" WHAT A DISASTER "

Well it has taken me two months to recover from this disaster. Went to the Vista Blanes apartments ( not Hotel )with partner and two children aged 5 and 7. Following a three hour flight delay I arrived at Mahon airport. The transfer time to the apartment was approximately an hour and a half away. On collecting my bags at the airport I noticed my bag had been broken into and various items had been stolen from my bag.Arrived after mid night with no drinks or food available. Rooms were either facing the pool or a busy road !! guess what I got the busy road. I e mailed and telephoned the apartment before my trip asked them if they could provide me with a pool view. My request was looked into but following my arrival it was refused. The next day I had to go the the Police station to report my loss having to wait for a bus which came one hour later. The room had ants in it and I got an ear infection from the pool. The food in the restaurant was basic the usual chips chips and chips and depending on the waiter some were friendly and some not so friendly. The kids club was only available for a few hours each day and on some days not open at all. The beach is 10 minutes away but dont get too excited as its the size of a postage stamp !!Advice is to go elsewhere !!! good luck

Advice: best part was coming home

Activities: restaurant at the airport coming home

" Clean but noisy "

The apartments themselves are extremely well maintained, very basic and the beds quite uncomfortable, dont expect to cook much in the kitchen. The photos in the brochure and online actually do them little justice. The pool is great and again very clean. The small cove nearby is a welcome escape from the more rowdy and embarrasing element of the other guests, buy an umbrella from the supermarket for 12 Eu as they cost that much per day to hire!!. The entertainment is not very good, with the exception of the Elvis impersonator who is great. The noise does go on until well after midnight so don't expect much rest as you will be woken up early by people dragging sunbeds around to reserve their spot - completely pointless as there is plenty of room. You can escape into Calan Forcat about 20 mins walk away where there is always something going on of a high standard or closer by to the Pitas restaurant for some spanish hospitality. If you are looking for a quiet holiday with a chance to explore Menorca, this is not for you - car hire was stupidly expensive! But if you like a lot of noise and to sit by the pool all day - good luck to you, you will have a great time!

Advice: Ok if you want England with great weather! Great for kids

Activities: Pitas Restaurant is great. Aquapark is much better than expected.

" Loved It "

Before we went we had read a few bad reviews so we was a little nervous, but the place was clean and friendly, very quiet which is what we wanted, a nice large pool and small children's pool, friendly staff, only two minutes walk from a small cove beach and about 15 minutes walk from Cala en Forcat which was a quiet resort with bars, restaurants and a water park and a few shops. Theres not much for the little ones, There is a lovely coastal walk to Cituadella where there is a small port and shops and buses to other parts of the island. We would go back again.

Advice: A nice little beach, scenic coastal walk to Cituadella, Menorca's old capital city

Activities: Seated at the back of the beach served by a waiter from the hotel there looked after us well

" Better than expected! "

After reading some of the reveiws, we were wary of what to expect, but on arrival were pleasantly surprised! Apart from the wait for our room to be cleaned for us to get in, the complex was fine, a little bigger than we expected, but very clean & attractive. The room was fine, although the odd nights were hot, and air con would have been a bonus! We had 4 of us, 2 adults and 2 daughters (2 & 6), and we did ok with the room, kitchen had a microwave & hobs, kettle & toaster, and we did breakfast & lunch & some dinners in the room, and ate out many evenings. There are some good restaurants in the neighbouring resort, and we found Mr Beps, a 5 minute walk around the corner from the resort, very good value, good food & friendly, reccomended!
The pool was great , kids loved it, although on the odd day it was hard to find a spot with a lounger, although there were loads of them. Shop was fine, and other supermarkets within a 5 minute walk. Kids club highly reccomended, our eldest went everyday & loved it. Tour rep was on site every day, and helpful. Francessca did indeed get everyone going with her aqua aerobics, games etc, although she was off sick during the end of our stay, and there wa no replacement. Evening entertainment was, well fairly entertaining. Elvis was great, and the kids loved the puppets.
We had no problems with the hotel bar, found them all friendly enough, even Alex, the big guy, had a few chats with him, and he was fine, sometimes busy though.
Local cove/beach was nice, pretty, but did get busy at certain times of the day, not earlier though, we loved swimming/snorkelling, looking at the fish swimming around you, and crabbing on the rocks.Pirates cove restaurant was nice too, with kids play area.
Overall we enjoyed our holiday, no real moans, yes we would consider returning.

