Prior to attending I was concerned that the hotel was going to be large and inpersonal, after reading some reviews about it, however there was no need for any concerns. The transfer from the airport took approximately 40 mins, we were the last family to be dropped... more

Arrived Thursday 14th October 2010 for two weeks. Given keys and a map and sent to find our room. Hotel is in blocks, A,B,C,D,E,G,H etc with (at last count) 17 lifts. Some floors are under ground level built on the side of the cliff and some are above. This means a change... more

Extremely large hotel which was quite intimidating on arrival and check in. We where given a map and instructions of how to reach our room which involved taking two lifts and was a bit of a trek with suitcases would have been nice to be taken to our room. Once we got to... more

Having just returned from a week's winter break at the Papagayo Arena Hotel in Playa Blanca, I cannot think of a single fault with it. Rooms were spacious and clean, the staff went out of their way to assist you, and the food was really good. I would have no hesitation in staying here again.

Brillaint Hotel
Stayed at this hotel last year when it had just been built and there were loads of bad reviews then as you can imagine about building work etc, but to be honest the hotel was lovely, the rooms were air conditioned, clean and big, the food was brilliant different every day, the pool was fantastic and the staff always tried to make you have a brill time, they has different entertainment every night and catered very well for kids. There was a bit of building work round the back of the hotel but you cod only see it if you go looking for it which i can imagine thats what most of the people who write about building work ont his site do. So if your looking to go to this hotel and are worried dont be its fantastic. Carol 21
Papagayo Arena (No Thanks)
First time visiters to Lanzarote, liked the Island a great deal, however problems in the hotel spoiled what could have been a good holiday. July 2004 holiday with family, members of which were ill for half of the holiday. Hotel not fully a/c, only one bar had a/c, very hard chairs we carried cushions from another area to enable us to be comfortable. Problems with bar staff who were very miserable, would not serve us with wine or sangria even when we offered payment, it was only when we witnessed Spanish people being served with the afor-mentioned and a visit to the assistant manager,(which took an awful long time to achive) were we served with these drinks. Gifts promised from managment not recvd. Food in pool bar virtually the same every day. Building work at the front on the hotel, plus points fabulous pool area, plenty of sunbeds, however not enough umbrellas. We will not be revisiting this hotel.
Papagayo Arena- no thanks
papagayo arena- no thanks July 2004 we had many problems at the hotel and unfortunately the management were not interested , they acknowledged our problems were real and offered a gift which never arrived. We had food poisioning and were ill for 7 out of our 14 days, needed medical attention. Air conditioning broke for 4 days and was extremely hot, the hotel is only part a/c and lounges/lobby areas to hot. major ugly building work all around the hotel, can not walk outside.bar service very poor, for the first week we were refused, wines, sangria and cocktails even though these were on the all inclusive option, after a week the management did confirm this was a mistake a more became available. There are major leaks all around the hotel, holes driiled in walls and ceilings to let water from the a/c to leak out. The poolside eatery had very bad leaks with paint and mildew on the ceiling. Our room had leaks, broken shower, faulty safe. Hard wooden.wicker chairs everywhere, very little comfort. The only good point were the fabulous pool areas and sea-views. We have travelled extensively and have been to Lanzarote several times this was our worse holiday.
Best summer holiday yet!!
Great hotel that is spotlessly clean. After a short orientation period, you soon found your way around. Stories of still getting lost after 3 days are pathetic! We stayed in B block which faces the beach. It isn`t a great beach but ok for a quick plunge/ change of scenery. The better beaches are a ten minute walk away. The rooms are clean and spacious, i agree the beds are a bit on the stiff side, but certainly not unbearable. The food is first class, with plenty variety and presented well. Drink on tap is fine. The worst meal of the week was in the Chinese. All show , no flavour or variety. More effort is needed here as it is a poor cousin to the main foodhall. The Italian section was pretty good (according to my wife). The pool areas were always clean for the next day, no problems with sunbeds, but a few more parasols would be welcomed. I never found any of the pools cold, and i wonder what sort of tempertures some people want to swim in?! The entertainment was iffy on occasion although the Flamenco dancers were great - stamina and skill in abundance. The organised activities were a bit Spartan, more football games need to be organised! Too often the court was empty when a little arranging would bring out the footballers. The gym is well equipped and pretty well laid out. Why have aircon, aren`t you supposed to get hot in a workout? The big windows are nearly always wide open!! Bar service was normally quite good - these guys work hard for their money so don`t act like some prats and be disrespectful - they serve as fast as they can. We have an 11 year old and we always felt it was safe for him and the friends he met. There are security guards periodically wandering the hotel. All in all i would have no hesitation recomending this hotel. It met and mainly exceeded most of our requirements.
the best hotel we have ever stayed at
The best hotel we have ever stayed at. The rooms are real big and kept clean. The food is just jummy. All the veg is fresh not deepfrozen.Ever day there is something diffrent. In 14 days you don't have to eat the same twice if you do not want to.Drinks everything you can think of.Coctails, pepsi,JB Wiskey ect...all well known brands. I am already looking to book up to go again in the winter. to anybody going please take me with you.
