WE wouldn't return to the bungalows

We recently went self-catering at Vista Dorada, it was a last minute deal and as a young couple all we wanted was just a break away from raining England so we can't moan too much. The weather certainly didn't let us down and was very hot. However certain things just really cheesed us off.
Initially when picked up from the airport the bus driver didnt know where he was taking us and didnt know where the hotel was when we told him, and then had to give him the address!! thought this was very perculiar also throughout holiday numerous taxi drivers didnt know where it existed either and we ended up directing them!!
When we arrived we found we had to go down lots of hills and steps to get to the apartment, not the end of the world as we're both young but we sure don't miss those steps!!
Once in the apartment WE found we had cockroaches and although the apartment seemed really clean and the crockery was clean we were on constant watch for cockroaches when we reported it we were told "yes we have cockroaches" later on we were given some spray to fumigate them with (not the best idea of fun on a holiday) over a week we found around 12, some of these we found almost dead in the morning. we tried cooking in the apartment as food in the area was ridiculously expensive and was no different to prices in England. However we gave up cooking when a roach ran out at me while I was cooking some eggs!!
My other half also had to share his bath with a family of ants, we also found ants feeding on a dead roach in the cupboard (not good at all)
WE asked for a double room but given two single beds taht we had to push together and with only single sheets pretty much selpt apart in the end as you would fall down crack in betwen beds. The beds were changed once in our stay and the towels only twice which seemed very limited to me as there was no air conditioning and the weather was hot new sheets would have been a blessing.
The pool was good and had no problem getting sunloungers, yes the pool was cold but also very refreshing and very quiet which was great. The restaurant in vista dorada has a new limited menu but was brilliant and the barman was very nice and we had a few good nights in the bar!! the italian over the road was lovely and the huge spar next to the itailan was useful too!
Wouldn't reccommend if you have children as nothing to do except holiday world which seemed quite pricey.
The locals seemed friendly enough and one of the receptionists was lovely. the scuba diving place up the road was brilliant and the tutors lovely guys definitly reccommend this : )
However we wont be returning as having to look for cockroaches as soon as you get up in the morning and every time you enter the flat is not our idea of a relaxing week especially having to breath in the fumes of the spray we had to put down.
Reccommend you try a more popluated area of gran canaria. : (

myself, husband and daughter went to gran canaria vista dorada in march 2009.when we booked this we was lead to believe that there was a supermarket, shop, internet access and a shuttle bus for free to the near by beach, there were none of these. we were told to beach was a 10 minute stroll, this was a good hour. the facilities were less than basic and were up in the hills with nothing to see or do, I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS

We have just returned after 2 weeks at" Vista Dorada"
The blurb provided with the site for "Vista Dorada" is very much like the place. out of date and run down. no supermarket, no games room, not much of anything other than the bungalows. Very basic, very worn, but exceptionally clean, and kept clean daily.
If you hope for a "bungalow" round the pool, forget it, they've sold 'em off like a lot of the others. Then again you won't need the pool. It is advertised as heated, but it dosn't say when. While we were there for our 2 weeks the sea was warmer. FACT
I could go on but I will finish by saying we would not go back, Take my advice stay away...............

Aug 2008, Miss St Turnbull

Hi, me and my family have just came back from a lovely 2 weeks in vista dorada, gran caneria. As we went all inclusive, i give the food 9 out of 10, the food was lovely and always had a good selection of meals and deserts. As for the cleaners and the reception staff they were always helpful and all you had to do was ask.The pool was always very clean and the area was always clean and tidy.
I will defently go to vista dorada again .
People who say vista dorada is 1,2,3 or 4 out of 10 . you oviously want to book a
5 star hotel . ha.