Advice: Satisfactory resort, quiet area, nice beach, nearby resorts (20 minute walk) are busier!

Activities: Mr Beps restaurant, Pirates cove restaurant.

" Magical Menorca "

When we arrived at the apartments for our 2 week stay in menorca, we were pleased with the complex and our room. only thing was that there was no oven and we had bought about 6 packs of half baked bread rolls with us, so that was a bit of a let down. Other than that, the apartment itself was great. It was big enough for just the two of us, and being on the top floor with no balcony adjoining to ours, meant that the doors and windows could be left open all the time. The ceiling fan also stayed on constantly because we just wouldnt have been able to cope otherwise because of the heat.
Our Thompson rep was very helpful, and we did go on one of the organised trips "Capital Delights", which was really good (especially if you like Gin!). It made a nice change to get out of the complex and not sunbathe for a day!
The reception staff were helpful and friendly, as were the bar staff, although the large bloke just grunted at whatever you had to say and absolutely stank! The bar/resturant in the complex was ok, drinks were very pricy though, but the state of the Euro at the moment doesnt help! One offputting thing though was that the bar closed at 12 sharp, which is good for families getting to sleep without trouble, but when your sitting on the terrace having a drink and the bar staff turn the lights off, its not too pleasant.
I must admit that we didnt eat there, but we were told the food is "ok". Entertainment in the evenings was alright, Elvis was brilliant, but the quiz nights & karaoke were a bit of a bore as no one was there! We preferred to walk into Cala n Forcat (20 mins away) where there was a whole strip of bars, resturants and shops. The square (just under the blue arch) was brilliant too, with live music every night and loads of entertainment for the kids.
The pool area at the apartments was spacious and clean, and there were always enough sunbeds to go around (although some people still insited on getting up at 4am to put their towels on sunbeds). Only thing was that because of all the suncream people were wearing, the floor became very slippy, especially around the pools edge, and when i was there i witnessed several people slip and fall over, including an elderly man and several small children, one injuring his chin quite nastily!
Francesca the daytime entertainment manager was very good, running the water polo, football and aerobics 5 days a week, although the "Hola! Hola Francesca!" catchphrase got on our nerves by the end of our stay.
The small beach was only a 5 minute walk away, but it got very busy and sunbeds were expensive to hire. The water was nice though, very clear and you could see the fish swimming about, but it was very rocky so we preferred to wear flip flops in the water.
At the apartments at night, there was a night porter walking around all the time, from about 11pm until morning. It made us feel very safe and he does his job very well.
One thing we were very dissapointed about though, was that one afternoon, a window in the corridoor outside our apartment smashed (while closed) and one of the people in the appartment just up the corridoor went to tell reception so they could get it cleaned up. A good half an hour passed and it still hadnt been cleared up, so my mum went down to tell them again. The receptionist was quite rude to her, and when asked what would have happened if someone was walking near the window at the time it smashed, she just shrugged her shoulders. My mum then came back to our room, (after having to walk over broken glass to get to the door) and we waited, again. An hour and a half after the window smashed, my mum had to go down yet again to reception, because it still hadnt been cleared up. Luckily she bumped into our rep on the way there, and she ensured it would be done immediatley, which it was. We felt let down by the staff that day as they didnt seem to care that their guests could have been injured.
In spite of this, we did have a lovely holiday. If i could pick up the apartments and move them nearer to Cala n Forcat, it would have been perfect, but it was just too quiet for us in Cala n Blanes. I would definitley reccomend this place for young families, but if your looking to go out most nights, then i wouldnt come here.

Advice: A safe quiet resort - perfect for families, but not for those wanting a good nightlife

Activities: Mr Beps - cheap and lovely food! Mahon was nice to walk around & had a great market!

