" our stay at Vista Dorada "
Submitted By: twirlyThe blurb provided with the site for "Vista Dorada" is very much like the place. out of date and run down. no supermarket, no games room, not much of anything other than the bungalows. Very basic, very worn, but exceptionally clean, and kept clean daily.
If you hope for a "bungalow" round the pool, forget it, they've sold 'em off like a lot of the others. Then again you won't need the pool. It is advertised as heated, but it dosn't say when. While we were there for our 2 weeks the sea was warmer. FACT
I could go on but I will finish by saying we would not go back, Take my advice stay away...............

Submitted By: Mrs K GoldsmithOur room was spacious comfortable and well located to the swimming pool which had a child’s section which was ideal for our 2 yr old son. The room had a wonderful view of maspalomas. The maids came to clean the room and replace the towels at least 5 times during our 1 wk stay.
There is also a child’s play area which kept our little monster happy for hours. I can’t think of anything that was not of a gd standard. We just wish the weather had been a bit better, never mind it will be in October.
Vista Dorada here we come, definitely recommend it

Submitted By: Mr D CWe arrived at night and were given a map of building and had to cart suit cases to our bungalow but I'm a strong lad so that was all good.
The bungalow was cracker inside, it had all the essentials.
The next morning we had a better look around, everything was clean and tidy. Outside was a patio with table and chairs and in the garden were 3 sun loungers. At night there is a great view of holiday world from gardens.
The swimming pool was clean and quite big. The poolside bar was very good, barmen friendly. At night the entertainment was quite poor, and bar/restaurant was quite quiet.
There is a little newsagent type shop beside the pool and if you go out through main entrance of vista Dorado and turn left, there is a big spar shop with clothes/food/gifts/alcohol.
Next door to the spar is a lovely Italian restaurant that I went to quite a bit.
There is a back entrance/exit of vista Dorado which is accessed through an intercom.
You go out the gate down a dry mucky hill and there is a bus stop. Across the road is a very good park with a café, play area and great big water feature (cannot remember name of park).
My cousin was staying nearby and we took my her little girl there a lot (great place to spend a few hours) In the vista Dorado there is also internet access which is good if your looking to check emails.
At night my cousin and I went down to holiday world or Playa Del Ingles which was a lot of craic. Down in Playa Del Ingles there is a mad shopping centre, Yumbo. BEST PLACE!!
10 walk from vista Dorado there is another shopping centre, faro2 which is quite good also but Yumbo had great night life.
Overall I was really happy with my holiday in Vista Dorado.

Submitted By: Sl CoxThe location was a 20 minute walk into main areas, it is situated in a quiet area, with a spar supermarket just outside.
Taxis are frequent outside the apartments if you don’t want to walk, courtesy bus to beach, some apartments had trouble with ants.
But if we had read other reviews first, we would not have booked it, but we are going back on 15th Feb. 2007 for another week because we really enjoyed ourselves, try it for yourselves.

Submitted By: Mr P BlakeI stayed here with my family. Myself 23 and my 2 brothers who are 20 and 13 stayed in one apartment and the folks in another. Me and my brothers found the apartments to be ok although fairly basic, but your on holiday right? You don't want to spend all your time in there. I agree that the towels and bedding were not change daily but do we do the same at home? The one thing that annoyed me was that the plates etc were not cleaned and the cupboard was damp. The decor does need bringing up to scratch but this didn't affect our opinion and yes there are a few cats.
Anyway negatives over with, we found the pool to be of a good standard, 2 large pools with a separate child’s pool. Plenty of space for sun loungers which there were plenty of, however we did go between 18th-25th Dec. The pool area has a fantastic view over Maspalomas towards the sand dunes and beach. This is also true for the view from the apartment gardens. There was a children’s playground but we are a bit old for that now but it looked good and safe too. The walkways to the apartments are well lit and safe. The only entrances to the site is via reception and a gate at the bottom of the site which is locked and access is gained via an intercom system which has cctv. The staff are friendly and speak good English.
Outside the site there is a spar supermarket which is less than 1 minute walk to your left. You can not miss it as it has a big sign above it. The restaurant next to it is very good i recommend the steak in pepper sauce and the mixed salad as a main course. The staff were very friendly and we choose this restaurant for our Christmas eve meal. If you turn right out of the site then walk for about 3-5 mins and turn left just before the big orange hotel then there is a nice little restaurant on the right about 2 mins up the road. They make the pizzas pretty much in front of you. Both were very reasonably priced. Taxis are not expensive and it costs around 3-4 euros to get to either Faro beach or Playa Ingles.
We found the development around the lighthouse "Faro" to be excellent, good number of restaurants, nice cafes along the promenade and several designer shops. The beach here is good too.
Enjoy your holiday!

