Princesa Yaiza Hotel Reviews
" Great expectations! "
Submitted By: faircommentWe nevertheless enjoyed our stay here and would stay again if these areas could be addressed. The facility is a good one. The management policy appears to be geared to balancing the books on a weekly basis, so guests caught up in a slack period pay top price for reduced facility and a cheap bottle of Cava and some chocolate is no compensation for that!
Advice: You can get better value for money nearby
Activities: There are plenty of good restaurants at both beach and marina, which is over its construction phase.
Good for: Beach
" Freezing Pools "
Submitted By: nathantThe positives:
Great location equi-distant from Marina Rubicon and Playa Blanca. The views from the hotel are great overlooking the delightful Playa Dorada beach and over to Fuerteventura.
The staff in the main are very friendly, with the general exception of reception who i found to be generally short, with me and most guests.
The hotel and staff is generally very child friendly with the superb facilities of Kiko land - i would imagine in season this is bustling with activities.
The negatives:
Main criticism is of the swimming pools - most tour ops and own hotel websites says they have 3 heated pools - they dont, they have one and this is only heated to 24 degrees as they rigidly adhere to a local law. 24 degrees on a cool cloudy is too cold to swim particularly when trying to teach a 5 year old to swim. All the poor kids were huddled in the jazuzzi! When challenged the client director took the temperature of the pool and said it wasnt the first time he had the complaint but wouldnt do anything about it. We stayed in the family suites over the road and again this pool wasnt heated so is rendered useless in the winter! This really spoiled our holiday, there isnt an indoor pool to use which is ridiculous for a 5 star deluxe although we could "try the facilities over the road at the hesperia as they have a nice warm pool" Unbelievable
Other main critiscism is of the family suites - we paid more to stay in one of these even though there was only 3 of us. Mistake. Whilst they are fantastic size rooms they are not a patch on the main block. They are located about 150m from the main block over a main road. The corridors are noisy, a bit shabby and whilst we were there, felt very isolated as only 1/4 rooms were occupied. All the faciities on this side were closed ie Kiko restaurant, pool freezing, pool bar closed. Strangely although billed as family suites, not much forethought gone into the them ie patios doors cant be locked from inside and main door cant be locked to prevent kids wandering off - very strange. We did try to change to move to a junior suite in the main block but were told we couldn't as hotel was full and they were already having to "Upgrade" other guests to the family suites! Worth knowing they think this is acceptable. I was eventually offered a jnr suite to move on Friday evening having arrived on the sunday - we declined as we were departing on Sunday morning! This was only after pressure from our tour operator.
The hotel is staggered over a few floors so there is no central point. The bottom floors are very dark and not very welcoming. I found it strange that there wasn't one bar open in the evening outside for a quiet drink. The beach bar not too far away was doing a roaring trade so clearly people wanted it.
I have stayed in a few 5 stars and given that this was billed as 5 star luxury, i was dissapointed with it in general, location aside. If you are going out of season then dont bother with the family suites and seriously consider if cold pools are an issue.
PS it is advised as being the first hotel in canaries to have 8mb broadband - what they dont tell you is that if you want to use it in your room, you have to pay EUR 10 per day - i get this free when i stay in the Hilton in Luton for £90 - come off it!

Submitted By: Mr R DowerCouldn't find any fault with this wonderful hotel, staff or location (Mr Goldstraw in previous comment below must have either found a very scenic route to the marina or walks very slowly as only 10 mins at the most, and 10 mins in other direction to main part of town. Either way there is a good selection of resaraunts).
Would definately stay again.

Submitted By: Mr D GoldstrawPlus points were very clean and tidy, food was the best we have ever had. Crispy bacon fresh hot baguettes all manner of eggs at breakfast with "champagne for those who were after a hair of the dog". Lunch was an array of salads and meats ice creams cakes and pastries. Dinner was the same with carved joints 1/2 or 1/4 chickens fish, squid paella more cakes ice creams and desserts. The Italian restaurant did gorgeous fresh pizzas and pasta with a choice of sauces, we never ventures to the French restaurant -who would pay extra to eat when the choice in the main restaurant was so amazing. The only food disappointment was the Chinese which was just OK.
The bars were well staffed they gave huge measures of spirits, slush for kids and peanuts to accompany your tipple of choice. Jorge always remembered our choice of G & T and worked so hard.
Brilliant hotel would love to return if they get better beds.
Weather sunny but a cold breeze at the start of our week but it got better as the week went on. Go if you get the chance you will not regret it

