I must say this is the best holiday i have ever been on.
I would recommend anyone to visit here!
If you want to come to paradise with a basic room and great food and amazing people this is for you. Id say this is the best location in Jamaica to visit for a great beach experience.
The hotel comes with a private luxurious beach with a wide range of water sports. The sea is crystal clear and as warm as a bath (i was there in October). The most beautiful scenery ive ever seen. There is a small sand island that you can walk to out into the sea (the water is shallow), you can sunbathe here and relax in hammocks. The sand is very fine and white with a great contrast to the turquoise sea.
The hotel is surrounded by dense greenery. The hotel looks abit dated and the rooms are basic but you dont spend much time in there only to sleep. The rooms are spacious and have great aircon and powerful showers and big comfy beds.
There is plenty of entertainment, miniture golf, pool tabels in the actual pools themselves, night entertainment, watersports, bars, internet, hot tubs and food and drink 24/7. Extra resturants that you can book into for variety.
The food is excellent, there is everything for everyone.

Hugely disapointed - have been to Jamaica more than once and this is the worst resort we have stayed in. Chaos at check-in - the time it actually took to perfrom this simple act was far too long, even given the prevailing and expected laid back attitude. The room was awfull - very small, peeling paint, ants everywhere, no 3rd bed for our child, bathroom ceiling tiles falling out, too few towels etc etc. We had paid for an upgrade, and when complained (on arrival at the room) was informed this WAS the upgrade!!!!
The noise level was far too loud and almost continuous - the layout of the resort meant that as soon as the evening entertainment started it was louder in the room than by the stage - and this was every night until 10.30 - not good with children or even if you want a quite time. Also as soon as the staff were at the pool (usually about 8.30 am), they instantly turned on loud music there also, which wasn't switched off until 6pm- Not relaxing, or nice, just a bombarment of noise all day and night.
Both myself and partner had food poisening during our stay - says it all about the food and overall hygiene I think!!!!
Beach is beautiful tho, with plenty of watersports - shame the Jamaica's think a 2 inch wave is choppy and stop all watersports for the day. Can get mithered by the sellers from the nearby market, but a polite no is usually all it takes.
No shuttle bus to either Mo Bay or Ochio Rios - really could do with this option to get out of the hotel. Gift shop very small and overpriced.

march,2008, just returned from starfish trelawny. my daughter was married march 11 th and i can,t say enought about this resort. the food was so good we all put weight on, the staff was excellent and the beach was a piece of heaven. the wedding was everything you would wish for, with a wedding planner that did everything for us including the worrying. I,m what you could call a world traveller and have stayed at mostly 5 star hotels and not one of them served the great food we had at starfish. now the rooms are not fancy, but they are clean and if you are anything like me ,you spend all your time on the beach.ah, if you want a fancy hotel don,t stay at starfish, but i bet you wouldn,t get any better food, staff or entertaintment any where else. the only problem we ran into was when we arrived there was only one person on duty to check us in. now, I don,t know if that was a problem with the hotel or the airlines. our flight was with air transit and of course we were almost 5 hours late getting there and we had a 6 hour delay going home. what can I say it,s air transit. will be returing to starfish with bells on next year. thanks starfish for a great vacation.

