kids were given a security bib to wear and were kept in the room disco dancing and playing games until they were picked up, it was a relaxing holiday for the adults and a fun filled and energetic one for the children. We had to run to make breakfast before closing at 10.30 most mornings although it was never a problem even if we were, the staff were so accomodating. A wonderful hotel and a great holiday, if I had to make any complaint it would be a small one to say that they should have waiter service at the pool side it was a real pain having to walk to the bar to order our cocktails!!!!!!!!!!!!! We will almost certainly return.

Returned early this morning fron a most relaxing holiday at the Princesa Yaiza.
Couldn't find any fault with this wonderful hotel, staff or location (Mr Goldstraw in previous comment below must have either found a very scenic route to the marina or walks very slowly as only 10 mins at the most, and 10 mins in other direction to main part of town. Either way there is a good selection of resaraunts).
Would definately stay again.

Excellent holiday, hotel was superb....

Excellent holiday, hotel was superb. The downsides were that my 16 year old daughter was not allowed in the jacuzzi/gym after 3pm which was just about the time our lunch had settled and we needed a change of scene, the pools except one were absolutely freezing, it is remote and a good 45 minute walk to the Marina and beds were very hard and uncomfortable.
Plus points were very clean and tidy, food was the best we have ever had. Crispy bacon fresh hot baguettes all manner of eggs at breakfast with "champagne for those who were after a hair of the dog". Lunch was an array of salads and meats ice creams cakes and pastries. Dinner was the same with carved joints 1/2 or 1/4 chickens fish, squid paella more cakes ice creams and desserts. The Italian restaurant did gorgeous fresh pizzas and pasta with a choice of sauces, we never ventures to the French restaurant -who would pay extra to eat when the choice in the main restaurant was so amazing. The only food disappointment was the Chinese which was just OK.
The bars were well staffed they gave huge measures of spirits, slush for kids and peanuts to accompany your tipple of choice. Jorge always remembered our choice of G & T and worked so hard.
Brilliant hotel would love to return if they get better beds.
Weather sunny but a cold breeze at the start of our week but it got better as the week went on. Go if you get the chance you will not regret it
