Hugely disapointed - have been to Jamaica more than once and this is the worst resort we have stayed in. Chaos at check-in - the time it actually took to perfrom this simple act was far too long, even given the prevailing and expected laid back attitude. The room was awfull... more

Never again.
I would not recommend this resort for singles because there is zero night life. The lobby bar was the "happening" spot. It appeared to be ideal for families; however if you have teenage girls... keep a close eye on them. The Jamaican men (including staff) were constantly sexually harassing our small group of woman and other young girls. The staff was also obviously serving alcohol to under-age teens. We had problems getting checked into our room and finally had to request the manager to help us. The lobby desk personnel were never pleasant. I heard numerous complaints from other people about no coffee makers in their rooms, no hairdryers, no alarm clocks, no buttons on their phones to dial out and no chairs on their balconys. All of their complaints went unanswered. This resort is "just okay" for a family vacation. It is a 45 minute drive from anything, so keep that in mind. It's not all inclusive, so be prepared to pay for anything fun you might want to do. Good luck. I won't be back.
Absolutely Fantastic!
Our family of seven just returned from Starfish Trelawny on March 24th after a seven day vacation. Our experience with this resort was absolutely fantastic and we would recommend to anyone who wishes to spend time in paradise, surrounded by a polite and competent resort staff, at an absolutely top-knotch resort. No matter what your desire, you'll find it at Starfish. Whether walking on beautiful white beaches that are kept in pristine condition, swimming in one of the many wonderful pools or the crystal clear waters of the carribean, eating a variety of wonderful food either in buffet or formal dining settings ---- you name it, Starfish will meet your every desire and expectation. To be honest, based on the low cost of the resort, we expected so much less than what we got. Our family consists of the full range of ages. Each had a wonderful time and it felt that the resort had specifically catered to each age group. There was always activities taking place, unlimited drinks for those of appopriate age, para sailing, wind surfing, sailing, jet skis, a number of tours to Jamaican sites, etc. The rooms (we were in two cottages) were clean, modern and very well maintained. And last, but certainly not least, the water sports staff were fantastic. Six of us certified in scuba diving while there completing our required four open water dives (we had done phase 1 of our training in the States). Magnum Taylor, Slim Fast and the rest of the scuba staff were just fantastic and they made our trip to beautiful Jamaica just that much better. We've been on a number of vacations around the world, this one goes into the record book. Thanks Starfish, you made our dreams come true and we can't wait to come back.
Starfish good for kids
I just returned from a 5 day stay at the Starfish Trelawny Resort. It was my third trip to an all-inclusive and second to Jamaica. Overall I thought the resort was nice. I took my 3 year old son and he loved it. It's a great resort for kids and the Kid's Club was excellent. The food was usually pretty good (very good in the restaurants with a surcharge). The pools were nice (again, great for kids) and the beach was beautiful. It was difficult to find a shady spot on the beach, seems most people got up at the crack of dawn to put their towels on chairs under the shade (I got up one morning at 7:30am and all the spots were already taken). Lines at the bars were long at times and the soft drinks in the self-serve machines were empty quite often. Overall, this resort is nice if you don't want to spend a fortune and you don't mind lots of kids running around. If you expect the service of the Ritz-Carlton then you will probably be disappointed, but if you're looking for a beautiful beach and a nice resort then you'll be pleased.
Great Time at the Starfish!
Just got back yesterday from Starfish Trelawny and we had a wonderful time, even with the fire! The front desk staff were a little hard to deal with but I think they did the best they could. They had to relocate alot of people without notice. You just have to keep after them. And remember that you are in Jamaica, No Problem, Mon! We are 40+ and we had four 18 & 19 year olds with us. We all partied when we wanted to and relaxed when we needed to. There was always something to do. Don't go home without Para Sailing! The water sports guys were great! The beach bartenders and cooks were wonderful! The SPA girls did a fantastic job braiding hair! And I can't say enough about the wonderful Activities Staff. Thanks to Huie, Xavier, Kristy and Michelle, your the best! We all had a wonderful time and hopefully be able to go back to the Starfish someday.