Submitted By: Mr I NICHOLSThe rooms are excellent and the service was faultless. The choice of differenent restaurants was superb, each one offering different food from around the world!
The childrens facilities were superb, especially "THE SOCCER SCHOOL" run by scot and GARY PALLISTER (ex man utd player). Our 10 year old son,Jordan, cant wait to return in august 2008 and is hoping to attend the Soccer School again. I would like to point out that i feel the hotel needs to put some reference on THEIR website about the SOCCER SCHOOL,as from what i personally saw it is well attended and loved by the children!

Submitted By: Mrs W GillardThe interior is arranged around jungle of trees and plants with running water and boarded walkways with rope hand rails. In amongst the trees are seating areas, just the right place to be to escape the heat.
The restaurants are top rate, the food excellent with an extensive choice to suit everyone. The staff are friendly polite and very helpful at all times.. In all a wonderful holiday and we will definitely book to go there again next year.

Submitted By: Miss L TraylingWhen we arrived at Lanzorote airport and were told that nobody else was going to our hotel we were slightly worried about what it was going to be like but when we arrived we couldn't believe how nice it was!
There is nothing bad I can say about the actual hotel, its just the people that tend to stay there- we found that is was mostly stuck up Spanish people- there were English but just very few, so this was very annoying!
But the hotel itself; the breakfast was lovely, the view were amazing, the entertainment- could be better but its in a great location so just need to go next door to find the Jungle bar and Wax bar- which are both in the same complex along with some others. Also if your only b&b like us then its only a 5min walk to loadza restaurants and its a really nice walk!
The hotel has everything- even its own shopping centre! There are a few shops in the main hotel then next door- still part of the hotel- is a small designer shopping centre! There are 6 restaurants in the hotel but to be honest you're better off going down the road as it is much cheaper and there's about 20 different restaurants! We did want to try them all but didn't have enough days! If you do go down the road don't go to the chinese restaurants, in all the restaurants you get a shot with your meal but in the chinese ones they have porno pictures at the bottom of the glasses! and they're just generally pervs!
The pools are all really nice-a normal pool, a salt water pool, a childrens pool and another normal pool in block D (the family block you have to go under a subway to get to, the subway is real nice with loadza fishtanks with colourful fish), but there was always one side of the pool that would be in the shade-so choose your sun lounger carefully!! You could always get loungers on the beach as well but you had to pay-very cheap though!
The staff were also very polite! Anything you wanted they would do, they don't like you to have to do anything and would rather do it for you!
So overall great hotel-shame about the stuck up Spanish!

Submitted By: Ms L BoyceThe older children were amazed at the variety of food available in the restaurants and enjoyed taking a plate to help themselves, so did I! As we had half board we were pleased to find an adequate and friendly beach cafe very close to the hotel. I had my birthday while at the Princess Yaiza I had a lovely chocolate cake from the management.
We were surprised that the children's entertainment staff were genuinely involved with the children, remembered their names and made a real effort to ensure that they enjoyed Kikoland. A very pleasant multinational group of young people.
The areas being segregated by age meant that there was a safe suitable area for the 2 year old. The children enjoyed Kiko the large duck wandering around at breakfast.
The evening entertainment delighted them most evenings especially seeing the Chinese acrobats close up.
We only made one trip, in a hire car, to the volcanic park which is impressive and exciting, and has camel rides! We spent most days on the beach or by the pools. A friend who lives on the island visited us, marvelled at the architecture of the hotel and suggested we went to the north of the island to see unspoilt villages with a traditional way of life. Next time, I hope!
I would, and do, recommend the Princess Yaiza to anyone wanting a holiday which is fun for the children and relaxing for the adults.
" This hotel takes your breath away... "
Submitted By: Mrs K SherriffWe went in January and the hotel was almost dead, with hardly any guests at all.
My children, aged 3 and 6 went to kiko land everyday while I sunbathed by the pool and they always came back at lunch raving about how good their morning had been, they were able to go back at 3pm-5pm if they wished.
The staff are very helpful, and there was someone always around cleaning something, it always smelled lovely and fresh.
We stayed b&b, the buffet for breakfast was magnificent and the children loved getting their own juice, but lunch and dinner is a problem if you don’t want to eat in a restaurant.
Some evenings we just wanted a quiet evening in together but there are no facilities in the rooms to make anything yourself. No tea making facilities either, which really disappointed me, the amount you pay to stay there, you expect to be able to make yourself a cuppa in the evening.
But overall the hotel is lovely, with lovely views over the sea and close to everything you need. Defiantly go again.