we have traveled to a few places and done a couple of cruises and been to other third world countries but this one took the cake! we went as a group of 7 couples
1. Musty smelling room, had to have all furniture cushions removed to help reduce mold or musty smell
2. all the doors were "jimmied" looked like they had been broken into many times
3. toilest dont flush... none of the 7 rooms worked even close to proper. one toilet over flowed and soaked one couples luggage
4. Shower takes forever to get hot.. I mean like 10 minutes and then it does not regulate the temp like USA mandated showers so when the neigbor or your wife flushes you get boiled alive
5. took 3 days to get a key/lock for the security box in our room no place to lock up your passport when your swimming
6. on our first night the guy cutting up the jerk chicken wanted a tip and was crappy about not getting one.
7. the bar is good, but even though you could take the three bottles of liquor home with you, they were not worth the trouble. and this is the same liquor they use at the bar.
8. if you do want to go to sleep before 11:30 at night be ready to be kept awake from some bone head playing Elton John covers over and over on the piano with three or four morons from Irleand or europe singing "West Virginia mountain momma..."
9. The electric is flat out dangerous if you go check out how your alarm clock is hard wired into the oulet thru the back side of the outlet cover. if its that bad where you can see it you know its in total shambles behind the walls. place needs to be DOZED down
10. we are all about 33-36 year old love to drink and have a good time but none of smoke pot, be very forewarned that on the starfish beach you WILL have pushers hitting you up non stop 3-5 times an hour to buy there illegal goods. if you want to walk down the beach you must sign out with starfishes security, because its so dangerous
11. food was just OK nothing really special! Warning if you go there bring your own salt shaker becuase not one of theirs work and bring your own Heinz 57 ketchup because what they have taste likes tomatoe jelly..... seriously!! it isnt right
12. paid cash ($7.50) for 15 minutes of internet usage on there computer. i went to check out they still billed me for it and made me pay again. someone got a good tip. I feel they were dishonest with me
13. pool area was fine, the slide was fun
14 the hot tub was just plain scary.. looked like egg whites where floating in it.
15 took 3 days to get a beach towel. it did not matter if i went out at 7:00 Am it would be "no man come back in a hour man" and on and on with reasons why they were slakers
16 place was built in 1972 remodeled in 2000 and should be dozed in 2008 but when you see how the locales live you can see why this is still standing and they think its great.
17. Great Blue Mtn Coffee in your room this stuff is very good!!
18. The beach is very nice. except for issue in #10
19. They can mix a good drink with what they have
20. Bar tenders do not ask for tips
21. Elevator never broke down.but neither did the stairs...
22. plenty of odd male eourpeans wearing speedos for our daily comedy relief.
23. plenty of my fellow americans that seem to have refianced their trailer home to pay for this trip, and truly think this is world class entertainment. and rate it as a 4 star hotel.
24. Overall, if i would have known i would have paid an extra 4 or 5 hundred as a couple and had a better newer resort. the natural beauty of the Ocean, beach, booze, wifes company and palm trees made it bearable

Rooms smelly and mouldy. Mostly friendly staff. We had mountain view room and had a very noisy air conditioning unit outside our balcony and complained and were moved to a sea view room.
Wouldn't use the hot tubs although they were cleaned regularly. It wasn’t unusual to find condoms floating in them they are very secluded and are used a lot at night time by the guests, must be because the evening entertainment put on in the hotel is rubbish and repetitive.
AI does not include premium brands. Food is OK in the buffet style restaurant but gets repetitive if you are staying for two weeks.

OMG!
The circus staff and kid coordinators were top in their game. They were amazing.
Last Visit: September 2007Great for: Families
No were on the website does it state - we have hot water. The sliding glass door was off the track- 2 days it didn't shut and for the rest of the trip if was about an inch from shutting.
The smoke out bug machines were activated 2 times a day with no warning, so the kids had to breathe the smoke with no warning to get the kids inside.
My 5 year old daughter wanted to get her hair braided, so the lifeguard told me that she was going to see "Jean" he didn't say - hey I am going to take you daughter in a bikini without shoes out off the resort to the bamboo shack village 1/2 mile away for 3 hours.
When I was scared and upset the answer given was- she is smart - don't worry. Guest relations looked at me blindly. The security guards let her off the property without parent consent. You have to sign a waiver to take out their jet ski but they can take your kid without authorization. hmm a little backwards.
Let me see - The unlimited beer- had mould in the cups from the dirty tap.
The music was thumping until 2:30am where the TV in your room would not cover up the noise.
The rooms stunk; I brought 2 air fresheners because I read the reviews of past travellers.
That didn't do it. Plus the mould on the ceilings and in the vents were dripping. While we were out one night - they repainted over the mould which made it hard for the kids to sleep. The smell was unpleasant.
The staff was excellent! Especially for the kids.
The guest relations and reception would have been more helpful by just being a voice recorder. No one would give me the managers name even when they over charged me and I wanted to just pay double and leave.
The taxi driver wanted to charge me extra for him having to wait since the front desk didn't have their stuff together. He was yelling at me - that he did no such thing, my daughter was scared and crying, and at that point we just wanted to go back to the airport and not end up in pieces in the jungle for annoying the taxi driver.
Would not do it again. But won't forget it.
My daughter had a blast and we got to spend quality time together.
The skating ring, rock climbing, jogging in the morning, exercises were none existent or completely closed. The weekend Jamaicans on the day pass were obnoxious and smelled the facilities up.
This is no place to go without children- but watch out or they will be taken.