Apr 2008, Miss H Lawson

I stayed here in june 06.I hated it!! For a start we were supposed to be staying in Playa del ingles in a hotel with a pool view!! When infact it was a bungalow in maspalomas over looking nothing!!! It was in the middle of no where. We got there about 1.30am. When we got there they couldn't find us on the computer and when we got to our bungalow it was full of spiders and roaches. In the morning we trailed up about 50+ steps to the pool( not good if you get breathless or are elderly). We saw a few people leaving in taxies with suitcases that had arrived with us the night before; they were leaving already!!! There are no restaurants around the bungalows and only two shops. Our sunbeds broke and the local spanish kids kept kicking me and trying to break our digital camera. When my mum tried to say something to them about it they just laughed because they couldn't understand us!!! We rang our the "24" hour customer service to complain but it was in another country!!! When we got hold of our rep after ringing round for about 2hrs we managed to be moved along with about another 4 or 5 complaining families and couples to the jardin del atlantico in playa del ingles with a pool veiw :-] So after a bad start to the holiday at the vista dorada we had a fantastic time at the Jardin del atlantico!!!! Go there instead!! xxx

My husband and I and our 2 yr old son...

Mar 2007, Mrs K Goldsmith

My husband and I and our 2 yr old son have just returned from a wk self catering in the vista dorada and are pleased to say we had a fab time. We stay twice a yr in sonnenland but have never stayed here before but will definitely return
Our room was spacious comfortable and well located to the swimming pool which had a child’s section which was ideal for our 2 yr old son. The room had a wonderful view of maspalomas. The maids came to clean the room and replace the towels at least 5 times during our 1 wk stay.
There is also a child’s play area which kept our little monster happy for hours. I can’t think of anything that was not of a gd standard. We just wish the weather had been a bit better, never mind it will be in October.
Vista Dorada here we come, definitely recommend it

I’m a 19yr old lad and went on...

Feb 2007, Mr D C

I’m a 19yr old lad and went on holiday with my mum.
We arrived at night and were given a map of building and had to cart suit cases to our bungalow but I'm a strong lad so that was all good.
The bungalow was cracker inside, it had all the essentials.

The next morning we had a better look around, everything was clean and tidy. Outside was a patio with table and chairs and in the garden were 3 sun loungers. At night there is a great view of holiday world from gardens.
The swimming pool was clean and quite big. The poolside bar was very good, barmen friendly. At night the entertainment was quite poor, and bar/restaurant was quite quiet.
There is a little newsagent type shop beside the pool and if you go out through main entrance of vista Dorado and turn left, there is a big spar shop with clothes/food/gifts/alcohol.
Next door to the spar is a lovely Italian restaurant that I went to quite a bit.
There is a back entrance/exit of vista Dorado which is accessed through an intercom.
You go out the gate down a dry mucky hill and there is a bus stop. Across the road is a very good park with a café, play area and great big water feature (cannot remember name of park).
My cousin was staying nearby and we took my her little girl there a lot (great place to spend a few hours) In the vista Dorado there is also internet access which is good if your looking to check emails.
At night my cousin and I went down to holiday world or Playa Del Ingles which was a lot of craic. Down in Playa Del Ingles there is a mad shopping centre, Yumbo. BEST PLACE!!
10 walk from vista Dorado there is another shopping centre, faro2 which is quite good also but Yumbo had great night life.
Overall I was really happy with my holiday in Vista Dorado.

We booked our holiday 2 weeks before...

Jan 2007, Sl Cox

We booked our holiday 2 weeks before travel. We found the apartment clean and fresh, the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
The location was a 20 minute walk into main areas, it is situated in a quiet area, with a spar supermarket just outside.
Taxis are frequent outside the apartments if you don’t want to walk, courtesy bus to beach, some apartments had trouble with ants.
But if we had read other reviews first, we would not have booked it, but we are going back on 15th Feb. 2007 for another week because we really enjoyed ourselves, try it for yourselves.