If you want to party-don't go here
My sister and I just got back on the 8th of March 03 from the Starfish. We are 24 and 26. If you are single, or just looking to have a good time - do not go here. The night entertainment was horrible. The "disco" only had 3 people in it each night and those were the people who worked there. The live band played all American music. I came to Jamaica to listen to Reggae, not some singer sing out a crappy version of Everything I Do. The "country club" across the street was better than this place. Yes they do have seven bars, but what they fail to tell you is that they all close down at 1 hour intervals. The one at the beach closes around 10, the one downstairs closes at 11, and the one in the lobby closes around 12 or 1. If you want to keep drinking you have to go into the crappy bar with it's Techno junk playing. There is also the piano bar. I don't know why it is called that considering there is no bar there. All it was was a bunch of older folks singing and holding hands. I guess if you are into that kind of thing it's great but it's not what we had in mind. The rooms were all right, except that we asked for two beds, and got a king size with a tiny little bed in the corner. My sister and I slept together the first night, and I guess when they saw that, while we were at our orientation the next day, they came in and took the little bed! Some of our friends' coffee maker didn't work they told them at the front desk about 3 times and they didn't get any coffee for the entire week, so the rooms aren't the greatest (you don't spend much time in them so we didn;t care) I've been to Jamaica before and usually the people are very nice - not the reception desk here. Very rude and snotty. On a good note, the food was great, and the beach was wonderful. We met some wonderful friends all from Wisconsin (hey guys!). If I had kids I'd go here, but not as a young person looking to take advantage of the all inclusive. Also if you want to get married here - don't. The plac do it during the day. We saw 3 weddings, only one of them got the wedding march. The other two heard BINGO in the background - go somewhere nicer!
Super value
My fiance and During March of 2001, but I just found this wonderful website. Here's the breakdown: Food: Good, with rare exception. Lots of nice traditional Jamaican stuff, and the Munihana was surprisingly good.Booze: If you try hard enough, you can catch a buzz. The local booze is weak and not very good. I am an admitted booze snob, however. Bannana Daiquiri's were beyond excellent because of the fruit.Service: Service with a grunt or smile, they had both. Throwing some tips around your first couple of days will help this a LOT. Didn't figure out that "no tipping" was only for a-holes until mid way thru the trip.Beach: I loved it. It was nearly empty. Sat under a hut for a week watching beautiful ocean and drinking (too much).Rooms: Adequate and clean. Only slept and washed in them, though.Overall: What a deal. This was our first all-inclusive, and it was worth every penny. You want more, you have to pay more. You want a good value, go to the Starfish.
Great deal-great time!
I just got back last week, Feb 12th, 2003. It was great! My wife & I went with our 14 & 15 year olds & our 18 month old. There was something for everyone to do-everyday. The food was great, plenty of it. They start bringing out some of the breakfast foods by 6 am & there is also a midnight buffet if you'd like. The only beer they serve is Red Stripe- a local beer. I've had worse-and better, but it is ok. Lots of tropical drinks served. They have an island that you can walk out to which is about 50 meters off shore. This was clothing optional from the waist up when we were there. They have built a sand bar out to it so the water only goes up to your shins. The bathrooms have been re-done so no complaints there. Great time- great price-can't beat it!
Great vacation
First time to Jamaica. Great trip! The resort is nice. Some staff friendly, some not too friendly. The buffet in general sucked except for the breads and desserts, they were fabulous. Also be sure to eat at the Casablanca on site. EXCELLENT FOOD! It is more than worth your money staying in a cottage. It was so accessible to everything. Also so much for the "nude" beach. Everyone likes to lay out on the small island across from the beach (Which is NOT designated for nude sunbathing) topless. I would prefer to stay at an adults only resort, but if you have kids, they will have a blast. Theres alot to do for everyone.
Our new friends
My darling wife and I spent two wonderful weeks at the Starfish Trelawny during January '03. To put it simply, it was the best holiday of our lives. What made it better than Australia or Europe etc? Well, in a word it was the people. Both the staff and the guests were a treat to be around. Entertainment, food and facilities etc were for us beyond expectations. Good Luck to you all at Starfish Trelawny, we hope to stay with you again next year!
irie to the starfish
myself and my two children stayed at the starfish for the week commencing jan 24 2003 for one week. i wanted to show my chidren some good points of jamaica, as in the uk it is getting some bad press. what can i say about the starfish... but IRIE. or should i say fantastic. ok basic accommodation bring some ear plugs, and forget the diet. food fantastic and the kids couldnt get enough. as for the entertainment, get involved it is one of the highlights of the resort. irie to the kids club it was worth every penny. theo and ten say hello to yvonne, donna, marsha and all the rest, you made my son feel like a prince and to all the the staff thank you for the wonderful memories that we will keep for the rest of our lives starfish IRIExxxxx