We went to Starfish Trelawny on July 31st for 2 weeks and all I can say is that it was our best holiday ever for anybody of any age.
The rooms are basic, but you are not using them much so it doesn't matter. The entertainment crew are amazing and very friendly especially Huie, Chad & Kevan. The bar staff were also amazing, they were always rushing around to help you. They are all very friendly, every one comes up to you and says respect.
There are so many different activities to join in with like rock climbing, trapeze, trampoline (never open while we were there), mini golf, tennis, table tennis, basketball, hockey & many more.
The food was great, but every time you went into the buffet the waiters came along and started pouring water into your glasses, they didn't ask and even if you said no thanks they didn't care.
The beach was great, but people sometimes come along to try and sell you drugs or other items. There is a gift shop in the hotel, but during the day you can go to the Stools and get things cheaper. If they say 10 say I only have 5 and they will give it to you.
It only rained twice while we were there and I would advise you to wear lots of sun cream. I went on 3 trips, all were very good. First we went on the Glistening Waters tour which is a boat trip. They take you to a place were if you go into the water it glows up around you, it was fantastic and was a strange feeling, it is the best place for that in the world.
The Dunnes River Falls were amazing, some parts are really hard to climb, but it was great. We also went Tubing which was good, but because it was in a rainforest it rained most of the time and we were frozen. Also go to the beach and ask for Captain Bruce who will take you out on a catermaran, it is wonderful and gets you soaked!!
Be warned everyone asks for tips! We wish we could go back again if we just had the money.

Fantastic. It was absolutely fantastic. I cried all the way from the hotel back to the airport. None of my family wanted to go home.
Check-in with the hotel was a bit slow but that was the worse part of the holiday.
Rooms were adequate and clean - cleaned daily. Although we had to get use to the air conditioning.
Facilities at the resort were well labelled and plentiful. We did not even give a thought to coming off site and had to tear ourselves away to go to Ocho Rios.
The staff were so pleasant and happy and could not do enough for you. The entertainment crew and the circus crew were fantastic. You have to go on the trapeze and join in the quizzes, you'll have such a laugh.
There were just so many games and activities to get involved in and my younger son loved kids club too.
Guess where we going on holiday next year. See you soon Kevan, Chad, Hurtland, Philip, Damien and the rest of the crew - be ready for us!

Well, Star Fish is a great hotel, its beautiful beach, lovely pools, and location is perfect.
On arriving from the airport though we found our room was not ready, we had to wait an hour before we got it, which isn’t great when you hot and tired!
We didn’t have enough towels and called 3 times before we got any and that was only when we asked to speak to the manager!
The staff are great they are the most polite and helpful people I have ever met!! Peter, Damien, Craig, and Ricardo the photographer were the best they made the stay so much fun!
Do the Dunns river cruise its out of this world!! One of my best days there! We mixed a lot with the staff and most of them became our friends they teach you a lot about Jamaica and the best places to go partying!
Marguateries is great on a Thursday - ladies night and Friday its open air club with the dj Dj booth is inside a shark’s mouth, that’s crashed through the side of the wall! Clubs very hot so dress light and you will find the bathrooms cooler than the open air clubs coz they got aircon!
The food was great a lot of variety and the staff are happy to serve you if you like, if not it’s all buffet style anyway. There are also great restaurants for the posher nights; Damien is great in the restaurant near reception!
We had my cousin’s birthday party there and he helped me arrange it at short notice a true star!!
It’s a great hotel, facilities and staff are 5 stars even though it’s a 3 star place!! I would definitely go back!
P.S those of you that are not brave enough to venture out to the local clubs which are the best!! There is Bubbles Club at the resort it had a good reggae night but all other nights are a bore!! Mixing with locals guarantees a great holiday! Just make sure it’s the nice locals!

Our first time to the Caribbean, a wonderful holiday and we did not want to come home.
The rooms were very clean and a maid cleaned them every day, also put towels on the bed in a pattern of a heart or swan. The staff were wonderful and friendly.
2 swimming pools, Jacuzzis (not that you want to go in these when it's 90 degrees), the beach is kept clean and there are plenty of sun beds.
The food was wonderful and we were spoilt for choice!! There are surcharges on the other 5 restaurants but we found the all inclusive restaurant always had enough to choose from.
Dolphin experience is wonderful, a must for everyone. Also the Irie Adventure which is a 3 in 1 trip. The rep Pauline for Thomson was really helpful and friendly, yeh mon!!!!
Wonderful place, would go again if we had the opportunity. Plenty more of the world to see though.