" cheap n cheerful "

I was happy with the apartments for the most part, spotlessly clean with great room facilities, decor could do with a little modenisation, but even still great rooms perfect for our family of four. Apartment complex was far larger than i had anticipated therefore the pool was extremely crowded through the day, which meant you had to really be careful with the kids as they were often bashed into or squashed by teenagers and adults.
Biggest problem with the apartments wasn't Germans, or spanish or any other nationality but the English themselves!! Why oh Why do people feel the need to get up at 6am and put towels on loungers, particularly when the don't appear at the pool until 3pm in the day? As a result half the loungers covered in towels were lying unused while families like ourselves had to squash round about them, like second class citizens until the fancy took them to swan down to the pool and claim them. Why no rule like any empty beds with towels will have towels removed?
Another gripe is the amount of lardy topless women parading about the pool, im not a prude and really don't mind people being topless, but a bit of discretion about it - personally i think toplessness is best suited to the beach. But at a family complex it was a bit much. My 8 year old son didn't know where to look and it really put him off and us.
Poolside bar/restaurant was fine for the odd drink, or plate of chips but burgers best avoided as they were on hard stale rolls and not much meat in them, not pleasant! Service wise was fine, but just don't expect cheerful spanish bartenters here - maybe if they realised that a few manners or smiles were given they might have recieved decent tips. We got used to drinks slid up the bar without a word or slammed down in front of us, never had a problem anywhere else.
Entertainment was on in the evenings however we prefered to be out of the complex having meals when this was on, as it seemed pretty poor quality, but fine if you like karyoke, just not for us. Apartments well placed for going into citadela which i can't recommend enough beautiful costal walk from the apartments or quick taxi ride away. Wonderful restaurants and craft shops in a beautiful location.
Kids club is brilliant and the girls work really hard pleasing the kids, which is great kids loved it and gave us adults a little relaxation time. Overall the apartments were great value for money only downside is cheap apartments = cheap guests!

Advice: Lovely resort, small cove beach a little dirty

" will go again and again "

Like most people we kept reading the poor reviews about the vista blanes apartments, ignore them. We arrived with trepidation and admittedly there was a small problem, the brochure said we were to have an oven in our room but this was not the case though not the apartments fault, it was a printing error in the brochure by the tour operators. We expected basic and you do get basic but on the whole the rooms are adequate for a family of four (2 adults 2 boys aged 6 and 4. The rooms are very clean and kept clean by the friendly maids. The pool is superb and the surrounding area excellently maintained with plenty of sunbeds to go round and the afternoon entertainment (water polo, aerobics and football) always fun to join in with, due to in no means by Francesca or Frank Spencer as she became known whilst we were there, ola Francesca by the way!! Evening entertainment was excellent too, with Devaila with the snakes and the absolutely superb Elvis tribute, do not miss this even if you don't like Elvis! Bingo, karaoke and a quiz night make up some of the other entertainment. Drinks are bit pricey in the bar and the food we avoided, go to The Pirates Cove or the Aqua Park for good, well-priced food. The Aqua Park is a must if you have young children (up to about 13/14. If you have booked to go don't worry, you will have a ball, we spoke to people who have been 5/6 years on the trot and you can see why, we will probably do the same

Advice: quiet but pleasant

Activities: The Pirates Cove and the Aqua Park for food and fun

" Vista Calla Blanes "

Came back from Vista Calla Blanes last Saturday, fully enjoyed the break away from the usual with my wife and five month old twin boys. Our apartmenat was spotless when we arrived (after a 90 min transfer from Mahon) the apartments were spacious enough for us, a little spartan and possibly about 10 years out of date, the apartment was adequately comfortable for a week; however after a week we were craving for our own bed. The complex is also very clean; immaculate even and kept so by friendly staff. There is a handy supermarket on site that is cheap enough, but for parents with babies toddlers there is a supermarket round the corner from Churchill's Bar that sells much cheaper nappies. The pool area was great for relaxing around as there was plenty of shade for our babies under the grove of trees. The bar area is fine with attenative and friendly staff, the meals are ok but we found that going to Es Pitas restaurant, again round from Churchill's bar was good value and they give you a voucher for a free bottle of wine; Victor the waiter was really friendly and would recommend trying the place. The local beech is fantastic and a great swim and fine clear snorkelling to be had; avoid the snack bar on the left as it charged 17 Euro for 2 rolls, chips coke and a small beer, my advice is take a pic-nic from food bought at the shop. Citadeulla is well worth a trip as fantastic by the harbour for romantic eats. Forcat was packed with bars and giant inflatable monsters to keep the kiddies happy. All in all a very enjoyable holiday; would consider going back.