Submitted By: Miss C CumminsWe had clean towels when we got there but they where next changed 4 days later and we had them then till we left. When we went to the reception to ask for clean towels they were not helpful and said they only get clean towels twice a week and therefore told us to either use the dirty ones or bring your own. The apartment was cleaned twice and all that was done was the floor mopped. The bedding wasn’t changed all she done was make the bed which most days we done ourselves anyway. The hotel rep wasn't much use at all, we only saw him on the first day and he wasn't very helpful.
The apartment seem like they are in the middle of nowhere you need to get at Taxi to go out of a night as there is nothing around there, and to go to the beach you have to get a coach from the apartments. The only good thing that is by the apartments is a little Italian restaurants which is to the left as you come out of the hotel and is situated next to the Spar supermarket. The food in here was fantastic and was really cheap and the staff where great! The taxi to playa de ingles was around 4.50-5 euros which isn’t bad but you had no choice but to pay that unless you wanted to stay in the boring apartments.
The beds in the apartment where like a rock and where so uncomfortable and you daren’t turn over as the noise woke the other person up they were that creaky. I am glad we were only there for a week because I don't think we could had lasted two weeks in the horrible apartments.
So I would not recommend going to Club Vistor Dorada to anyone. I would recommend for the more lively area and to be in walking distance of the beach, bars and restaurants you stay in Playa De Ingles, we had many great nights there just it was spoiled by having to return to a horrible room and have the scary walk down dark walkways.

Submitted By: Mrs J BootheOut of the seven days I was there the bungalow was cleaned five times. There was no air conditioning which was a problem because of the heat at night and made it hard to sleep. But I had a front garden overlooking wonderful views of holiday world which looked very nice when lit up at night.
Although there was nothing on the complex to do in the evening turning right out of reception and a short walk you will find a German bar, Italian restaurant, large supermarket, gift shop and an arcade which kept my son entertained.
Holiday World with a large funfair and big bowling alley and bars all in 1 complex is just a short distance away. Aqualand was a great day out and great for the family. The free bus to the nearest beach took you to the lovely sand dunes of maspalomas. In conclusion it was an enjoyable holiday with friendly staff and a clean site.

Submitted By: Mr R HardieHowever seeing as most of the guests were Spanish or German who knows what they consider as a good standard of food. We did however find the restaurant across the road next to the Spar did a great fillet steak. Everywhere else seemed to closed down.
As for the so called holiday rep, where would you like me to start. He did his job like he was reading from an auto cue. Absolutely no personality, and was never around! We found the excursions quite expensive and he had about as much enthusiasm for them as a dead frog. We found Jane the Anfi Del Mar rep was far more helpful, (by the way we had a great day out there the place is fabulous, and no pressure, a must see, and its free).
The apartment was basic but on the whole clean, could do with an upgrade and the beds were pants! The ant problem was a pain but we didn't have any cockroaches in the apartment and only a couple outside. There was a lot of cats!
The pool was great when you could get near it, cleaned every day but the sun beds were ancient. The Spanish guests guard them fiercely, but hey they need a holiday too!
Local people did arrive daily and use the pool, when there was a sign saying guests only.
The hotel was out of the way and its a good job the taxis were cheep, We saw a dead rat on the road outside and the hill up to the hotel was not for the faint hearted.
Overall we had a not bad holiday, as we were prepared to go out and find our own entertainment, There is no way we could have stayed in the hotel all week, the entertainment was non-existent, however we did find the bar staff friendly and we met some nice people there. One thing that really cheesed us off was half way through the week the bar prices went up by about 50% with no warning (€2.20 for a pint up to €3.50).

Submitted By: Miss E DevlinI have to say though things got better as the holiday went on. Entertainment is advertised in reception and contrary to belief it does take place as we ourselves found out one night when we were roped in to do karaoke!
The barmen do try their best I have to say, it is just the sheer lack of people who actually turn up at the bar at night time! Although we did have a laugh with the barmen, Bernardo is hilarious and Abel was quite handsome! They speak good English too and we got a few free drinks out of them.
The bungalows are basic and as we were on self catering we ate out a bit as meals are cheap around 5 Euro each. There is a spar 2mins walk away and large supermarket 5 mins away. We also took advantage of the free bus ticket to the beach. We went on a trip to the waterpark, 'aqualand' and mogan market (trips organised by my travel) which were great!
As for the cockroaches we only saw one again the day we left. All in all we paid for a cheaper holiday and got what we paid for. We both thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it too anyone who doesn't mind not being in 5* luxury.

Submitted By: Mr R HastonA request to change rooms/accommodation was largely ignored. We asked for an extra pillow which took THREE DAYS the best excuse was that the cleaner had gone home and no-one had a key to the cupboard. We did get clean sheets and towels but these were left in a poly bag by the door and we had to make up the beds ourselves while a member of staff waited to take away the dirty ones.
The food was AWFUL. At breakfast first the juice machine didn't work then on the last 3 days the coffee machine was temperamental, then broke altogether. We gave up trying to have dinner it was the same stuff every night.
Little choice and absolutely no nutritional value. On the last morning our plates were removed from the table whilst we were still eating from them. There is no entertainment although this is advertised in reception.
The pool area was the only one we saw being cleaned and attended to. Although there were loungers you had to be there at 10am when they were unlocked or you had no chance. We had to buy air mattresses. Please don’t go here, you will regret it.

Submitted By: Mr GK MacDonaldOur apartment was moving in cockroaches . Ahh and you can’t even stand on them . So we had to brush them all out and eventually had to get our apartment gassed out . To get rid of them .
The view from our apartment was erm...crap . We could see bushes and trees and listen to the roaring sound of mopeds going past . (Nice )
The days out were great ..... I really enjoyed them . And go to Sioux City it’s really good and for the adults they have and open bar . (I was well gutted imp only 15.. ) lol
Well overall...it’s not worth the money we paid . (Well which my mum paid . ) So don’t go.