Excellent value hotel. Rooms are a bit small but everything else was fine.
The beach, food, drinks and entertainment was excellent. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Rooms were just below par, sliding doors stick, and balcony had no lighting room a bit small and decoration could be improved.
Service was excellent, all staff very friendly and helpful cannot praise your service from ALL staff enough.
Food was also varied and well presented, both hot and cold service. Did not have one meal that was not enjoyable.
Facilities on site were also excellent. Wide and varied activities for all ages and very efficient security arrangements. Overall an excellent hotel for all the family.
Tours were also very well arranged with a wide choice of off site activities although some might be expensive they were all value for money.
Hotel location was ideal for visiting both Montego Bay and Ochia Rios, being sited equidistance from each location.
We did go independently to several places in the area and found the local people very friendly and not at all threatening, ad the taxi service from the hotel was impressive.

On landing in Jamaica the heat was a welcome alternative to the rain of the UK. A shuttle bus met us to take us to the resort; the hour long journey to the resort was a total eye opener, driving through dirt roads edged with shed like buildings, that were people’s homes made me feel uncomfortable.
On approaching the resort from the roadside it looked like we had entered the gates of Butlins at Skegness, the decor was dated and I feared the worst. To my surprise once inside the resort I felt elated, the reception area was lovely and the initial pool area inviting.
Once we had gotten refreshed we made our way towards the beach, now this was breathtaking.
The hotel has its own private island for bathing on, which we took advantage of during our stay.
Overall the food was above average and the resort and its staff a pleasure to be around. You can tend to feel a little restricted though as straying from the confines of the resort is not advised.

My extended family and I stayed at Starfish whilst traveling around Jamaica and believe me, we wished we had stayed there the whole fortnight, all of us! And that includes my fussy (God bless her) mother and my difficult to please nephew.
My son who is two absolutely loved the idyllic beach with its little island across from the main beach. At 6am on our first morning he grabbed his life jacket and told us he wanted to swim and go digging (we had played on the beach the afternoon before.) Quality was not in any way compromised at the all inclusive buffet, it was excellent and every single member of staff at the resort from the waitresses to the men who helped with our luggage were a pleasure to know - God Bless all of you too, you were quite simply excellent!
I have traveled to Jamaica many times but some of my fondest memories will be of our brief stay at Starfish. My husband and I first saw the resort on a visit in 2004. We booked a vacation through Thomson and glimpsed the resort as other guests disembarked from the tour coach for their stay there. It looked divine and a stay there has simply confirmed that it is.
They have an English socket in the rooms (top marks) a free mini bar (top marks) you only pay for it to be refilled and it includes four optics, white rum, vodka, brandy and Appleton rum as well as soft drinks in the fridge and lovely, coordinated decor and furnishings. There is a hairdryer in the bathroom and shower gel and shampoo on tap. Towels are provided for the pool and beach and they can be exchanged for fresh ones throughout the day (top marks for all again). Why is this place only rated a three star? I have stayed at another Thomson resort in Ocho Rios (also rated three star by Thomson and Starfish FAR exceeds the other!
I have just one or two gripes that Starfish management could quite easily fix, we like to eat at restaurants with our two year old son, the Casablanca (the only restaurant without a surcharge) does not allow youngsters to dine who are under the age of ten, that kind of discriminates against families who may wish to take advantage of a restaurant style setting without the extra costs. Two, the daycare facility should be free and the fee should apply only to after hours babysitting. Just a quick tip to guests who may stay there, the Casablanca charges for some of its dishes but not all. We ate the free dishes and they were scrumptious, beautifully prepared and presented. The other restaurants i.e. Japanese, Jamaican and Italian charge a surcharge from $5 to $15 (approx) to dine there.
None of these things would put me off going back to Starfish and I want to end on a good note so let me finish by saying if you book a holiday to Jamaica from the UK book through Thomson (because they too provided an excellent service) and book Starfish Trelawney. I will definitely be heading back there and more than likely with my extended family in tow. Thank you Starfish resort and Winston the manager, from Abigail Reid.
Ps. My husband Evens and my nephew Hakim want to say hello to all the fisherman they met at Starfish. They had some good times collecting their fish for them!

