This was our first time to Jamaica and we loved it. I am disabled and walk with a walking stick, and everyone was so accommodating. I was on a ground floor room around the swimming pool, which is a quiet area of the resort and everything was so accessable to me. There was... more

We read a lot of reviews about this place before we booked and most were favourable but with reservations. We went with an open mind, which was just as well. We contacted them in advance and were given a room on the first floor overlooking the garden and terrace. Our... more

Hands down the BEST Vacation for the money spent
I just got back from a 7 night vacation at Club Ambiance and am wishing I was still there... Granted, this hotel is probably not for everyone but if you enjoy total relaxation on a smaller more intimate level your going to have a blast. The nightly entertainment, the Safari disco and even midnight swims are excellent. IRIE!!!
This is no bargin!!!
Save your money and go elsewhere!! The hotel is run down and the food leaves alot to be desired. I had to change rooms because a gigantic bug attacked me on the balcony. The sliding glass door would not close and the bathroom was dirty. This was a deluxe room!! The hotel staff members are nice which is the nicest thing I can say about the property. Be certain if you see a number of negative rating, there are problems.
Chill out
Spent 14 days in this wonderful, peaceful hotel. Small and friendly.Excellent live band 6 nights a week, finishing at 11pm for those who want an early night. Nothing is to much trouble for the staff. You can chill out or take part in the organised activities. Can't wait to return.
Torn!
Upon seeing the resort, I was disappointed, but I had read reviews that warned me that I wasn't going to experience luxury. I can deal with that, the very modest rooms, and the lack of a real beach. I found the main problem to be the terrible water pressure and the fact that for about 4 hours we were without any water. Despite the negatives, the resort was extremely peaceful. I enjoyed being able to relax in such a peaceful environment. The staff was better than exceptional. Neil and Chris were part of the entertainment staff and they kept me in stitches. Gary was the friendliest bartender who had no problems making the drinks to my liking. Lastly, the different people there from all over the world were very nice. The calming and close atmosphere of the resort made getting to know all of the guests possible. In sum, the resort will be what you make of it. Despite the few problems, I enjoyed myself.
Yesssss!
We just returned from 7 nights at Club Ambiance and can say nothing negative about it. Granted it is not for everyone as it is very laid back. We found it to be the friendliest resort we have seen...both in staff and in guests. There was sufficient to abundant everything that we desired. Please note, we went to chill, not to have tons of thrills and entertainment. A note regarding the guests (numerous) that we met....they were ALL very interesting and full of life. Would we go back? YES! We have pics and stories so feel free to write if we can help.
Great Vacation!!! Awesome People!!!
First off, like another review on here, I was wondering what I had got myself into with this place. I didn't really know what to expect, but after spending 5 minutes on the property of Club Ambiance I knew it was going to be all right. The staff at Club Ambiance is soooo great. They practically bend over backwards to help you in anyway possible. Not only do they help you in anyway but they also go out of their way to remember you and some even call you by name after the frist time you meet. The rooms were very nice. We did have some small ants in the bathroom but we took care of they with some hairspray. Didn't see them again all week. No problems with hot water at all. The food was great. Not everything was great but over all the food was super. The chef that cooks for you every night at the end of the buffet made it that much better. Vanette our waitress was perfect. I wish the service in the states was like this. My glass never got over 1/3 of the way empty. The reason I gave this only 4 stars and not 5 is because of the beach area. It is very small and somewhat rocky. But the area is perfect for snorkeling or boating. Just don't expect to go walking on the beach here. Then we come to the bar and the drinks. The rum was flowing. Must try a "Bob Marley" shot, and a "Miami Vice" drink. These were awesome. O'Neal from the bar was awesome too. One night he was suppose to get off at 1:00 from the pier bar, but to accomidate, only about 6 of us he stayed until after 2am. Note: He was off the clock at 1:00. The nightly events were great as well. The crab racing was hilarious. I wish I had it on tape to show my family. It was on the floor funny. I felt like I was at that KY Derby for Crabs. Shawna & Damion were great with the entertainment. Damion was on funny sob. Over-all great vacation and wouldn't hesitate a minute to go back to Club Ambiance. In fact look forward to going back very soon.
Superb Trip to Club Ambiance
Just returned this week from our first trip to Club Ambiance in Runaway Bay. It was a 20th anniversary trip so there was much hope for a great time while we were there. I must say we were more than pleased. Our room was large and more than adequate. We stayed in a standard room beside the pool. Never had any noise problems at all. The food was great. Ample amounts and the quality was fabulous. We did choose to have the lobster and pay extra one evening. It was good also. The pool is large and never crowded. We had heard that they run out of beach towels but never had a problem. The beach isn't large but never did bother us at all. The one thing that I am amazed at that they don't advertise more is the quality of snorkling there. The colors of the coral, the fish and all you can see withing 100 yards of the beach is fabulous. Great for beginners. But like everyone has said, the staff is the best we have found anywere. No staff we have met compares. We could name 15 people who work there by name and they knew us. If you go, sit with Peter, Dwayne or Ameka as your table waiters. Neil, Shauna and Damion are great with the entertainment. JB is over the water and beach front. Gilbert is the food and beverage director. All of these folks are there to help you. Tipping was never expected, but we wanted to say thanks before we left and you will too. Would we go again, YOU BET!