" We love Vista Blanes! "

Like many others, I was cautious about our holiday on reading some of the reviews, but we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There were four of us, my husband and I and our son and daughter, 19 and 16 respectively. The apartment was not luxurious, but we hadn't paid luxury prices. However, apart from the shower, which was somewhat idiosyncratic, the apartment was clean and comfortable, with comfy beds for all, even though it was only a one bedder. We don't normally go much for the entertainment provided, but even we were impressed by the Elvis impersonator! The local beach is within two minutes walk, but only ten minutes away is Cala en Brut, which mainly Spanish holiday makers go to. If you like snorkelling, and jumping off rocks safely into deep water, this is heaven, but there is no sandy beach. We found the short walk into town was no distance, and there are lots of supermarkets near the apartments. (Or should that be Supermeerkats!)The staff at the complex were fine, even the large bartender. Maybe the previous comments have been passed on!
Don't miss the coastal walk into Ciutadella- it's only two kilometres and flat, but the views are great, especially in the evening.
We would definitely go again, but hire a car this time, as we know there was a lot more to see.

" Just got back from 2 weeks in the... "

Just got back from 2 weeks in the vista blanes apartments, after reading all the other reviews previously to us flying out i got quite panicky about what i will find when i get there. The coach transfer went very smoothly took about 40 minutes to get to our apartment just like it said in the brochure.

I have to say it was a brillliant holiday yes apartments basic, beds wasnt that comfortable, but it had everything you needed microwave, ironing board, kettle, toaster i have never had equipment like that in other apartments we have stayed in.

Pool area fantastic it suited myself husband and 11 yr old daughter, never had to get up early to find a sunbed, plenty to go around even finding shade.

Evening entertainment left a lot to be desired though ok if you liked freddie mercury wasnt our cup of tea, so every evening we walked into cala n forcat about 15-20 minutes walk which i found to be very pleasant especially when sun was going down and it was going cooler. plenty of restaurants and bars to choose from and souvenior shops to browse in even though they seemed to sell the same things, we didnt have no particular favourite eating place it was all nice food.

We hired a car for a week when we booked our holiday with thomson highly recommended, went travelling to some very nice villages and towns including citudella and mahon.

I thought francesca the daytime entertainer was great my daughter and husband joined in most activites including water polo and my daughter joined the kids zone which she enjoyed.

Overall it was a very pleasant 2 week break.

Lovely location, only a short walk away from the beach and a 20 minute walk into cala n forcat. Lovely pool. kids loved the kids club. Very clean apartments.
Entertainment was only 5 nights a week, which was a shame. could of done with more activities in the day.
but overall had a great time and would highly recommend, that was the 2nd time we have been there.

" Just returned from 14 nights at the... "

Just returned from 14 nights at the Vsta Blanes Appartments and had a great time. What I will give is a honest review based on my family break. The reception was helpful, the bar staff were excelent and were great with the kids and the food was good value, although like everywhere on the island drinks and ice cream is expensive compared to the cost of a meal. Entertainment is water polo, football, volleyball, table tennis, and killer pool all ran by Franchesca who works hard but really need help as its too much for one person to do effectively. Evening entertainment consists acts brought in which can be hit and miss, Craig John (Queen) was the worst act I saw by far and that was not just my view.

Cleaning, you have to empty to your own bins which is not a problem as the main bins are just outside the hotel. The cleaners can set a world record for cleaning your room, mainly changed the towels every 2 days, and bedding every four days. We found the floor dirty when we arrived and we kept cleaning it ourselves, but dont get me wrong the rooms are not that bad, just the cleaners are!

Kids club the girls were fantastic and really entertained the kids and really do work hard.

Sun beds at the complex are first come first served and yes its towels down in true German style. A shop is on the complex and they have most things and pricing is not too bad compaired to the other shops. The bus stop is near to the hotel.

The nearest beach is 2 minutes walk away, which gets busy, but needs cig ends picking up and the locals have no problem with sitting on top of you, but the sea is great to swim in and safe for the kids as it stays shallow some way out.

Menorca is quiet and never changes, the weather is great, the locals are friendly, and the complex is good, although the only thing that I would say is some of the parents stay in the bar and let the kids do what they want and they could consider other people are on holiday ( but I guess this is a Uk thing as we see it here as well ).