My husband and I visited the Starfish for the 2nd time September 1 – 8, 2006. We had the best vacation ever! The staff is wonderful! They made our vacation special. I hope I’m spelling their names correctly when I write about them.
The great service began at the curb at the Starfish. Winchester took our bags from the cab, offered us a cool towel for our heads and showed us to the bar. He assured us that he would watch our bags for us. He did. Check in went quickly, but our rooms weren’t ready when we arrived. (Check in is at 3. We knew this ahead of time, so our swim suits were in our carry on.). We headed for the pool where in an hour or so, Winchester appeared and informed us our room was ready and took us directly to our room. Great service!
The girls that worked the front desk were excellent also. We had to get change several times and they never complained and always smiled.
We were in room #609. I loved the room. I loved the view. Fiona kept our room clean daily and made us things out of towels on our bed (swan, palm tree & bunny to name a few). Our room was well stocked, as was the bar. We had plenty of clean towels. We did not use the phone, we were on vacation.
The second day we were there, we each had a massage. It was as if they massaged everything out of us (the kids, the job, any problems in the USA, etc). After the massage, we were truly on vacation. We filled out a comment card that day at the spa and put the names of the two girls who massaged us on there, but unfortunately, I cannot recall their names. They both did an excellent job.
The food was better this time than last. It wasn’t terrible before, it was just better this time. Sometimes when I read reviews, it bothers me that folks complain about the food at the resort. The resort is cooking food for hundreds of people and trying to keep the food the correct temperature. Pleasing everyone all the time is impossible, but there is something for everyone at every meal. (And you’re in Jamaica – how can you complain?) By the way, the corned beef was excellent!
We were walking down the sidewalk one day and ran into Basil & Wayne. Basil inquired if we were having a good time. We were. He asked about the food. I told him it was better this time than last. Then he introduced us to Wayne, the new chef. We continued to be impressed that every time we saw either of these men, they spoke to us and made us feel special. Wayne even came up to the lobby to say good bye to us when we left!
Patricia took care of us every morning at breakfast. She was quick with a smile and coffee.
Jason took care of us at dinner. We enjoyed him so much last time we were there; we looked for him this time. He found us. He is a lot of fun.
Jolene served us when we were there two years ago, when she worked with Garfield at the Munasan. We looked for her when we arrived at the Starfish. She found us. She is also quick with a smile and a hug. We love Jolene!
We ate at the Munasan again this trip. It was absolutely wonderful and well worth the additional $15 each! Not just the food, but the “show” also. Garfield would start a song and the others would join in. What fun! Garfield cooked for us two years ago and again this time. The shrimp, steak and fish were wonderful! We love Garfield!
The bartenders were great! Yvonne, Jennifer, Kim & Patricia took especially good care of us on a daily basis! They remembered us from 2 years ago also!
The Seashell Pool Grill had excellent food. The pizza is different, but delicious. The Jerk Chicken was wonderful! Devonn remembered us and took good care of us!
Unfortunately, we did not stay up for any of the shows, except for the dancers. They did an excellent show! The fire eater was scary, but the show was great!
The swimming pools were clean and cool, however, we spent about 20 minutes total in the pool. We did not use the Jacuzzis. We were there for the island and the beach! The grounds were kept unbelievable clean and neat. Your staff is the hardest working staff we have ever seen, all of them are to be commended!
We went out on the Hobbie Cat with Jermaine. What a fun ride and everything is so pretty out in the water. He showed us around and talked to us a while. He was a lot of fun! We went two days in a row. I wish we had gone every day. When we return we will go every day!
We love the little island! We spent most of our time on the island. We met several very nice people there including several of the “locals”. Our favorite local is Moses. We met him two years ago also. He cooked lobster for us on the beach this time and last. It was delicious!
My husband won $20 in the slot machine, so he thought they were ok.
The gift shop had pretty much anything you might have forgotten. They have a large selection and the prices weren’t too bad for a gift shop.
We stayed at the Starfish two years ago. Since we were the visitors, we thought we would remember the staff, but after thousands of tourists going through the resort, the staff would not remember us. We could not have been more mistaken. We heard the phrase “you here before” more times than I can tell you. We heard it from the bar tenders, servers, Garfield, Devonn, the Waters Sports Instructors and Security. It made us feel like we were “celebrities” on this resort. That is a wonderful staff!
We can’t wait to go back!