Great Holiday
My husband and I stayed at Club Ambiance for a week in March 2003 and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The initial arrival at MoBay Airport and the crazy transfer to hotel were a real introduction to the Caribbean way of life. It was admittedly a culture shock, totally different from what we had expected with the vast differences between the rich hotels and the more residential areas. The hotel however was exactly what we had hoped for. Small, quiet and extremely friendly with a wonderful atmosphere. The room was large, very clean, air conditioned, well furnished and with a very large king sized bed although maybe the quite adequate bathroom could be updated in the future. The pool and jacuzzi were wonderful and there was pleanty of opportunity to swim and snorkel in the ocean if one looked a just a few feet from the pool. Admittedly the beach area is small but it is adequate and the hammocks are great. The food is pleantiful, very well cooked, presented and of good variety. With a buffet style you eat as much as you want in the wonderful restaurant or some evenings outside on the terrace. The bar we used on the coconut terrace was always welcoming with generous measures of the alcoholic kind. The entertainment was different every night and showtime on the terrace started at approximately 9.15 pm until about 10.00 pm and was varied and generally excellent. The action then moved into the disco's - either the Safari Disco or the Pier End Disco. Admittedly though if you want a heavy nightlife Runaway Bay is very quiet and probably not for you. It is however well situated for some of Jamaica's great attractions with the hotel minibus. The shop in the hotel we felt very reasonable and the girls in in wonderful characters. The tour desk was really useful, reasonably priced and very obliging. All in all we had a wonderful time because we made the effort to make to most of our stay there and see the island with is vast contrasts and great beauty rather than let things come to us. Thanks to Oliver and his wonding this hotel for a quiet, friendly holiday anytime. We are looking forward to our return visit.
Club Ambiance, No Problem
After seeing some of the reviews of Club Ambiance, my wife and I were wondering what we'd gotten ourselves into. Pulling into the driveway and seeing the exterior of the building in comparison to other resorts which we passed along the way didn't do much too ease our minds. But once we checked in and got onto the grounds, the "ambiance" of Club Ambiance took over, and we couldn't have asked for more. It is true that the grounds and facilities fail in comparison to some of the superchains (Sandals, etc.), but Ambiance makes up for it with an atmosphere that the big resorts can't offer. The meals were all wonderful. The drinks were plentiful (gotta try the Dirty Banana...). There was always something to do all the way to the wee hours of the morning. The size of the resort lends itself to being intimate enough that you actually meet people and form friendships. And there are not enough positive things to say about the staff. From groundskeepers to dining room staff, from bartenders to enterainment (big up Chris & Neil), everyone bent over backwards to ensure that you had a great time. It seemed that the people working at Ambiance really loved what they do. It really seemed that the staff and guests meshed together to form a very unique, very special environment. My wife and I were skeptic's going in, but learned the Jamiacan phrase/attitude "No Problem", relaxed, enjoyed the sun and the people, had an awesome time, and by the time we had to leave, we were believers in Club Ambiance. We would definitely go back and I couldn't recommend it more.
Not Impressed - could be fun for some - but not for us!
My sister and I stayed at Club Ambience last week, and although we managed to make the best of the situation - our vacation was far from perfect. In case you were wondering, we happen to be savvy travelers in our early 20's, with quite a high tolerence for rustic conditions and anything else that comes our way. However, in writing this review, we wanted to give a message to anyone contemplating this resort, to give you a clear heads up on what to expect. We made a list of pro's and con's below:PRO * Many of the staff members are amazing and helpful. * The food was quite good. * Comfortable beds and nice balcony in our room. * Some of the live music performances were great. * We did enjoy meeting some of the other guests. CON * As single women, we were constantly harrassed and bothered by male staff members (they even wouldn't leave us alone even after we made it clear we were not interested). * The beach is crappy - about the length of 5 cars, and only about waist deep. * Overall, the grounds are a bit run-down and certainly could use a new coat of paint. * We didn't have hot water in our room until day 3 (had to complain first - before it was fixed). * The daily "activities" were very loud, lame and annoying. The staff often tried to force us to participate, and it was difficult to "escape." * We slept to the tun of loud music coming from the strip club across the street. * The drinks were OK, but very, very tiny. * Only were allowed to kyak and snorkle in a very small and boring area. In general, we recommend spending a few extra dollars to stay somewhere nice.