ENJOYABLE HOTEL, LOVELY RESORT
We as a family enjoyed our holiday at this hotel and met lots of people there who were on their second visit in a year. The hotel is vast and was very busy our second week however you could always get a sunbed at any time of day (unusual I know). The food was very good something for everyone although as with all buffet style restaurants food could have been hotter (there are however microwaves available in the dining room). The rooms were large and comfortable didn't find my bed a problem (might be different in other parts of the hotel). Could have done with a few more English channels on the TV but not a problem really as we were not in the room that much. There should be I believe some soft seating areas around the hotel not so much a problem for us but for older people I think a bit more comfort would be appropriate. The entertainment was just what you normally get in any hotel - yet to find one that is any better. The kids were looked after well with a Kids Club twice a day and a mini disco in the evening at 9. Pancakes were available from the pool bar between 4 - 5.15 and my little boy loved them. Overall this is a good hotel any problems you had were addressed quickly and all the staff were very friendly. Having personally visited ALCATRAZ (the San Fran one) this hotel I can assure you is not!!
Avoid at all cost's!!!!!
be prepared for the most uncomfortable bed,s you,ll ever come across, some of the most friendly staff you,ll ever come across, yes there is 3 adult pools, but 2 are allway,s nearly empty being so cold. you,ve got more chance of getting 3 number,s on the lottery than finding a comfortable chair anywhere in the hotel, food -all quite tasty (had better- had worse). there is building work next door but your not effected by it, oh nearly forgot about the entertainment, garbage pathetic, tried using the gym 3 time,s but with no airconditioning was unbearable. ALCATRAZ was the nick name commonly used for the hotel, thank god our 2 weeks is over. you,ve been warned.........
Papagoyo Arena, will definitely return.
Visited in June 2004, we stayed a week and wished we were there longer. Having stayed all inclusive before I thought we would get bored of the food and the drinks would be below average, not in this case. The food quality, choice and variety could not be faulted, I don't think the same dish was served twice. Even the 'on tap' wines were very drinkable. The room decor was an illuminous green but very clean and comfortable, with a really big balcony and lovely sea view. The kids club offered good hours so you could relax on your own and the entertainment staff very very friendly. The only downside was the terrible music played full blast by the pool all day making it difficult to just chill out in this fantastic value for money hotel. We will be going back.
It Was Amazing!!
I thought visiting the Papagayo Arena Resort was great!!! I made some really good friends there and I am still in touch with them, even though I only came back on Monday! (7th June 2004) We only stayed for a week, but I wish it could have been longer! We only ate in the International restaurant, where the food was lovely, and different every night. The snack bar was good for a light lunch as well. The bar and ice-cream hut were easy to find and food and drink was lovely. Lots of activities for people like me ( age 13, nearly 14 ) Animation Team were great, entertainment was good too. We saw acrobats, a comedy/sketch show, flamenco dancers, magic show, playback show (Titanic, Betty Boop, etc.) and one other show which I can't remember! Overall I had a really great holiday, and I'm begging my parents to go again next year!
An honest review
Stayed at Papagayo Arena Resort 15-29 April. First time for all-inclusive but we are very experienced package holiday-makers. Hotel is surrounded by extensive building development so surroundings ugly on the eye and nowhere to walk outside in the evenings (too dangerous). We expected hotel to be in pristine condition as it has only been open for less than a year. However, due to dubious decor (African design) and shoddy workmanship, you would think this hotel was about 10 years old. Poor plumbing standards in building seem to be the key as damp patches and flaking paint in many areas. Room OK thankfully. Hotel could be cleaner. Open -plan design of hotel not condusive to often chilly Canarian evenings. Theatre and disco partly open-air and therefore uncomfortably cool. Disco can be heard all over hotel. Acts at theatre mostly acrobats, only the Platters were worth seeing. Animation team usual childish antics. Hotel most uncomfortable ever stayed in, hard wood chairs and wicker settees with extra-thin cushions everywhere, perhaps on purpose as this discourages guests from sitting too long for all-inclusive drinks. Cerveceria bar draughty and uncomfortable. Green bar slightly more comfortable (adults only) but still draughty and poor atmosphere (also a lousy Saxophone player). Bed very hard, not much sleep, backache resulting. Need a car as hotel very remote from Playa Blanca and coastal walk nice but takes an hour (not possible after dark). Also need car to get to more distant Papagayo beaches. Ugly beach no-one uses in front of hotel. Food generally good in main restaurant but not in Italian (just an annexe of main restaurant), Thai not good, French not worth paying for. Service generally good, one or two sour faces (watch out for tall chef in main restaurant). Reception staff need better English. Nice pools, plenty of sunbeds but not enough shades (music too loud). Mainly English and German guests but also many Spanish (suspect they are getting good prices). We got good price from Eclipse but the cons outweigh the pros so we will not be returning. This is really only a three star hotel in our opinion but if you want something a bit better these days, it seems you need to pay for a five star. Just because a hotel has a jacuzzi and steam room and more than one restaurant and pool shouldn't automatically make it a four star.
