The staff spoke English on reception and on the whole they were happy to assist with any queries. The hotel is a very large complex of buildings. When we eventually found our room - we were delighted! The room was huge, which suited our needs of a family of four with 2 children, 12 & 9yrs. Bathroom facilities were excellent. 2 sinks, bath, shower over bath, bidet and a toilet, which were both screened by a tiled wall - which meant more than one person could use the bathroom at a time. We had an enormous balcony - with wooden furniture - overlooking the sea and Fuerteventura beyond - the sunsets were stunning. A free mini bar in the room was most welcome (albeit only soft drinks available). We went during the school holidays in October and the weather was extremely hot.
Pool areas (as with all other areas), were very clean. Pool towels provided. Sun beds were arranged for guests every morning and a wonderful poolside cafe serving a large variety of hot and cold food all day - do not miss the crepes which the chef cooks at 16.00hrs daily! Restaurants were modern, clean and well serviced by the staff. Show cooking each day, with a host of different dishes served each mealtime. Could not fault the restaurants at all! Do try the Thai and Italian restaurants as a change of scenery - delicious. However, if like us, you have a choosy child who only likes pasta - we were delighted to find that she could bring her meal from the adjacent Italian restaurant and join the family to eat in the main restaurant - Well done Papagayo!
A number of bars available throughout the hotel - one serving a variety of well known cocktails at no extra charge. Evening entertainment was taken outside at the covered theatre bar - definitely a theatre feel as 'cinema seating' and no tables to put drinks on. However there was a bar at the back you can stand and watch the show and have a drink. Shows were entertaining and professional. A great Bee Gees tribute band from Bulgaria!.
Only drawback to this hotel is the lack of facilities in the surrounding area - no shops or bars to take a stroll to in the evening. A short taxi ride (5Euros) takes you to Playa Blanca - a lovely seaside resort with golden sand. The beach at the hotel leaves a lot to be desired. However, if you are prepared to take the 10min walk over the volcanic ash outside the hotel, you will be in for a treat! A huge expanse of golden sand awaits - picnics available from the hotel if you want to make a day of It.
All in all we enjoyed a luxurious and relaxing holiday and as an all-inclusive package, once at the hotel you really do not need to spend at all! Give this one a try and I hope you will be as impressed as we were - certainly one to return to.
