Visit Toronto in Feb 2007 for 6 nights. Excellent package put together by Slattery Travel.
Flight via Heathrow to Toronto was excellent. Only issue was that time frame for connecting flight from Heathrow was very short .
On arrival in Toronto dropped of at the hotel by coach which gave us a good view of the city on way in. All trips had been arranged by Slatterys and were excellent. The room was on the 20th floor and overlooked the lake. From the other side of the hotel there was excellent views of the city and the CN tower.
Day one took us on a tour of the city which I must say was excellent .It took about 3 hrs and also allowed you to hop on and off at various points. It also allowed you have a tour of the city by early evening. Day 2 allowed us to savour the hotel leisure center and relax. Breakfast can be taken in the hotel and served or as a buffet style. The buffet style is at a set price and we found it suited our taste. Food in the hotel restaurant was excellent with something to suit all taste.
The bar in the evening is relaxing to the sound of piano music. The following day took us to Niagara Falls. Pick up was at the hotel and by 10 am we were on the journey to Niagara .The journey took about 2 hours and the courier did not over power us with to much history. He was a very good historian but not overpowering.
On arrival at Niagera the scenery in February is over powering. The base of the falls were frozen over. However the mist and roar of the falls was something we never experienced before. The sun was so strong from the glare of the frozen ice that everyone had to wear sunglasses. A rainbow spans the falls all day long. Because it was so frozen activities were limited at this time of the year. Lunch was provided in the observation restaurant in the Sheridan hotel.
After lunch we were taken further down the falls to the whirlpool observation deck and the heliport. A ten minute spin will take you back up the falls and over the whole lake. Our courier then took us further down the river and showed us the method in which water is taken from the upper lakes to run power stations located on the Canadian side and the American side. It was then on to the little quaint town of Niagera on the lakes and a local winery to sample some ice wine. Our journey home had us back in to Toronto by 8 pm that evening.
Our next 2 days allowed us to savour the delights of Toronto. A spin out to the islands is a must even when the temperatures are minus 22.This gives you an excellent view of the city and surrounds. As the city is a business place we discovered that most of the stores had very good sales on mid week. The Eton center is the biggest in Toronto with all leading outlets there.
Eating out in Toronto caters for all taste. Good steak houses, pizza palours and various forms of restaurants are dotted all over the city. A 3 course meal for 2 will only cost you approx 50 Canadian dollars or approx 30 euros. This does not include wine. Wine tends to be expensive everywhere.
Planning to return to Toronto in September and will stay at the Westin Harbour again.