I have given the Vista Dorada...
5 / 10
Dec 2006, Mr P Blake

I have given the Vista Dorada apartments a 5 star rating. There are many positives and yes there are some negatives points too. Don't allow previous scores and remarks to spoil your perception of the apartments.
I stayed here with my family. Myself 23 and my 2 brothers who are 20 and 13 stayed in one apartment and the folks in another. Me and my brothers found the apartments to be ok although fairly basic, but your on holiday right? You don't want to spend all your time in there. I agree that the towels and bedding were not change daily but do we do the same at home? The one thing that annoyed me was that the plates etc were not cleaned and the cupboard was damp. The decor does need bringing up to scratch but this didn't affect our opinion and yes there are a few cats.
Anyway negatives over with, we found the pool to be of a good standard, 2 large pools with a separate child’s pool. Plenty of space for sun loungers which there were plenty of, however we did go between 18th-25th Dec. The pool area has a fantastic view over Maspalomas towards the sand dunes and beach. This is also true for the view from the apartment gardens. There was a children’s playground but we are a bit old for that now but it looked good and safe too. The walkways to the apartments are well lit and safe. The only entrances to the site is via reception and a gate at the bottom of the site which is locked and access is gained via an intercom system which has cctv. The staff are friendly and speak good English.
Outside the site there is a spar supermarket which is less than 1 minute walk to your left. You can not miss it as it has a big sign above it. The restaurant next to it is very good i recommend the steak in pepper sauce and the mixed salad as a main course. The staff were very friendly and we choose this restaurant for our Christmas eve meal. If you turn right out of the site then walk for about 3-5 mins and turn left just before the big orange hotel then there is a nice little restaurant on the right about 2 mins up the road. They make the pizzas pretty much in front of you. Both were very reasonably priced. Taxis are not expensive and it costs around 3-4 euros to get to either Faro beach or Playa Ingles.
We found the development around the lighthouse "Faro" to be excellent, good number of restaurants, nice cafes along the promenade and several designer shops. The beach here is good too.
Enjoy your holiday!

Me and my friend stayed at Club...
1 / 10
Oct 2006, Miss C Cummins

Me and my friend stayed at Club Vistor Dorada between 14th-22nd October. I was not impressed at all by the apartments. We arrived at the apartments in the middle of the night and to find our room we were given a map and had to walk down dark walkways to get to our room which was a good distance away from the reception and for two young girls on their own it was very scary.
We had clean towels when we got there but they where next changed 4 days later and we had them then till we left. When we went to the reception to ask for clean towels they were not helpful and said they only get clean towels twice a week and therefore told us to either use the dirty ones or bring your own. The apartment was cleaned twice and all that was done was the floor mopped. The bedding wasn’t changed all she done was make the bed which most days we done ourselves anyway. The hotel rep wasn't much use at all, we only saw him on the first day and he wasn't very helpful.
The apartment seem like they are in the middle of nowhere you need to get at Taxi to go out of a night as there is nothing around there, and to go to the beach you have to get a coach from the apartments. The only good thing that is by the apartments is a little Italian restaurants which is to the left as you come out of the hotel and is situated next to the Spar supermarket. The food in here was fantastic and was really cheap and the staff where great! The taxi to playa de ingles was around 4.50-5 euros which isn’t bad but you had no choice but to pay that unless you wanted to stay in the boring apartments.
The beds in the apartment where like a rock and where so uncomfortable and you daren’t turn over as the noise woke the other person up they were that creaky. I am glad we were only there for a week because I don't think we could had lasted two weeks in the horrible apartments.
So I would not recommend going to Club Vistor Dorada to anyone. I would recommend for the more lively area and to be in walking distance of the beach, bars and restaurants you stay in Playa De Ingles, we had many great nights there just it was spoiled by having to return to a horrible room and have the scary walk down dark walkways.

I thought the food was good in the...
7 / 10
Sep 2006, Mrs J Boothe

I thought the food was good in the restaurant, there tended to be the same desserts every night and the ice cream had already melted, but the food was well cooked and tasted all right. The pool was clean and enjoyable. Sun beds were unlocked at ten o clock after breakfast had finished, that didn't seem to be a problem.
Out of the seven days I was there the bungalow was cleaned five times. There was no air conditioning which was a problem because of the heat at night and made it hard to sleep. But I had a front garden overlooking wonderful views of holiday world which looked very nice when lit up at night.
Although there was nothing on the complex to do in the evening turning right out of reception and a short walk you will find a German bar, Italian restaurant, large supermarket, gift shop and an arcade which kept my son entertained.
Holiday World with a large funfair and big bowling alley and bars all in 1 complex is just a short distance away. Aqualand was a great day out and great for the family. The free bus to the nearest beach took you to the lovely sand dunes of maspalomas. In conclusion it was an enjoyable holiday with friendly staff and a clean site.