Submitted By: Mrs M. Halpin-ConstableThe hotel itself is absolutely beautiful, hundreds of couches to sit on around the place, aquariums, bridges with pools underneath with real fish, gorgeous plants, wonderfully maintained.
The various bars have beautiful entertainment singers. One women in the main bar accompanied on piano – beautiful, soft, and lovely and soothing to listen to.
Downstairs another small stage with singers accompanied with musicians, different entertainers every night - very nice indeed!
Here is also where the kiddies have their 8 o’clock little disco. Very funny to see them running around and stuff, dancing – very nice. (But that’s it). The entertainment put on their besides the little disco for an hour or so is NOT of an interactive type for children.
It is I think geared towards adults only. I think it lacks that fab rep. appeal that I am sure you all have experienced on holidays between the kids and the entertainment reps. none of this here.
There are 2 large pools (1 salt water / 1 ordinary) and 1 small children’s pool. The large pools are spacious – cleanliness very high - plenty of sunbeds / loungers etc.etc. Towels available by poolside – very nice. There is a little hut serving drinks and fresh smoothie’s mommies! Yes fresh, pick your fruit – gorgeous.
The children’s pool I was again very disappointed with. It reached up above the knees of my 3 year old girl (who is quite tall) which I think is too deep for small children. It was not a sloping pool either which can encourage them much better.
Ok for those who are used to swimming but I do think there should be a smaller pool for babies and younger children maybe 3/4 inches.
Auditorium – this is a beautiful facility, curtains automatically open, great acts on stage, very spacey indeed small tables not piled on top of each other, waiter service. (But that’s it). No interaction really with the audience. No interaction for children at all.
Kikoland – beautiful beautiful facility. Large swimming pool, plenty of beds, etc. etc. auditorium (the entertainment team put on shows here at night time- watch the boards) fine and spacey, tennis courts. 3 separate enclosed areas for roughly the following.
0-3 Bouncy castle, swings, little hut, small swimming pool – very nice (no staff here to play with kids)
3-7 Swimming pool, swings, hut, etc. etc. – (no staff here to play with kids – the staff were in the next hut at 7-11 age group – no signs saying this)
7-11 bigger area, monkey bars, swings, etc. etc. – 1 staff member here to play with kids but all they ever did was play with play dough! I only went one morning and stayed for an hour it was so boring I didn’t go back. I talked to some other mothers and they said the same. (This is where you leave your kids; you sign them in if you want to and the adults can go by the pool area and relax)
Wonderful wonderful facility I have never seen such a facility before you have to see it to appreciate it – such a pity about the entertainment team here or kids club – they were awful!
Tacky costumes, mimed all the way through music and singing – I thought they were awful.
By the way for all you women out there if you watch Desperate Housewives I'm a Bree type - very picky, paranoid on cleanliness, I like to be pleased. NB – Beware read down mommies before you judge ratings! (Three headings across are hotel / Thalasso / Playa Blanca)

Submitted By: Mrs E HarrisA first class hotel that is also very child/teenager friendly. Plenty for the young ones to do whist you relax and enjoy your break. We have three children 15/13/8. The location of the hotel is excellent.
A stone’s throw from the beach. The rooms in which we stayed were luxurious. Playa Blanca is a lovely. It is not over developed like PDC. The five mile walk from the marina to the lighthouse, if you fancy a long walk, is superb.
Not a car to be seen for almost 99% of it. There are plenty of bars and restaurants. The best bar for relaxing, looking out of the window at the view to Fuerteventura and watching the world pass by is without doubt the Galleria bar.
My children were made more than welcome. Having a teenage son he found a place called powerhouserockbar. It has just opened and my husband and he went there to see a live band and came home singing its praises.
If you rent a car drive to the cote Azul restaurant in El Golfo. One word WOW.

Advice: Kids loved feeding the fishes!
Activities: The town to the left of the hotel was fabulous - great weekly market!
Good for: Beach
