Me and a few frineds stayed at the colombus and were disgusted by the way the staff treated us. we did not have a cleaner for 5 days and we were only there for 7 we had to ask the reception to ask the cleaners to come in. The security guard should be sacked as he actually beat one of the guys up we know as he come in from a night out . He chased me and my friend to our room after shouting at us in Spanish then we got told of the next day by the manager as we come in at 3am and were apparently laughin to loud as we walked to our hotel room. I would never go back to this hotel, The food was also 2/10 it had the same menu everyday.
so if your a young brit stayin at the columbus you have been warned and girls watch out for the security guard he tend to like young females as he also touched our bum one of the nights to! but the staff were not interested when they were told

My wife and i have stayed at the Hotel 4 times and have found it to be a nice place and well situated close to man y Bars and Restaurants I found the Hotel Staff very friendly in fact the girl at reception recognized my wife from a previous visit and came from behind the desk to hug her and welcome us both back to the hotel and the bar Staff i recognized a server and we thought he would never remember me but i was wrong as he also made a point to come over to me and welcome me back to the Hotel and wish us a pleasant stay Even the maids were very friendly and said hello as we met them the rooms I'll admit need refurbishing but for the price you pay well worth the money I feel We ate in the restaurant and the food was always Fresh and very good We also ate at the Chinese restaurant and again the food was excellent and the staff willing to accommate our requests Look forward to our next trip back and again will stay at the columbus we have stayed at the Santa Maria and never again very noisy

We arrived on this holiday on Friday 3rd April for 2 weeks. On this trip to tenerife me and my husband took our granddaughter away with us too. We go out to tenerife because we have another granddaughter who lives out here who we like to go and have regular eater visits.
The food in the hotel is absolutely wonderful. We had breakfast where you could pick whatever you liked and you could have a choice of a hot drink, a cold drink or a cup of water. We did our own self catering at lunch everyday so we usually went to a shop just round the corner called Hiperdino to get rolls and crisps and things like that. We also ate in the restaurant at dinner which there was a wide selection of food ranging from soup to hot and cold meals. You could also have water from the tank or go to the bar and pay for some drinks including fizzy and alchohal.
The maids came everyday which was great and they always made the beds and cleaned the floor and changed the towels. The only thing ia about the cleaning we did not like it when the maids came in and the only quickly clean the floor so it is not that clean and we only had pour beds changed once whilst our stay for 2 weeks at this hotel.
The entertainment throughout the day was great. The 'Woo Hoo Wakey Wakey' lady would come round three times a day with three different activities for you to take part in and win prizes and most of all have fun. There is also a kids play park that is really good fun for kids but might be needed to be cleaned a bit more often. The night entertainment was not as good because there isnt much on so at night we go and entertain ourselves.
We did ask for a quiet hotel but the only things we can complain about is the bin rubbish is colllected at about 1 am in the morning which is quite disturbing and people always are coming back quite early in the morning but you cannot help that because people are just enjoying there holiday in a different way to you.
I think the pool bar service was quick and effecent and the reception service was great too.
We also went on a day trip to Loro Parque, which we needed help to book but all we had to do was ask the Thomson reps in the hotel and we were well away and it was a lovely day out especially for children!!
Well the Aparthotel Columbus is the place for a lovely nice quiet holiday and is great for children.

  • Holiday Date:Apr 2009
  • Advice: I would tell them that The Aparthotel Columbus is an absolutely great hotel and you have to visit.

Staying at this aparthotel (that is being kind) was like going back in time. The rooms were sadly in need of decoration. Our room had roller marks where walls had just been touched up in a different colour to the rest of the walls which only served to make it look grubby. There were no kettles supplied and the rental for this appliance was 15 euros for a week, we bought a travel one for 9 euros! Even though most nights we didn't get back to our room until 1 a.m. we tried to be quiet but needn't have bothered as the noise from other people coming back to their rooms was horrendous, we were woken up on average four to five times per night and I even had someone knocking at the door at 5.50 am who obviously thought it was their room. I am unsure why this has a three star rating I would have said giving it a 1 star would be over-rating it and it is more suited for the 18-30's age group who want to go out till dawn.

On arriving at the hotel colubus the service at reception was a disgrace we waited 35mins to book in only two other couples in the reception waiting. the all inclusive is a joke the bar was at the far end of the hotel and you had to pay for your refreshments in the other two bars.Meals were basic we ate out most days. The staff were very unhelpful most of the time but the security guard was very freindly the management and staff should take a good look at their customer service.Tenerife is a wonderful place and outside the hotel pepole are very freinly. our room was not cleaned the whole week we stayed.

This hotel needs to be refurbished. It is an ugly building resembling a tenement block with a huge wall surrounding it. Pool area always shady & did not seem clean. We booked half board but never ate there as the restaurant looked awful and anyway there are plenty of good, reasonably priced restaurants nearby. Room not too bad, quite clean & comfortable. I would not stay at this hotel again but it was not bad enough to spoil our holiday.

my partner and I stayed in this hotel for 6 weeks self catering.I will start will the good points. We heard the food was very good, but you were only allowed to collect one drink at a time ,so if you went as a couple you both had to go together risking loosing your table. Drinks for the all inclusive stops at 11pm entertainment starts at 11.15! work that one out. Now to the rest. We were put in room 277 overlooking the noisy pool area, no sun . the room was filthy, maids knocked once before barging in, not giving you a chance to make yourself decent. room was very dark, dismal and the whole hotel is in a desperate need of a re furbishment. We moved to a room then on the 5th floor, right near the lifts, a bit brighter,no cleaner but it did have sun and a lovely view. We asked if we could have a room with a double bed and were told we do not have double beds. This hotel is best suited for young groups of people wanting to make as much noise as possible as the design of the buildings acts as an echo chamber, and youngsters have great fun shouting from one floor to another. We were on the phone to the reception just about every night asking for their not so enthusiastic security men to come and calm the stag parties down. One night it got so bad the police were called and people were roughed up and thrown out.We spoke to people that had been using this hotel for 12 years and they said it had got so bad they would not be going again. The best part of this holiday, getting on the flight home !!!!!!

me and my boyfriend stayed in this hotel in june 2008 for a week. we didnt eat in the hotels restaurant so i cannot comment on the food. we did find the reception staff a bit snooty and unhelpful. the bar staff however were really pleasant and made a drink in the bar very pleasant. our room was ok but could have done with a bit of modernisation, cleaners were slightly annoying though walking in without knocking but we did have a really nice holiday and the hotel was close to both the beaches and only a 5 minute walk from the main nightlife strip. our room was clean when we arrived and new towels everyday. i would recommend this hotel to somebody who wants cheap accomodation and who wont be in the hotel that often. after all you get what you pay for.

just come back from las americas /tenerife the only good thing about it was the weather.we stayed in the hotel columbus and i can honestly say i would never stop there again.the set up in the restaraunt is all wrong and to get your meal even if you just want more chips you will have to get at the back of a long queue and queue through all the cold food section then the hot section until you come to the chips.the waiters ,well there isnt enough of them and some of the time you will have to find a table and clear it then set it up yourself.there was always someone having problems and complaining.
the cleaners seamed friendly but on a couple of occations i noticed the odd 2 euro coin missing, then on our return home my wife had a small purse with 5 £20 notes in it when she opened it at home £60 of this had been taken , the only way this could have been taken is by the cleaners

Columbus Aparthotel, Playa de las Americas

We arrived in Tenerife looking forward to a relaxing short break only to find out when we arrived at the hotel we had booked in a quiet area of Playa de las Americas that it was fully booked and we were being transferred to another. Not much option really as we didn't much fancy sleeping on the beach.
The Columbus Aparthotel certainly looked the part from outside, nice modern building and during our stay the staff proved to be fine.
To their credit when we contacted flyglobespan when we found out what this hotel was really like they were less than pleased with the local booking agents and did offer to try to find us alternative accommodation but since we were only staying 5 nights decided to stick with what we had rather than risk the local agents finding something even worse.
The room we were given was on the south side of the building and was ideal for sitting out enjoying the winter sunshine and listening to the grumblings of our fellow guests sunning themselves below as every hour on the hour the 'Yoo-hoo wakey wakey woman' would make an appearance parading around screaming her lungs out trying to elicit some interest in hotel activities.
On the serious side though, security at the hotel was appalling, 3 handbags were stolen from the dining room and we found that staff would let themselves into the room for no apparent reason and the internal door lock wasn’t working.
Cleanliness of the room was OK but not outstanding, the only cockroach I saw was crawling around outside the pool area and the sheets including the uncomfortable waterproof terry towelling undersheet were shaken about daily
The hotel is also extremely noisy at night, entertainment doesn’t start until 11.15pm is also located atop 2 pubs and about 2 blocks from the local hospital so expect sirens all day and night. The local glass recycling lorry arrives about 4am and the cleaners start about 7am.
About the only thing that didn’t disappoint was the food, sure there are queues at the buffet and you have to use a plastic cup to drink from but the quality was fine.
The local characters are interesting and this includes the 3 homeless who reside in cardboard boxes behind the smaller pool, don't worry about them though they don't approach tourists and only hang about outside.
The hotel’s probably OK if you’re young, free, single and don’t know any better but not for a quiet relaxing break.
Would I go back? Tenerife - definitely. Columbus Aparthotel – only if it was outrageously cheap.
